You are very funny, indeed very funny. I have been out of coverage area for a while now that is why but you can check the last time I posted here and also check my contribution to this thread. I am not from Nigeria and that is why I cannot answer very specific Nigerian question but I have tried to contribute my 1 cent of input anytime I can.
I must tell you that even my question that you have re-posted never got answered but I did not nag about it but let it pass because I figured no one wanted to answer it.
If anything at all I will be justified if I do not stay on this thread . . . when I shared my challenges during my interview experience no one offered me help or even encouragement. Only Kemzone2003 shed more light about the issue and one other guy who did so . . . check your facts right before you start spewing garbage!
Is it because I choose not to insult people here like your other friends do all the time and then come back to say they are just joking? I think that is whay you have decided to be blind to my contributions. I strongly take exception to your infantile remarks and I would ask you to withdraw!

I almost agreed with one other guy who said this thread was racist but I figured he meant discriminatory and then temmytanny put him in his right shoes.

Tosmy is still around waiting for there good time to come,hoping for next visa bulleting,i cant wait to celebrate god glory soooon,faith work wonder..........america we come soon[qu :Pote author=adesojiaderemi@]....flash back, to God be the glory

ksjlar: I asked this question earlier but I guess it has been missed by the experts.

Please pardon me to re-post it again:

Do you please know the specific help you get in the process of finding job as you stated that they assist you in the process of finding employment.
Also with the address of someone living in the states, will they check up on the person and see whether the size of his apartment is enough to accommodate you or whether he is well to do?

Thanx.

Congrats on your safe trip shina!
Nice one and insightful indeed. I hope @gunners now know what is in the envelope. So please listen to bobshina for your own good.

And to you bobshina, I declare that the Lord that has brought you this far will never abandon you and your family. Hope you are highly favored in Jesus' name.

Good Luck.

bobshina: Thank God. I finally landed in America with my family yesterday & d xperience was so wonderful. We don't hav much problem at port of enty- JFK airport NY, we join d queue for immigrant and we are 2nd on d queue. I gave d Immig Officer our PP & d Yellow envelopes. She checked to see if we've tried to open d envelopes. Thereafter, she opened the envelopes one after the other. took our finger prints and snap us. she then inputs some info into the system and finally stamped our PP.She then took us into the main room where she led us to a man. she gave our forms(contents of d yellow envelopes) to d man and d man gave us a form to put our fingerprint on it and signed it. Everytin took us less than 15 minutes in d airport.
Note: D yellow envelopes should never be opened pls. It contains all ur documents u've already seen : form ds 230, original police report, medical report,and d fotocopy of ur birth cert or NPC cert. ur 3 2x2 pasports collectd from u during the interview at lag. so, its all what u've already seen.

Once again Thanks to this great forum for the wonderful info shared by every1 for d benefits of all of us. I'm proud to b a Nigerian. God Bless 9JA.

Thank you all and GOD BLESS.

Point of correction. . .
Connecticut is rather on the east coast/side and not the west side. The west coast/side comprises California, Oregon, Washington State etc.

Thanks

/KSJ

adesojiaderemi@:
Connecticut dey west side,like 3.5hrs drive to New york and and 1hr drive to Boston.
TravelRe: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by ksjlar: 9:30am On Nov 22, 2012
Yes @adesojiaderemi, that is normally the procedure. In the case that an applicant could not successfully process his/her immigrant visa he is given 1 year to remedy the situation after which there will be no opportunity for recourse.

Anyways we all pray for michy and hope he come out tops. In my own case, I was placed on administrative processing and what I thought will take ages to process took only 2 weeks and then my visa came through the mail. Kemzone2003 if you are still keeping taps on issues here you can shed some light on the issue bro.

Thanks.

adesojiaderemi@:
I still dont get it,you were refused and were still given one year to take action?

To speak to good job, I think that your qualifications matter. If you have the right qualification for that good job then you will be in competition with others for it. Otherwise I think one has to update his/her skill set, probably take some classes, go back to college or something of the sort. NB. it is better to invest 4 years of your time to get that education than to spend the rest of your life doing menial job. This is my one cent on the issue. With the countries you can travel to I think the other experienced guys might answer it but I think you will still need a visa if you travel outside the Americas tho it will be easier to get the visa.

No way!

New Jersey is my official POE too but my other cousins in NY, Maryland and Atlanta are pulling me their side. I told them all that I will only go the place where I can get me a job even if it means Alaska lol. Leaving in Europe for a while now I don't want to go and burden anyone there knowing how it is. People can only be nice with you for a few weeks and if you do not get your A game on, they will quickly get fed up.

Birth Certificates

Available only to those resident in Ethiopia. Requests for copies of previously issued birth certificates should be addressed to the Office of Region 14 Administration, Vital Statistics Service, Municipality of Addis Ababa, P.O. Box 356, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; or to the equivalent office or any other municipality in which the birth was registered.

For children under ten years of age, a hospital birth certificate, court document confirming parentage, or a baptismal certificate and acknowledgment from one's "kebele" (urban neighborhood association) are sufficient documentation for issuance of a birth certificate. For children between the ages of eleven and thirteen, the above mentioned documents and school records are required for issuance. Any of the above documents and an identity card are satisfactory for issuance of birth certificates for persons over the age of eighteen.

Persons applying for original birth certificates should contact the appropriate municipal authorities and present hospital birth records, which have been authenticated by their "kebele." Because of the nature of the "kebele" system, the birth certificate may be issued by the municipality where the person presently resides rather than where the birth actually took place.

Hello Fellow DV graduates now perusing DV masters in the US.
My simple question is that if I travel to the US on Friday and travel out of the US on Sunday, will there be issues if I am coming back.

Just want to know if there will be any complications that will complicate issues for me. I have read earlier that you can leave on the same day you came in but just wanna be sure and also if any one can share an experience which is factual and not hear say.

Your opinions are highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Did Sandy destroy the house you were going to live in too? If so then you can change the address but you have to fill new forms and send to KCC if you have not yet gotten your 2NL. You can fill the forms online, go back to posts on this thread that has already explained how to fill application and send it through email.
If you already have your 2NL, then fill new forms with new address and take it to embassy on your interview day.

@femo:

TravelRe: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by ksjlar: 9:16am On Nov 04, 2012
Most of the time it becomes extra administrative work for KCC to change, either because the workload is too much or they get lazy/tired.
If you ask me I will say it is better to keep your address there and others on this forum has made address changes and it became more complicated.

You can go to wherever you want, if you so choose, then the catch here is that have the one living at the new york address inform you your letter landed so you go pick it up. It is then that it will be simpler to officially go change your address to whichever state you so wish.

The person living at your new york address should be trustworthy not to hijack your GC. shocked

Thankx

Thank you bro!
I will follow up with the embassy, but I have had 2 visas at the same time before and did not encounter any challenge.
I had J1 and B1/B2 in 2006, same time and no problems at all.

The rules might have changed I guess, but I will follow up with the embassy.

Thanks

godcherisher: Thank you very much my brother. But I advise that you get in touch with the consulate before departing because the C.O insisted on that, saying that, having two valid visa types at the same time is not acceptable at the POE and could cause problems,
TravelRe: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by ksjlar: 8:49pm On Nov 03, 2012
@godcherisher Congratulations!

Nice one my brother. All the best in the journey ahead.
I'm a bit surprised because my B1/B2 visa which will expire November next year was not cancelled when I was granted my DV visa.

Its all good bro.

Thanks be to God.

godcherisher: DV Experience Testimony

Alhamdulillah, All praises go to GOD.

Exactly one year after submitting our entry to the DV 2013, we got our visa delivered by courier today. As a token of appreciation for all the insightful information I have been able to gather from this forum I would like to share with you our whole DV 2013 experience.

Thursday, November 3, 2011: Application to DV Lottery 2013
This was the second time I applied since 2008 and it was the first time I entered my wife as an applicant. t all started on that date at exactly 1:37:46 PM EDT when I entered two separate applications for my wife and myself. It was quite stressful because I remembered that it was the last day to enter the application and I was on a business trip overseas but somehow I really wanted to give it a shot. I called my wife and elder daughter to ask them to send me scanned copies of their passport pictures and passport numbers. After much tweaking on the photographs to match the required specifications as per DV guidelines, I managed to complete the submissions.

I carefully saved the confirmation numbers, sent them to my private email and put a reminder in my outlook to check back on the result by May 1, 2012.

May 1, 2012: Selected and 1st NL
On that day, I attempted to check but the server was quite busy so I waited till the next day. At first, I checked with my confirmation number and I saw the message “ENTRY HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED”. Without much conviction, I checked for my wife and oh my god, the page looked different and I immediately new that she was selected. She was on a long phone call (women) and I waited patiently for her to finish. She completely forgot about the fact that I even applied for both of us so I let you imagine her surprise when I told her that she was notified by KCC. When we saw that about 100000 people are preselected but only 50000 visas were available we immediately rushed to collect the documents needed to pursue the application. We took pictures, completed the forms, checked diligently that everything was OK and sent the forms for my wife, my two daughters (my third daughter is already US citizen by birth. We lived there for about 4 years in the past on a L1 visa, which is inter-company transfer).

May 1, 2012 – August 17, 2012: The long wait
Her confirmation number was quite low DV2013AF00005XXX, so we knew that we should start gathering our documents as soon as possible especially with the nomadic life we have had (we lived in about 6 countries for the past 20 years).
However, we didn’t want to do it to early because we knew that some police certificate for instance are only valid 3 months from the issue date and the medical is only valid for six months. Therefore, we waited till we got our 2nd NL which arrived on August 17th 2013 which stated that our appointment is scheduled on October 3 at the US consulate in London . From that moment we started rushing to get all the documents pending and made arrangements for our medicals at Knightsbridge doctors in London. Everything went well but we started realizing that time was flying fast especially for the documents we had to get from countries where we had limited connections available.

October 3, 2012: DV Interview at US Consulate in London
We had our appointment at 8:00 AM so we left home (we live in London area) very early in the morning to be on time for the interview. Before arriving at the embassy, we stopped at a pharmacy nearby to consign our bags and non-essential effects for the interview. We found already a small queue ahead of us but most of them were non-immigrant visa. We handed our 2nd NL and the reminder letter we got from the US embassy two days before the interview and quickly passed the security check (airport style baggage scan)

At the reception, we were issued a calling number (I906) and were directed to a large waiting hall where we found lots of people waiting. Again most of them were non-immigrant visa and US citizen coming for their passport renewals.

At about 9:00 AM we were called at a window where we met a nice and friendly lady. She requested the notification letter and went to check if our medicals were sent by the Doctor’s office. After a while she came back with an envelope containing some XRay CD which she handed back to us stating that we should keep them and be ready to present it if ever it was requested at the port of entry She started collecting our documents in the order specified while asking few questions at the same time and scribbling some notes. I noticed that she had also the pictures, which we sent to KCC back in May and realized that there was no need for us to bring additional pictures.
Everything was in order except that we were missing one police record from one of the country where we were living before.
She then asked us to go pay the DV visa fee at the cashier which I did using my debit card. After that, she asked us to go wait in the hall again for somebody to call us for an interview.

At about 10:00 AM, we were called at another window for the interview. It was a young person who was conduction the interview. He asked my wife to step forward as the principle applicant and asked us all to raise our hand and perform the oath.
Here is how a short synopsis of the interview:
• C.O: Good morning, blablabla
• Wife: Good morning, blablabla
• CO: When did you play the lottery
• Wife: about a year
• C.O: Did you pay somebody for that
• Wife: Surprised, looked at me (for advice) and I nodded no because I was suspecting this to be a trick question
• C.O: What did you study
• Wife: XYZ
• C.O: One of your kid is US citizen, how come
• Wife: We lived there for more than 4 years while my husband was assigned there
• C.O: I have to cancel your current non-immigrant visas (Each of us had a 10 years B1/B2 visas which were still valid at the time of the interview). He stamped the visa pages with “CANCELED WITHOUT PREJUDICE”
• C.O: Called my elder daughter and asked her what she is doing
• Daughter: XYZ
• C.O: Please sign this paper to swear that in case you are issued a visa, you will not get married before going to the US
• Daughter: signed
• C.O: All your documents are in order but I will have to follow due process and wait till I receive all police records before granting the visa. He then gave us a blue sheet saying that the visa could not be approved today and indicated that we need to submit to them the missing police records along with our 4 passports as soon as possible through a secured courier service (DXSecure).

During the whole interview, I kept a low profile and let my wife responded to the questions without intervening since she was the principle applicant.

October 17, 2012: Sent missing documents and passports
We finally received the police records 10 days later and it was picked up by the courier service on Tuesday 17th for delivery to the US embassy. They also gave us a tracking number to allow us to monitor the progress on our application.

November 2nd, 2012: Visa processing completed
I was systematically checking twice a day to see if there is an update and even sent an email to the US consulate to inquire about the progress of our application to which they replied:

Thank you for your email.

We can confirm that your documents have been received and your application is under final review. We regret that we are unable to guarantee that the visas will be issued by a specific date. Please be assured that you will receive the documents as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Consular Information Unit
U.S. Embassy, London
CONS/CIU/GS

This informal method of responding enables us to respond to you within a shorter time. No record is being made of this correspondence. If you need to e-mail us again, please return this e-mail.

This email is UNCLASSIFIED.

On November 2, I received a text message saying that the documents are ready for collection on November 5. As I couldn’t bear the waiting anymore, I immediately called the company to arrange for a delivery on Saturday at a premium fee.

November 3rd, 2012: Visa delivered
Today, exactly one year since we entered the lottery, the courier arrive with a big sealed envelope containing 4 envelopes each labeled with our respective names along with our passports. I checked with my wife the visas and they are all valid for six months.

We often spend xMas period in US and we have already made arrangements to travel to Atlanta during that time in order to activate our green card. We are looking to move sometime in the summer once the kids have finished school and to give us also time to prepare our departure smoothly.

I want to make a statement of fact about the photo and the validation of it.
I made an experiment last year whereby I edited a white space to a size of 600 by 600 and lo and behold it came out as validated!

Point is that if even you take the size of a house and edit it by the size of 600 and 600 it will pass as validated. Mind you, it is a computer that makes this validation. It is only when the processing officers (human beings) look to see that the picture meets the specs that it will be disqualified becos it did not meet the requirements.

Kx: Can your pix and your application be disqualified if the online photo tool has verified your photo and confirmed it ok?

adzovia: NO. DONT EVEN OPEN THE MEDICAL REPORT. it would be opened at the embassy. so no need to photocopy something you are not allowed to see
Yes you are right adzovia@, the medical reports is NOT to be opened by you. It is the embassy officials that does the opening.
In my case tho, the doctor made a complete copy for my personal consumption and the official one to the embassy he sealed it to be handed to them. That's the norm here.

But then again I am not from naija but i think if you ask courteously, the hospital can give you a personal copy only if they are nice.

Am a bit confused as i cannot extend d validity of my int'l passport until it xpires. Pls forumites wats ur opinion on diz?
Well I had my spouse get a new passport becuase the old was also due to expire june 2013. There was no problem at all with the new one. We went to the interview also with the old one just in case they asked but they did not ask anything about why a new passpor. In any case if they ask why you made a new one, you could simply tell them about the 6 month rule.

By the way I am not from niaja.

Thanks.

honeydee: Hi guys, my question is directed to adzovia and any oda ghanaian that has gone for the interview. Did you use an e-passport? I hav d old passport which will expire in 2014 but sm1 was arguing wiv me that I'd need an e-passport. I'd jus like to confirm please
I actually used my old type passport and there was nothing wrong with that. It was perfectly accepted without any qualms. I did not interview in Ghana but I do not think that was a reason they accepted it.

Well it is just unfortunate because I shared my interview experience comprehensively on page one fifty something and no one even cared to acknowledge it with the exception of 3 people. You can go back to those pages or better still click on my name and you will see all my posts.
We have all spent our time lately on things which was not the reason why this thread was set up either by flaming the fire or cooling down tempers of those who are on fire.
What more can I say

jidedon2000@yah:

Hello Guys,

I just want to first of say thanks to the Lord almighty. Our visa came through the mail today. It was a registered mail so I had to got the post office and show an identification to pick it up. I opened it there and then and behold our passports with our six months DV visa in there with the accompanying yellow envelopes. It has a notice on top of mine that says I should not open it and to hand it over at the POE. I am so so happy that i cant even feel what just happened.

Quick thanks to all especially the following:

@Kemzone2003 - You shared with me some insightful comments backed by solid facts
@Yusmash00
@Don Kool

I wish all who are up for their interviews the very best of luck in Jesus' Name

Kemzone2003: It is often the case when an applicant for a visa is told that a final decision cannot be made on his visa application immediately. In doing so, the consular officer invokes Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act and informs the applicant that the case will be put on hold until the applicant’s eligibility for the visa can be determined. This processing “time-out” is taken frequently: approximately one million visa applications were subjected to 221(g) during 2010. Technically, 221(g) is considered a denial; in subsequent visa applications and registration in the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, this must be disclosed. Nevertheless, the overwhelming majority of 221(g) denials are overcome and visas issued.

There are, in essence, two types of 221(g) cases:

1.Washington-related “administrative processing”, in which a clearance or approval is required from an interested agency or agencies in Washington, D.C.
2.Post-related, in which the consular officer requires additional time, information, or documentation before making a final visa decision.

A.Clearances from Washington are required when the applicant presents issues of security, criminality, legal questions, technology exports from the US, other admissibility problems, or is from a country of concern. The question of a security “hit” can arise in a variety of situations, such as potential terrorists, individuals who previously worked as military or other attachés in the US for an unfriendly country, even if that work took place decades before, or even individuals who spent time in certain countries (e.g., Iran). To resolve these issues, a Security Advisory Opinion is needed. Often the “hits” arise because the applicant has a common name: other individuals with the same name are blacklisted, causing cases of mistaken identity or prolonged delays. Suspected criminal activity or ties (e.g., Russian mafia) can also lead to prolonged processing to allow for an investigation. In addition, consular officers refer some legal issues, such as certain material misrepresentations made in a visa application, to Washington for a legal advisory opinion. The application will be held in abeyance until receiving guidance from the Visa Office Advisory Opinion section.

A widely applicable phenomenon has been administrative processing for applicants, usually scientists, researchers, and businessmen, who may be exposed to technologies in the United States which fall under the Technology Alert List. The US does not want sensitive technologies to fall into the wrong hands. In such cases, the applicant is requested to provide an English-language resume, list of publications, and description of the proposed work to be done in the US, which is forwarded to Washington. Individuals who hail from certain countries, such as Iran, Syria, Sudan, must be cleared by Washington. Quite often, these clearances are a formality and simply a question of time to run through the interagency gamut. However, for certain types of clearances, the visa validity period may be limited.

B.Post-related issues can also be broad in scope. They may include investigations or verifications in the home country of the applicant or requests for information or documentation relating to the qualifications of the applicant for a visa. A consular officer may seek to investigate or verify issues such as:

•the legitimacy of a marriage (e.g., send an investigator to the home of the couple applying for a visa);
•employment of an applicant (e.g., calling an applicant’s company to verify that he does work there);
•tax filings or information (e.g., confirming with the tax inspectorate the tax number of an entrepreneur);
•pension fund payments; authenticity of an education document (e.g., sending an inquiry to the Ministry of Education or a school or university to confirm that such a diploma was issued);
•intentions or existence of a sponsor (e.g., calling the United States to speak to the signatory of an affidavit of support);
•or authenticity of a statutory document, such as a marriage, birth, or divorce certificate.

Additional document requests may include:
•a police certificate from a country in which the applicant lived after the age of 16;
•certified copies of court dispositions (arrests, convictions); confirmation of the date of a past departure from the US (e.g. visa overstay);
•employer tax documentation; additional affidavit of support (e.g., consular officer does not believe that the submitted affidavit of support suffices);
•job offer (e.g., a Lottery winner); financial documents (e.g., if the applicant will undergo medical treatment in the U.S.);
•and additional information about the job to be performed in the United States or the employer.

Sometimes, the initiation or outcome of these investigations can be erroneous. For example, a consular officer may mistakenly believe that an applicant has a background in a technology that is on the Technology Alert List; a consular investigator may visit the wrong office address; a secretary who picks up the phone at the applicant’s place of employment may tell the consular caller that no such person works there when in fact the applicant does work there.
