Dear Op,

From which credible poll did you read that Nigerians have lost trust in the President? The truth is the people who voted him knows the rot of 16 years wouldn't be cleaned in 2 years.

How would you claim you trust someone and still give his opponent over 82% of your votes?

It's better you say the people of SS/SE don't trust him. They never lost trust in PMB coz they never trusted him.

A disgrace to whom? You the disgruntled individual whom her country decided it did not need? Don't climb a high horse if you are a midget.

There is no right or wrong in leadership, only choices. Germans have chosen a path that may hurt them, or make them the most humane people in the world come 2050.

In the end, only history can judge.

Lord knows I dislike this dullardic Administration and it's incompetent and corrupt ministers, But I refuse to believe everything from this propaganda news outlet called Sahara reporters.

Dambazau is a corrupt guy, yes, We all know all Buhari ministers are corrupt saints. But where is the evidence for this allegation?

Something else just came to my mind, Sowore the owner of Sahara reporters is a Tinubu boy, and we all know that Tinubu is not happy with the way Buhari is appointing his kinsmen to all the positions.
The ministry of interior headed by Dambazau has been Northernized, almost all the recently recruited personnels are core northerners; Tinubu is not happy about that. Now he's using his boy Sowore to get back at Dambazau. See screenshot below to confirm the fact that Sowore is Tinubu's boy.
like I said earlier, I'm not holding brief for Dambazau; Because, he like every other politician is corrupt, But Sahara reporters can't be trusted

No, it's not. That's her greatest work so far. Writing for National dailies is not writing nonfiction or understanding it. Even some of our local mechanics understand the workings of machines more than some graduates of Mechanical Engineering.

Hmm.

I've thought of it in that light. I think you're right. Next time I'll just think of a roadside mechanic when I consider Adichie.

You are far from understanding literature then. You need a thorough study of Literature. Amaricanah is the best book written by her so far. None comes close.

You're right, apart from a Literature degree and years of working with a national daily, I have no experience with literature.

Saying its her best work is the strongest indictment of her overhype.

@kraftykc: it's plain to see where the problem lies.
I mean, you read Purple Hibiscus,Half of a yellow sun,Americanah ( books that have won several awards) and you didn't think much of them. You even consider 'Orange is the new black' crappy? Really? A highly acclaimed movie in it's 6th season that has also won several major awards?
Dude, the problem isn't far from you.

The problem is that I refuse to agree to the idiotic idea that throwing away values is the answer to every problem in life. The lead characters in both the series and the novel have similar "awakenings" that sees them become more liberal and uninhibited with their previously held values. Don't get me wrong this isn't universally condemnable by any stretch but how these two in particular go about it is ratchet to the core. They do not try to evolve their previous characteristics to make themselves better people, no they simply discard the cloaks of responsibility and respect that society enforces on us all so we can live with ourselves just to satisfy so urges that they cannot affirm will last a lifetime. To tag this as growth is an insult to biology.

I think people keep underestimating the influence these programs can wield on societies if not they'd be more concerned about them. Piper is still NOT a confirmed lesbian but she engages in it with a gusto that says otherwise yet she emotionally blackmails her friend and fiance when they fall for each other in a saner and more understandable manner

I'm serious about not getting married and I will not lie, much of my stance is in defiance to what is passed as "normal" in these times.

I thought the lead character rather selfish, but then again, most everyone in Americanah is flawed in some way, including the lead character. I suspect the writer ultimately is rebelling against the idea of the ''pure and right'' hero or heroine, surrounded by a large group of incompetents that need saving.

On the plus side....lots of nostalgia in that book.(If you were an 80'S child).

I'll warrant the nostalgia but really I could do without the aimless rebellion. What was she so rebellious about? Angry that a lover she ditched moved on, or happy that she broke up a home JUST like the Aunty Uju did with the unnamed General? She hated seeing her aunt like that and she goes and does EXACTLY the same thing she loathes in her youth... I don't know if the irony was intended but I had no respect for that character

I haven't finished Americanah yet but it's been interesting so far.

I read Purple Hibiscus and it was alright. Started Half of a Yellow Sun and couldn't continue, I finished Americanah and wanted to strangle everyone who thought it "good"! It was pure shite! Terrible storyline with zero social impact to an actual Nigerian, horrible values being promoted and just a detestable lead character. I was thoroughly disappointed with the lead.

Truth is the wisest thing is to do is to confront your brother and make him see the horrible error of his ways, ask him how he'd feel if someone were toying with your heart like he is with those other girls. if he loves you, that may strike a cord.

I can forsee a tribal war brewing here. Until we give preference to Merit over ethnicity, Nigeria won't grow. The current Governor of the Bank of England is a Canadian despite the presence of world class institutions.

But the Ibos shouldn't cry foul, they had a fair share during GEJ's tenure and Nigeria did burn.

GEJ's Tenure
President - South South Bayelsa
SGF - South East Ebonyi
Deputy Speaker- South East Imo
Deputy Senate President - South East Enugu
Minister of Finance- South South Delta
Minister of Petroleum - South South Bayelsa
Minister of Aviation - South East Anambra later Osita Chidoka
Minister of Health- South East Ebonyi
Minister of Works - Onolememen
Minister of Power - Nnaji later Nebo
Minister of Labour - Emeka Wogu - Abia

All these happened under the hero and the South Westerners never shouted as you all are now. I guess you now know how it feels when you're left out of your entitlement.

Ministerial appointments are not positions granted at discretion, they are constitutionally mandated that all states must have ministers. So this is not a pointer toward favoritism.

Politics / Re: What Can Nigeria Learn From The BREXIT Debacle? by kraftykc(m): 11:08pm On Jul 01, 2016
The OP tries to make a good point but he fails and woefully so at this task. All the structures and policies he believes he has pioneered in thinking that Biafrans have not taken into account were all worked out by people smarter than him several decades ago when Biafra was declared a sovereign state. I'm not saying that modern Biafra (if it ever exists) should copy and paste an archaic document but do not think you are the only one with a brain here. The British people fell for a political ruse from a hungry politician that wants to be PM, doesn't mean that the referendum is universally binding nor a legal document, any other government can come and rescind the decision.

Also this highhanded talk about "what have you done" is pretty fuckingg stupid to be honest. Nigeria is messed up and so is everything in her, the SE isn't divorced from the rest of the country and in fact is objectively noted that it suffered the most Federal neglect over time since the civil war where no buildings, infrastructure or palliative care was offered by the FG after killing so many Nigerians to keep the SE in.

Biafra is spurred by a thousand sentiments which I have identified as stemming from the government's lack of basic human decency after battering an entire region. How many crisis in the North have ravaged Igbo owned properties yet there is not ONE commission for reconciliation.

I think is OP is childish, a surface skimmer and seeking to insult but his tactics are tired and pedantic.

I'm not a supporter of Biafra in any form but I hate Injustice and piss-poor analysis, and this OP ought to have seen that the British can afford to make any mistake they choose because IT IS THEIRS TO MAKE! Stop trying to police them as if you know better than they do, because no matter the analysis you see on TV it doesn't substitute for true experience.

Meanwhile...."In his remarks, the National President of MULAN, Dr Kamal Dawud maintained that to ensure peaceful coexistence in the country, non-Muslim brothers and sisters must understand that Islam is a peaceful religion with some sensitive issues." WTF... How does this make any sense to supposedly "learned" lawyers? Do they know what the Constitution says about speech, crime, punishment etc? Why not speak against mob actions based on fictional charges, even if the charges are real there is the Sharia code, Penal code, and the bloody Constitution.

Why can't lawyers advocate for the LAW for Chessake??

Politics / Re: True Federalism, Its Advantages And Implications. by kraftykc(m): 7:18am On Jun 14, 2016
Unbrandedguy:
Having read all advantageous effects. I state the disadvantages:
1. States have right to form state police, Nig govt fears this will create room for state rebellion and subsequently use police for state govt personal purposes.
2. States have right to be autonomous, a room Nig govt sees as introduction to seccession.
3. States control their resources, Nig govt feels this would leave many states in the north impoverished.
4. State govt earns varied salaries, Nig govt feels some southern states will have more money and enslave others.
5. States finally have right to leave or stay as one entity in Nig. A light to achieving Biafra/ND republic, Oduduwa republic etc. Nig govt does not want that to happen..

These are disadvantages..
Its for us to check if they weigh up to, or outweight the advantages.

1. This is valid fear, but let us consider that the army will remain a Federal Army. Also as long the Constitution of the Republic retains the President's control over the Police, the State Governors must go through the FG to appoint CPs (Commissioners of Police for States) this fear need not become a reality.

2. Another valid point, but again the Army, DSS, EFCC, and a host of other executive checks can nullify this threat from the outset, as to can the language that Constitution adopts in bringing regionalism back. If the FG words the legislation properly secession need not be a threat.

3. Northern States have mineral resources to rival the Congo. I believe their biggest fear would be access to the Ports in the South, I do not see the South having as much money as the North based on extractive resources. They only need functional floor plans as well as proper resource repositioning.

4. Not necessarily true, and how can one state "enslave" another? I think the Northern state will have a rougher start but don't believe they won't get their houses in order quickly. The political class has a way of finding unifying rallying points and their grassroots policies are better than most of what the South can offer. They'll be fine in no time.

5. No State will have the "right" to leave. The UN Charter gives us the right to self-determination but that's about all the rights any State can have to secede.

NB. I think it's true that fear holds us back but Regionalism is the best we have to offer ourselves. We cannot keep on in this terrible way
