PoliticsRe: Uwazuruike Defends Wike, Blasts Fubara Over Rivers Crisis by Konquest: 2:23am On Mar 21, 2025
Goodvibes007:
Founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and leader of BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has defended former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike while blaming Siminalayi Fubara for his removal from office.

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Uwazuruike stated that Fubara was the architect of his own misfortune, insisting that the crisis could have been avoided if he had honored his agreement with Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“Whoever advised Fubara to fight Wike, who made him governor, did not advise him well,” Uwazuruike wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

He added: “If you know you are a politician and you are approached to do a dirty job which your conscience doesn’t want you to do at that moment, say ‘I won’t do it’ or ‘I can’t do it’, that makes you a gentleman.”

Uwazuruike also blamed Fubara for not listening to the counsel of prominent personalities like former Ekiti State Governor Fayose. “If Fubara had listened to the counsel of some people like Fayose, he would not have fallen into this temptation. It would have been avoided.”

“All of these things happening in Rivers State could have been avoided if one party had kept his own part of the promise. This is very common in Southeast and South South. When somebody will bring you from obscurity and made you a governor and at the end of the day, you refused to keep your own part of the bargain. It is not good.

“Some people will say you are voted by the masses, which masses, if nobody gave you the chance or the ticket of the party, the masses would not have seen you to vote for you.

“You want to play a card and you have forgotten that as a civil servant, the highest you could go is becoming the permanent secretary. Somebody brought you out and made you the governor, you turned around to make him a bad guy, it is unjust.”

In a scathing critique of Nigeria’s political system, Uwazuruike stated, “There is no better governor in Nigeria who doesn’t steal money because the country is corrupt. Wike is not the only devil in Nigeria politics, all the other governors are devils and corrupt. No one should play the victim card.”

CelebritiesRe: I Lost All My Savings, MrMacaroni Shares Financial Struggle, Disclose ₦500m debt by Konquest: 2:02am On Mar 21, 2025
[quote author=obembet post=134637660]Popular Nigerian activist and actor, Mr Macaroni, has taken to social media to share a deeply personal experience about financial loss, debt, and betrayal, hoping his story serves as a lesson to others.

He shared his experience in a recent X post, wherein he recounted losing all his life savings to a scam and bad investment.

You all know I never bring my personal issues to social media. I only wish to share this with my community because I want people to learn from my experience. Also a part of me won’t rest until i publicly thank God for his grace; therefore I feel obliged to do this.

Sometime around 2021/2022 I was victim of a scam and simultaneously a failed investment that cost me all I had saved at the time.

It shook me deeply but I told NO ONE about it. If you know me well enough, you would know I do not like to share my problems. I could be going through the worst and at the same time helping others solve their own problems but I just would never share mine.

Also, my training in Theatre is that the show must go on. As a Thespian, I have a duty to continue to entertain, inform, educate and use my art to make society a better place. So it didn’t matter whatever it was I was going through. The show must go on!

After I lost all the money I had then, Trouble started when I had to borrow money from different sources to settle all pending commitments and also fulfill certain responsibilities i have always believed were mine to fulfill. I make money in millions so I never thought borrowing money to pay back with interests could ever be a problem. But I got too comfortable and it took me a long time to realize that I was using the money I was earning to pay back interests. Also, my financial recklessness did not help.

Please don’t borrow money! But if you must, please be responsible.

I’m not perfect. I try to be as honest as possible. I am a financially reckless person. I know it. My family and friends have always said it. And this is way before fame.

This is how I have been for as long as I can remember. I would give out my money for lunch to someone who didn’t have breakfast, forgetting that I would go hungry when it’s time for lunch. If you are like me, please learn to share your breakfast and keep your money for lunch.

( I have always known this but I am a stubborn person 🤦🏾‍♂️I would give out Breakfast, lunch and if possible dinner)

I have somehow attributed that to a mandate from God. I tell myself all the time that the reason God has blessed me with anything I have is so that I can help people. But I know that even God does not want us to be reckless.
Back to my story, I was now in serious debt.. but it didn’t stop my recklessness.

Foreign AffairsRe: French Space Researcher Denied Entry To The US Over Messages About Trump by Konquest: 1:52am On Mar 21, 2025
AImiron:
A French researcher was denied entry to the United States after US authorities found messages about President Donald Trump on his phone, a French government official said on Thursday.

France’s minister of higher education and research Philippe Baptiste said that the researcher was traveling to a conference near Houston earlier this month when US authorities found that his phone “contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policies.

The researcher was then denied entry to the US and expelled from the country, Baptiste said.

The French ministry of higher education and research said that he worked in the field of space research, and that the incident took place on March 9.

“Freedom of opinion, free research, and academic freedom are values that we will continue to proudly uphold,” Baptiste said in a statement.

“I will defend the right of all French researchers to adhere to these values, while respecting the law, regardless of the country in which they find themselves,” he added

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told CNN that they could not speak about specific cases but that all people entering the US “are subject to inspection on a case-by-case basis.

If an individual has material discovered on their electronic media that raises flags during an inspection, it can result in further analysis. Claims that such decisions are politically motivated are completely unfounded,” Hilton Beckham, CBP Assistant Commissioner of Public Affairs, said in a statement.

NYSCRe: They Move In, Mess It Up, Call It Smelly – Lagos Govt by Konquest: 8:56am On Mar 20, 2025
chopnaira:
The Lagos State Government has slammed the member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ushie Uguamaye, for stating that “Lagos is smelling.”

In a chat with our correspondent, the Director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adesina, stated that despite seeing Lagos as smelly, the corps member still goes about enjoying the night life the city has to provide as seen in her TikTok videos.

He said those who hold such view are actually the ones who troop into Lagos in droves to put undue pressure on the infrastructure in the state.

“They can always say whatever they want to say, but what they fail to realise is that it is the same people who come into Lagos in droves, in thousands on a daily basis, that make a mess of all the steps that the state government is always putting in place. Yes, they are the ones.

“When we say there should be no street trading, they are the same ones who carry backpack on their back, who come into Lagos with no family, no kind of lineage, or where to put their head at night and sleep. They are the ones selling at the bus stops or even in the traffic.
They are the ones messing up the roads with open defecation. They are the ones who engage in it, and at the same time they turn around to accuse the government of not doing what is right.

“They are the same people who make a mess of all the programs and plans to put in place, and when you try to even use the long hands of the law on them, people keep shouting, the government is too draconian. You are applying force.

“You can’t stop them; they will tell you they are citizens of Nigeria which allows free movement, free exit for everybody. There is no law that says ‘Mister, you cannot come from Sokoto or from Anambra State to Lagos.’ You can’t stop them.

“Their influx is part of what has put some of the undue pressures on our social social infrastructure. So me, I won’t be the one to to be propagating all the nonsensical thought she talked about. I’ve seen several pictures of the lady in night clubs and all the rest, enjoying herself in the same Lagos,” he said.

Further speaking, he said despite what such people think about Lagos, global organisations have always rated the state in good light.

On the corps member’s claim that the cost of living in Lagos is too high, Adeshina pointed out that the situation is not peculiar to the state alone.

He said, “If you say things are too expensive, global recession is not only about Lagos. I remember the last time I had opportunity of traveling. What you normally buy for $1, when we went there, they were selling for five, six, 10 dollars. When I asked the people, they said, well, it’s not only in Nigerian, the issue is global.”

He said the life on the island and places like Lekki is not meant for everyone, just as he urged people to live within their means.

PoliticsRe: Trans-Niger Pipeline Resumes Operations After Explosion by Konquest: 8:17am On Mar 20, 2025
nlfpmod:
The Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo community, Gokana local government area (LGA) of Rivers state, has resumed operations.

On Monday night, fire erupted on a segment of the TNP along the Bodo-Bonny road.

In the video of the incident on social media, flames were seen rising in the sky from the inferno.

The TNP, a critical federal oil transport line, feeds crude oil to the Bonny export terminal in Rivers state.

The explosion led to a temporary shutdown and raised concerns about potential environmental damage and oil supply disruption in the region.

Tony Okonedo, Renaissance Group’s spokesperson, told TheCable on Wednesday that operations have resumed.

“Operations have resumed. We previously suspended operations to respond to a third-party interference but now we have resumed,” Okonedo said.

The explosion of the pipeline came amid political tension in Rivers.

On Monday, lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), commenced impeachment proceedings against Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers following the prolonged political crisis in the south-south state.

The president also suspended Fubara, Ngozi Odu, his deputy, and members of the state assembly.

Tinubu nominated Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral, to administer the state

He’s right! U.K is no longer migrant-friendly for Africans. Majority of people who have never lived in the U.K or most western nations for that matter think these types of videos were made to discourage others from relocating to the U.K when in fact they’re actually spitting facts as harsh as it may seem/sound!

Majority who ignore these video warnings eventually regret relocation and find themselves stuck after relocation as it becomes difficult to raise enough capital to go back home and start afresh.
There are 3 people I personally know in this situation who wish they had heed previous warnings but unfortunately can’t go back to Nigeria! They are stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Jobs are hard to come by even with good qualifications; taxes can be as high as 50% depending on your line of work; rent or mortgage is a killer; the NHS is on the verge of collapse; cost of utilities are higher than normal; and the weather is never stable.

While one may get some relief in being in a society where electricity is constant; the overall economy of the U.K is dwindling. Citizens are getting taxed to death at every turn so most people only survive on a third of their income making it extremely hard to save for rainy days.

This advice is genuine but every man/woman will have to decide if relocation or staying put in Nigeria is better!

God1000:
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd) as Administrator for Rivers State, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state’s House of Assembly.

Tinubu made this appointment during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday amid the political and insecurity crisis in Rivers State.

In his declaration, Tinubu assured that the judicial arm of Rivers State would remain unaffected by the suspension and continue to carry out its constitutional duties, noting that Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas will not make any new laws.

The president stated: “In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State. For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to function in accordance with their constitutional mandate.

“The Administrator will not make any new laws. He will, however, be free to formulate regulations as may be found necessary to do his job, but such regulations will need to be considered and approved by the Federal Executive Council and promulgated by the President for the state.

“This declaration has been published in the Federal Gazette, a copy of which has been forwarded to the National Assembly in accordance with the Constitution. It is my fervent hope that this inevitable intervention will help to restore peace and order in Rivers State by awakening all the contenders to the constitutional imperatives binding on all political players in Rivers State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.”
https://guardian.ng/breakingnews/tinubu-appoints-vice-admiral-ibokette-ibas-as-rivers-administrator/?
This move was meant to act as a WARNING to both stubborn sides in the Rivers State imbroglio. After the first 6 months of suspension, if they are all able to get their senses back, they'll all get back into office.

The two blown up strategic crude oil pipelines were early warning signs that some criminally minded people were already trying to throw Rivers State into chaos and that will NOT be allowed. This state of emergency is a preemptive strike to prevent things from escalating further. The lives of Rivers State indigenes and residents is more paramount than these two groups of arrogant and egotistic politicians. Period.

Thanks for coming to brainstorm on this important topic, if u noticed, this topic actually angered so many guys and I really do understand why. Reason is that, many people come from different backgrounds according to Robert Kiyasaki.

Some come from the E-background,some from the S-background,while some from B- and I backgrounds or quadrants.
The

E...means Employee
S...self employed
B... business owner
I.....investors

These people usually react differently and this could be based on each persons risk appetites such as where one person's belong to.

That is why I never wanted to respond to their abuses on my person.

Additionally, when it comes to financial decision,it is not usually a global issue, rather it is a personal decision that ought to be taken care of as an emergency.
Well said... Impressive takes.

I've had all Robert Kiyosaki's books in my home library and more since the 1990s till date. "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill is another timeless classic that I first read back in the early 1990s. "The Millionaire Mind" is another book everyone should read as a foundation to restructure your mind from all the fossilized social constructs about money and wealth.

There's a lot more books on time management and investments that are available out there by reading book reviews online.

President Tinubu declares state of emergency in Rivers, Suspends Governor Fubara, House of Assembly

Text of the Broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, declaring State of Emergency in Rivers state on Tuesday 18 March 2025

Fellow Nigerians, I feel greatly disturbed at the turn we have come to regarding the political crisis in Rivers State. Like many of you, I have watched with concern the development with the hope that the parties involved would allow good sense to prevail at the soonest, but all that hope burned out without any solution to the crisis.

With the crisis persisting, there is no way democratic governance, which we have all fought and worked for over the years, can thrive in a way that will redound to the benefit of the good people of the state. The state has been at a standstill since the crisis started, with the good people of the state not being able to have access to the dividends of democracy.

Also, it is public knowledge that the Governor of Rivers State for unjustifiable reasons, demolished the House of Assembly of the state as far back as 13th December 2023 and has, up until now, fourteen (14) months after, not rebuilt same. I have made personal interventions between the contending parties for a peaceful resolution of the crisis, but my efforts have been largely ignored by the parties to the crisis. I am also aware that many well-meaning Nigerians, Leaders of thought and Patriotic groups have also intervened at various times with the best of intentions to resolve the matter, but all their efforts were also to no avail. Still, I thank them.

On February 28, 2025, the supreme court, in a judgment in respect of about eight consolidated appeals concerning the political crisis in Rivers State, based on several grave unconstitutional acts and disregard of rule of law that have been committed by the Governor of Rivers State as shown by the evidence before it pronounced in very clear terms:

“a government cannot be said to exist without one of the three arms that make up the government of a state under the 1999 Constitution as amended. In this case the head of the executive arm of the government has chosen to collapse the legislature to enable him to govern without the legislature as a despot. As it is there is no government in Rivers State.”

The above pronouncement came after a catalogue of judicial findings of constitutional breaches against the Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Going Forward in their judgment, and having found and held that 27 members of the House who had allegedly defected

“are still valid members of Rivers State House of Assembly and cannot be prevented from participating in the proceedings of that House by the 8th Respondent (that is, the Governor) in cohorts with four members”

The Supreme Court then made some orders to restore the state to immediate constitutional democracy. These orders include the immediate passing of an Appropriation Bill by the Rivers State House of Assembly which up till now has not been facilitated.

In fact, let me add this last point. In the light of the current increase in global population India overtook China in 2023 as the most populous country in the world. As I type this, both countries are experiencing levels of unemployment with India churning out thousands of new engineers and college graduates each year. In China, some people who read investment banking and finance CANNOT even get corporate jobs, so, they have to manage jobs as waiters and blue colar work which are different from what they studied in college.

So, having a knowledge of financial literacy (or financial education) in investing in different physical and financial assets globally among other skills such as agribusiness (based on my observations from back in the 1990s) would bail out people down the road in the absence of sustainable jobs globally.

Nice thread.

Do not listen to op, live your life at your own pace and never compare yourself to others. Rather you should compare your present self to your past to ensure you are making consistent progress. I bought my first car at 22 and also bought for my dad the same day. I bought a 33,000ltr petroleum tanker for Ago business before 30 but still I do not diminish or look down on the struggles of individuals who do not have same opportunities I had in Nigeria. I was merely lucky to work good multinationals from my early 20ies.

Live your life at your own pace, try to be better every day in some form and take care of your health. Do not feel bad if you do not have a car or house at 35, you understand your own struggles the best. Life is a rat race and none of us is coming out of this race alive.

"A man without assets is a man without leverage.

Before 35, you need to stop living like time is on your side. It isn’t. Every year wasted is a year you don’t get back. Owning a car and land isn’t about luxury....it’s about control. Control over your mobility, your options, and your future.

Here’s the game plan:

1. Master a High-Income Skill – Forget chasing quick cash. Learn a skill that will pay you consistently, whether it’s sales, coding, trading, or business. Money follows skill.

2. Control Your Expenses – Stop flexing for people who don’t care. Cut out useless spending, overpriced trends, and social validation that does nothing for your future. Every unnecessary dollar spent is a dollar stolen from your dreams.

3. Build Credit & Save Ruthlessly – Use credit wisely, not recklessly. Stack your savings like your life depends on it, because it does. A land deposit today is wealth tomorrow.

4. Make Money Work for You – Invest. Whether it’s real estate, stocks, crypto, or a side hustle, put your money in places where it grows while you sleep.

5. Move in Silence, Win in Private – Announce nothing, just execute. Let them see your success, not your struggle.

Why? Because past 35, life doesn’t get easier....it gets realer. Your value as a man is tied to what you build, not what you fantasize about. A man with assets moves differently. He doesn’t beg, he negotiates. He doesn’t wait for opportunities, he creates them.

Start now. The future is coming whether you're ready or not."

While it's true that people have to set financial literacy and life goals for themselves, it should be measurable goals and if you don't hit your target within a specific time frame, you use creative methods to restrategize.

The reality is that many people hit the big league in career, business and life in general in their 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s. These are verifiable universal facts.

Though a successful attorney and investment banker in the United States, Mr. Bayo Ogunlesi did NOT become a Forbes-listed USD billionaire until he was in his early 70s. The U.S.-based Bayo Ogunlesi is one of only 6 folks of Nigerian descent who are currently listed as the ONLY legit Forbes-listed USD billionaires in 2025, though if you add Mrs Folorunso Alakija to the list, that'll make a total of 7 Nigerians who have ever been named officially as Forbes and Bloomberg Billionaires Index USD billionaires. So, everything has a time and season for manifestation. Period.

Another explosion has occurred at a pipeline manifold in the Omwawriwa axis of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State on Tuesday.

This comes just hours after a similar explosion rocked the Trans Niger Pipeline operated by Shell in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area.

The latest incident reportedly occurred at a manifold connecting a federal pipeline deep inside the forest.

The pipeline transports crude oil to Brass in Bayelsa State.

While the explosion has yet to be officially confirmed, community sources said they saw massive flames and thick smoke rising from an oil installation in the forest.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she would verify the incident but had yet to respond as of the time of filing this report.

A video seen by our correspondent shows a large fire burning in a remote location.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Ijaw youths on Tuesday blocked the Ahoada axis of the East-West Road leading to Bayelsa State in protest.

Numbering over 100, the demonstrators carried placards in solidarity with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid his political feud with the state House of Assembly.

Some of the placards read: “We demand Wike’s sack as FCT Minister” and “Martin Amaewhule and 26 lawmakers have defected and lost their seats.”

A bill that seeks to amend the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, to require social media platforms to establish physical offices within the country has scaled second reading in the Senate.

The bill, titled ‘A Bill for an Act to Amend the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, to Mandate the Establishment of Physical Offices within the Territorial Boundaries of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Social Media Platforms, and for Related Matters, 2025 (SB. 650),” was sponsored by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko APC, Delta North.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio then referred it to the Senate Committee on ICT and cyber security to report back in 2 months.

In his lead debate on the general principles of the bill, Senator Nwoko explained that Nigeria as Africa’s most populous nation with over 220 million people has a significant digital presence, ranking first in Africa and second globally in terms of social media usage, spending an average of three hours and 46 minutes daily online, according to a Global Web Index report cited by Business Insider Africa.

He highlighted that despite the high engagement, multinational social media corporations such as Facebook, X, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat do not maintain physical offices in Nigeria, unlike in other climes.

Senator Nwoko outlined several challenges resulting from the absence of social media offices in Nigeria, including: Limited local representation; Economic losses as well as Challenges in Legal and Data Protection Compliance.

The bill also proposes new regulations for bloggers operating in Nigeria. It mandates that all bloggers must establish a verifiable office in any of the capital cities across the country, maintain proper employee records and belong to a recognized national association of bloggers, headquartered in Abuja.

According to Senator Nwoko, this measure is intended to promote accountability, transparency, and professionalism in Nigeria’s digital media space, similar to traditional media houses, just as he asserts that the bill is not an attack on social media platforms but a demand for equity and respect for Nigeria’s position as a global leader in digital engagement.

TimeManager:
The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its efforts to tackle the growing threat of kidnapping in the state, recording significant breakthroughs in recent operations that led to the arrest of several suspects and their collaborators.

In recent months, residents of Ondo State have faced increased cases of abduction, with kidnappers demanding huge ransoms from victims’ families. This disturbing trend prompted the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, to launch strategic operations aimed at dismantling the criminal networks responsible.

Briefing journalists on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed that the command’s persistence paid off with the arrest of 21-year-old Abdullahi Mallam Bala, a suspected member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating around the state capital.

Bala was intercepted in a forested area but could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence there. Upon investigation, it was revealed that he was actively working with other members of a well-organized syndicate, including two men identified as Ibrahim Dan and Alahu Umar.

Afolabi noted that Umar had previously been arrested earlier in the year for his role in several kidnapping cases and is currently in custody, reinforcing the pattern of re-emerging criminal collaborations in the region.

The police operation also led to the arrest of Kolawole Sunday, 39, a commercial motorcyclist. During interrogation, Kolawole confessed to providing critical support to the kidnappers. He admitted to serving as a food supplier and informant, monitoring movements and tipping off the syndicate.

Building on this momentum, the police intensified their investigation, leading to the arrest of two more suspects — Umar Abubakar Sanda and Yusuf Almanac. Sanda, during questioning, confessed that his primary role was to guide kidnapped victims through the forest, ensuring their captivity.

Further intelligence gathering exposed the involvement of another commercial motorcyclist, Lekan Temitope, popularly known as Legelege. Temitope’s role, according to the police, involved transporting supplies, including food items, to the kidnappers in their hideouts while also assisting with their movement.

The police command’s operations culminated in a major raid on March 14, 2025, when officers, supported by local vigilantes and hunters, stormed a bushy area in Ipele.

Two more suspects, 45-year-old Rilwan Saliku and 19-year-old Umar Isyaku, were arrested during the operation. A search revealed ₦3.5 million in Saliku’s possession, which he claimed was proceeds from his Point of Sale (POS) business.

However, the police are investigating the source of the funds due to suspected links to ransom payments.

While addressing the press, CP Afolabi assured the public that the police remain resolute in their commitment to rooting out criminal elements in the state. He reiterated the command’s readiness to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Afolabi also commended the Inspector-General of Police for equipping the command with modern gadgets and resources, which have significantly boosted the effectiveness of their operations.

“These arrests send a clear message to criminal elements that Ondo State will not be a safe haven for kidnappers and their sponsors. Our joint efforts with other security agencies, local vigilantes, and hunters will continue until the state is free from these threats,” he stated.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to aid ongoing operations.

I used to think many Nigerians visit home until I vanished from Naija myself. Such instill fears.

An African American Family had wanted to visit Africa for the first time and they chose Nigeria. The same week they were to be airlifted, they saw the circulating WhatsApp video of those 2 brothers who were burnt to ashes in Onitsha for collecting illegal revenues. Right there, they reneged on their decision and canceled everything
There are many Naija Families who haven't been to Africa except father and probably mother. And if they want to, they sojourn to East, Southern Africa, and black dominated areas like the Bahamas, Belize, & Jamaica.
True that.

I remember back in the 2000s when a Diasporan visited his home state in the South East of Nigeria from the United States with his wife and kids (including his daughters) for the FIRST time ever and they all got kidnapped for ransom at the time when the South East states of especially Anambra, Imo, and Abia were experiencing the first to seconds waves of vicious cases of kidnappings and armed robberies which started in the late 1990s. It was a traumatic experience as reported in the media and if they survived it, I'm certain those American-born kids would NEVER want to visit the South East of Nigeria again because of the mental and physical trauma they all experienced.

On the other hand, Jamaica has scenic beaches and resorts, BUT parts of Jamaica have vicious crime rates though. So, it's better to have a tour guide for first-time visitors to that island country in order to be safer.

Succinctly stated.

Two strategic pipeline installations were blown up yesterday and they (some Ijaw elements) expected that a state of emergency would not be impossed. Those criminal moves of blowing up strategic pipelines were really STUPID, in addition to causing oil spills and oil pollution which costs a lot to clean up!

The largely good folks of Rivers State just need absolute peace NOW from these two very stubborn, bickering groups belonging to Fubara and the Rivers law makers. The Rivers people need to get their salaries paid, have developmental spread and more. At the end of 6 months, the brains of all these men would have been reset permanently and they will learn to respect themselves. Then they can all get back to office. Period.
PoliticsRe: 'Nigeria Could Be The Next Turkey' - Foreign Investors Hail Economic Turnaround by Konquest:
Tellmeastory:
Bet on Nigerian recovery draws investors seeking to dodge trade wars

Africa’s most populous country among former crisis-hit economies attracting foreign inflows

Foreign investors have flocked to Nigeria’s markets in recent months, as the threat of a US trade war with larger developing economies has sent portfolio managers looking for cover in former crisis-hit frontier markets now on the rebound.

The Nigerian naira is among the world’s top-performing currencies since November’s US election with a rise of more than 7 per cent against the dollar, as a turnaround in the continent’s most populous nation — and the lure of yields of 20 per cent to 25 per cent — trigger a rally in the local bond market following a massive devaluation.

The rally in Nigerian assets reflects how “idiosyncratic” trades, or specific bets on countries coming out of currency crises or defaults, are in favour as investors are finding it increasingly hard to read how US President Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs will affect emerging markets as a whole.

“Even though everyone is doing a rethink with Trump’s policies and the inflation impact, if at all, of tariffs, investors are looking for potential places to invest that might be able to be resilient to all of that going on in the background,” said Razia Khan, Standard Chartered’s head of research for Africa and the Middle East.

Commodity-exporting frontier economies such as Nigeria are less integrated into the US economy than richer emerging markets that produce higher-value goods such as automobiles or electrical goods. That insulates the former group from wider tariff-driven sell-offs, said Alexis de Mones, debt portfolio manager at Ashmore, the emerging markets asset manager.

“They don’t have high trade surpluses with the US [and] they are not as exposed to the noise from tariffs in general,” he said.

Many of these countries are also coming off very difficult periods after high global interest rates in recent years led foreign investors to pull their money out, which exposed weak currencies and sent governments either to the IMF for help or forced drastic self-help economic policies.

Egypt, Turkey and other countries that were hit by capital flight have enticed investors back in the past year with tough economic medicine to raise interest rates. Dropping unsustainable pegs to the dollar has helped drive double-digit returns on local currency bonds. Nigerian local currency government bonds have also performed well, especially in the past month.

Many emerging market hedge funds produced their best returns in years by chasing these opportunities last year, and similar moves in dollar bonds of countries such as Argentina and Ecuador.

“Foreign portfolio investors are thinking Nigeria could be the next Turkey,” said Charlie Robertson, head of macro strategy at FIM Partners. “There’s been proper change in the fundamentals of the Nigerian economy . . . two years ago, you had a currency that was uninvestable.”

Nigeria’s stock market has gained about 4 per cent in dollar terms this year, better than many bigger markets. Nigeria had fallen off the radar for many international investors in recent years as controls on the naira made it difficult to extricate profits.

Since President Bola Tinubu took office nearly two years ago, his government has removed fuel subsidies that had burned up foreign reserves, while the central bank removed a peg that propped up the value of the naira and increased rates to 27.5 per cent.

The currency lost 70 per cent of its value against the dollar after two devaluations, but it has stabilised since November and is currently trading at what many observers believe is closer to its fair value, at 1,541 to the dollar

“There has been a series of economic reforms that have really made a difference in the tradability of Nigeria from a local currency assets point of view,” de Mones said. “Under the previous administration, the naira was kept at an artificially high level,” he said. “If you had invested in a prior period and you had to get dollars out, you had to get in the queue.”

Despite the inflows of dollars from bonds bought by foreign investors, and a recovery in oil production to a four-year high last month, Nigeria’s gross reserves have fallen so far this year, to $38.5bn from $40bn.

Investors said the drop was likely to reflect the central bank paying down debts that inflated the gross reserves measure. This would improve net reserves, but these are not published. Policymakers also appear to be targeting stability or slight appreciation in the naira, investors added.

“I think they’re intervening to make sure the naira doesn’t come under a speculative attack,” said Bismarck Rewane, chief executive of Lagos-based consultancy Financial Derivatives. “My personal worry is that if oil prices drop or there’s a real reversal in gains from foreign portfolio inflows, the currency could be at real risk.”

Inflation is also elevated at 23 per cent as of February, with higher food prices driving the high cost of living. “For the second leg of the trade, you need to see disinflation kick in,” said de Mones.

StanChart’s Khan said: “We shouldn’t underplay the very real pain that ordinary Nigerians have felt through this liberalisation experience. The pain that people took may mean it takes a while longer before the benefits of all this are realised.”

While the naira still appears cheap and insulated from trade risks versus other emerging markets, “it has become a more populated trade for foreign investors”, one manager said. “The more interest there is in these trades, the less idiosyncratic it is in terms of risk.”

Those are impressive takes from the respected London Financial Times about FPI inflows into the bonds market, BUT Domestic Direct Investments (DDIs) are largely the best for the medium to long-term stability of Asian, African, and Latin American Emerging economies of which Nigeria is a part of.

DDI must be given a massive priority (to complement any FPI and FDI inflows) because FPIs can be very fickle even though they bring in FX which creates an illusion, but when they start pulling out all of a sudden, it affects the local economy through exchange rate instability. Period.
