meine: Some of us are way over our head and paranoid!
I am disappointed at how most of you have given up,where is your Nigerian spirit and the never say die attitude?
In less than 90 days all these noise will die down, time they say heal wounds, lets just pray we dont have recurrence of such! Nobody is talking about the positive step that Umar snr took by reporting to the US embassy simply because Negative news sells more but trust me the media will get tired pretty soon and you will be fed with another distraction.
I have studied our situation properly, trust me guys, Nigeria is too powerful than how you people see it,our major challenge is bad leadership! As at today Nigeria is the biggest trading partner with america in sub saharan africa, Nigeria supplies 11% of america's oil,so you think they will just shut down all these? Fighting a west african superpower, and a population of 168 million is not a task anybody will want to contemplate for now so forget about US nuking the country.
Travelling rule will change for everybody but its not as if the US has been liberal with its visa policies in Nigeria in the recent past.
It will take the citizen of another non-islamic country attempting thesame thing for all of you to know that this issue is beyond Nigeria or no NIgeria,
May God Help us all. Another speaker of my mind. Please, also tell them that the British Govt will still continue to accept more PTDF scholars to maintain their revenue. For the rest of you, you better don't kill yourselves with hypertension. Continue to enjoy your life. |

Rastamann: It will have any impact on Nigeria that is different from what Nigerians have been experiencing over time. Even before Farouk's incidence, how many Nigerians are given travel visas in Nigeria? Nigerians were always harassed and humiliated at international airports when they travel. Farouk's father did the right thing by informing the USA and her security forces on time, so they are to be blamed for not taking the necesary precaution against this guy. Though its a pity the guy was a Nigerian national, It could have been anybody from any country in the world including USA. Terrorists are every where and so security agents should be at alert at all times. You meant to say it will not. You spoke my mind.I don't know why they are disturbing themselves. I know it'll probably take a while for everyone to get over it. |

I WONDER WHY YOU GUYS AND GALS ARE BURYING YOURSELVES BEFORE YOU DIE. RULES ARE GOING TO BE CHANGED ALRIGHT BUT YOU GUYS ARE TAKING THINGS TOO FAR. NIGERIANS WILL STILL TRAVEL FREELY TO THE US AND UK AMIDST THE NEWLY IMPROVED SECURITY SCREENING WHICH IS NOT MAENT FOR ONLY NIGERIANS ANYWAY.
THOSE OF YOU GOING TO SCHOOL ABROAD, YOU WILL STILL BE ISSUED VISA.JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ALL THE NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS. A WORD OF ADVICE TO YOU IS TO PREPARE A LETTER THAT STATES WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR PRIMARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL.THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT TO DO ANYTHING HERE ABROAD VERY VERY SOON.IF YOU ARE ABLE TO PROVE THIS,I ASSURE YOU THAT YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
IT MIGHT INTEREST YOU TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE PAKISTAN NATIONALS AND A HOST NUMBER OF PEOPLE FROM THE MIDDLE EAST HERE DOING FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL JOBS SO STOP BURYING YOURSELVES ALIVE.

Politics › Re: Do You Think Umar's Attempt To Bomb A Plane Is A Result Of His Upbringing by kvolander: 11:43pm On Dec 29, 2009 |
GL: NO! I don't think his action is reflective of his upbringing in anyway. i don't know why people like to think rich people's kids are worse than poor people's kids.
it's not 50/50 anything. a terrorist doesn't need to be from a wealthy family as there is enough financial backing from the terrorist groups. i don't even buy the story that loneliness led him to this. we are not like white people who do silly things when they are lonely. when we are lonely we spend and party. the guy had so much money so he could have had lots of friends, plus there are loads of nigerians in london, muslim nigerians too. it makes more sense that a nigerian with so much money would try to buy happiness with money not death. @GL, I think you are speaking from the point of view of the kind of person you are. I don't know if you are an outgoing person. More evidence have emerged that this guy is an introvert which confirms that he's been lonely for a while. Yeah, he had the resources to make more friends and go partying but I put it to you that you will hardly see a dedicated muslim doing all those stuffs. I worked with one recently who is from morocco. This guy allowed his loneliness to degenerate into a chronic state and gave the devil a chance. On the side of his parents, I personally think they acted too late. According to the father, he discovered the extremist behaviour in his sec. sch days and still sent him over to the UK to study where I believe they must have just left with the hope that all is well. I'm also sure he must have known about the group his son joined while in UCL. The father got the signal early but acted too late. - 50% The guy is just a coward who lacks self-control and could not handle his loneliness. - 50% |

I think it's 50/50.
From one angle, his financial capability enhanced his international mobility and unnecessary freedom.
On the other hand, he should have let himself out more when he was lonely. This is surely what lonely people pass through most times. HIS STORY IS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF THE STATEMENT 'AN IDLE MIND IS THE DEVIL'S WORKSHOP' |

Osama and his cohorts, should have carried these bombs first, and let these boys see how they died, before brainwashing these boys, and sometimes women. Let them die first , and these boys will emulate them, rather than being cowards, and sending morons to do the jobs for them. Abeg, anybody with any idea how much this Nigerian slowpoke was paid? Abi, was he to die for free? @Oboma1 He was meant to get the reward of meeting the 72 virgins on the other side of this world but unfortunately he will be getting maybe 72 strokes of whatever punishment awaits him. I can't just stop laughing on some1's post about this guy being a fool. With all he had access to, like the best cars, expensive houses, and even all the NICE BABES; HE RATHER PREFERRED VIRTUAL VIRGINS. THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE WILL HAPPEN ACCORDING TO ONE OF THE COMMENTS I READ AFTER THE NEWS. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME.
FELLOW NIGERIANS,BELIEVE IT OR NOT,IT IS THE WILL OF MY FATHER IN HEAVEN(JEHOVAH EL-SHADDAI)THAT WILL BE DONE OVER THIS NATION,BUT EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED,BECAUSE GOD WANT TO TAKE OVER THE REIGN OF THIS NATION,HOW I CANT SAY,BUT BE VERY SURE,GOD IS IN CONTROL,LET THEM CONTINUE THEIR EVIL PLANS,BECAUSE IF THEIR PLAN IS NOT THE WILL OF GOD IT WILL SURELY FAIL,BUT IF IT IS GOD WISH,NOBODY CAN STOP IT.BUT GOD IS ABT TO MOVE CONCERNING THIS NATION,IT ALREADY SETTLED IN THE SPIRIT,WE ARE ONLY WAITING FOR THE PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION HERE ON EARTH.GOD WILL SURELY REIGN.REMAIN BLESSED |

ebere1712: Guys it is simple. This one about a Nigerian guy spending time in toilet is simply profiling. The guy shouldn't let them get away with it. Look at it this way, their have been many people that come from other countries that commit acts of terrorism yet no body labels all their nationalities terrorists. This guy (the slowpoke bomber) doesn't even identify with our Nigerian culture. He is Nigerian and so bleeping what. Majority of Nigerians are trying to fend off militancy, violence and terrorism. We are also trying to remove extremist elements from within us, just like the americans are trying to do. For any nicompu to turn around and call me a terrorist would attract an equal proportion of retaliation. Maybe this guy that was deemed verbally abusive was just defending himself from hostilities. Don't take the poo and they would be more cautious before accussing another Nigerian next time. Yesteday's incident doesn't give anybody the right to associate Nigerians with terrorism. So guys don't throw away your passports in shame (as I have heard so many folks here say they would), you would just confirm to yourself and onlookers that you are a terrorist. I didn't do anything wrong, and I expect to be treated with respect. So guys stay strong. You spoke my mind guy and will also advise you all to read these especially those of you here in Europe and in the US. But when defending yourself, try not to blow out of proportion 'as in not become violent' but be assertive. |

@poster,
I stayed in similar kind of area when I was in the university,
Firstly,I want u to know that those guys are very much likely to be involved in some kind of criminal acts (e.g. armed robbery) so don't be surprised if you received the police someday at your door for investigation.
Secondly, I would advise you wisely mind your own business otherwise start thinking of moving away from there.
Thirdly, Don't even bother reporting to the police because you may get yourself into more trouble.
And fourthly, try to get information about the next place you are moving to, if you eventually choose to move away from your current location.
Hope this helps.
God bless you. |

Pls am scheduled to do an exam that has to do with chemical/ process engineering - mainly bachelors degree level and mainly calculations. I studied materials engineering for my bachelors anyway.
Could anyone help me with materials to prepare for this exam. possibly downloadable materials. Thanks I'm a chemical engrg graduate from UNIBEN.I'll advise you look for any UNIBEN chem engrg student and ask for PROCESS CALCULATION By Prof. T.O.K AUDU. It'll be very helpful for quick revision. It's not a handout but a textbook. Goodluck |

Shinatu: Kvolander,
The driller will also have to deal with these uncertainties you know?, let me leave Dr F to give insight into how chalenging drilling can be, someone already mentioned the great technicalities involved in Directional drilling . I do not know much about the IWCF certification.
You can work in the Exploration,Appraisal and Development stage of oil and gas production as any of the PE functions i.e Petrophysicist- Aquisition and interpretation of logs(NMR,GR,Res,Sonic etc). Res Engineer- Reservoir modellling thru Material balance-characterisation of Reservoir i.e drive mechanism, Fluid composition thru PVT analysis. Reserves Estimation-Volumetrics, Well testing Production Technologist-Well completions,Well operating envelops, Well production Optimisation,Artificial lifting thru gaslift or pumps, General Well surveillance for sub-optimal well performance.
I am sure you touched many of these areas in your Msc programme. @shinatu Thanks for the info. We touched all those areas you mentioned including the economic analysis aspect. |

God, I'm in love with this thread. Please, let's keep it alive and also include some little info on other petroleum engineering aspects. I have an MSc in PE from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland although I'm yet to clinch that oil job. During the program, the drilling course was really interesting although I still prefer Reservoir Engineering coz of my chemical engineering background. I don't think drilling is as challenging as reservoir engineering coz of the great deal of uncertainty in the latter.
To my experienced guys, please, do you think getting the IWCF certificate would greatly enhance my chances of getting a job quickly eventhough the drilling course covered virtually everything? I don't have any previous experience except my Internship in SHELL in 2005 where I worked majorly as a trainee P-Tech.
Dr Ferlie and co.,if I were to be employed by any of the companies you guys work now, what do you think will be expected from me, considering my qualification?
Thanks in anticipation for your reply. |
