BusinessRe: The CBN Just Removed These 7 Banking Barriers For Nigerians Abroad by Konquest: 1:04pm On May 15, 2025
DeLaRue:
The most innovative and reformist CBN in the history of Nigeria.

"He put his people in many of the most important offices'. But it is mostly working out well for the country.

1. CBN - Mr Cardozo - the most battle-proven CBN Governor in history.

2. Ministry of Interior - see all the innovations with Passports, and also at the major airports.

3. FIRS - unprecedented revenues for Nigeria

4. Tax innovations - spear headed by FIRS guy & the Committee Chairman (can't remember his name)

And many more like that.

If sharing key government posts based on where people come from was so good, how come non of the previous quota system holders of the ministry of Interior, including Yoruba ones, could carry out the tangible reforms that the current Minister has achieved.

Why was FIRS transformed into a revenue generation monster in less than 2 years, despite several decades of being in the doldrums.

A President must be allowed to put the best people he can find in certain key positions irrespective of where they come from. Less significant positions can be distributed on the usual quota system.

The entire country benefit from this approach.
Succinctly stated... "Saved."

This CBN policy is long overdue for removing all the inneficiences in the remittance and financial system for us Diasporans with significant social and business ties in Nigeria.

Competency-based performance is key for unleashing the vast potentials in any country (among several variables in a multiethnic society such as Nigeria). These folks have done quie well within just two years of being in government as of May 2025 by removing those enervating annoying inneficiences typically associated with Nigeria years past and it's time to hit the ground running, use "disruptive strategies" with more innovative thinking.

Umarnuhu1990:
The Central Bank of Nigeria has finally dismantled the longstanding obstacles that have kept millions of Nigerians in diaspora disconnected from their homeland's financial system. With the launch of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN), yesterday in Abuja, the CBN has systematically eliminated barriers that once restrained Nigerians abroad from making seamless and cost-effective financial transactions to Nigeria. This transformative initiative is already eliciting much excitement from Nigerians living abroad as a dream come true. Now they can make transactions from anywhere in the world as if they’re right in Nigeria.

1. Mandatory physical presence for banking services

The Barrier: Previously, Nigerians abroad had to physically travel to Nigeria just to open accounts, update information, or complete basic banking tasks.

CBN's Solution: The NRBVN has eliminated this requirement entirely, allowing complete digital verification from anywhere in the world.

What This Means For You: No more expensive flights home just to handle banking matters. As CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso highlighted at the NRBVN launch, this removes "considerable costs in terms of time and financial resources, especially for individuals residing in remote locations." Your financial connection to Nigeria is now independent of your physical location.

2. Limited access to Nigerian financial institutions

The Barrier : Distance created an insurmountable wall between diaspora Nigerians and Nigerian banks, restricting their ability to fully participate in the financial system.

CBN's Solution : A comprehensive digital platform that connects Nigerians abroad directly to the entire banking ecosystem.

What This Means For You : You can now open and manage accounts, conduct transactions, and access the full range of services from your phone or computer. The new platform creates what Governor Cardoso calls a "single digital gateway" that enables "seamless access to banking services" for all Nigerians, regardless of where they live.

3. Restricted investment opportunities

The Barrier : Complex procedures and verification requirements effectively blocked diaspora participation in Nigeria's growing investment markets.

CBN's Solution : The NRBVN paired with the complementary Non-Resident Investment Account (NRNIA) opens access to the full spectrum of investment options.

What This Means For You : Direct participation in Nigerian stocks, government bonds, real estate, and pension products is now possible without logistical headaches. The CBN has ensured you'll have "the flexibility to fully repatriate the proceeds of your investments" when needed, removing another major concern for diaspora investors.

4. Expensive and insecure remittance channels

The Barrier : High fees (averaging 7%) and security concerns made sending money home both costly and risky.

CBN's Solution : Formalized, regulated channels with lower transaction costs and enhanced security measures.

What This Means For You : More of your hard-earned money reaches its intended recipients safely and efficiently. This barrier removal is set to boost remittances, one of many initiatives to enable the CBN meet its $1billion monthly target from $4.73 billion for the whole of 2024.

5. One-size-fits-all banking products

The Barrier : Nigerian banks rarely offered financial products designed for the unique needs of customers living abroad.

CBN's Solution : A formal directive for banks to develop specialized offerings for diaspora customers.

What This Means For You : Access to financial products that actually understand your cross-border lifestyle, including specialized savings accounts, diaspora mortgages, curated investment bundles, and seamless cross-border services. The CBN has explicitly called on banks to "proactively develop and offer products specifically tailored to meet the unique needs and preferences of our diaspora community."

6. Inconsistent regulatory framework

The Barrier : Unclear and often changing regulations created uncertainty and risk for diaspora financial engagement.

CBN's Solution : A clear, consistent framework built on successful models from countries like India and Pakistan.

What This Means For You : Confidence in a stable, tested system that has proven successful elsewhere. India's similar framework has attracted $160 billion in deposits, while Pakistan's Roshan Digital Account has pulled in nearly $10 billion. The CBN has adapted these successful models to Nigeria's specific context.

7. Disconnection from economic Nation-building

The Barrier : Distance often prevented diaspora Nigerians from contributing meaningfully to Nigeria's development.

CBN's Solution : Formal channels for investment in development projects and job creation initiatives.

What This Means For You : The ability to strengthen Nigeria's economy and support community development from afar. As Governor Cardoso emphasized, this initiative ensures "that every Nigerian, no matter their location, remains connected and empowered to contribute to Nigeria's vibrant future."

This landmark initiative represents what the CBN Governor calls "not the final destination, but the beginning of a broader journey." The CBN continues to refine the system based on diaspora feedback, progressively removing any remaining barriers to full financial inclusion, because your financial connection to Nigeria should be as strong as your cultural one.

I'm reading this for the first time ever.

This is absolutely brilliant for us Diasporans of Nigerian with significant business and social ties to the Motherland. The CBN's new financial inclusivity program is a product of critical thinking to remove several inneficiences and it's long overdue. Why non of the past CBN dudes thought of this beats my imagination. It's BETTER late than never.

Kudos to the current President of Nigeria and his team (they've ONLY spent two years as of May 2025 in government) who are gradually breaking down the annoying walls of inneficiences.

Next is to use innovative technologies such as attack and surveillance drone systems and advanced satellite tracking systems to tackle insecurities to deal with the foreign Fulani herders mass attacks and kidnappings of several farming communities and boost food production (under the ridiculous cover of the ECOWAS Treaty on Free Movement which has to STOP).

There are too many young unintelligent trolls and young people who lack a deep knowledge of history posting on this thread.
Even Seun Okinbloye of Channels Television who hails from Kwara State refers to himself as a Northerner which is a FACT of history based on geographical location.

There are indigenous Yoruba folks in Kwara State in 12 out of the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State. 2 LGAs belong to the Baribas and 2 LGAs belong to the Nupes of Kwara State. So Yorubas are the dominant ethnic group in Kwara State.

Third, in Kogi State where there are several indigenous Yorubas from Chief Sunday Awoniyi, Dino Melaye, Dare Art Alade the musician, Jaywon, Michael Dare [a former NBA a former NBA basketball star], Flying Offier Tolulope Arotire [the first female helicopter pilot in the Nigerian Airforce], Reverend Sam Adeyemi and more distinguished folks of Yoruba descent].

Incidentallly, Chief Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi from Moba in Kogi State [whose architect son Yomi Awoniyi was also a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State alongside Governor Wada] was the FIRST EVER Yoruba man to become the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum [ACF]. He passed away on November 8, 2007 [with injuries sustained after a car accident and he was flown outside Nigeria but didn't survive]. So it's highly irresponsible for any youngster to say that there are no indigenous Yoruba folks in the NORTH [precisely the Middle Belt of Nigeria even right into small parts of Niger State]. Period

I have so much vegetables in my backyard from my sack and buckets that women in the compound are now enjoying it more than me, but I am happy seeing them harvesting from my Ugu and spinach leaves and making soups for their families.
I mixed my soil with animal dung compost I bought from people growing flowers before planting and it produces lush green vegetables.

I bought one bunch of Ugu seed in Kogi state pictured below as I was passing through the state for N1,500 and it contained 98 seedlings, something they sell N200 per seedling in my area.

My wife used to complain that vegetables has become too costly in the market, so I decided to try this sack and buckets farming, now we have plenty of it and she complains that she no longer like the smell of Ugu and I have to beg her to put some vegetables in our food, its hard to please that gender angry

Agbegbaorogboye:
This is ridiculous
I thought this man was painted as the best thing after slice bread

What we're told is that he's a thoroughbred technocrat who will run NNPCL like a proper corporate outfit

But this one that he's now speaking Hausa, shouting insha Allah and even promising northerners oil drilling which is part of the Buhari waste, it seems he's main function is to be more northern than Attahiru than to make the NNPC a serious outfit

I fear we've been scammed once again with propaganda
Bayo Bashir Ojulari is an indigenous Yoruba Northern from Kwara State and he speaks fluent Hausa and like some indigenous Yorubas of Kogi and Kwara States attended the prestigious Northern institution, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State just like many Northern oil and gas technocrats such as the brilliant Ahmadu Musa Kida from Borno State who was ALSO recently appointed to the NNPCL management board. Even Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television who is from Kwara State identifies himself as a Northerner just like folks of other ethnic groups in the North which is indeed correct.

I must emphasize here that Chief Sunday Awoniyi from Moba in Kogi State spoke very fluent Hausa too and he was the FIRST EVER Nigerian of Yoruba descent to become the Chairman of the apex Northern socio-political organization Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) back in the 2000s but he passed on due to the injuries he sustained in a car crash while still the Chairman. His son Yomi Awoniyi was a Deputy Governor of Kogi State.

Nigeria is LARGELY a gas country with more gas reserves than crude oil reserves. Even the bitumen reserve located in the bitumen belt (stretching from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Edo States) is the second largest in the world after that of Canada and it's far BIGGER than the crude oil reserves in Nigeria. If huge deposits of gas on the oil basins of the North (Middle Belt and far Northern Nigeria) can be found using the latest 4-dimensional imaging devices that'll be fine and add to Nigeria gas reserves and if crude oil is found as well in commercial quantities that will be an extra.

To be honest I don't understand why doctors in Nigeria are recommending wheat!!! When giving health talks I make sure I create awareness on this wheat matter!!! God help us
COPIED BACK TO BASICS FOOD CHOICES!!!! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
WHEAT is now the preferred swallow meal for many Nigerian families particularly in the urban centres. Sadly too, some rural dwellers have hooked onto the fad that wheat is a “healthy” food. Early this year, a middle-aged man from Ekiti State came to my office for solution to his health challenges – diabetes and high blood pressure. Upon enquiry on his diet, he said wheat was his major meal daily. According to him, virtually all the civil servants working at the state and local governments in Ekiti State also eat wheat as their regular meal. In fact, he said those that are not eating wheat particularly in the state capital could not afford it, but not due to knowledge of its harm to health.

What an irony? Otherwise, how do we explain the preference of wheat to pounded yam, which the Ekiti people have been eating for good health and vitality centuries back? The prevalent consumption of wheat across the country has clearly shown that in the absence of knowledge, people can accept poison as therapy. After all, wheat is the first choice food for diabetics on the strength of doctors’ advice. Nationwide, wheat has overshadowed yam flour and other starchy foods that are peculiar to our culinary culture in Nigeria. Unfortunately, this is one dietary change that may prove suicidal for many people given the inseparable linkage of diet to health or ill health. Though wheat, like other grains, is rich in fibre and some other nutrients, it is one food anybody that desires wellness and long life should be kept at arm’s length. WHY? There are THREE inherent DANGERS in the chemistry of WHEAT that make it a CLASSIC DESTROYER OF HEALTH. I call them the DOWNSIDES of WHEAT.

The FIRST: WHEAT contains GLUTEN – a protein that causes inflammation, a systemic process that has harmful effects across all the organ systems in the body including the brain, heart, joints, eyes and digestive tract. As a matter of fact, inflammation does not only precede all degenerative diseases like diabetes, cancer, stroke, glaucoma, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease, but also fuels their insidious progression. A review paper in the New England Journal of Medicine listed 55 DISEASES that can be caused by eating GLUTEN-CONTAINING foods.

The diseases include osteoporosis, anemia, cancer, canker sores, fatigue, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. The paper also linked gluten to many psychiatric and neurological diseases including depression, schizophrenia, dementia, nerve damage, epilepsy and autism. The paper concluded that there are 120 or more diseases associated with eating foods that contain gluten. Dr. Joseph A. Murray, MD states that he is surprised how often gluten affects the brain.

The SECOND: WHEAT study by Dr .J. Robert Cade, MD of the University of Florida showed that people with autism and schizophrenia have high level of PEPTIDES in their urine. These PEPTIDES, according to Dr. Cade, come from CASEIN (protein in milk and other dairy products) and GLIADIN and GLUTEN in WHEAT, BARLEY, OATS and RYE. Another study of 30,000 patients analyzed from 1969 – 2008 reported in the journal of the American Medical Association found that people diagnosed with GLUTEN-SENSITIVITY had a higher risk of death from cancer and heart disease than the normal population. Worse still, the bulk of wheat being consumed in the country is the AMERICAN HYBRID STRAIN, which has much HIGHER GLUTEN content than the European wheat.

The THIRD: Inherent DANGER in the Chemistry of WHEAT is its High GLYCEMIC Index GI. Glycemic Index is a scale that ranks carbohydrate rich foods by how much they raise blood sugar level compared to low glycemic foods. Wheat has GI of 71 compared to yam and sweet potato with GI of 49 and 54 respectively. Invariably, eating food with high GI like wheat regularly promotes WEIGHT GAIN and makes DIABETES INTRACTABLE. According to Dr. Mark Hyman, MD “WHEAT is a MAJOR contributor to OBESITY, DIABETES, CANCER, DEMENTIA, DEPRESSION and many Modern ills.”

IF ONE MAY ASK, WHAT IS THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE RECOMMENDATION of WHEAT as a MEAL to FIGHT --------------------- HIGH BLOOD SUGAR? WHEAT IS A MAJOR DESTROYER OF HEALTH. PLEASE KINDLY
FOWARD TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS YOU MAY SAVE MORE LIVES BY QUALIFIED PHARMACISTs & NUTRITIONISTS.

porthouse7:
Nigeria actually hijacked it from benin Republic, even Badagry is part of Benin Republic, what does togenji mean in Yoruba?
@Porthouse7

You're historically incorrect. Did you know that Ajase (Porto Novo) a pure Yoruba city was ORIGINALLY part of the larger Yorubaland in Nigeria in the 1890s before it was excised and merged with Dahomey (now Benin Republic)?

Tongeji is in reality a Yoruba-speaking community which just less than 5 minutes from Porto Novo (or originally called by its Yoruba name called Ajase ) in Benin Republic.

Tongeji is likely a dialectic variant of the Yoruba language BUT then again, I watched a subtitled documentary done by the iconic movie veteran Tunji Kelani (TK) who interviewed to Oba of Ajase (Porto Novo) in Benin Republic who spoke about the Yoruba foundational origins of Porto Novo from Iseyin in Oyo, Nigeria centuries back. He ALSO CLEARLY stated in the documentary which is still online that the Ogus (formerly called Eguns) were allowed to settle among the Yorubas of Ajase because the Ajase folks and Ogus are ancestrally related to one another. The Oba said so further affirming that Ogus and Yorubas are direct blood relatives.

Since Tongeji is just less than 5 minutes from Porto Novo a Yoruba-speaking city in Benin Republic, it's likely that the Ogus who the Yorubas of Ajase (Porto Novo) allowed to stay with them straddle both sides of Tongeji and Porto Novo as well.
PoliticsRe: Oil Rich Tongeji Island In Ogun State by Konquest: 12:15am On May 14, 2025
Unlimitk:
Theirs is an agrarian community surrounded by water. Isolated from the rest of the world, life for the people of Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State has been gloomy, reports Precious Igbonwelundu.
The closest they’ve got to a school are two delapidated buildings with no chairs and boasting of fallen roofs and burst zinc. These buildings serve as classrooms for children in primary one to six in the community’s primary school, which the highest certificate warding institution on Tongeji Island.

During a recent visit by our correspondent, the people claimed a lot of their kins have died in the last five years, while expectant mothers are either ferried to Port Novo in neighboring Benin Republic to be delivered or they get delivered of their babies at home in very crude ways by local birth attendants.

Of course, there is a community health centre commissioned in 2001 by former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, but it has been in ruins for so many years until the Nigerian Navy (NN) recently renovated the structure. And more frightening is the fact that the first time in five years that the people of the Island had contact with anything like orthodox medicine was on May 23, this year, when the NN extended medical assistance to the area as part of efforts to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
With a land mass of approximately 200 hectares and a population of over 500 people, Tongeji Island is situated less than five minutes drive from Port Novo in Benin Republic, and 150 minutes by speedboat from the Western Naval Command (WNC) headquarters in Apapa, Lagos. Surrounded by aquatic splendour, the island with its enormous palm/coconut trees, white sand, greenery, humid weather and most recently discovered crude oil should ordinarily be a tourists’ paradise.

But sadly, all there is in the community are ruined structures. It boasts of no access roads, no electricity and not even a market for the people to readily sell their livestock and other farm produce. Commercial boats from Badagry, The Nation gathered, come to the Tongeji jetty once in five days and charges as much as N800.
To the people of the community, being born in Tongeji is akin to being cursed because aside the obvious neglects and alienation, they have been plagued by smugglers, pipeline vandals and other criminal elements who see the island as a safe haven. And despite a report published by The Nation in December 2014, detailing the plight of the people, nothing has been done by the government to give them succour.

This reporter who was privileged to follow the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) WNC, Rear Admiral Fergusson Bobai, his Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), as well as the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commordore Abraham Adaji, to the Island recently, observed that the only painted structures there are the renovated medical centre, the monarch’s palace and the Catholic Church.

At the entrance to the community, a green sign post welcoming people to island was sighted with the NN’s logo on it. The narrow road with white sand that leads to the village collapsed where palm trees began, which leads straight to the palace of the monarch, Oba Bi Olorunkosi.

There are about 20 houses on the Island with an uncompleted bungalow situated behind the monarch’s palace described as the home of one of the richest men on the Island. Also, there are two 50KVA generators recently provided by the navy to power the medical centre and provide the entire community with electricity for at least two hours a day.

Although the inhabitants claimed over 500 people were still resident in the community, not many people, not even school children, were seen. It was gathered from the residents that hardship has forced a handful of their kins to migrate to other places, just as families who can afford the financial burden, have moved their wards to Augustine School in Port Novo.

According to the King’s interpreter, Rochas Idowu, who also manufactures wooden boats, children who school outside the community were usually transported by canoes and wooden boats. Idowu was at the jetty to welcome the monarch’s guests with a group of women chanting welcome songs in Yoruba and using aluminium plates and spoons as drums.

“Our community has been forgotten and isolated from the rest of Nigeria. They only remember us during elections when they come with lofty promises. Our people have relocated to other places because the hardship is too much. We have begged the government to make this Island look like other cities.

“We are basically farmers here. We engage in fish and animal farming, crop farming too. Our land is very fertile but our challenge is not being able to sell our produce. There is no market here. No road connecting other communities. The nearest Nigerian market to us is Badagry and boats that ply that route come once in five days. We also pay as much as N800 for a trip,” he said.

Disturbed by the hopeless state of the island, the monarch lamented the difficulty his people go through to live normal lives.

“Government should help by constructing a road that will link us with other cities. People are relocating because of the hardship. Whenever I am summoned from Abeokuta, I usually leave here by 5a.m because the journey will take about five hours.

I have to cross to Otho Topa in Benin Republic, where they will bring my car and then take me to Ajase through Igbolo before going to Idi-Iroko and then proceeding to Abeokuta. A road should be constructed from Whekan (a bother community about 50 minutes away). There can be a bridge, we have swampy areas where the bridge can be done.

The government has come to look at it and promised that work will start, but we have not seen them. That is why all our children left this community; they have gone to look for work outside. If we had a road, there will be commercial activities here and our youths will be around to build this place. But everything is like this because our economy is down and there’s nothing for the youths to do,” he said.

Hope in sight?
Despite the despair, the visit of the navy boss, the people believe, could be the beginning of a new dawn. For starters, Bobai who said he was sent by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, to survey the Island ahead of the establishment of a naval unit there, promised to get his boss’ approval for the renovation of the school.

He also promised to discuss the issue of access road with the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun whenever he has audience with him. To Bobai, the establishment of the base, aside deterring criminals and intruders, will establish federal presence and bring economic activities to the Island.

“I visited Tongeji Island on the directives of the CNS because the navy is very particular about this place. I came to determine the infrastructure on ground ahead of the establishment of a naval observation unit.
“Between March and June 1, the FOB Badagry has arrested 17 Benoinese for alleged smuggling and crude oil theft. It is a clear indication that criminal elements exploit the vulnerabilities of the Island to achieve their aims. That is why the navy wants to increase its presence here by establishing a unit.

“Already, the community has offered land to the navy for that purpose and we are positive that aside providing security for them, the base will attract development and expand the place,” said Bobai

PoliticsRe: FG To Begin Drilling Crude Oil In Tongeji Island – Senator Adeola by Konquest: 11:48pm On May 13, 2025
TimeManager:
The Senator representing the Ogun West senatorial district, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has hinted that Ogun State will soon join oil-producing states in Nigeria as drilling of crude oil will commence soon at Tongeji Island, located in the Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

Adeola, while speaking in Ota at the 2nd Edition of the Town Hall Meeting/Mega Empowerment and Thank You Tour of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area,

said modalities are being put in place to commence drilling of crude oil at the island on the fringe of the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

He attributed the feat to the economic reforms by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration and the investor-friendly Ogun State Government of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

He commended the president for taking the bull by the horns and giving the country’s economy a new direction and praised Abiodun for espousing the infrastructural and socioeconomic development of Ogun State.

He noted that Tinubu has attracted more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Nigeria within two years in office, and Abiodun has transformed Ogun into the best investor destination of choice.

The senator added that when the drilling activities commence in the oil-rich Tongeji Island, Ogun State will witness astronomical economic growth and prosperity while Nigeria’s crude oil production will soar.

Adeola commended the Ogun State governor for completing the agro-cargo airport, which has attracted other mega projects from the private sector, establishing a dry sea port, and delivering other infrastructural projects across the state.

Adeola declared that the governor will be remembered as the best in terms of the delivery of infrastructural and socioeconomic development.

On the empowerment programme, Adeola explained that he decided to decentralise the programme to empower more constituents in the senatorial district.

In another development, the senator declared that the nation’s affairs, particularly the economy, are no longer in the hands of the cabal.

He stated that various reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his assumption of office have rendered members of the cabal who held the country’s economy by the jugular impotent, stressing that Nigeria is now on the path of economic recovery.

Adeola defended the tax reform policy of the incumbent administration in Nigeria, noting that it is to salvage Nigeria’s economy from the members of the cabal.

Adeola added that the tax reform policy supported by the majority of members of the National Assembly has brought holistic change and liberation to the country’s economy.

The real problem in the EU is socialist policies, but that's another story.

Japan is dying and they've always had a restrictive immigration policy. All a country needs is to guarantee their safety with nuclear ICBM's.

Most concerns about aging societies in North America & Western Europe will be mitigated by technology. Take self driving cars for instance. Yes there's a truck driver shortage due to retirements, but there's automated trucks on the road in Texas and Arkansas right now, not tomorrow....right now. The money saved will surely contribute to stabilizing the economy in the same way that computers did when they became widespread.

There might even be artificial human reproduction in the near future. All that's needed is artificial human embryo incubators and government could raid human sperm and egg banks and produce millions of fresh citizens.

There's no disaster ahead for the West....and no, Black Africa will not inherit the world by outbreeding everyone else. grin

Good Luck to Nigeria.
Well said.

SIRTee15:
The idea that manufacturing can't return to the west is just lazy thinking.
Western powers allowed manufacturing to move east because it's cheaper for the companies. Simple.
The investors are happy because the ROI is crazy. The day that becomes impossible is the day they lose interest in the east. If BYD replace Tesla and Huawei replace apple, there will be no gain manufacturing in the east anymore.
The market is still in the west, that's what U don't understand.
Manufacturing can be rejigged to ensure some value chain returns to the west. Already Trump tarrif has forced some auto makers to announce they would move their factories to the USA.
If china now has 100% robotic manufacturing in some factories- no humans working there, all robots; how come such cannot be replicated in the west where it's desperately needed.
The concentration of manufacturing in china is simply because it's very convenient and the western investors allowed it.

If U think all those low paying job are paying any reasonable taxes, then I have heaven to sell to U.

It's better they are simply replaced with technology and then tax the tech companies.
I don't get your point about European tech companies, any company doing business in any country should pay tax- foreign or not.

UK politicians destroyed that country with their immigration- obsessed policy.

France and UK brought in loads of immigrants thinking that would help curb inflation- they were wrong.

The depressed wages that came as a result of above discouraged natives to work. because they realised it's much better to be on welfare than work a care job that brings home next to nothing.
Interesting takes.

1: Manufacturing, isn’t going back to the west. Trump knows it but is only playing to the gallery. Trumps war with China is not about manufacturing. It’s about the long term viability of the dollar.

2: Robots don’t pay taxes. When was the last time you saw a tech company from Europe?

UK is now dependent on US for tech, China for manufacturing and Africa for Labour. Not just bottom cleaners but skilled Labour like doctors and engineers.

I am not a fan of migration. I have said it that the immigrants ultimately cause resentment and destroy the society of their hosts but sometimes that is the price for survival.
Succinctly stated.

Sir Keir Starmer has promised to overhaul a "broken" immigration system, with plans to tighten English tests for all visa applicants and their adult dependants among the reforms being considered.

Migrants will also have to wait 10 years to apply to settle in the UK, instead of automatically gaining settled status after five years, under the plans.

Labour's long-awaited migration rules, to be published soon, will "create a system that is controlled, selective and fair," the prime minister said.

Shadow home secretary Chris Philp said the idea Sir Keir "is tough on immigration is a joke" and promised to push Parliament to introduce a cap on migration.

Speaking before the publication of the Immigration White Paper, Sir Keir accused industries being "almost addicted to importing cheap labour" instead of "investing in the skills of people here and want a good job in their community".

He singled out engineering as an industry "where visas have rocketed while apprenticeships have plummeted".

The current system shuts out "young people weighing up their future" who missed out on potential training, Sir Keir said.

Obiedun:
This is the same Burkina Faso you are hyping:

At least 130 civilians were killed by Burkina Faso government forces and allied militia in March near the western town of Solenzo, Human Rights Watch (HRW) says in a new report

It says the "massacre", following an operation led by Burkinabè special forces, resulted in widespread civilian deaths and displacement of ethnic Fulanis.

The Fulani are a pastoralist, largely Muslim community who the government has often accused of backing Islamist militants - an allegation denied by community leaders.

About 40% of Burkina Faso is under the control of groups linked to al-Qaeda and Islamic State operating in West Africa's Sahel region.

The attacks, in which thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced, have continued despite promises by the country's military leaders to deal with the insurgency.

Ahead of the release of the HRW findings on Monday, there were reports of more militant attacks over the weekend with dozens of military and civilian casualties.

The BBC has not been able to confirm these reports and the authorities do not routinely comment on reported jihadist attacks.

The BBC has approached the Burkina Faso government for comment on the HRW report.

Last year, the government described as "baseless" another HRW report that had accused soldiers of a "massacre" in which 223 villagers were killed.

It also said that any allegations of human rights abuses committed "in the fight against terrorism" were systematically investigated.

The rights group says it interviewed witnesses, militia members, journalists and the civil society and analysed videos shared on social media to make the findings regarding the army's involvement in the March killings.

HRW previously said the army was "implicated" in the killings, based on videos that were being shared online showing dozens of dead and injured people, although the findings were not definitive.

It now says further research has "uncovered that Burkina Faso's military was responsible for these mass killings of Fulani civilians".

It adds that least 100 more civilians were killed last month in reprisal attacks by jihadist groups against those seen as helping the military.

"Mass killings of civilians by government security forces, militias, and Islamist armed groups amount to war crimes and other possible atrocity crimes," it says.

The rights group has urged the government to investigate and prosecute all those responsible for the crimes.

This came as junta leader Capt Ibrahim Traoré returned from Moscow after a Friday meeting with Vladimir Putin on cooperation and security in the Sahel.

Since the military seized power, Burkina Faso has turned away from colonial power France and towards Russia for help in tacking the Islamist insurgency.

he said.

Suspended Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has cautioned his supporters over their confrontational approach in demanding his reinstatement, stating that not everything should be done with “Oshobe”, a local term implying force or aggression.

Speaking during a service of songs held in Port Harcourt in honour of late elder statesman Edwin Clark, Fubara said while he appreciated their support, some of their actions had worsened his situation rather than helped.

He emphasised his preference for a more measured and peaceful strategy, stating that he was not desperate to return to office.

Fubara was responding to remarks by several speakers at the event, including Apostle Zilly Aggrey, who criticised his suspension and called for his immediate reinstatement.

The suspended governor distanced himself from their remarks, describing them as personal opinions insisting that there statements would not likely promote peace

Fubara said: “Can’t you see how much better I look? Do you really think I’m interested in going back there? My spirit has already left that place. Not everything is by oshobe. Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit has already left there”.

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has launched a scathing attack on Peter Obi and the Labour Party, describing them as a “short rental” political arrangement incapable of challenging Nigeria’s entrenched political order.

Speaking, Sowore dismissed the notion that Obi represents any meaningful opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“Labour Party Is a Political Airbnb” — Sowore
Sowore likened the Labour Party to an Airbnb rental, suggesting Obi’s political influence was temporary and transactional.

He added that Obi’s 2023 momentum was largely driven by religious sentiment, not policy or revolutionary intent.

“The APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket created fear among Christian voters. Peter Obi became the default Christian response. But that’s not real opposition—it’s reactive politics.”
It's LARGELY a correct assertion though. This is partly why Peter won in Lagos by just 3000 votes because of the Yoruba Xtian voters but then Atiku Abubakar also won in Osun State which has a large indigenous Muslim population by a close margin (due to the renegades and internal dissidents in the State APC led by Rauf Aregbesola who would have delivered more votes for Tinubu during the last Presidential cycle in 2023), hence showing more liberal dynamics in voting across all the party lines in the South West and other regions of Nigeria.

On the other hand, Peter's ethnic kinsmen were more insular and tribalistically bigoted by giving him over 90 percent of their South East votes while some of his supporters were cyberbullying others to vote for Peter.

The self-confessed Ijaw guy called Omoyele Sowore himself has his own demons and I stopped trusting his online sources of false news reports from 2019 right into 2020 until I closely fact-check them.
