ryloy:
The Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an affiliate of Al Qaeda, says 200 soldiers were killed during an attack on a Burkina Faso military base.

The base in the northern town of Djibo came under attack on Sunday morning, with hundreds of fighters overrunning and destroying it, security sources told Reuters at the time.

A police station and market were also targeted, they said.

On Tuesday, the SITE Intelligence Group, a United States based non-governmental organisation which tracks online activities of Islamist militants, said JNIM had taken credit for the assault.

At the time, the Burkinabe death toll was pegged at 60.

On Thursday, SITE said the terrorist group increased the death toll to 200, Reuters reported.

There has been no official government confirmation of the attack or the death toll.

SITE previously said Ousmane Dicko, head of JNIM in Burkina Faso, had appeared in a video urging residents of Djibo to leave the town for their own safety.

In recent times, militants have ramped up attacks in Sahelian countries as the government continues to grapple with a renewed insurgency.

Last week, JNIM claimed multiple attacks in Burkina Faso as Ibrahim Traore, junta leader, visited Russia where he met with President Vladimir Putin.

On April 24, the Benin Republic government said JNIM killed 54 soldiers.

In Borno, north-eastern Nigeria, Boko Haram fighters reportedly killed at least five soldiers during attacks on military bases.

Many of the posters on this NL thread are highly ignorant, misinformed and do NOT know what is really going on around them or in West African Sahelian region in this fight against the jihadi groups (especially the deadly JNIM) based in Mali where they have the headquarters and Burkina Faso.

How can these young people right from page 1 be typing misinformation by saying that the attack is being sponsored by the Western countries to remove that young military guy called Traore (when those of us who are vast in global geopolitics and advanced security issues know that more than half of Mali and Burkina Faso are under the control of JNIM Islamist gangs with links to Al-Qaeda for years now) and things got WORSE when the innefectual Russian military advisers got involved after Mali, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso naively kicked out the French and the Americans which is a total blunder!

The largely nonsensical write up ABOVE is absolutely devoid of critical thinking while laced with irresponsible misinformation.

FIRST off, the head of JAMB's ICT department is an Ibo person. That's were the technical glitches (that affected majority of the students in Lagos State which even has more affected candidates by population than the South East of Nigeria candidates) took place.

On the other hand, when that liar and 18-year-old school girl from Anambra State called Mmesoma Ejikeme FORGED her JAMB result in 2024 in order to dubiously apply for a scholarship from Innoson and when JAMB found out she lied about her result, many overtly emotional Ibos came to her defense online, on radio station and TV phone-in programs and irresponsibly cursed and WRONGLY accused Prof. Oloyede of bias because he is a Muslim and a Yoruba by ethnic descent, BUT the Mmesoma girl herself finally caved in on showing her the legitimate digital trail from her mobile phone number which she used to receive her ORIGINAL lower JAMB results and the mobile phone service provider. She had to shamefully apologize on live recorded video to JAMB, Nigerians and the Anambra State government while conceding that she indeed FORGED that JAMB result of 2024 which she originally presented for the scholarship application.

The official average percentage JAMB failure rate has been consistent for years now even before Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who was a renowned and diligent former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin before becoming the JAMB boss. The teaching methodology and unseriousness of some students are largely responsible for their failures to score high marks ABOVE 200!

These tribal bigots have to be tackled head-on to STOP spreading disinformation and guilt-tripping others.

It's good Prof. Oloyede as the boss took responsibility for what happened and JAMB must ensure that the kind of technical glitches of May 2025 do NOT ever occur again. There's absolutely NO need to remove Prof Oloyede who over the years has brought a lot of innovations to the JAMB exam process to remove all the inneficiences of the past. Period.

Professor Is-haq Oloyede is too honest for a system that often punishes integrity.

In a country where dodging responsibility is common, he stood tall—owning up to technical glitches that weren’t even directly his fault.

That’s real leadership.

But of course, this is Nigeria—where sincerity is mocked and failure is excused. So, the backlash, insults, and calls for resignation? Sadly, not surprising.

Let’s be clear: some of the loudest critics are those who thrived under a corrupt system. Ever since Oloyede shut down exam malpractice and blocked expo cartels, they’ve been itching for revenge. This isn’t just outrage—it’s retaliation.

Don’t let the noise fool you.

He brought sanity to a sector that was once a mess. One setback can’t erase years of reform.

Ask yourself: how many leaders take responsibility when things go wrong—even when it’s not their fault?

That’s the kind of honesty we should be celebrating.

God1000:
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday met with security chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss national security issues.

The President presided over the security meeting ahead of his departure for Rome on Saturday for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi. Also in attendance were the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; Chief of Defence Intelligence,
Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye; and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sadiq Idris Abubakar.
It's a relatively complex issue on the surface BUT then it can be solved based off of my deep insights. As a solution-based man who dislikes it when people complain needlessly over very simple solutions that are right in front of us if we tap right into our creative intelligence.

FIRST off, the porous borders have existed right before the French and British colonialism and after British colonialism colonialism of Nigeria till today. The ONLY solution is to spend a couple of billions of USD for Nigeria to build high walls (just like the United States had planned to do along the United States/Mexico border) with electrified fences separating Nigeria from Niger Republic, Chads, Cameroon, and Benin Republic so that the citizen of those countries and other Sahelian countries such a as Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and the highly IRRESPONSIBLE Fulani herders and bandits do not enter Nigeria illegally. Prisoners correctional centers close to the border areas can be used as labor sources to build those walls which are bullet-proof and made from the cheaper adobe bricks (or stabilized laterite bricks) from laterite which is abundant in the Nigerian geological space. Conversely, other stronger materials can ALSO be considered to build the border walls.

Second, Nigeria has to purchase more attack and surveillance drones from the existing Nigerian manufacturer who displayed attack drones early last month, then buy more from China, Turkey, and use advanced satellite-based tracking systems to accurately pinpoint locations, car number plates from outer space and ruthlessly take down these terror groups such as the Al-Qaeda-affiliated JNIM, BH, bandits and more while linking up with especially the United States of America to share military intelligence and use United States' military platforms in joint collaborations to strike for the benefit of both countries. As I type this, the United States still bombed Al-Shabab terror position after Donald Trump became the President in early 2025 and the United States military forces are still battling terror groups despite bombing jihadi groups over the many years gone by and taking out Osama bin Laden in his hide out in Pakistan alongside others because new groups are simply rising up to replace the old ones that have been eliminated by using social media to recruit new members, involvement in illegal mining, crimes and drug trafficking, and donations from unsuspecting people in the religious world to fund their activities.

Third, the use of advanced biological weapons and new methods of advanced mind programing can help to eliminate these terror groups and make them very docile. We can't be dealing with the military-industrial complex all the time and spending billions of USD to buy very expensive weapons when these billions of USD can be channeled into positive developmental purposes.

Fourth, the judiciary must take more rapid actions in dispensing criminal justice through the effective computerization of courts and evidence-based practices in handing over quick justice (and capital punishments) to all those found guilty of crimes.

Fifth, to curb the foreign Fula herdsmen and Fula bandits invasions of several Nigerian communities, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has to be eased off because he is a Fulani from Adamawa and may NOT want to give the full details about what his kinsmen are doing by taking over the lands of indigenous Nigerians. Nuhu Ribadu can be moved elsewhere EXCEPT if Nuhu Ribadu has actually told the President the full situation about what his foreign kinsmen are doing. Most of the Northern Nigeria States Governors are from the minority Fulanis who are Governing the majority indigenous Hausa States and the Hausas are already angry and tired of these ethnic marginalizations and speaking out (both males and females) in online videos about the foreign Fula bandits attacking their farmlands and communities so as to end the Fula political hegemony over them in their own land. El-Rufai has a direct male ancestor who he said (on a live Channels Television program years ago) is from Guinea Conakry origin who only arrived in Nigeria after the Jihad of the 1800s. The Baba Ahmeds are from the Fulanis of Mauritania, Atiku Abubakar is from the Fulanis of Cameroon all of them with Berber (or North African direct male ancestors from the paternal Morocco area through Senegal/Mauritania Fulani evolution) and this can be gleaned from the DNA tests as well showing that Fulanis are paternally of Berber North African lineage in Morocco.

PoliticsRe: Investors From Brazil, Belarus, Saudi Entering Nigeria’s Agric Space – Badaru by Konquest: 8:19am On May 18, 2025
TimeManager:
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has stated that the global economic community and multilateral financial institutions are placing increased confidence in Nigeria’s economy due to the bold reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Bagudu made the remarks in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.

According to the Minister, the economic decisions taken by the administration are already yielding dividends, attracting investor interest, and strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal position.

“We have seen investors from Brazil, Belarus, and Saudi Arabia increasingly entering our agricultural space. The world economic community and multilateral institutions are putting more faith in our economy.

“Investors want to see good policy—can I get paid back? Are the numbers credible? Is the environment transparent? That’s why they appreciate when they see quarterly GDP growth,”

“For the first time in 25 years, Nigeria is refining oil. Mr President was courageous enough to allow crude sale in naira to our refiners. This is a testament to his belief in our economy.”,
Bagudu said.

Fuel subsidy removal, FX unification driving investor confidence

Bagudu described the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market as transformative decisions that are restoring fiscal discipline and transparency.

“We were losing 5% of our GDP on fuel subsidy—money going to just a few, Mr President took the courageous step to end it.”, he stated.

He further noted that the FX reforms have significantly reduced arbitrage and encouraged market fairness.

“The foreign exchange reform removed uncertainty and favouritism. We now have a fair market—willing buyer, willing seller—which has generated revenue growth and boosted private sector confidence,” he added.

Budgets focused on responsibility and investment

Bagudu also highlighted the 2024 and 2025 budgets as key instruments balancing fiscal prudence and strategic investments.

“We have increased spending in health, education, infrastructure, security, and technology. The 2024 budget achieved significant deficit reduction, and more importantly, it showed that we are serious—and the markets believed us,” he noted.

The Minister credited this growing market confidence to the administration’s consistency, policy discipline, and a shift towards data-driven planning.

Speaking on public finance management, Bagudu pointed to President Tinubu’s insistence on constitutional and institutional respect, especially regarding inherited liabilities from the previous administration.

“Mr President inherited N22.7 trillion in Ways and Means financing, but he insisted on respecting the Central Bank’s independence. That discipline is earning us credibility globally,” Bagudu explained.

He emphasized that such decisions, though politically difficult, are necessary to signal seriousness to the international community and domestic investors alike.

Acknowledging the hardship many Nigerians currently face, Bagudu compared the reform process to a physical fitness journey.

@Kushme

You've spoken VERY impressively here as you are also an eyewitness of events right in the North East of Nigeria. Indeed these criminal jihadi elements are using drones now which definitely could have come from Iran via Yemen's Houthi rebels who got some attack drones from Iran. The theatre of war has indeed changed and Chad and Niger Republic territories are NO doubt providing a safe haven from these groups using drones to attack Nigerian locations in the North East.

So, Nigeria has to use more superior weapons to counter these jihadi groups (who want to impose their evil wills on others) by getting more advanced attack drones and surveillance drones and use advanced satellite-based tracking technologies to pinpoint the exact locations of these jihadi gangs. We will NOT let them win and collaborations with the United States to use their platforms and sharing military intelligence will help. There's no need for Nigeria to be ashamed of doing that as other countries are doing the same thing to eradicate crime on a global scale.

Also, the use of coded biological weapons and mind programing tactics to make these terror gangs backed or affiliated to Al-Qaeda docile can be used on them to minimize heavy spending on weapons. This MUST be a top secret initiative.

Stay safe where you are in Yobe and get out when you have the chance to the safer areas of Kano or Adamawa States if you notice the situation is degenerating further. Capital cities are usually safer and well-guarded though). But I trust that with the further meetings that the Nigerian President had 2 days ago with the NSA (Nuhu Ribadu), senior military officers and service chiefs, they will implement creative non-kinetic strategies to deal with especially those jihadi elements using drones to attack locations in Yobe and Borno.

We dey laugh. Go and ask about life from Adeyinka Grandson. The UK court did not deem him as speaking for anyone. They simply looted at the evidence and conclude he was guilty of hate speech as charged.

That is what unemotional Courts in the West, only compelled to look at evidence, do daily and consistently.

If they found Grandson guilty quickly of hate speech alone then I don't know the miracle you expect for Ekpa who did far worse and is guilty of inciting terrorism, violence and anarchy plus the leader of the dreaded "Autopilot" terrorist killer militia executing people summarioy across the SE.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Inducts 2 Helicopter Into NAF Order Of Battle (pics) by Konquest: 4:22pm On May 17, 2025
dre11:
President Bola Tinubu on Friday inducted two new Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters into the inventory of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The President, who was represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, praised the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force in advancing national security objectives and assured of continued federal support for defence modernisation.

A statement by the NAF Spokesman, Air Cdre Ehimen Ejodame said the ceremony which held at the Presidential Air Fleet Apron in Abuja, marked a key highlight of activities commemorating the 61st anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force.

Tinubu, highlighting the NAF’s engagements in countries such as The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Mali, described the Air Force as a “cynosure of operational excellence” and a source of pride for Nigeria.

Speaking on the importance of the newly acquired aircraft, Tinubu stated that the “ceremony marks another milestone in our unwavering commitment to strengthen our Armed Forces, particularly the Air Force, towards a more secured country.

“This acquisition, made alongside platforms such as the Diamond-62 surveillance aircraft, the T-129 ATAK helicopters, and the King Air 360i aircraft, underscores our resolve to prioritise fleet modernisation and the welfare of our men and women in uniform.”

He reiterated that security remains a top priority of his administration and assured the military of continued support in line with the eight priority areas of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President further emphasised that, “Neither economic prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity,” therefore, urging the Nigerian Armed Forces to “intensify efforts to conclusively defeat the enemies of our collective progress and safeguard the future of our nation.”

Emphasising the link between security, democracy, and national development, Tinubu said a well-equipped military was essential not only for securing the nation but also for preserving its democracy.

“My administration will remain steadfast in modernising the Armed Forces and investing in cutting-edge defence technologies to confront both conventional and asymmetric threats,” he assured.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the helicopter induction, Tinubu noted that “it is a strategic statement of intent, a demonstration of our collective resolve to defend our nation and reinforce Nigeria’s leadership in Africa.”

In his welcome address, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar described the induction as a major milestone in the Service’s drive to modernise its fleet and enhance operational effectiveness across all theatres.

He underscored the aircraft’s role in supporting joint operations, air reconnaissance, close air support, and humanitarian missions.

“The dynamic security landscape of our nation demands an agile, well-equipped, and responsive Air Force,” the CAS said.

“The induction of the Agusta 109 Trekker, a versatile, light twin-engine multi-role helicopter is a significant leap in our modernisation efforts. It will strengthen our multi-domain operational capability, increase responsiveness, and enable efficient mission delivery,” the CAS said.

He extolled President Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Ministers of Defence, Defence and Service Chiefs, as well as Nigeria’s international partners for their unwavering support.

The CAS also acknowledged the contributions of former Air Chiefs and praised their enduring legacies.

The newly inducted A-109 Trekker helicopters were expected to provide critical support for both military and civil operations, from battlefield deployment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

The ceremony concluded with a symbolic fly-past and inspection of the new aircraft by the President, flanked by top defence and government officials.

It's NOT a proxy attack funded by the West at all. It's an open secret to those of us who have deep insights on geopolitical dynamics and advanced security issues that more than half of Burkina Faso and more than half of Mali including parts of Niger Republic are under the control of JNIM since the French left and the Russians came in and floundered badly under these young military coup plotters.

Even JNIM (the Al-Qaeda-affiliated jihadi group) has been carrying out attacks, illegal mining, and kidnappings in Northern Benin Republic and Northern Cote D'Ivoire for over 4 years now and it's very CLEAR that Western military intelligence and support will be needed more than ever before instead of the irresponsible pride that those inexperienced military boys are displaying in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic by expelling French and American troops and military advisers and replacing them with the highly inneficient Russians military advisers because things have gotten WORSE.

There's too much hype around this young Burkina Faso military guy called Traore. He CANNOT handle these Jihadists alone. He and those other countries of Mali, and Niger Republic should be humble enough, link up militarily with Nigeria, the rest of ECOWAS and the United States because Mali, Burkina Faso, and Mali are posing a VERY BIG risk to Nigeria's security [due to the infiltrations of these foreign Mali, Niger Republic and Burkinabe jihadi groups into Nigeria and Benin Republic and other ECOWAS countries] with their poor handling of the Al-Qaeda affiliate called the JNIM terror group which has it's headquarters right in Mali and has over half of Traore's Burkina Faso and Mali and Niger Republic under their control. Yet, I keep seeing highly uninformed young people praising Traore and those other military guys in Niger Republic and Mali who miscalculated in the war against the JNIM and in expelling France and the U.S.

JNIM Islamists group is already using Northern Ghana as a logistics base to secretly buy medication, petrol, food, engage in mining for precious minerals (like they have done in Northern Cote D'Ivoire) and much more. They ALSO CLEARLY have NOT hidden the FACT that they want to start attacks on Ghana and take over Ghana which is still relatively untouched to jihadi attacks.

I hope you have a better understanding of the situation in the West African Sahel region now.

Finnish prosecutors on Friday said they had charged a man with inciting terrorism online who a media report identified as Nigerian separatist leader Simon Ekpa.
Finland’s National Prosecution Authority said in a statement that it had charged “a Finnish individual in a case involving suspected public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent and participation in the activities of a terrorist group.”

It added that the alleged crimes had been committed in the city of Lahti between 2021 and 2024 and were related to the suspect’s efforts to establish Nigeria’s Biafra region as an independent state.

The prosecution authority did not name the accused but Finnish public broadcaster YLE identified him as separatist leader Simon Ekpa.

Ekpa — who claims to lead the Biafra Republic’s government in exile — was detained in November.

According to the prosecution authority, the accused remained in custody and denied the charges.

Ekpa is known as a self-proclaimed leader of a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is pushing for the independence of Nigeria’s southeast, where a bloody civil war was fought in the late 1960s.

The dual Finnish-Nigerian national has also been a local representative for Finland’s conservative National Coalition Party in the city of Lahti, north of Helsinki, where he has served on a public transport committee.

When Ekpa was arrested, Finnish authorities also requested that four other people be remanded in custody on suspicion of financing Ekpa’s activities.

On Friday, the prosecution authority said the prosecutor had decided to drop charges against four others in the case due to a lack of evidence.

Ekpa has been the subject of several of AFP’s fact checks in recent years over false claims and disinformation he has made in independence campaigning.

I would like to visit there on a short holiday visit one of these days whenever I'm in Nigeria to know more about the community which has a mixed population of indigenous Yoruba and Ogu-speking settlers who come and migrate out. There are YouTube and Instagram videos I've seen on TONGEJI Island that I will be watching later in this weekend and in the new week when I'm less busy.

I read somewhere yesterday on an Instagram page belonging to Ogun State where it was stated that TONGEJI is just a name that really has "no definitive meaning" and it's very CLEAR from what I read that TONGEJI Island was NOT inhabited by ANYBODY (until the arrival of the Yoruba hunters from Ilesa in the Osun State centuries back who then settle at Owode Apa in the current Ogun State before settling on TONGEJI Island for hunting purposes and selling of game or hunted animals caught on TONGEJI Island to Badagry people. Then other migrants came to join them later from different places, hence the use of spoken Yoruba and Ogu on TONGEJI Island.

Enjoy your day (and weekend).

Ciao

all this but no certainty, whats togenji in yoruba my friend
That name seems to be a tongue twister for you. It's spelled TONGEJI NOT "Togenji."

The Website right BELOW provides some deep insights into the history of the people of TONGEJI Island.

History & people
Tongeji has an interesting history which has helped fuelled the many claims about it. The ancestors came from Ilesha in Osun state and settled in Owode-Apa as hunters. Then they heard of the fabulous Island of Tongeji with plenty of games, as adventurers they came and settled there, selling their catch to the people of Badagry. Soon the forest became a hamlet, the hamlet a village and the village a small town. But the enduring question in Tongeji is that of identity and geography played no small part in it. For many years there were speculations about the ownership and citizenship of the people of the island. There were talks of a possible takeover by the government of Benin Republic which eyed the island because of a reported discovery of crude oil. Tongeji is part of Ogun State, even though it is nearer to the Benin Republic than Nigeria. The people speak Egun and Yoruba. Their fathers married from the French speakers, and the Nigerians but the people are generally considered Nigerians. Of the original population, only a few hundred people remained.

Hope that partly helps.

Rice is cheaper now, it is around 54k- 60k at Bodija Market in Ibadan. Quality foreign rice are even cheaper than Nigeria rice this days.

BusinessRe: We Will Keep Crashing Rice Prices,’ BUA Chairman Rabiu Warns Hoarders by Konquest: 12:45pm On May 16, 2025
TimeManager:
The Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has pledged to further lower the prices of rice and other food items, which he said have already decreased over the past year.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for granting waiver on imported food items, saying that his “foresight” helped crash food prices in the country.

In July 2024, the Tinubu administration announced the suspension of customs duties on imported food items to stem food inflation.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after meeting with President Tinubu on Thursday, Rabiu said BUA Foods keyed into that policy and was able to import quite a lot of wheat, maize and rice.

“At the time food prices were really very high last year. For example, the price of rice was about N100,000 or thereabout per 50 kilo bag. The flour was about N80,000 per bag and maize was about N60,000 per 50 kilo bag, and pasta above N20,000 per Carton. So what we did was, we keyed into that policy and BUA was able to import quite a lot of wheat, maize and rice.

“And the moment the shipment started coming, we started processing, we crushed the prices of some of these commodities. And today I’m happy to inform you that the price of rice is about N60,000 from what it was last year at N110,000. Flour is today N55,000 Naira per 50 kilo bag.

“Maize is about N30,000. And this happened because of Mr President’s foresight and vision by introducing that one-off duty waiver for a period of six months, and with that, we’ve been able to bring down the prices of these commodities,” Rabiu said.

The billionaire businessman further explained the causes of the food price increases and how the President’s policy helped to curb the trend.

“So, what has been happening and a lot of people probably don’t know this, is that Nigerians, a lot of companies in Nigeria usually buy a lot of paddy. That is rice paddy. Rice Paddy is what you use to process rice.

So, the moment the harvest season starts, a lot of people will now buy a lot of these paddy and hold it for a period of three to four months. The moment the season finishes, then the price will double. So a lot of people don’t know that, but that has always been the problem.

“That does not really in any way affect the farmer, because the farmer is getting his four to N500,000 per ton of paddy.

But the people that are buying and holding for three to four months, once the season finishes, it goes back up to N800,000. Hence why you are getting N110,000 per bag.

“So, what that intervention did at the time when we brought in was to create an issue for those hoarders. Because the moment we imported, we were selling, and those orders had a lot of paddy, they could not sell, and the price now came down, and it is still down. So a lot of those holders are actually crying now and losing money.”

He said that the Rice Millers Association has come together to address the issue of hoarding by some companies, adding that the association will not allow any of its members to hoard rice.

“What we are doing as rice Millers is that we want to ensure that rice Millers are not buying and hoarding Paddy, although at the end of the day, it’s quite difficult to stop that. But what is happening is that once they know that there is rice availability imported, because BUA has imported enough rice to last us until the end of the year, for example.

“So, they know that if they try to hoard rice and try to take it up, Bucha is there and will crash the price. So I am hopeful that at the end of the day, the price of rice going forward is not going to go any higher than what it is today.

“And I’m sure as soon as the season starts, the farmers will get the price they’ve always gotten, and the price of rice is going to stay the same, because people will be wary of hoarding, because if they hoard it is going to be a problem for them, because they might lose money. So that is on rice.

“And again, let me use this opportunity to thank His Excellency, for his foresight, for his vision, because I actually didn’t see that. I didn’t know that that was going to work, but we keyed in.

We imported and we have supported, and now prices are down. So that is what we did, and we will continue to do to support the efforts of the government to ensure that food prices continue to come down. And I’m sure prices will come down.
