Offer to pay per article or at least weekly, you'll be making your pick from among the best writers on this platform.

And @KulgEr, I second your opinion of creating a dedicated thread meant for writers hunting for jobs.

It would help everyone to prevent all these shady .50 kobo guys flocking around NL.
About same time last year, I got a surprise email with a N10-per-word long-term gig offer - FROM A NIGERIAN blogger.

On my first delivery, he mentioned almost giving up on NL writers, but thought to try one last time; then found my contact.

Lately, he needed some other gigs somewhat outside the scope of our regular engagements, and I recommended NL again. Baba declined. He say e no fit snake through the “too much noise” on the platform. LOL

Sadly, [Like Baba and BoarderlessTrade ],many still de recount their bad experience with writers wey them jam on NL.

In the search for budget-friendly rates, some prefer ‘Indians’ on foreign job boards and platforms like Indeed, Reddit, Quora, etc to NLers.

Na statement of fact say Nigerians are among the most dominant and top-performing freelancers on popular foreign job boards.

NAiraland, being naija’s biggest brand, [shey I correct?] should be a sure plug for A-class freelancers — from writing to graphics, and everything between. But, apparently, we never ready for that conversation.

See Reddit, for instance. They have well organized threads with detailed rules for hirers/hirees ( including minimum rates etc).

If we replicate that pattern on NL, it would be a shoo-in!

Truthfully, initial set up and consistency might be somewhat tricky, but If achieved, it’ll turnout a small reliable community many would appreciate, eventually; both the for-hire and hirer.

But then, it starts with interest:
1. Cleverseo
2.
3.
4.
5.

Who else thinks it’s worth it?

You outsource when you know the original bargain is bogus enough to settle your workers well-enough and still have something in your pocket.

OP, you no try at all.

Trusting faceless monikers to handle a project as sensitive as you mentioned -- without any thorough unboarding process -- was very unreasonable. It's understandable if you found them on jobboards like fiverr, upwork and co, and hired based on their gig reviews.

Besides, how do you screen a group of self-acclaimed 'writers' with individual assignments and with the intention to publish each of their submissions? No reviews? no personal expereince with them, no referals??

Also, from day one, trust was a big issue; a concern youre yet to clear. A link to one of your profiles would have settled the dust. I no doubt you o, but wonder why you havent addressed this identity issue; which seems a big one on such a forum; particularly with your 'irregular' offer.

Well, as mentioned, brother, NL is not exclusively a writer's forum. So, it's tough to tell who is, and who isnt. Here, anyone who has a gmail ID and can spell the terms " I am a writer" is a writer. After all, job no kuku de anywhere. But who's to blame when they deliver what they know best and expect their PROMISED wages? YOU!

Of course, they should get paid for their work. Except such deliveries do not satisfy the mutually agreed terms and conditions --if any -- a workman is worth his wage.

The Bigger Worry

it's funny how we find only terrible offers on Nairaland.

I have [almost] never seen a 'good offer' posted here. The Baba of them all na N3 per word. Although i've enjoyed some good gigs here, the jobs weren't posted; I was emailed via my signature.

It's either the likes of Ekems2020 who has a 50kobo-per-word offer and only pays his slaves after 100 articles, or Mr. OP BoarderlessTrade wey ready pay times twenty of Ekems2020's offer (#10-per-word) but de find writers wey go do am on credit, by 'faith.'

I think e go make sense if we create some sort of "Freelance Writing Job Board" thread where only 'verifiable' monikers will be taken seriously to hire and be hired. By good standard, N6-minimum-per-word is relatively cheap for industry-grade deliveries -- or, las las, say N4.

If people looking to outsource can find such 'trusted' hands on here without any much testings and interviews and dispointments, i think more hirers will bookmark the thread for a go-to outsourcing solution.

Back to OP - Mr, you no try at all. Las Las, Godspeed!

Jobs/VacanciesRe: I Need Writers - Rate Starts At N5/word - Reviews & How-to Guides by Kul3ger(m):
BorderlessTrade:
Hello Nairlanders

I need writers! This job will eventually pay up to ten naira per word (N10/w) for the right people, so read carefully. However, we'll start from N5/word for everyone.

I really hate the greedy lots on Nairaland who receive well-paid jobs from foreign clients but are TOO STINGY to pay writers even N5/word. I really hate you guys with passion and pray that the money you make off the sweat of these writers you exploit will have NO blessing in your lives whatsoever. I wish I could provide enough jobs for every writer on this platform. So that you two-faced greedy rattle snakes are forced to look elsewhere for your slave labor.

That said, let's get back to business

Recently I was contacted by a Lithuanian SEO agency looking to guest post on my website and willing to pay handsome $$$ for it. After some haggling the agent greed to pay more than I expected.

This is an SEO agency that usually needs plenty of content for its clients' SEO campaigns. Their agent told me they work with different webmasters and would like to have a long-term cooperation with me. I agreed, but on the condition that I write the articles myself, which means they'll pay for my writing and for guest posting. The agent agreed, but on the condition that I reach a certain monthly volume.

My website is currently charging its way to Google's first page for most keywords. If I can publish a couple dozen articles in the next three weeks, I will hit the required volume to start receiving plenty of content jobs from these guys. However, I need the service of writers to reach that volume within next month. This is where you come in.

I'm already earning from affiliate marketing, but I want to introduce new earning streams. Specifically, I'm about to join Google's Ad network and contract with the SEO agency I told you about.

I want to get into a contract with a couple writers. This is going to be a long term relationship for all of us and will pay well in the long-term. But you should expect your first pay on or before October 30th. This job is not someone who's is need of urgent cash. It is for someone who can wait until the end of October, after which your pay will come on a weekly basis (Ten naira per word).

Your first 10 writing assignments will be paid at N5/word. Then every month, I'll increase 1 naira until it reaches N10/word. But only good writers will be paid this rate. However, no writer receives below [/b]N5/word.

[b]Don't worry about getting paid
. Even my current earnings will be enough to pay you all if not because I'm running other website projects. But by October ending, I should receive enough income to pay all my writers, run my online projects, and still retain enough money to lead a comfortable life.

If you have been looking for a Nigerian client that pays well and will provide steady jobs, you just found the right opportunity. I have good intention and lots of good surprises for my writers, which I won't mention here. But one thing is certain: each and every one of you will be happy working with me.

So what are my requirements?

1. Strict adherence to instructions
2. In-depth research
3. Good grammar
4. At least 10K words monthly
5. Zero plagiarism or fluff
6. Meeting datelines
7. Fluent writing

Send your best sample (just one) to ppcasher89 @ gmail [dot] com
If I like it, you'll hear from me within the week. Despite the samples, your first job is your test. This position will pay handsomely in the long run and provide enough writing jobs for you every month.
Looks brilliant. But a few concerns:

Don’t you think you shoulda dropped something to have potential applicants trust/trace you?? company registration, social proofs/social media handles, guarantor and whatnot. Just your words, “don’t worry,” on a faceless forum may not suffice.

Turn the tables make you reason am -- how YOU see am?

Besides, how well do you trust this so-called SEO agency?

Did you try asking the SEO guys for some sort of an upfront payment ?

I’m just concerned sha, because to handle projects for one full month+ with ‘faith’ no be beans o.

Offering 10/W, some might have earned up to, averagely, say, 300k

What If the deal goes wrong? How would your faithful workers get their due wages?

Had a ‘lesson-packed’ experience. cry cry

An opinion: Given that the bulk funds isn’t readily available, how about you offer part payment (say 60%) per [agreed] milestone, per article, or periodic (Daily, weekly...etc). Then pay in arrears when your funds arrive.

This way, you gradually build a team that’ll eventually run with the big vision -- not some bunch of hungered bellies with doubtful minds.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: 40k Writing Task by Kul3ger(m):
AgentKB:
Ordinarily, I'm not supposed to respond to this post because Nairaland happens to be my number one source of client and who knows if you'll be my next client. Or my next client would stumble on this. Lol.

You mentioned that you offer an opportunity to average Nigerians who're looking to make ends meet.

This statement triggered my response to this post. Also, you said some writers are already working on this gig. To some extent, this resonates with my experience.

My first few tasks as a writer were similar to yours.

I met the guy on Facebook and he offered me seven hundred Naira per article to write forty articles of a thousand words each.

Being my first time writing, I gladly obliged and went to work immediately. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.

I worked consistently for forty-five days (one month and fifteen days to be precise). Sometimes, the topics were so difficult I'll have to read like someone preparing for a postgraduate exam (blog posts for that matter).

I had to spend my own money on data, power supply, food etc.

Due to the stress and lack of experience on my part, there was a significant drop in my , my performance and I didn't meet his expectations at all.

So, he gave me a piece of his mind, making it clear that I added almost no value to his blog. I still feel the pain of working so hard just to receive a fair share of ridicule. Although He paid me out of obligation, and not truly as a compensation for my contribution to his blog.

I felt bad and still feel bad. I wished and still wish things went a little differently than it did. But, we live to learn.

I'm sharing this story with you so that your writers don't tell the same tales about their relationship with you.

Kindly note that these people will spend heavily on data, power supply, food, back pain, eyes strain and all.
There's no way they can get that from the money you are offering them.

It will cost them much, much more to produce your content than you are offering them in return for their efforts.

On average, they'll need 300 Naira daily for data. Your compensation and can't cover that. They'll also pay Nepa bill and eat at least once a day.

While working on your content, sir, power supply may become erratic, distroying their chargers and they'll need to replace it. How can they afford that from the pay? (it happened to me).

They themselves may not know what they are getting into. I've been there. It's a terrible experience.

Not a thing I wish on anyone.

It may be best you review your offer or adjust the workload.

I can guarantee that, soon enough, your writers would start looking for better offers else where, if nothing is done to help them feel rewarded.

I'm saying this because I know.

The cost would soon start piling up and they'll realize they are paying you more than you are paying them.

Then, they'll start looking for more gig to make up for the cash leak. Their commitment to your gig would drop. They'll perform poorly at the task.

Then, they'll leave for a better paying gig. That's how it happens, always.

It's called employee turnover due to dissatisfaction.
Leave him. E wan maximize profit.

Ask him how much he paid the writer who submitted the ‘wacky words’ he threatened to publish. E sure no pass 50 kobo per word.

Bro, as bad as your experience, most likely, the naira-dolar value wasn't this distant. Sounds like a few years back. 700 was probably worth times three of its current value.

No long talk sef.

Shey him say they have resumed work already?? For him mind, him na CEO like this o. No wonder him wear shettima kind of tie and coat for him profile.

I'll not be surprised to see never-ending ads for writers from this moniker. if you like go open new account. E no de hard una. Lol

Disclaimer: If you be my prospective client, abeg no judge me based on my comments here o.

Within work environment, I uphold professional work ethics and deliver pretty decent contents. LOL.

With the bolded, it comes clearer -- I mean, your target ‘audience. Your motive(s).

You're taking advantage of those who unfortunately possibly have no means of livelihood. Not like you want to pay writers for their skills and efforts.

Whatever rocks your boat!

But my problem is how you'd treat them at the end of the day.

Before you pay them their HARD-EARNED 70 kobo, You'd most likely have ridiculed them and their generations unborn for delivering ‘wacky words’, request revisions for the umpteenth time, and delay their wage . I know your kind.

Worse, they might wake up to their deliveries rubbished on the pages of Nairaland and beyond with their phone numbers and bank details. But without mentioning how high you paid them.

Imagine “come and get something for your time”... Not for their skills?

I checked your other thread, and saw 15k monthly for DAILY news update. Omo! So, I concluded, like peak, ‘it’s in you’!

Baba, na your business o and, of course, it’s primarily for profit. But, secondarily, have a conscience.

The funny thing is that most of you that sharp mouth here can't write a complete paragraph devoid of errors yet want to earn #3 per word.

I have plenty of evidence of wacky works from most of you guys on my phone and if necessary one day I'll post it here for everyone to see.

Why should I pay you a high rate when I have to spend an additional 1 hour editing your content? Why?
First -- you pay this ridiculous thing ‘cos your initial experience wasn't cool?

So you expect flawless ready-for-delivery-grade writings from a hungry so-called writer who settles for less-than-a-naira per word?

Should we still remind you you pay a miserly 70kobo per wordhuh

If no be greed, selfishness, and wickedness de your eye, why mention 500 words for #400 here and (according to a moniker) raised the bar when contacted -- offering him #350 per article?

Worse, your eventual ‘victim’ would have to submit up to 100 tasks before payment? Bloda, Haba!!

Comedian, did you just say you would post evidence of the ‘wacky’ words delivered to you, for everyone to see?

Ogbeni, You be daft clown.

Read This-- you have no moral justification WHATSOEVER to complain over quality after such miserable thing you offer as remuneration.

You open your eye buy new designers sleeve at a boutique for #1k. You reach house discover say na cut-and-sew. Which mouth you wan take tell people say them cheat you?

OP, expectedly, biko, stop disgracing yourself. Although a faceless forum, respect your moniker and your phone number.

Asking if you should pay a high rate when you spend an hour editing is a dumb question.

Pay, at least, #3/word and bring on anyone who delivers crap. The whole Nairaland go help you demand justice.

Besides, your justification is the extra “one hour” you normally spend adjusting poorly done tasks.

The [supposedly] logical thing a sensible somebody would do is increase rates to get better quality, and automatically save time and increase turnaround.

But, no, you de find slaves to deliver quality for kobokobo.

ekems2020:
There's no history of you ever hiring anyone here....so, rest! Those who this offer is for have already resumed work.

So, take a seat. I won't promise what I can't pay. A time will come when I'll be able to pay the #2, #3, even #5 per word. Till then, I don't have your time.
you even de brag on top. So for your mind, you be ‘employer of labor’ LOL

Good luck to those that “have already resumed work”.

But, please, when they deliver [the expected crap], don't drag them in mud, and no use am disturb us here. You no go even try am sef.

Baba, your ad for a writer was way too superficial for serious writers to take serious.

This https://www.nairaland.com/7283363/expert-copy-writer-wanted right?

We all know how people come on here and put up seemingly promising ad for writers — only to end up with obnoxious rates when contacted. Few days back, we saw a hirer boasting 70kobo per word; that’s after been chided for his initial half-a-naira-per-word offer.

Bro, to capture the attention of good writers on Nairaland, be more specific about your writing needs and, IMPORTANTLY, your rates.

Besides, I wonder why it took you until your next post to mention your rate. It would have saved a lot if you mentioned this your acclaimed 50k offer in the original ad for copywriter.

Don't be this, we are in this journey together
Comrade, nobody with a working conscience can be with you in this your journey.

So, imagine using all needed resources - time, brainwork, data, fuel/whatever- to research, write, edit, proofread, optimize and deliver a 1000-word article. Then, all he gets is #700 — I mean, less than $1

Worse, it looks like a ghostwriting offer. So, he(your eventual ‘slave’) wouldn’t [at least] get credit for his unique work. You pay him off and claim all the glory; for a cost worth less than a liter of kerosene.

Doctorpen, how you reason that kain wickedness? Talk true
