whizkidd: Nairalanders can never seem to think beyond level 1 lol. Let's make a little sense of all of this.
I don't understand what all this gloating is about. Nigerians always seem to fight fights that is not there's to fight.
Firstly, there are 5 ministers from the SW (3 Full, 2 M. Of state) and only 4 from the SS, so there is actually an imbalance in favor of the SW.
Secondly, this is politics. You shore up your base and pocket your opponents. The SW have sworn themselves against Jonathan. We (yes I'm yoruba) can't expect him to support a base that is getting ready to oust him.
Thirdly and most importantly, ministerial and other appointments have no direct bearing on daily lives. How many highways have been built? how many MW have been added? How has kidnapping been solved? The only ones who should gloat are those who are going to be the direct beneficiaries of corruption. The rest of you are really just being silly.

Like I always say, I never expected much from Jonathan so I'm not surprised. I still don't think he is a bad guy! Unfortunately, I think he is surrounded by narrow-minded tribalists who are giving him very bad advice. It is obvious that the next elections are going to be rigged massively. The is no way he can alienate the north and SW and expect to win a free and fair election. So the next logical step is to empower you base in the most lucrative ministeries (so they can open the faucet during elections), then empower people like Bode George and Tony Anenih (people who can get the job done).
In the end, Nigerians lose while they come on nairaland to gloat about their region being superior to others.
Are you sure you are in this country?

PoliticsRe: Illegal Structures Demolished In Ladipo Market by kolexy(m): 11:53pm On Mar 05, 2013
Park well jor!!! angry

You think that they throw away condemned engine blocks in Ladipo?! Or that they throw away Radiators?! Those metal parts are sold off to these metal scrap guys.

Infact, the Market Union can better organize it such that on tuesdays and Saturdays, they will come for metal wastes.. take them and sell them off to make money. On Mondays Wednesdays and Sundays, Organic wastes.. On another day, Rubber wastes..

These markets are run by grown up adults. They should oranize themselves jor! If Government isnt coming for their wastes, they should arrange with a rivate company to dispose of their wastes for them. Thats what sane people do.

I have said it that whilst Fashola is scolding the Marketers, he should also scold the various taskforces, agencies and ministries that have been dealing with these markets and collecting monies from them for taxes, levies and all worth not..

But as far as closing the market is concerned, it is a good move. NOW THAT IT IS CLOSED.. Everybody can now see well how bad the situation is.

For a house to be well renovated, it has to first be evacuated.
You are right on point Okija. During my NYSC days, I couldn't use the toilet for 3 days because of the poor sanitary condition.Other Corpers were doing 'shot put', but I couldn't. I selected a toilet, and got my room mates to contribute #20 each. I gave the money to one of the cleaners to buy padlock, Izal and toilet brush. The woman washed the toilet, and we locked the place. That singular act encouraged another roommate to raise another sum (still #20 each) to buy sockets for the room. So, with #40 each, we were able to charge our phones throughout our stay at the orientation, and we also had a good toilet for our room. Other rooms in the block saw what we did, yet they could not just organize themselves. They spend a fortune to charge their phone. What happens most times, is that people are so selfish that they care about the enviroment. If, and only if we can genuiely organize 'ourselves', there would be sanity in this country.

Jarus: Let me burst your bubble: a friend (very close friend that I brought. Lagos) just did Shell medicals, having scaled all the recruitment stages. Guess what? He has no more than 2.1 Bsc Chem Engr from -wait for it - Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He knew nobody. In fact, I brought him to Lagos (never visted Lagos in his life. Knew no more than Kano/Bauchi). But a very brilliant dude currently with Oando, waiting on Shell.

Another friend (also a Nairalander) just moved to Addax from Oando for 15m last year. Has no more than Bsc Accounting from Ife (my set) and ICAN. These are guys that don't know anybody.

These are 2012/2013 events, not 2006!

Guys, merit still dey o. I see all tthese things from time to time and these are what make me reach my consistent conclusion that there is still merit if you know your onions.

And I have never lost a job to nepotism. In 2011, about 42 of us competed for Total E&P Economist position (32 shortlisted from Nigeria, the remaining 10 Nigerian MBA/Msc candidates in USA/UK). I didn't get it(one of the guys from US got it) but I knew it was purely merit-driven. That is the competition. Too many qualified people for very limited spaces. Thousands applied, 42 shortlisted, 1 got it.
Thank you my brother. People should understand that there are very few opportunities in Nigeria, hence they feel cheated if they don't get the job. I remember when I did BATN assessment. I was amongst 35 candidates that gate to the final stage (assessment). We were divided into 5 groups of 7 each. At the end of the day, the took 1 person from each group. 5 candidates out of 6 thousand that wrote the first test. Though, I know someone that knows someone that got the job without writing any test. She even grad with a 3rd class. There is still room for merit, but its never easy!

Philolos: Bros, the bible said, Ecclesiastes 1:9: there is nothing new under the sun. Cyndi Lauper also sang, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". And if I may add my 2 kobo, "both girls and boys just want to have fun." It's called adolescent years, which most humans go through. I don't think there is any need for concern or raising the alarm bells. smiley I'd say to your brother, play safe and don't catch anything from the GFs especially the uncurable one. That's all.
Adolescent corpers?
Phantom news reporting....... Imagine a country like Iran, faced with huge sanction, wanting to promote civil war in a country it is 1000s of miles away from?

Iran is surrounded by so many Sunni neighbours, then suddenly wants to promote civil war in a Black African country because some of their Muslims believe in the Sunni version of Islam?

If you believe this story, you might as well believe my dog has wings and can fly....How would killing IBB spark a civil war? Is it his northern brothers he impoverished because of his greed, the ones that will avenge his death?

Some trouble makers want to kill Sultan and IBB, and they are NIGERIANS, not Iranians..
Are you aware Iran is behind Boko haram? I was shocked when my Lebanese friend confirmed it.
I am disappointed with Fashola, how could he even think of closing the market because it is dirty. A reasonable government should employ some CLEANING COMPANIES that will be cleaning up the area and have those people at the market to pay. This will not only keep the market clean, but will also create employment for people. That is a very daft decision and should not be applauded. Nigerian leaders always looking for easy ways
I'm sure you will be the first to shout, if the goverment request they pay for cleaning the market. Friend, what do you want?
