I see only new names on here! Been a while; first semester definitely had me playing "catch-up" all through! Thank God exams are over. The only ever-present "denominator" name on here's still going strong, though.....and that's you Justwise! God bless you real good for still keeping it real!! |
Apple checkout "www.concordia.ca" they've been looking for you!! Hope I helped!
Are you sure they've been looking for him? As far as I'm concerned 2:2 is a no-no in Canada. Trust me, I tried my best, even with my brother being a National there. I'm now in the UK, though. You should prolly let him try, but make sure you've got insurance, just in case. Goodluck! |
samsumgsapple: I finished with a 2ndclass lower 3.47 cgpa and I wanna do a master in Engineering management or Master in information systems security in Canada,Pls any idea of Schools I shud try??Hi, I really do not know much about management courses over there. I'm in the UK. Maybe you can find posts by folks in Canada? or what do you think? |
Atlantis85: oops i was thinking more about cash back just for petty change not using cash back as a back door bureau de change.lol ... peeps trying to bypass/reduce the excessive bank charges that come with transferring funds from ur Naija a/c to ur UK acctount |
Atlantis85: I use a GTB Naira Mastercard as well.No chargeg over the normal 1k. The 1k is the equivalent of the 100 naira charged back home for using 'other atms'.Thanks guy, I sabi wetin "cash back" be, just never thought of using that avenue to "make withdrawals". Yh, I see whenever I make purchases with my card that they usually deduct much less than the going "black market" exchange rates, but I think the banks here use the same rates as well when you check your balance using the ATM. |
penfold: Laffs...What I mean is that some Banks, back in Nigeria, charge their customers for the issuance of a Mastercard on their account,First Bank for example normally issues a Verve card free of charge, but if you request for a Mastercard I think they charge a fee of 2K NGN annually.I use my GTB Naira Mastercard here and thought they charged fees over the normal 1k from your previous post. Do you know if there's cap on the "cash back" thingy? |
penfold: The maximum you can withdraw with a Mastercard in a day(first bank or others) is 1000GBP they'll charge you 4GBP for the withdrawal in addition to your standard ATM charges from your issuer, Now,my advice based on personal experience, instead of using a cash machine, just buy what you want in a store and pay with d mastercard, its easy and there are no charges,if you need cash, simply ask them for 'cash back' they will give you the cash you need and add it to your purchases and debit you for the total amount. No charges, fast easy and convenient.O thou brainy Penfold! Never thought of this mehn. My next move Clarification on the bold part needed, though. Thanks!! |
ikcbn: First, I must praise d name of The Almighty God who made it possible and a very big tank u 2 everyone on this thread who has in one way or the oda contributed and guided all tru d visa app process. To crown it all, i write 2 inform u all dat i jst pick up my entry clearance and would definitely b heading 2 sheffield by weekend via manchester frm Lagos....08037951518 hook me up if u intend flying by weekend. It was about time you got your sef....too much talk. Congrats! |
Crazy stuff here! I never even start schoolwork wey I no dey get time for anything again, not even food! (although junk can be picked up @ every turn, which quite explains why it's not easy to not be fat) @Don, why you no do your shopping for where you dey go? Things are quite expensive in London if you don't know the places to go yet. Meanwhile, posts on here keep sprawling all over the place! |
penfold: JustWise..Dharkchild.....DonXavier.....FutureDon......Charles E.......Steph.....active and ghost members of this forum.....you've demonstrated that there is Hope for this country.....Through Sound leadership we were all able to rally round each other...adhering to instructions, obeying the unwritten rules...we kept ourselves off from the taint of scams and insults...we helped ourselves to achieve our goals....Thank You All, got my Visa now now!!Like you were ever in any danger of not getting it...congrats mate. |
Donxavier: Is rebtel an application? I think I will go with your suggestion. And on which kind of phone?Yup. It's installed on your phone and you ring them up or visit their website to create an account which is credited on an as-you-want basis. when you try to make any call from your mobile, you get a prompt to specify if you want to use your Rebtel account. Lebara network isn't so good from what I have seen jare; voice calls not clear, na 'ehn? ehn??' all the time . I may change to another network. |
penfold: Its good that you notified them immediately, its not unusual for them to make that sort of mistake (although not often), happened last year and if i remember correctly it was corrected within 5 days, inform your school so that u can get an extension for enrolment and keep your phone open cuz its very likely that they'll call you up on phone just to clarify your course duration (even though its stated in your CAS and they know they are d ones that made d mistake)Ogbeni, chill nah... ...just believe. All is well. WOuld like to associate a face to each 'friend' I have made on here. I leave London for school tomorrow. All the best, guys. I think we can round a good percentage(about 80%) of all that got advice on here prior to their application submission and who eventually 'made it'! Cheers. |
Donxavier: The p qouted is what? Is it pounds or pence?Pence is referred to as "p" here. My brother here got me on contract with T-mobile for local calls, and arranged Lebara for Naija calls.... but having Rebtel installed on your phone and creating an account is better than all of them, as I have seen. It's about 4p per min to Naija, and even free for Rebtel to Rebtel calls! |
honey86: Did u take foodstuffs with u?, and how was the iberia flight.Yes, I took foodstuff with me: ground pepper, Garri, Indomie(1 carton each of 120g and the smaller gram packs), suya pepper, beans, knorr maggi, powdered milk, groundnut, Ogbono, etc. The Iberia flight was OK. You don't get to wait long in transit. I got to Madrid around 3AM naija time(4AM madrid time) so I only got to wait about 2 and a half hrs to board the 2-hr flight @6:30 to London. Cheers |
Donxavier: Kini won bere lowo re gangan?Lol. He got my finger prints, checked my CAS letter.... asked a few questions about why I'm doing the course, and the address of the school, and if I was doing it because I knew one "minister" promising me a job after.. Then he went "abi o ro boya mi o mo ni?" |
Loriante: That is perfect.. I should meet you there. I am enrolling to school of Humanities ..Hi, I got to London this morning and will be in Salford next week! See you!! |
Dharkchild: Safe trip bro. All the bestSo I am here and it's a nice feeling! It was all hassle free.... it's quite easy when you transit. Tthe UKBA guy that questioned me was a Nigerian and he was quite friendly. He even questioned me in Yoruba!! I went to him coz I saw he was black. Word is they get strict with student on direct flights from Nigeria. I was surprised too until someone told me it's like that with flights from Europe. I may be wrong, though. Cheers... |
Loriante: I am heading to University of Salford,Greater Manchester..I am also heading to Salford! All the while you never mentioned your school, I think.... |
So I leave tonight....goodluck to everyone coming. Anything else I should be wary of? I'll transit in Madrid. |
kdavis: Thanks, but I dnt think I can wait 8hours in quatar or dubai. Went to d airpot yesterday, its like d whole lagos ws there! LUCKILY I was able to get a ticket on Iberia wit stop over n mardrid (5hours),no quarms sha.Same thing I did, but I will travel this Friday. I paid 132k or thereabout |
Cavenchy: How's everyone doing on here, i knw i've been off a while but settling in isn't quite easy, well thanks to God i'm almost set for studies here in the uk. @Justwise I think your nairaland name should be Just-Great. S/O to all who've recently got their visas and all my other folks helping out with advice.I was wondering where you disappeared to o. We'll be with you this weekend by God's grace. On a side note, should one get a jacket from here or wait till one gets there. I don't want to get off the plane and freeze o.... ![]() |
jantil: Am grateful to God Almighty for makin it possible for me to testify on Nairaland. I finally got my Visa today. I submited 9th August in Abj. Thks to the originator of naira Seun 4 givin us a platform whr our drms can come thru, big thanks to Justwise for alwz takin d pain to giv answers to any question, I can nt also forget Darkchild, Kunlewoye, in fact d list is end less. penfold: If I'm not mistaken, its like u're planning to fly Iberia to Madrid, then BA to heathrow!!Thanks mate, but Iberia and BA are owned by IAG and they have this merger thingy going on. No, I booked it on the BA website and it said, at the time, that I would fly Iberia to Madrid, then BA to Heathrow. I'm sure there's no problem |
err...anyone going on the 7th using Iberia/British Airways? |
Donxavier: Yes FinallyHey you! you were never in any "danger" of not getting it now, were you?!! I have been off for a while as I have been very busy with handing-over and crossing the t's at work but I have been reading the posts. Not one person deserves it more than you. Congrats! Pack thy bags and, while you're at it, book thy flight, too!!! ![]() |
yemann: Hello, I have a problem regarding my uk visa.i wasn't aware of the new increased maintenance funds, so I already prepared for the previous funds and by the time I got to know it was late doe I added more money to my account and also called up my school to ask for an extention. And I am given the grace till 30th of september but the problem is the counting till 28days which will be complete on the 23rd of september. I don't know what to do. Pls advise me. eezeebone: If it's within your power, you can pay some of the fees. You'd be able to bring down the amount you would be required to show to the ECO. You can then request for a new CAS from the University which will be quicker to get that waiting 28 days for the statement. You should go with @eezeebone's advice. The only snag I envisage is how do you pay part of your maintenance fees to your Tier4 sponsor? It's better if you have part of your tuition fees still to be paid or if you can also try to deposit 1k toward accommodation (not more than 1k as UKBA will not deduct more than this from the money you need to show for maintenance). I hope you understand. Best wishes. |
Donxavier: Guy, why you wan take risk now. You never hear say dem dey steal things inside luggageNo P bro... ![]() |
Donxavier: Yes. It happened at schipol. He was enroute to London.Bt what if you have it in your luggage? Do they scan one's luggage for cash? Or it's only the one on you they're concerned about? |
Donxavier: It is NOT advisable. They will seize the excess money. So unless you have plenty money to dash immigration, you can go with more than €10000. That's what happened to a cousin of mine. Was this cousin of yours a student? |
Roke93: Yipee. I applied on d 1st of August and dey jst notified me 2 cum 4 collectionK, we're waiting. Donxavier: CongratsShe neva collect nah |
Is it advisable for one to carry cash(equivalent of more than 10,000Euros) to the UK in order to open a UK account thereby avoiding all the excessive bank Int'l transfer charges? I know one has to declare this by filling a certain form. Has anyone been here before? |
justwise: No.Thanks! Had to read extensively on that. Meanwhile, is it advisable for one to carry cash(equivalent of more than 10,000Euros) to the UK in order to open a UK account thereby avoiding all the excessive bank Int'l transfer charges? ... peeps trying to bypass/reduce the excessive bank charges that come with transferring funds from ur Naija a/c to ur UK acctount
. I may change to another network.
.. Anyway, I don't know about putting it in your luggage. But if it's in your hand luggage and they catch you with excess, you are on your own.
