simpleseyi: There was no bombing of national assets and no threat of burning down the state and country by indegenes or politicians. There was no burning of the Assembly. When the President called them to order, they complied, but when the President mediated in Rivers crisis, he was called different unprintable names.
Lastly, Tinubu’s SoE is to protect Fubara from impeachment. If not for the SoE, Fubara would have been impeached overnight in one beer parlour since he has burnt down the State Assembly complex. So Tinubu actually checkmated the Assembly by the SoE which had stopped the planned impeachment. Now, Fubara can come back in 6 months, but if Tinubu had waited for about 48 hours, the kindergarten governor would have been impeached and he will not have the opportunity of coming back in 6 months which Tinubu just granted him.
Utomi and his gang are so dumb Indeed, if Pat Utomi said all that nonsense comparing the just few weeks-old Lagos State situation with the 1 year-long Rivers State quagmire leading to the 2 very quick blowing ups of strategic crude oil pipelines by criminal saboteurs with political motives, then Utomi MUST be clearly going senile and stupid! Rivers State is a very important state in Nigeria and the State of Emergency was needed as a preemptive strike to stop further chaos and destabilizations of the good folks of Rivers State. ONLY anarchists would support the way things were being run by both sides in the political quagmire. There's just NO basis for comparisons between the two states of Lagos and Rivers here. Period. |

robosky02: Osimhen overtakes Odegbami, now Nigeria’s 2nd highest goal scorer behind Yekini (Top 10)
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen on Friday evening overtook the legendary Segun Odegbami in the list of Nigeria’s all-time top scorers.
This follows his goal in the 11th minute of the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Kigali.
Osimhen came into the match level with Odegbami on 23 goals.
But the Napoli loanee put the ball in the next following a free-kick cross from Ademola Lookman early in the game.
Osimhen now has 25 goals, two ahead of Odegbami.
The 26-year-old is now only behind Rashidi Yekini, who has 37 goals for the Super Eagles.
Nigeria’s all-time scorers [Top 10]
Rashidi Yekini – 37 Goals
Victor Osimhen – 25 Goals
Segun Odegbami – 23 Goals
Yakubu Aiyegbeni – 21 Goals
Ikechukwu Uche – 19 Goals

Ahmed Musa – 16 Goals https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/21/osimhen-overtakes-odegbami-now-nigerias-2nd-highest-goal-scorer-behind-yekini-top-10/ Impressive. It would take sometime before the legendary "Goals father" Rashidi Yekini's 37 goals are equalled though. |

adenigga: Heathrow Airport will be closed for all of Friday over a "significant" power outage linked to a fire at a nearby electrical substation that supplies it.
The airport, which is the UK's busiest, has warned of "significant disruption" over the coming days and told passengers not to travel "under any circumstances" until it reopens.
"To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, we have no choice but to close Heathrow until 23:59 on 21 March 2025," a spokesperson said.
"We know this will be disappointing for passengers and we want to reassure that we are working as hard as possible to resolve the situation," they added.
"Whilst fire crews are responding to the incident, we do not have clarity on when power may be reliably restored," the Heathrow spokesperson said.
The airport has apologised for the disruption and has advised passengers to contact their airlines for further information.
Heathrow is the UK's largest aviation hub, handling around 1,300 landings and take-offs each day. A record 83.9 million passengers passed through its terminals last year, according to its latest data.
At least 1,351 flights to and from Heathrow will be affected by Friday's closure, flight tracking website Flightradar24 said on X, with some 120 affected aircraft already in the air in the early hours of the morning.
The fire at the substation in Hayes, in west London, has left thousands of homes without power and caused around 150 people to be evacuated from surrounding properties.
Emergency services were first called to the scene at 23:23 on Thursday, and video shared on social media showed tall flames and smoke billowing from the substation overnight.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Half of a transformer within the substation was still alight at 04:08, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been sent to tackle the blaze, the LFB said.
A 200-metre cordon has been put in place as a precaution, and local residents have been advised to keep doors and windows closed because of a "significant amount of smoke".
More than 16,300 homes have lost power in a large-scale outage cause by the fire, energy supplier Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said on X.
"We're aware of a widespread power cut affecting many of our customers around the Hayes, Hounslow and surrounding areas," it added.
The LFB said it had received nearly 200 calls about the fire.
"This is a highly visible and significant incident, and our firefighters are working tirelessly in challenging conditions to bring the fire under control as swiftly as possible," said LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulborne.
"This will be a prolonged incident, with crews remaining on scene throughout the night," he added.
"As we head into the morning, disruption is expected to increase, and we urge people to avoid the area wherever possible."

chopnaira: The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ekwe Ibas (Rtd) says his mandate is to restore law and order, stabilise the polity and create the necessary conditions for the full restoration of democratic institutions and representation.
He assures that he is not coming as a partisan actor nor as a competitor in the struggles that have brought the state to the point it has found itself.
In his maiden statewide broadcast to the people on Thursday, the Administrator says he is coming as a servant of the state who has been entrusted with the solemn duty of restoring peace and order so that Rivers State can move forward once again and reclaim its rightful place as the oil and gas capital of Nigeria.
A few hours after assuming office, Vice Admiral Ibas (Rtd) while addressing the people of the state called for unity and cooperation, saying that the challenges before the state depend on unity and not divisions.
While promising to abide by the rule of law and respect the rights of the people, the Rivers State Administrator warns that he would not tolerate any act of lawlessness.
Vice Admiral Ibas (Rtd) also addressed his plans for Rivers State in the next six months of the emergency rule. https://ait.live/ill-not-tolerate-any-act-of-lawlessness-rivers-administrator-warns/ |

Goodvibes007: The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in collaboration with producers of the Big Bull rice, has carried out a series of raids on shops in Woji, Mile 3, and Mile 1 markets in Port Harcourt, uncovering large-scale sales of counterfeit Big Bull Rice.
In a statement released on Thursday, the agency disclosed that a shop located along the YKC axis of Woji was identified as a key distribution point for the fake rice.
Inside, officials discovered large quantities of empty counterfeit Big Bull Rice bags along with other rice brands such as Cap Rice, Stallion Rice, Tomato Rice, and Mama Pride.
Meanwhile, a salesgirl, identified as Ogechi Okafor, was apprehended at the scene.
Other items recovered from the shop included sewing and sealing machines, a generator, a stove, thread, and several bags of already rebagged rice.
Pharm. Emmanuel Onogwu, NAFDAC’s Rivers State Coordinator, highlighted key features that distinguish the original Big Bull Rice.
According to Onogwu, from counterfeit versions, including a distinct shiny ribbon across the threaded top, superior bag quality, and an authentic logo.
He warned that the rebagged rice often comes from questionable sources and may be treated with harmful chemicals to enhance its appearance.
"In total, over 120 fake bags of rice were seized from more than ten shops and transported to the NAFDAC Zonal Office for further investigation," Onogwu added.

Politics › Re: I Endured Akpabio’s Sexual Advances For Over One Year – Natasha by Konquest: 5:29am On Mar 21, 2025*. Modified: 5:57am On Mar 21, 2025 |
ijustdey: By Adebayo Folorunsho-Francis
The suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has taken her frustration to the popular British television station, Sky News, where she narrated that she spent over a year enduring the alleged sexual advances of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The senator reiterated during the interview with the British Television network on Wednesday that her suspension was a direct consequence of her outcry against Akpabio’s alleged sexual harassment and not the gross misconduct the Senate reported.
According to her, the Senate president continually told her that she must “please him” if she wanted to enjoy her privileges and perks of office as a Senator.
She said, “I made an allegation of sexual harassment against the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on March 5, 2025, and the very next day, I was suspended for six months. I believe my suspension is illegal, unjust, and just a way of silencing me.
“I experienced sexual harassment over the past year in the hands of the Senate President, and this sexual harassment, because I refused to yield to his demands, turned into malice whereby my rights and privileges as a senator were deprived.
“I found the courage to speak up; yes, the breaking point was moving me from that seat; I have had to endure a whole lot in silence.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months by the House for breaking the Senate rules after she objected to her new sitting arrangement.
Her appearance as a guest on Sky News comes barely one week after she escalated her dispute with Akpabio, presenting her case at a United Nations forum, the International Parliamentary Union, where she alleged political victimisation.
She was suspended on March 6 after a heated confrontation with the Senate leadership over a new seating arrangement, which she claimed was designed to undermine her.
Tensions intensified when the Kogi politician accused Akpabio on Arise TV of punishing her for rejecting his alleged sexual advances.
Speaking at the Women in Parliament session during the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting at the United Nations in New York, Akpoti-Uduaghan called for international intervention to hold the Nigerian Senate accountable.
She further decried stringent conditions imposed on her, including withdrawal of security, salary cuts, and a ban from the National Assembly for six months.
When reminded that the Senate attributed her sanction to gross misconduct, the lawmaker refuted it, saying it was a calculated attempt to silence her.
“Yes, they did mention that I was suspended on grounds of gross misconduct, but can they please provide what the gross misconduct is that amounts to a six-month suspension the day after I submitted a petition? I was suspended because of that petition, not because of any gross misconduct.
“Let’s talk about the gross misconduct that had happened in the Nigerian chambers. I was only told to move, and I refused to move my seat because I deserved to be notified; I deserved to be given a chance to explain why I should retain my seat,” she noted.
To further back up her claim, the Kogi legislator recalled that she has witnessed some male colleagues fighting, screaming, and insulting one another with no sanction meted out.
Akpoti-Uduaghan argued that using her as a scapegoat only reflects the hypocrisy and double standards in the Senate.
She said, “I have seen in that chamber where men fight, where Senators throw items at each other, curse each other, shout at each other, but they were not suspended. Why? Because they were men. Things got difficult for me; I was always complaining.
“My husband would actually walk up to him because they are friends, saying, ‘My wife has a very important bill, her constituency needs this, why don’t you give her a chance to speak? And he would tell me, ‘Next time. So he deliberately kept on denying me this.
“Each time I walked to him he’d tell me, ‘Right here I am the chief presiding officer of the National Assembly, so you have to please me, make me happy to get these privileges.’ And that happened several times because I refused. It developed into malice. Which other way was I supposed to make my voice heard?”

The source of this misinformation was a Twitter account named "IntelPoint," which has around 3,000 followers. The infographics shared by this account cited the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) as their source.
However, this is misleading. According to the official NUPRC website, the latest annual report for 2023, which was released in 2024, clearly shows that Anambra is actually the 8th largest oil-producing state by output. In 2023, Anambra produced 3.9 million barrels of oil, placing it in the 8th position.
Here is the accurate ranking of oil-producing states in Nigeria based on the 2023 NUPRC report, listed in descending order of output:

NACOC operatives searched Chima’s hideout and uncovered substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. Field tests confirmed the presence of cocaine and heroin.
The arrest was announced in a statement signed by Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director, Public Affairs and International Relations, Ministry of the Interior, Ghana.
“The suspected narcotic substances, with a total weight of about 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin, are estimated at a street value of Two Million, One Hundred and Twenty-one Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty United States Dollars (US$2.1 Million or N3.2 billion),” NACOC stated.
“The suspect, Uchechukwu Chima, who has been a target for NACOC for some time now, is noted to be the brain behind some seizures/arrests made by NACOC in the past.”
NACOC said by the seizure and arrest, it has taken “this substantial quantity of drugs from the street, saving millions of lives of people who would have otherwise perished from abusing these hard drugs”.

She hailed from Jericho-Ugboju in the present Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Mammy Ochefu’s legacy dates back to 1955 when, as a young bride to then-Non-Commissioned military officer Anthony Aboki Ochefu, she sought to support her household by selling soft drinks and a traditional beverage known as kunu at the Army Barracks in Abakpa, Enugu.
Her business quickly gained popularity among soldiers, but complaints about hygiene led to restrictions on her operations.
Recognizing her entrepreneurial spirit, a senior officer allocated a designated space behind the barracks where she could continue her trade. What started as a single beverage stand soon expanded, as other women in the barracks joined in selling various goods, forming what became known as the "Mammy Market."
As Colonel Ochefu was posted to different states, Mammy continued setting up similar markets, ensuring that each one remained operational even after their departure. Over time, Mammy Markets became a permanent feature in military barracks across Nigeria, serving as vital hubs for soldiers and their families.
Ochefu was shot dead at a Petrol Station in Otukpo, Benue State on 25 November 1999.
After the passing of her husband, Mammy Ochefu returned to her hometown in Otukpo, where she spent the rest of her life.
She is now reunited with her husband.
Rest in peace, Mama Mammy Ochefu. https://idomavoice.com/breaking-founder-of-mammy-market-in-military-barracks-mammy-ochefu-is-dead/ |

madridguy: So Tinubu should fold his arms allowing the governor and assembly members turning a whole state into a banana republic? Then later blame the same president of not been proactive?
A sitting governor saying he will tell his boys when to enter? They are blowing the pipelines already. The level of indiscipline Baba Buhari tolerated so people won't call him dictator won't repeat itself.
Obaseki committed alot of atrocities because Baba Buhari looked away, denied members of assemblies their constitutional rights to serve their people and he got away with it.
Now the Presidency have checked Gov. Fubara and also clip the wings of Gov. Adeleke, I think any governors trying to turn lord over state assemblies or local government chairmen will have a rethink. |
Crime › Re: China Has Executed 4 Canadians This Year For Drug Related Crimes by Konquest: 2:52am On Mar 21, 2025 |
WriterNig: Four 🍁 Canadians were executed in China on drug-related charges earlier this year, Canadian authorities have confirmed.
All of them were dual citizens and their identities have been withheld, Canada's foreign minister Mélanie Joly said.
A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Canada reportedly urged Ottawa to "stop making irresponsible remarks", as pundits feared a further downturn in relations between the countries after years of strain.
The Chinese embassy insisted there was "solid and sufficient" evidence for their crimes, adding that Beijing had "fully guaranteed the rights and interests of the Canadian nationals concerned" and urged Canada to respect "China's judicial sovereignty".
China does not recognise dual citizenship and takes a tough stance on drug crimes.
Joly said she had been following the cases "very closely" for months and had tried with other officials, including former prime minister Justin Trudeau, to stop the executions.
In a statement to Canadian media, Global Affairs Canada spokesperson Charlotte MacLeod said Canada had "repeatedly called for clemency for these individuals at the senior-most levels and remains steadfast in its opposition to the use of the death penalty in all cases, everywhere".
China imposes the death penalty on serious crimes including those related to drugs, corruption and espionage. While the number of executions are kept secret, human rights groups believe China has one of the highest execution rates in the world.
However, it's rare for the death penalty to be carried out on foreigners.
The executions revealed this week have sparked criticisms from campaigners.
"These shocking and inhumane executions of Canadian citizens by Chinese authorities should be a wake-up call for Canada," said Ketty Nivyabandi from Amnesty International Canada.
"We are devastated for the families of the victims, and we hold them in our hearts as they try to process the unimaginable."
"Our thoughts also go to the loved ones of Canadian citizens whom China is holding on death row or whose whereabouts in the Chinese prison system are unknown."
In 2019, Canadian national Robert Lloyd Schellenberg was sentenced to death in China for drug smuggling - in a high-profile case that drew condemnation from Canadian government. He was not among the Canadians that were executed.
"We'll continue to not only strongly condemn but also ask for leniency for other Canadians that are facing similar situations," Joly said on Wednesday. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Trump Plans To Revoke Legal Status Of Ukrainians Who Fled To US, Sources Say by Konquest: 2:47am On Mar 21, 2025 |
AImiron: WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is planning to revoke temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, a senior Trump official and three sources familiar with the matter said, potentially putting them on a fast-track to deportation.
The move, expected as soon as April, would be a stunning reversal of the welcome Ukrainians received under President Joe Biden's administration.
The planned rollback of protections for Ukrainians was underway before Trump publicly feuded with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last week. It is part of a broader Trump administration effort to strip legal status from more than 1.8 million migrants allowed to enter the U.S. under temporary humanitarian parole programs launched under the Biden administration, the sources said.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said the department had no announcements at this time. The White House and Ukrainian embassy did not respond to requests for comment
A Trump executive order issued on January 20 called for DHS to "terminate all categorical parole programs."The administration plans to revoke parole for about 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans as soon as this month, the Trump official and one of the sources familiar with the matter said, requesting anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The plan to revoke parole for those nationalities was first reported, opens new tab by CBS News.
Migrants stripped of their parole status could face fast-track deportation proceedings, according to an internal ICE email seen by Reuters.
Immigrants who cross the border illegally can be put into the fast-track deportation process known as expedited removal, for two years after they enter. But for those who entered through legal ports of entry without being officially "admitted" to the U.S. - as with those on parole - there is no time limit on their rapid removal, the email said.
The Biden programs were part of a broader effort to create temporary legal pathways to deter illegal immigration and provide humanitarian relief. In addition to the 240,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, and the 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, these programs covered more than 70,000 Afghans escaping the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
An additional 1 million migrants scheduled a time to cross at a legal border crossing via an app known as CBP One.

Politics › Re: Appoint Export Adviser, Ex-finance Minister Adeosun Urges Tinubu by Konquest: 2:29am On Mar 21, 2025 |
Morbeta11: Appoint export adviser, ex-finance minister Adeosun urges Tinubu
Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint a National Export Adviser to drive reforms and boost Nigeria’s export sector.
Adeosun made the call during her keynote address at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank’s International Women’s Day Conference Day 2025, themed “For All Women: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, held in Abuja on Tuesday.
She noted that Nigeria’s export-to-GDP ratio stood at 9.2 per cent, compared to other African countries, adding that Nigeria did not need to reduce its imports into the country, but rather increase its exports.
She said, “I go so far as to call the President, to name a National Export Adviser. We need a figurehead that will drive reforms and break down all barriers to exports so that our world-class goods can get to the global market.
“There’s been a lot of narrative around Nigeria. The narrative used to be Nigeria imports too much, but that is not true. The statistics do not support that at all. The statistics do say that Nigeria exports too little. So, if you look at Nigeria’s export-to-GDP ratio, it is 9.2%. That was the last statistic, that was before the rebasement.
“So, when the rebasement seeds are in, that signal will go down. Nigeria’s export-to-GDP, please remember these numbers, 9.2%, Ghana 34%, South Africa 32.8%, Senegal 23%. So, what we are saying is, not so much efforts on reducing our imports, we need to focus on increasing our exports.”
Adeosun also noted that while it took weeks to register as an exporter in Nigeria, it took only 48 hours to register in South Africa, adding that Nigeria must be intentional about export opportunities.
“By our last recording, there are about four steps to register as an exporter in Nigeria. Takes an average of two to three weeks, in South Africa, it takes 48 hours. So, if it takes long for me to go through various clearances, the chances are I will give up. So, we need to be intentional about the opportunity. And the opportunity for the ladies is in exports.
“It is not in imports, it’s in exports. Your products are world-class. Your products can compete anywhere in the world. And if you look at the trajectory, Nollywood is now growing, our music is growing. What should follow, our fashion, our arts, our crafts, our snacks, our foods, that’s the next wave,” she stated.
In his address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NEXIM Bank, Abubakar Bello, said the occasion was to display the Bank’s commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and emphasising women’s achievements, challenges, and to foster dialogue, share insights and promote actional strategies for women empowerment.
He noted that the bank had developed several products targeting women, including the Women and Youth Export Fund, the Small and Medium Enterprises Export Fund and the Women in Oil and Gas Managed Funds, while also announcing the launch of The Women In Export Development Fund.
He added, “Women and girls are at the heart of national development. When we empower women, we empower families, communities, and entire economies. Nigeria, with its vast human and material resources, can only achieve sustainable development when women are included in all aspects of economic growth, particularly in financial empowerment and entrepreneurship.”
“As we mark this occasion, we commit to further deepen our interventions to increase the participation of women in the non-oil export sector. It is in this regard that we present another flagship product: ‘The Women In Export Development Fund’.” https://punchng.com/appoint-export-adviser-ex-finance-minister-adeosun-urges-tinubu/#google_vignette |
