TravelRe: CCECC Launches Cargo Freight Service On Lagos-Ibadan Railway by Konquest:
Slytiger:
The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has officially launched its cargo freight service on the Lagos-Ibadan Railway, heralding a significant advancement in Nigeria’s logistics and transportation sector.

The announcement was made on Friday through the official X account (formerly Twitter) of John Zhao, CCECC’s representative in Nigeria.

The inaugural journey, leveraging a cross-border rail transport model, commenced at the Ajuba Bonded Terminal, where cargo was transported to Apapa Port in Lagos.

Upon arrival, the goods were unloaded, and import containers were efficiently loaded for the return trip to the Ajuba Terminal, establishing a seamless and fully integrated logistics cycle for both import and export operations.

“CCECC recently launched its self-operated railway freight service in Nigeria with the inaugural run of a cargo train on the Lagos-Ibadan Railway, marking the official commencement of commercial freight operations.

“Utilizing a cross-border rail transport model, the train departed from the Ajuba Bonded Terminal and transported cargo to Apapa Port in Lagos. After unloading, it loaded import containers for the return journey and arrived at the Ajuba Terminal, establishing a seamless full-cycle bidirectional logistics chain for both import and export goods,” Zhao’s post read.

The launch of CCECC’s cargo freight service on the Lagos-Ibadan Railway follows the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s (NRC) recent approval of a 3-year operational license granted to CCECC
.

What you should know
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has granted a three-year license to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to operate freight services on the Lagos-Ibadan standard-gauge railway line. Effective from October 14, 2024, to October 13, 2027, this authorization enables CCECC to provide public goods carriage along the critical rail corridor.

This license represents a major milestone for Nigeria’s rail sector as CCECC becomes the first company to receive authorization for standard-gauge rail freight services in the country.

- Constructed by CCECC and officially launched in June 2021, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway spans 157 kilometers with an additional 7-kilometer branch line. Built to modern railway standards, the line supports speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour, seamlessly connecting Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, to Ibadan, a key industrial city in the southwest.

- By March 5, 2024, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway had operated safely for 1,000 days, transporting over 2 million passengers, according to CCECC’s website. The company has also provided extensive operational support, including technical assistance and workforce training programs.

Additionally, in February 2025, the NRC and APM Terminals Apapa relaunched the Apapa-Ibadan standard-gauge freight rail service. This service operates on a fixed schedule with departures every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, further boosting freight logistics along the rail corridor.

That's a totally NEW cargo service along the 157 kilometers Lagos-Ibadan Railway. Cargo delivery via rail ultimately reduces cost of transportation and production. The rail cargo model is the most effective solution for reducing the cost of food items and commodities coming from the North to the South of Nigeria and vice versa.

The rapid deployment of the cheaper CNG fuel cargo on CNG-fueled trains will be the ultimate game changer which I have always advocated for in the Nigerian business case study (even before the so-called 2023 subsidy removal) but all the governments at state and Federal levels are still busy pussyfooting on this model that would drastically drop the cost of food items in let's say Lagos State, Ogun State and Rivers State (when you plan with the market unions to avoid hoarding and artificial inflation). The state Governors are largely supposed to drive this price control/price reduction strategy instead of the Federal Government. It's totally irresponsible and stupid to relentlessly scapegoat just one man (i.e., President Tinubu) by highly ignorant people who do NOT realize that since the states and state Governors are closer to the people, price control or price regulation of transportation costs and high food costs is largely within the PURVIEW of the state Governors such as Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu or Dapo Abiodun for instance. All the 36 Nigerian Governors (especially those from the South of Nigeria) have to get serious right NOW by deploying CNG food trucks to break the monopoly of the private food trucks and bus owners of the NURTW who I read online have refused to reduce the high cost of transportation despite the significant drops in fuel prices!

Depending solely on Dangote Petrochemical Refinery or any other refinery to drive down the cost of transportation will NOT be effective due to the global FX and exchange rate costing of crude oil which is an international commodity. Since CNG is the cheapest fuel available, at an average of about N250/standard cubic feet of CNG, it would be a BETTER alternative to the more expensive PMS for lowering the cost of transportation and commodities for the masses. Dangote Petrochemical Refinery can still export their finished PMS and other petroleum byproducts to other countries and make huge profits in terms of FX returns.

The painting of the airport road median CLEARLY looks rushed and mediocre right on my screen here. It's important to always get construction professionals who are NOT mediocrities when carrying out major projects such as this one.

It's like an average-looking young lady who rushes to put all kinds of makeups on her face (while trying hard to look more beautiful for her fiance or spouse), BUT ends up doing the makeup application badly.

Foreign AffairsRe: Marat Tibilov Killed In Kursk by Konquest: 11:44pm On Mar 28, 2025
Botragelad:
Putin’s ‘Hero of Russia’ senior officer is KILLED by Ukrainian forces in Kursk – weeks

Marat Tibilov, the commander of the Nation Guard of Russia, was reportedly killed by Ukrainian forces during a combat mission in Kursk.

Tibilov was personally awarded the 'Hero of Russia' title by Putin.

Tibilov - a celebrated figure within Russia's army - was personally awarded the country's highest honour by Putin last month alongside ten others.

He received the award for repelling Ukrainian attacks in the Kursk region between February 5 and February 8 this year.

At the time, he told pro-Kremlin media: "This is the merit of my entire unit.

"Our unit carried out tasks from the 5th to the 8th in repelling counterattacks on the settlements of Berdino, Rozgrebli, Novosotnitskoye."

He was commander of a special forces group known as the Rosgvardiya, which is separate from the main army.

This elite battalion is responsible for internal law enforcement, couter-terrorism and riot control.

There has been fierce fighting in Kursk over the past few weeks as Russia tries to force out Ukraine from the remaining territory they hold.

THE "Hero of Russia" is the highest honorary title awarded by the Russian Federation. It is bestowed for exception courage and bravery, usually demonstrated during service for the state. The accolade a recognised by a gold star medal. The title, established in 1992, can be awarded during a recipient's lifetime or after death. As of 2015, it had been awarded about 970 times - so that figure is now likely to be much higher.Anyone from scientists and soldiers to politicians and officials can receive the award.

Ukraine grabbed the chunk of land off Russia in August 2024, and it is considered a valuable bargaining chip in negotiations.

However, repeated major Russian offensives have now all but removed Ukrainian forces from the region.

Putin personally visited the frontline in Kursk earlier this month to gee up his tired forces.

Moscow ramped up pressure particularly after Trump's fallout with Zelensky in the White House.

The US temporarily withdrew military aid and halted sharing intelligence with Ukraine, leaving them "blinding".

Russia sensed it could exploit the moment, so hammered Ukraine's supply lines with drones and cut bridges into the occupies territory.

Open source maps show the territory controlled by Ukraine has shrunk to less than a third of what they seized in August.

The area has also been a testing ground for North Korean troops fighting for Russia.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reacted to the 25% auto tariffs the Trump administration announced on Wednesday, calling them a "direct attack" on his country. Carney said in response, Canada would deliver retaliatory trade actions of its own that would have a "maximum impact in the United States."

He added that the "old relationship" the two countries had "based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over."
This is what happens when someone (in this case, Trump) tries to "micromanage" geoeconomic and geopolitical situations. It often pans out wrong down the road.

Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim, CON @ProfIsaPantami

The brutal killings of 16 innocent people, which happened in the Udune Efandion community in Uromi, Edo State, yesterday, 27th March 2025, are highly irresponsible and a clear case of jungle justice. The video has clearly shown human inhumanity to humans in Nigeria.

Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure citizens are protected and culprits are always brought to book without any form of selective justice. It is said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

In addition, the protection of the lives and property of citizens is not a favour but the primary responsibility of government as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution Section 14 (2) (b). I also strongly advise security agencies to carefully analyse the video being circulated on the killings and identify the criminals, and arrest them. The following technologies and their applications are recommended:

1) Object Detection: Identifies specific objects, such as face, skin, clothing, or accessories, using computer vision. Colour, OpenCV, and PyTorch;

2) Facial Recognition Technology (FRT): Uses artificial intelligence (AI) to compare facial features in the video with that of the suspects. Convolutional Neural Networks and OpenFace are apt here; and

3) Deep Learning-based Video Analysis: Uses neural networks to analyse video content. Google Cloud Video Intelligence is relevant in this regard.

I believe the technologies, algorithms, and applications mentioned above can help the security agencies to identify the culprits involved in this brutality and those committed in the past and even the future.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of the victims while praying to Allah to be merciful to them and bring absolute peace and stability in Nigeria. May Allah expose the perpetrators of this crime and all the perpetrators of the previous crimes committed in Nigeria and the world in general.

Fulanis are a minority ethnic group who are NOT more than 25 million in the entire West African countries they claim to come from, way smaller than the indigenous Hausas and Yorubas for instance who number over 80 million each living in multiple West African countries and worldwide. Period.
PoliticsRe: Atiku’s Claims On EFCC Probe, Sanwo-olu’s Support Lies — Bayo Onanuga by Konquest:
iwaeda:
The Presidency has slammed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over claims that he is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over financial transactions linked to the Lagos State Government.

On Thursday, Atiku claimed that the EFCC was probing him in connection with financial activities involving the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Atiku’s claims as baseless and misleading.

The Presidency dismissed the allegations as a “desperate attempt” by Atiku to remain politically relevant through unfounded accusations and social media gossip.

“These claims, circulated through his media office, are false and reflect a troubling pattern of relying on social media gossip over substance,” the statement read.

Onanuga stated that President Bola Tinubu does not have the time nor the inclination to engage in petty political distractions.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on addressing critical national challenges and advancing his administration’s agenda for Nigeria’s growth and stability.

“He has neither the time nor the inclination to engage in petty political distractions,” Onanuga stated.

Onanuga further accused the former Vice President of refusing to embrace the role of a statesman since his electoral defeat, instead choosing to stoke division with “unfounded accusations and unproductive rhetoric.”

He also reiterated the independence of the EFCC, warning that any suggestion of external influence on the anti-graft agency was not only false but damaging to its credibility.

“The EFCC, as an independent institution, operates within its statutory mandate without external influence.

“Any insinuation otherwise is a disservice to the agency’s professionalism and the rule of law,” the statement noted.

Onanuga urged Atiku to channel his energy toward constructive contributions that promote unity, economic development, and democratic stability, adding that such values are what Nigeria needs most at this time.

“Atiku’s allegations are infantile and a transparent ploy to deflect from his political setbacks. His repeated attempts to drag the Presidency and now the Lagos State Government into fabricated controversies reveal a desperate bid for attention amid his fading attempt to cobble a coalition.

Since his defeat in the 2023 presidential election, the former Vice President has failed to rise to the dignified role of an elder statesman. Rather than contributing constructively to the national discourse, he has chosen the path of divisive rhetoric and unfounded accusations,” it added.
https://punchng.com/atikus-claims-on-efcc-probe-sanwo-olus-support-lies-presidency/
The problem here is with Atiku Abubakar's media aide who is highly notorious for releasing press releases laced with falsehoods on behalf of his principal... Sometimes without the go-ahead from Atiku Abubakar.

Immediately I read the allegations when it broke, I knew the FALSE story linking Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu with the funding of Atiku's political campaign to be a totally FAKE story being pushed online and offline by morally bankrupt and irresponsible people.

A few media outfits monitored kept repeating the FAKE story from Atiku's media aide at intervals and it's time to make scape goats out of those who engage in spreading outright disinformation. Period.
TravelRe: Adetunji Opayele Killed By Biola Adams-Odutayo - Teejay Legacy by Konquest: 8:24pm On Mar 28, 2025
nlfpmod:
A petition into the death of Adetunji ‘TeeJay’ Opayele, the Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Nigerian retail automation startup Bumpa, has received over 20,000 signatures on change.org directed to the Lagos State Government.

Techpoint Africa reported that Opayele died on March 5, 2025, after being involved in a car accident. The change.org petition initiated by ‘Teejay Legacy,’ has revealed the details of the accident allegedly caused by one Biola Adams-Odutayo and the events that followed.

According to the petition, Opayele was said to have been returning from the gym and was riding his power bike on March 4, 2025, at about 10:20 p.m. along Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos, when the incident occurred.

“He had the right of way when Miss Biola Adams-Odutayo, driving a vehicle with licence number LND 418 JR, merged onto the express way without considering approaching traffic, thereby crashing into him,” the petition reads in part.

Adams-Odutayo was reportedly returning from dinner at a restaurant by the express way with her friend on the night. She reportedly drove herself while instructing her driver to follow her friend’s car. Despite being in full safety gear, TeeJay was allegedly knocked down and lay unconscious on the road.

In the aftermath of the incident, Adams-Odutayo allegedly refused to step out of her car to check on the victim. Eyewitnesses reportedly rushed to the scene and begged her to help, but she did nothing. When they approached her friend, they were reportedly told, “She doesn’t want blood to stain her car.”

The petition further noted, “As Teejay lay unconscious but still breathing, Biola, a healthcare professional and Head of Health at a reputable insurance brokering firm, chose to stay on a phone call for over 30 minutes instead of helping save a life.”

After much back and forth, the eyewitnesses helped get Opayele to a hospital—after some hospitals refused him treatment—where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of March 5. Without showing remorse, Adams-Odutayo walked into the same hospital and requested a drip, claimed to be in shock, and then tried to flee.

Adams-Odutayo and her family have allegedly used influence and privilege to avoid the full weight of justice. From boasting about their connections to securing lenient charges of mere reckless driving, the response by authorities has left TeeJay’s loved ones feeling betrayed. She reportedly spent just one night in detention, with her bail set at ₦1 million—which she met almost immediately, and has since continued life as usual.

The petitioners are demanding for Adams-Odutayo to be charged with manslaughter rather than the lesser offence of reckless driving, while calling on elected government officials, including the Governor of Osun State, to wade in the matter.

The petition is in line with the comments of Bumpa Co-founder Kelvin Umechukwu, who stated, “Though his presence will be missed, we commit to keeping Teejay’s legacy alive.”

Also, speaking to journalists in Asaba on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the circulating video was “not entirely a true account of what happened at the ceremony.”

He continued, “Our dear First Lady was in our dear state for two good days, not on a holiday, but on a working visit. A whole lot was achieved during that visit, and a lot was given to our people, which has been greatly appreciated.

The commissioner clarified that the First Lady did not visit the School of Nursing in Agbor, explaining that:

“What happened was that she noticed some nurses at the event had expectations regarding the distribution of the medical kits. She apologised to the nurses during the presentation.

She assured the nurses that they would receive their turn in due time through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

“Although some nurses expressed disappointment, there was no hostility or bullying.
“Initially, the nurses were welcoming and happy.

They even danced and cheered as the First Lady spoke. A few of them, however, playfully expressed their feelings by singing a different tune.

This reaction was taken out of context by some individuals on social media, misrepresenting the events to fit their own narratives.

“The viral video, therefore, does not reflect the atmosphere and what truly transpired at the gathering. The commissioner expressed the state government’s appreciation to Mrs Tinubu for her visit and her initiatives.

“We want to say a very big thank you to our First Lady, and our own daughter, who has also shown us love from that Olympian height. She brought in a number of medical kits and other items aimed at helping our younger ones rise and shine.

“We also emphasise that the reaction seen in the video was not characteristic of our nurses but rather a few individuals wishing for equal treatment alongside midwives.”

By Gbenga Oloniniran

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, has deployed four new Intelligent Transport System sites to monitor and detect speeding and manage traffic flows.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this during a press briefing on Thursday, stating that the new installations would complement the existing Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and other Traffic Management Solution devices.

“The checkpoint sites are designed to detect overspeeding. One is located at Alapere, Ogudu Road, with a speed limit of 80km/h, while the other is installed at Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, with a speed limit of 60km/h. These checkpoint sites are strategically located to detect and deter overspeeding, which remains one of the leading causes of road accidents.

“On the other hand, the e-police sites for traffic violations are installed at Allen Avenue Road Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road. These e-police sites are designed to detect a wide range of traffic violations, including running red lights, non-compliance with lane discipline, illegal U-turns and reverse driving on highways,” Osiyemi said.

While appealing to motorists for compliance, he stated that the fine for violating the red light is N20,000 and the fine for violating the speed limit is N50,000.

“It is important to also note that enforcement will commence immediately. Motorists who violate traffic laws as detected by the ITS will receive SMS notifications from the Vehicle Inspection Service department, detailing the nature of the violation and the corresponding fines to be paid.

“This system is not designed to be punitive but to encourage responsible driving behaviour and reduce the rate of accidents on our roads. The goal is simple: to save lives, protect property, and create an orderly transportation environment,” he added.

Present at the briefing included the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, representatives from Huawei Technologies, and key directors from the ministry.

No fewer than ten people lost their lives to jungle justice in Edo State while plying one of the roads in Uromi Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the hunters, who were thought to be kidnappers, were coming from River state to Kano state when they were attacked by a mob.

Eye witness account stated that the hunters were stopped by vigilantes on a normal stop and search. In the cause of their search they found guns, machete, dog and other personal belongings.

Issues escalated when residents of Uromi accused the hunters of being kidnappers. The mob bounced on the suspects and set them ablaze.

The situation got out of hand and was left uncontrolled until all the suspects were burnt beyond recognition.

Security operatives later got the scene of the incident but it was too late to save any suspects from the angry mob.

The deceased bodies have been evacuated from the scene of the incident and investigation have been launched.

Based off of media reports gleaned largely online, Edo State has been under the very intense seige from kidnappers and criminals in the Esan axis where Uromi is located. So, the suspicion by the Edo people of any gun-wielding persons are NOT surprising here.

Henceforth, It’s very important for all so-called Northern Nigeria hunters (including the West African Sahel hunters from other countries pretending to be Northern Nigerians) to DESIST from traveling interstate with "dane guns" because there's been a lot of deep suspicions for years now towards Fulani herders' aggressions, and they'll be seen as armed robbers or kidnappers especially if they DON'T have hunting gun LICENCES. I am concerned by the harrowing display of mob injustice on 16 travelers from Northern Nigeria in Edo State.

This tragedy, which unfolded on March 28, 2025 in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, is another sad reminder of the barbarity of jungle justice.

It is common knowledge that people from all parts of the country should be able to travel without facing any form of harassment or intimidation.

I urge the concerned authorities to launch a full-scale investigation into this sad incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

While praying for the repose of the victims, I extend my condolences to the their families, the Kano State Government and other affected states. - RMK

UncleJJ:
Sour crude oil. Its difficult to refine, sold cheaply.

They cant export it because it is junk. They will sell it to us, we will buy it, and foolishly blame our innocent mechanics.
That crude oil grade named "Obodo" is a "MEDIUM SWEET CRUDE" NOT "Sour Crude oil" as you incorrectly stated based off of the parameters such as the gravity of 27.65°API and VERY LOW sulphur content of 0.05pc.

The very LOW Sulphur content of the crude oil grade here of 0.05pc is CLEARLY an indication of the SWEET CRUDE classification.

The article excerpt posted by the OP right BELOW further emphasizes this FACT of "Obodo" being a MEDIUM SWEET crude oil grade in the same grade as the Nigerian medium sweet Bonga crude oil grade:

An assay reviewed by Argus indicates that Obodo has a gravity of 27.65°API and a sulphur content of 0.05pc.

It was said that the grade is likely to be priced in line with Nigerian medium sweet Bonga, though details on production levels were not immediately available.

PoliticsRe: FG Expands Crude Oil Portfolio, Unveils Obodo Grade by Konquest: 4:02pm On Mar 28, 2025
iwaeda:
A new Nigerian crude grade, medium sweet Obodo, is set to enter the market in April, The PUNCH has learned.

According to Argus Media on Thursday, an independent energy and commodity price benchmarks provider, sources familiar with the development revealed that Nigeria is steadily expanding its crude portfolio.

An assay reviewed by Argus indicates that Obodo has a gravity of 27.65°API and a sulphur content of 0.05pc.

It was said that the grade is likely to be priced in line with Nigerian medium sweet Bonga, though details on production levels were not immediately available.

Nigerian independent Continental Oil & Gas will produce Obodo from onshore oil block OML 150 in the Niger Delta region, and state-owned NNPC will market the crude, according to two sources.

Data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission shows Continental Oil has a stake in OML 150 under a production-sharing contract — typically between the government and a private company.

The newest Nigerian crude will add to the country’s growing supply of medium-sweet grades.

Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited restarted production of similar-quality Utapate in 2024, which followed the launch of Nembe in 2023.

Nigerian medium sweets, including Forcados, Escravos, and Bonga, have predominantly found an outlet in Europe — the largest market for Nigerian crude.

Obodo could also find favour with European refineries, where seasonal maintenance is scheduled to wind down by the end of April and early May.

It was reported that Nigerian grades have faced tepid demand in the April trade cycle as ample availability of lower-priced alternatives such as US WTI, Caspian CPC Blend, and other Mediterranean grades enticed European buyers.

The trade cycle has since shifted to May, with as many as 15 April-loading Nigerian cargoes still looking for buyers, according to market participants.

Nigeria’s upstream regulator NUPRC in March outlined a plan to add 1.07mn b/d to the country’s liquids output by December 2026.

The plan forecasts an injection of capital into Nigerian oil blocks through joint ventures, production-sharing contracts, and sole risk contracts.

Nigeria has struggled to mobilise upstream investment and has consistently fallen short of less ambitious production growth targets in recent years.

The country’s crude production fell by 4.5 per cent on the month to 1.47mn b/d in February, according to NUPRC — just under its OPEC+ quota of 1.5mn b/d.

PoliticsRe: Dispute Resolution: You’re Free To Approach Sharia Panel – Governor Seyi Makinde by Konquest: 3:49pm On Mar 28, 2025
dre11:
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that any resident who wishes to settle disputes through the Sharia Panel is free to do so in the state.

Makinde made this declaration during the 2025 Iftar programme organised by the state government.

The event was attended by Islamic clerics, Muslim leaders, and top government functionaries in the state.

While addressing the gathering, Makinde noted that he needed to clarify the plan to apply Sharia law in some states of the South-West, including Oyo.

He stated that his administration would not oppose anything that aligns with the Constitution.

He explained that members of the public are free to approach the Sharia Panel if they so wish.

The governor, who described the panel as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, emphasised that the courts remain constitutionally empowered to settle all disputes.

According to him: “I read in the newspaper that I would go to court for an interpretation regarding the Sharia Panel, which is ongoing in Oyo. That is not my position.

“My position is that we will support anything that is in our constitution. I made a statement when Muslims in South-Western Nigeria, MUSWEN, came to my office that we should not encourage discord among ourselves, no matter how small.

“My interpretation is that even within our families, not every issue is taken to court. When people have disagreements, the elders in the family try to settle the dispute.

“So, regarding this particular Sharia Panel, whoever wishes to engage with it and sees it as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, it is fine. It will help the government and ensure that fewer cases reach our judges.

“We will encourage alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and the only thing I can say is that if enforcement or further clarification is required, the courts—recognised by the constitution—remain available.”

https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/27/dispute-resolution-youre-free-to-approach-sharia-panel-makinde-tells-oyo-residents/
A Sharia Arbitration Panel is completely different from a Sharia Court. A lot of pro and against NL posters here are ridiculously mixing up the two terms while making taunting and inciting comments. Sharia Panels are NOT strict Sharia courts, BUT are meant to largely resolve family-related issues.

The Sharia Panels (which Makinde referenced in the article) have existed before now in Yorubaland [Lagos State and other Yoruba states] but NOT full-blown Sharia courts which involve passing judgements based off of capital punishments of amputation of hands and outright beheadings as seen in Saudi Arabia and other Islamically strict countries. PoliticsRe: US Lawmaker Writes Tinubu, Requests Setup Of Chicago Consulate Office by Konquest:
zero8zero:
After a thorough review of the bilateral ties between the United States and Nigeria, a member of the US Congress, Danny Davis, has written to President Bola Tinubu, appealing that the Federal Government prioritize the need to quickly setup a Nigeria Consulate office in Chicago, Illinois, to address needs of its citizens residing in the midwest states.

Davis, who argued that this initiative would be highly beneficial for both Nigeria and United States particularly the City of Chicago, would create new opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange between both nations.

He noted that the location of Chicago is strategic considering that it would not only serve Illinois, but also neighboring states such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Iowa, who have Nigerians currently face challenges in accessing essential services provided by the consulate.

Aside from him, the Office of the Mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, is preparing to write the President with the aim of expressing their total support for the office and how the government will ensure its actualization for the benefits of both countries.

The Congressman, who represents the 7th District of Illinois, was said to have written the letter to the President after a lengthy discussion with the Nigeria Diaspora Initiative (NDI) team on why the office must be established.

While declaring his support in the letter written to the President, the lawmaker promised to assist the Federal Government in whatever capacity his services may be needed in setting up the office in Chicago. According to the letter obtained by our correspondent, he said:

“As a Member of Congress representing the 7th District of Illinois, I fully support this initiative, as it would be highly beneficial for both Nigeria and the City of Chicago. “Nigeria holds a prominent position on the African continent, both economically and culturally, and has deep-rooted ties with the United States.

“Establishing a consulate in Chicago would strengthen these bonds, enhance diplomatic relations, and create new opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

“Moreover, it would provide much-needed consular services to Nigerians residing in Chicago and neighboring states such as Wisconsin, Indiana, and Iowa, who currently face challenges in accessing these essential services.

“Given the size and influence of the Nigerian diaspora in the Midwest, I believe this initiative is long overdue. A consulate in Chicago would serve as a vital bridge between Nigeria and the region, fostering greater engagement in business, education, and governance.

“I urge your administration to prioritize this effort and take the necessary steps toward making it a reality. I look forward to further discussions on this important matter and stand ready to assist in any way possible. Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can be of any support in advancing this initiative”.

It was gathered that NDI and other Nigeria’s advocating for the consulate setup include Prof Shaffideen Amuwo, a Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), Alh. Tunji Quadri, a US-based cyber security expert and the General Coordinator of a Nigerian group abroad, Nigeria Diaspora Initiative (NDI), Mr.Tolani Banire, a Manager with vast experience in the Aviation Industry and background in the Hospitality Industry, Dr.Oluwagoke Ajayi, a seasoned Engineer and contractor with the U.S. Department of Defense, Dr. Victor Onafuye Jonathan, an Information Technology (IT) expert, Hon. Femi Odere, who is also a diasporan, Dr. Ewa Ewa and Mr Ganiu Dada and also Nneka RitaMarie Obasi a Senior Community Liaison in the Chicago Mayor’s Office of Immigrant, Migrant, and Refugee Rights (IMRR).

Speaking at one of the forum for the consulate office setup and diaspora voting, Quadri explained that Chicago is strategic considering it’s accessibility for all irrespective of their locations.

He argued that having a Nigerian consulate in Chicago cannot be overstated, particularly in a city with rich history of International trade and tourism.

According to him, the establishment of a Nigerian consulate in Chicago would be a game-changer because it would provide the much-needed resources for Nigerians living in the city and in the neighboring Midwest states, as well as for visitors and Investors who come for business, tourism and others.

The coordinator stressed that having easy access to passport and visa services, document certification, and other key consular services would facilitate business between both countries and reduce unemployment in Nigeria.

Prof Amuwo stated that their love for Nigeria formed basics of their agitation for a consulate office in Chicago, a city in a strategic location where thousands of Nigerians can easily access for their needs.

Amuwo added that new consulate office, when approved by President Bola Tinubu, it will assist the ambassador and the embassy in performing their functions effectively as expected by the federal government. According to him, the choice of Chicago would not only benefit the citizens abroad but strengthen the diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the US.

Banire, on his part, stressed that it aids Nigerians abroad to easily connect with their homeland and promote its culture while in Chicago and other adjourning cities.

He added that with this office, the Nigerian governance will be more closer to the people than before while serving as a contact between the Nigerian government and its citizens.

“The establishment of a Nigerian Consulate plays a crucial role in enhancing the diplomatic and consular services available to Nigerians living abroad. It serves as a vital point of contact between the Nigerian government and its citizens, offering services such as passport renewal, visa applications, legal assistance, and addressing issues of citizenship.

“This not only ensures that Nigerians can access essential services without needing to return home, but it also reinforces their connection to their homeland, promoting a sense of belonging and national unity”.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/03/us-lawmaker-writes-tinubu-request-setup-of-chicago-consulate-office/
That's an impressive idea.

Indeed, aside from the East Coast region and the Southern States of Texas and more, the Midwest of the United States has a huge concentration of Diasporan Nigerians.

If the North Side of "Chitown" CANNOT be used as a consulate office location, then Minneapolis in the State of Minnesota can take the place of Chicago, Illinois. But priority has to be paid towards the sustainable funding of consular staff and their activities. The integration of robust new technologies would reduce the inefficiencies in the system for effective delivery of critical consular services.

Side sonar scan technology led divers to the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder almost buried in mud at the bottom of the river on Thursday near Aurora in southeastern Indiana, across the state border from where the family lived in Ohio, Indiana State Police said Friday in a news release.

The vehicle was registered to Stephanie Van Nguyen, who in 2002 disappeared with her four-year-old daughter, Kristina, and three-year-old son, John.

Van Nguyen left a note that she was going to drive into the Ohio River, but her vehicle was not located at the time, police said.

Dive teams are seen searching the Ohio River near Aurora, Illinois for the vehicle this week.

Advances in sonar technology and the looming anniversary prompted cops to reopen the case 6 months ago.

A car belonging to a pregnant mother who vanished alongside her toddler daughter in 1998 has been pulled from a lake with human remains inside.

The Pope County Sheriff's Office in Arkansas received a call on Tuesday from cold case hunters who claimed they found the car belonging to Samantha Hopper and her daughter, Courtney Holt at a lake in Russellville.

The vehicle was dragged from the lake shortly afterwards, with the Ford Tempo matching the description of the car Hopper was last seen driving.

Human remains have been found inside, but cops have yet to identify them, or offer a possible cause of death.

Hopper and Courtney had been reported missing in September 1998 when Hopper, who was pregnant at the time, was reportedly traveling to drop off her daughter in her blue Ford with plans to attend a concert in Little Rock.

Once the car was removed from the lake, police found the human remains inside and sent them off to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, in Little Rock, for DNA testing.

The incident occurred when a 65-foot-wide and 65-foot-deep sinkhole suddenly opened up beneath the road in Seoul, swallowing the rider along with his motorcycle. Witnesses reported seeing the man, identified by officials as being in his 30s, riding along the road moments before the ground gave way.

Emergency crews worked tirelessly, pumping out water and digging through layers of dirt to locate the victim. After nearly a full day of intense rescue efforts, they recovered his body from the depths of the collapse.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the sinkhole, and investigations are ongoing to assess whether underlying infrastructure issues or natural factors contributed to the tragedy. Insurance firms also use footages from dashcams when it comes to paying insurance claims.

I Planned Abduction Of Late Reverend Father Okechukwu In Kaduna Because I Needed N200,000 – Suspect Confesses

A man arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of Rev. Fr. Sylvester Okechukwu has admitted to masterminding the crime, citing financial desperation as his motive.

The suspect, whose name has been withheld, told reporters at the Headquarters of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday that he orchestrated the priest’s kidnapping to raise N200,000 for a personal issue.

“Fr. Okechukwu was living in our house at Tachira, and I planned his kidnap because I needed N200,000. I invited some guys from other places to assist me in the operation, but I didn’t ask them to kill him,” he claimed.

Okechukwu, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State, was abducted on March 4 at his residence in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area.

However, his body was discovered the following day.

Another suspect, also in custody, admitted being recruited but denied involvement in the priest’s death.

“At first, I refused to join, but he insisted. He later brought in others from Bokkos in Plateau, who came with guns. After we kidnapped the priest and walked for some distance, we left him with them. I don’t know why they killed him,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigerian reports that the troops arrested the suspects during a raid on a settlement in Warsa-Piti, Lere Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, OPSH officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.

PhonesRe: MTN, Airtel Plan Cost Reduction In Network Sharing Deal by Konquest: 12:14pm On Mar 28, 2025
Great100000:
MTN Group and Airtel Africa have signed a network infrastructure-sharing agreement in Nigeria and Uganda, aiming to reduce costs and expand mobile connectivity in underserved areas.

Under the agreement, both companies will explore various models of network collaboration, including Radio Access Network sharing and fibre infrastructure partnerships. This could involve the construction of new fibre networks where necessary.

The telecom giants announced the deal on Wednesday, highlighting its role in optimising operational expenses and enhancing service delivery, particularly in rural regions where access to digital services remains limited.

MTN and Airtel, which control 51.79 per cent and 34.11 per cent of Nigeria’s telecom market, respectively, have both been impacted by foreign exchange losses due to the depreciation of the naira.

To mitigate FX exposure, both MTN and Airtel have reduced investments in network infrastructure. This slowdown is part of their strategy to minimise foreign exchange losses and manage rising operational costs, such as surging energy

MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer Ralph Mupita said the demand for data services continues to grow across Africa, reinforcing the need for strategic investments.

“At MTN, we are driven by the vision of delivering digital solutions that drive Africa’s progress and will continue to see strong structural demand for digital and financial services across our markets.

“To meet this demand, we continue to invest in coverage and capacity to ensure high-quality connectivity for our customers. That said, there are opportunities within regulatory frameworks for sharing resources to drive higher efficiencies and improve returns,” he said in a statement.

Following the Nigeria and Uganda agreements, both operators are exploring similar infrastructure-sharing opportunities in other markets, including Congo-Brazzaville, Rwanda, and Zambia.

Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar described the partnership as a practical approach to building a more extensive digital infrastructure while ensuring cost efficiency.

“As we compete fiercely in the market on the strength of our brand, services and offerings, we are building common infrastructure within the permissible regulatory framework.

“This provides a more robust and extensive digital highway to drive digital and financial inclusion while avoiding duplication of expensive infrastructure to drive operational efficiencies and benefits for our customers,” he said.

Airtel Africa serves over 156 million customers across 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, while MTN Group operates in 19 countries across Africa and the Middle East, with a customer base of 287 million.

Indeed, infrastructure-sharing in the telecoms sector is the way to go to reduce costs within the permissible regulatory framework. This is a standard global practice and should have been implemented long ago within the African telecoms ecosystem.

When I see these kids I just laughed. I wish I was younger again and there would be certain decisions I wouldn't have taken. I was paid 19,500 naira that time when I served in Bauchi state; after my one year service, I saved up to 50k naira cash and went back to the east. From the east, I head to Lagos. That was how life started. My port of call then was at Ago Palace. Sadly, the cousin that I lived with that works in a bank refused to provide me with basic three square meal. The guys literally starve me to death that I had to deep in my pocket to feed my self continuously with the 50k of my life saving. When he was defiant, I left him to the east. Stayed with my mum. In fact, it was even a harder decision because all hell was let loose. She never had patient with me either.

I was back to Lagos after going almost one year; this time around, in my Uncle's house. Another gate of hell was opened. This time, it was my uncle's wife. When I landed in that house, I never wanted to work in her school but she somehow influenced the decision and stopped the stipend my uncle was promising to be paying me till I get a job. This woman made me her b*tch in that school. I wake up by 4:30am, enter the bus and we drove till 6:30am, then the school starts at 7:00am. I will teach from SS 1 to SS 3. The school closes by 5pm, we enter the bus and arrived 8pm in the night, sometimes 9pm. Because I live in a house that look like a security house, this woman gave me a kitchen and an utensils to fed for myself. By that time, I was weak, no food. I will buy bread to eat. Then again I will wake up by 4:30am again. The cycle continues... Until... In fact I can't finish my storyline. Fast forwarded.... I traveled out of NIGERIA after "Nigeria" dealt with me. Today I am married with a kid and wonderful family.
I just saw a post on this same page 3 that was made by an NL poster who is simply clueless about what the post directly right above is all about.

The summary of the post right above is that emphasis must be placed by all (especially the younger people) on SAVINGS and perseverance when faced with the pressures of everyday living. It was the initial N50k savings he made from the monthly N19,500 paid while on national service that saw him through the cost of feeding and surviving while staying with a cousin of his when he migrated to Lagos for better job prospects.
