Hi Seyibrown poster, I was checking threads on how to go about solving an issue I have with regarding date of birth error on my waec cert and saw your comment on there about you being successful! Please what should I do?! The YOB on my cert reads 1985 instead of 1986! How did you resolve yours? was it a student visa you applied for? Pls I need you advice urgently. Sorry to go all viral on your posts!...... |

@ Ustwise, I am pondering submitting my certificate to waec for correction and going to the uk embassy with an online print-out and a letter from waec stating the dob on the cert is being corrected and that's why I don't have it with me. I just want to avoid the cert being impounded by the ECO |
@justwise, I know this is on asylum bt I jst wanted a general ukba view documents that are suspect |
Thanks Justwise, Just stumbled on this on the UKBA site... http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/policyandlaw/asylumprocessguidance/specialcases/guidance/assessing-age?view=Binary check this out: 6.4 Authenticity of documents An applicant may state that documentary evidence showing them to be an adult is in error, or was obtained fraudulently through the use of forged documents, bribery or other means. Officers should also take into account the possibility that an applicant has been provided with documents, including travel documents, by an agent or trafficker. For instance applicants may have given incorrect information about their age on visa applications in order to facilitate their exit (for further guidance refer to the Victims of Trafficking: guidance for frontline staff AI). In this event, the applicant should be questioned with regard to the following, non-exhaustive list of considerations: • When was the document issued and by whom? • What evidence was needed to obtain the document? (e.g. birth certificate needed for a passport?); • Was the applicant required to sign a declaration confirming correct details? • Has the applicant reported the error to the issuing authority? (When and with what outcome?); • Has the applicant used the document? (e.g. by travelling on a passport containing an error, travelling through a third country, or using a birth certificate to obtain other documents/benefits?); • Were any officials bribed to obtain the document? • The country situation, objective evidence of strict procedures, and the consequent likelihood of the applicant’s claims being true. |
The problem is if we know of anyone that an affidavit has worked for. Dunno why people with that particular problem never come back on here to fill us in on how it went. I know if you go there without anything to point to the error, and they do find out, one will be banned for 10 years. Whether the same fate would be suffered by another person with documents to point it out is now the question. I have read people who went with an affidavit but didnt come back to let us know how it went. |
*Sighs* |
Thx Justwise fro the response. The thing is I already supplied these schools with the info on the passport. Wld it not be a problem applying for the visa with a different passport? The mistake on the waec cert has to do with my year of birth, not the name. It reads 1985 instead of 1986. |
@Justwise, u must know say I don dey find u about o. Gr8 job u'r doing; keep it up I applied to some UK schools and have been give Conditional offer letters to study Petroleum and Gas Engineering(MSc) at Salford Uni, Subsea Engineering at Strathclyde and Cranfield Unis (Most other Unis in the UK don't take 2:2 for related courses). The issues I need advice on are these: -My passport expires next january and I need to apply for a Tier4 visa now. Can I use the passport even though it expires soon or should I go for another passport? - The year of birth on my WAEC certificate is 1985 instead of 1986, everything else is correct. I had been using my statement of result since 2001 and just went to my school in Osun state from Abuja for my cert last week when I got to know this. I was at the WAEC office here in Abuja two days after ago I got back but I was verbally referred to the Ibadan zonal office (I was told my school was grouped under that zone). I read on some other threads on here that it takes a minimum of 3months and max of 6months to have another one issued by WAEC. I surfed the Internet and got the supposed phone numbers of the Ibadan office but realized they were now defunct, so I set out to go there. I was at the Ibadan zonal office yesterday morning only to not be allowed in because nobody would see me until May 21- SSCE exam was going on and all the officials were now busy at the various exam centers! I was not even allowed in (TWATS, THE LOT OF THEM)!! The problem is I want to make sure all the things presented to the school for admission would be the exact same things presented to the UK embassy officials. To receive my UNconditional offer letter, the WAEC result should be one of the documents to present (to show I have C6 or above in English Language). PLEASE WAITING FOR WAEC TO ISSUE ANOTHER RESULT IS NO MORE AN OPTION(EXCEPT IT'S POSSIBLE TO HAVE ANOTHER ISSUE IN A MONTH'S TIME MAXIMUM) WOULD AN AFFIDAVIT ALONE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE OR MUST I HAVE ANOTHER LETTER FROM WAEC TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEY KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE AND ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE IT? HAS ANYONE HERE EVER APPLIED FOR A UK VISA USING A QUESTIONABLE WAEC CERT BACKED UP WITH AN AFFIDAVIT/LETTER FROM WAEC OFFICE AND GOTTEN THE VISA? WHAT SHOULD I DO? WHAT WOULD STAND ME IN GOOD STEAD?? |
Hi goody06, I really didn't quite catch dat "you will get same date with a token" bit; could you xplain? |
@goody06, thanks a lot. The issue is I don't get to request for an acknowledgement before May21 because they wouldn't attend to me yesterday because waec is on till May17 and the officials don't get back before May 21- this is slowing me down. I work as well so it's not that easy moving from Abuja down to the south-west all the time. Thanks all the same. |
@ Monkvirus, The post is not on any scholarship. It's regarding a mistake on my WAEC certificate for my admission to universities in the UK |

Dears, I plan to apply for my visa later this month or early next month. The issue is with the mistake (1985 instead of 1986) in my year of birth on my WAEC cert that I just collected last week ( I had been using my statement of result since 2001!). Please, I schooled in Osun state but I work in Abuja now. I was at the Abuja WAEC office today where I was referred to the Ibadan zonal office because my school is grouped under that "zone". I simply can not start to lobby for a new one now as it's almost too late; what with the "3month minimum and 6months max" time frame for a new one to be issued. Please I need your very honest opinions on here as I have learnt issues regarding integrity of documents, particularly those pertaining to date of birth, are very crucial to one's chances. What should I do? Swear an affidavit? Get a letter from WAEC?(doubtful of its credibility) Ignore it? Please what is my best bet? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks! |
Thank you very much, Solomon. |
Ok. I have tried Strathclyde and lsbu. Shld start Salford application today. I must admit I realy am nt down with the lsbu ranking, mate; too low! Bt an olodo like me isn't actually in a position to b picky. I wIsh I cld get more petroleum/subsea/offshore engineering options that admit olodos with a 2:2! Thanks a lot, mate- appreciated. |
@Solomon, you just are the best, mate! It's really hard for an olodo like me...lol. So which one(s) exactly have you settled for? Do you think it's worth it going to all these consultants for them to handle your applications? What do you know about US schools? Would a good GRE score stand you in better stead with these US schools, despite the fact you have a 2:2 degree or one shouldn't even start to bother? Plssssss come back and replyyyy!! Thank you |
Sojimarsh, let's rub heads o. I am already thinking of contacting one of these moneygrubbers of consulants as I don tire for this 2:2 ish, and it's not all about getting just ANY school abroad. |
@Jay bee, For Cranfield: After successfully completing this(pre-master's) course, students can choose one of the following postgraduate courses offered by our School of Engineering or School of Applied Sciences: Aerospace Vehicle Design (with options in Aircraft Design, Avionic Systems Design and Structural Design) Aerospace Dynamics (with options in Aerodynamics and Flight Dynamics) Computational Fluid Mechanics Astronautics and Space Engineering Thermal Power (with options in Aerospace Propulsion; Gas Turbine Technology; Power, Propulsion and the Environment; Rotating Machinery, Engineering and Management) Design of Rotating Machines Automotive Product Engineering Motorsport Engineering and Management Offshore and Ocean Technology Process Systems Engineering (with options in Energy Systems and Thermal Processes; Process Systems Technology) Ultra Precision Technologies Welding Engineering Advanced Materials To be frankhe options obtainable post pre-master's don't quite suit me. For RGU, though, they accept 2:2 from other countries, BUT not frm Nigeria as categorically stated on the website: Subsea Engrng; Applicants should have an Honours degree in Engineering or related discipline at level 2.2 or above and typically at least one year's relevant industrial experience. However those with other qualifications but with considerable appropriate relevant industrial experience may be considered. Students from Nigeria should have a 2:1 or above in Engineering or a related discipline from a Federal University. Students whose first language is not English should hold IELTS 6.5 before commencing study. Oil and Gas Engrng; Applicants must have a good Honours degree from a UK University or an overseas equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related discipline. Those with other qualifications, but with considerable appropriate industrial experience, may be considered. Students from Nigeria should have a 2:1 or above in Engineering or a related discipline from a Federal University. All international students for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course. Pet Engrg; Applicants should have a good Honours degree in Engineering or closely related discipline and at least 2 years practical industrial experience relevant to Production Engineering. Exceptionally, candidates who have a relevant HND level qualification together with extensive Production Engineering experience may, at the University's discretion, be considered. |
Hi All, I have seen this thread was started in 1893!, lol. Pls I need to know if it's advisable to take the GRE and TOEFL if you have a 2:2 degree? Most schools wouldn't accept your application if you're like myself. I jst don't want it to be a waste of time, space, and effort!! Pls reply to this. |
@ Jay Bee. Did you say lazy?!! I have applied to Dalhousie, Uof A, UCal, uni of Regina, Memorial University in Canada. I got to talk to an admissions officer each time and those pple were very curt during correspondence making me think Master's abroad aint for 2:2 @ all. In the UK I av tried Newcastle(where I was referred to their agent here in Naija), Aberdeen, HW, Cranfield, some I can't even remember! I tried NTNU and Stavanger in Norway as well. I am everything but lazy, mate, even with a job dat takes 12hrs+ of my time daily + weekend sometimes |
tanimola22:I was actually referring to the educational agencies here in Naija, not the Gubkin folks. I have a 2;2 class of degree and would like to know which considerably good schools would accept someone like myself, or rather, would have a Pre-master's/Qualifying degree(as it is known by in Canada) program to boost my CGPA (3.14/5.0). I will definitely try the Gubkin one, bt won't take a foolhardy approach by trying ONLY that option; I want others in the UK, Canada or Norway as well. |
Obviously I'm still trying to learn to post on here, ![]() |

Hi Sagamite, I really would love to hear your opinion on my case. I have a lower division 2nd class in Chem Engr and I tried all the Canadian schools for MSc in Petroleum/Offshore Engineering but they don't take my "kind", sadly. I have since turned my attention to the UK and which schools would you advise I try? I've got between 15k-20k budgeted. Pls note that the main issue is my 2:2, and bear in mind I would only take a pre-master's as a lost resort. You always seem to give valuable info, you know, like a sage watching from the backstage. Kind regards. |
@Sojimarsh, I see we're facing the same predicament! I also majored in Chem Engr with a 2:2 (3.14 CGPA)!! |
