And this is what some people who live in Nigeria call enjoyment: you have a bunch of maids and helps who you treat worse than slaves . . some of these may even be family members!

And then you blame the white man for buying slaves.

We need to cleanse ourselves first instead of blaming the other person. Remove the log from your eyes.

I wonder why you cannot try to take care of your own. If you treat your helps these way, imagine what they would do to your kids when you are not around.

While i do not agree with what confetti posted, i've referred to it because it 'answers' kokoy's question/OP. But as it is clear, he is yet to read the post. He's still sin.searly looking for anybody to address his questions. These bunch are just Never learning.
That was funny.  cheesy

Confetti,  I am sorry I skipped your post earlier because of the lenght of it. I just had time to go over it now.  May the Lord reward you in ways that you desire. Amen.

Bro don’t u see that's where u missed it.U saw something in the bible and u come on NL to get clarification. Jesus said the Holy Spirit will guide us in all things. No pastor,no prophet is supposed to be the final guide for the new testament believer and definitely not a social networking forum like this. If u need clarification from the scriptures pray to the Holy Spirit and so long as u are redeemed and He lives in you He will gladly guide u to the truth. But then the conditional clause to hear from Him is - u have to be a Son of GOD “cos as many as are led by the Spirit of GOD (not NL) they are the Sons of God”. The words in the Bible are spirit and authored by men inspired by the Holy Spirit and it takes the help of the Holy Spirit its author, to properly discern them. So if u are born-again and the Holy Spirit lives in u go ahead and ask Him to reveal whatever u are not clear about. That’s His purpose on the earth, to give u comfort. Else if u are reading the Bible carnally to get points for arguments on NL, then i hope u watch urself before u cross the line.
OK. let us be honest here. I know what I read and I know what it means. I opened the thread solely for the purpose of those who might have not seen it and have a decent conversation about it.

Abi, dont we all go for bible study?? I am not going to claim that I know all (like some people). I am open to corrections and recommendation.

Lastly, I do not come here for arguments, I believe these are matured minds and we should be able to resolve our differences. And I will not apologise for arguments I did not start.

I put this out there because I am sure some people do not know about those verses - I did not know about it until a few weeks ago myself.

God help us all.

^^^

I did not create the thread to flog those who pay or not.

Yes. Tithe is real. But what do you do with it?

I did my research, saw something in the bible that which most pastors do not talk about.

I did not want to go and meet a pastor about it since it is a source of their livelihood and I may get a biased explanation.

I needed some clarification in case I was missing something - so I created this thread.

End of story.
Christianity EtcRe: The Biblical Meaning Of Tithe by kokoye(op): 5:21pm On Aug 23, 2010
To all who are pissed or frustrated because this is on the front page, no vex grin

I created this thread out of all sincerity - I do not frequent the Religion section so I dont know what's been flogged to death or not.

All I know is that I saw something that most pastors do not talk about on the pulpit and I decided to bring it on. . .is there anything wrong with that??

I came here to ask a simple question . . is that not what forums like this are for??

I do not care what makes the front page, but it seems that real estate is worth more than a plot on Victoria Island.

By the way, I still have not had one person answer my question

. .or else I wouldve asked a moderator to close the thread since the templars and the classicals are always at war here.

Do u get all the £40 u are paid in Uk? You are paid £40 and 50% of amount goes back to government as tax.
At least you see what the tax is used for.

Although I know folks are taxed almost to death in the u.k, but please can we stop defining tax like nothing good comes out of it?

salamsm:
Oh well, you can always paint a picture as it suits you. I lived in UK for a considerable amount of years, yes it's all good, the system offers you most that you can ask for, however, it never felt like home to me. You never get accepted by the people even if they don't make it seem obvious.

Since i've been back in Nigeria, I have been able to secure a good paying job and save more money than I used to back in the UK.

Sure there are levels of corruption and a lot of issues that needs to be addressed. Before Nigerians used to be strong willed and determined. These days, they just wanna give up, pack it in and run away.

All these countries abroad started from scratch, Im guessing if their citizens decided to stay away, they would have not got it developed to such levels of today.

The Ghanaians decided to start coming home in order to develop their country, who else was gonna do it for them? Maybe we need to do the same instead of easily giving up and running away.

If your neighbor had a better house; two things you can do, fix up your house or move into his,

I don't thing the problem with Nigeria should be completely blamed on governance, the people are to blame as well. From what i can infer, even the highly educated Nigerians who worked and studied abroad can end up being the most corrupt individuals,

Just some food for thought.
That is your story. Good for you.

Do you want me to tell you stories of others, not so unlucky: poeple who left good jobs in the west to come and try to settle down in Nigeria but returned after years of misery . . or I should refer you to some that are dead?? I am sure you have heard of them but choose to ignore it.

Whatever works for you and floats your boat but dont come here and start bashing others because you were lucky or got the hook up.

And must we always bring Ghana into this? I am getting tired o!!

Like someone rightly said, this thread is for people to share their concerns.

All the good things we see in the West are the products of some people's sweat, tears and blood not just balck slaves but white visionaries.

I heard there was a time when they used to kill witches by jungle justice and they also had their own corruption days.

If they did not make the necessary sacrifices then, we would not be thinking of emigrating today. Nigerians abroad need to come back home, change others' mentality (in different areas) and fight for a better life for the next generation.
The 'white visionaries you talk about were appreciated for it. Not in Nigeria - you will be made a laughing stock.

How many people have lost their lives in Nigeria . . and what has come out of it?

The fact that people are very hungry in the midst of plenty will make them do anything for money. . . talk about kidnapping . . you think it will stop?

Even siblings kidapping each other, people getting themselves kidnapped for peanuts.

If you do not have good money if Nigeria, you will be oppressed. Simple

Except you choose to retire to your village and be a farmer.

This is why there is so much fraud / kidnappings going around.

Let's get real.
TravelRe: Why Is It Difficult To Return Home? by kokoye(m): 2:29pm On Aug 23, 2010
It is hard to have a decent conversation with people who think every Nigerian in the west is doing a menial job.

Some cannot understand that there are millions of Nigerians abroad who are actually very comforable wherever they choose to be.

Say whatever you like, but I have been treated way better here in the states: foreigner or not, they will treat you with respect.

I have been slapped by a policeman in Nigeria because I asked a very simple question: 'why'. I had a green light but he wanted me to stop so a 'white man' (lebanese) could pass.
TravelRe: Why Is It Difficult To Return Home? by kokoye(m): 2:23pm On Aug 23, 2010
The sad thing is why you open a thread about returning to Nigeria, you'd be surprised at home many people will scream at you saying 'you think you want to come and take your fake 'fone' and useless foreign degree to take over our jobs' !!

Can you comprehend that?

But then they are continually bashing people who choose to stay abroad.

what do we really want??

I was so so not happy when I watched that movie. So many things were changed. That's why I'm bothered about them doing a movie on "The Lost Symbols".
That is exactly whay I prefer to watch the movie first. Just could not wait for the movie this time around.

Obviously you did not see that line at the start of the thread . . or you are just full of negativity.

^^^ Not my portion ojare.

My wife was told to contribute money to buy some stuff for the pastor's wife - something she already had in multiples. Meanwhile I'd run into someone earlier who I'd used to play soccer with but never really talked. The guy told me he'd just lost his job and could not pay his rent. Without thinking, I drove the to the ATM and gave him a decent ammount.

So I told my wife not to contribute - we'd just been a good samaritan to a stranger. That's what my Jesus told me.

So things will never be tight for me.

How many of you guys truly love your neighbour as Jesus commanded. You'd be surprised at the number of people that will ignore cries for help because they want to be in their pastor's good books.

God gave all of us common sense. No need to always depend on your pastor to do your thinking.
