@ladej, sorry dont get me wrong, i sincerely respect Gani, he was indeed a great man with lots of accolade ( tho mostly local) but same goes for aunty Dora- last time she granted an interview to CNN abi one foreign press in her office at NAFDAC she showed cased her awards -mehn the were over 200 from different and very reputable, international, world bodies, UN, WORLD BANK, UNICEF, WFP, WWF,

Now, if someone could turn around and ask what has aunty Dora achieved?
then the question can also be rightfully turned around and pointed to Gani's record. Gani in as much as he achieved a lot for himself that can not be said of the country, probably becos he was never in a position to serve directly.

Anyway, the point im trying to make on this is that in that country of ours we find it very easy to vilify and belittle achievement of others nt in our circle. That is very evident in our Music awards; u see a very popular song in the east not getting even the slightest of recognition while a song sang head to toe in Yoruba, hasnt even been heard in bubbly places like Ptown, gathering it all.

even accomplished artistes like psquare still get the treatment. last time their manager stormed out of Nigerian Hiphop Awards fuming with what he called "Yorubaization of achievement, the even went forward to suggest the award should be changed to YORUBA HIPHOP AWARDS!
glad to hear you respect game when you see it.no stress. in a way he DID serve nigeria. do you know gani fawehinmi chambers is the largest in nigeria and they were responsible for a monthly review to all the states in nigeria? dude we need to get away from these tribal and ethnic cheap points. why cant gani and dora be given kudos, albeit for different reasons? you must surely know by now all award shows worldwide are politicised. in the US greats like 2pac and biggie never won the grammy while will smith won [clearly not as talented as the aforementioned 2]. whos to say psquare wont win next year? on the topic of psquare those blessed twins make the most and charge the most across africa for their shows. they are already highly successful and im sure the awards will roll in as well. im a detribalised nigerian. i got to mix with every one in my secondary school and that experience is still with me today. besides im about the future not the past. cant we all just get along? i dont have to choose between achebe and soyinka, they are both great. why cant i choose both or choose neither? ehn. why?

^^ Do we all have to be politicians? I mean I know there is this general idea that anyone who wants to fix Nigeria ought to run for office but I don't really by into that in anyway. I just saw two TV comedians ( I call them that because that is what they are to me) help change the political tone in America this fall and they did not have to sign up as politicians to get that done(talking of the guy on the Daily Show, and the other one, Steven Colbert). grin

I believe we need many more people to help hold our Government accountable and put it in check, not more politicians, many of whom have yet to show they really care about the people. If we had more Ganis, more Soyinkas on the outside beating down on government, we would have something resembling improvement by now. Problem is the minute they are welcomed into the political pa lour, many Nigerians turn into sycophants/arse kissers. And then you loose the number game and find the critics go back to being the minority in the equation. Do you think that if many more people made demands on their government, we would have what we have today?
dont keep a good man waiting, been waiting for your response grin.nope we dont all have to be politicians, we all have a part in nation building though. your post is 100% spot on. i really really admire people like gani. he walked the walked and talked the talked ALL his life. intentionally he refused to serve any government as he didnt want to be compromised, ala tai solarin of the people's bank fame, who IBB set up to smear his name.very logical post

@kobo, just an observation, I presume you re Yoruba, right? Why are u so keen on belittling every achievement or aspiration of an igbo.
Last thread was Enugu Taxis, now aunty Dora, last time emegwali. How is bankole performing? is there nothing to say about his performance ?
Do u also realise that all your present good for nothing yoruba senators that has not sponsored any meaningful bill as at date, emblezed national funds, supported bankole's muscled-thru-bill on unconstitutional and selfish returning themselves as their party's NEC delegate, are all going for re-election? What's their Achievement?
And don't give the excuse of;there is no thread on that, A concern queen kobojunkie, who doesn't accept half-measure, the best or nothing, 2nd is same as last, the least you could do is to start a thread on it and show your unbias, de-tribal stands.

from the posts i have read from her she equally criticises bad governance. cant say ive noticed a trend on this being based on ibos only. she has been a critique of OBJ as well as our northern counterparts. bad governance is bad governance regardless of the ethnicity of the culprit.

Traditionally only doctors, and professors in medical field get the Ministry of Information seat or Senate seat? Which one?

The polls start right here . . we do not have to wait till the day of election to start convincing those around us(both online and offline) to vote with their heads and not their hearts(bias) as has been the case more times than not. The internet, even those forum is a medium through which you can convince people of who to vote or not vote for. If you truly believe you are with me on the bolded, then may I ask you start here by showing it, not giving me this back and forth that sounds more like you are trying to play on both sides of this, Nigerian style. undecided I am not saying my side if right but dude, it is not clear what you even mean anymore.

^^^ You should go see her wikipage, it has been updated with so so many new records . . . I mean, we will probably not be able to verify any just that I find it hard to believe that anyone with such an extensive record as manager of various groups can come up with nothing as Minister of information for two solid years. lol

Tell me that does not look like Wonder woman's resume http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dora_Akunyili shocked

Check the post archives here to see how many changes have been made to that page since December 2008. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dora_Akunyili&action=history
i was referring to minister of health. i believe ive been clear on my stance, and i have also embraced some of yours along the way. one of the challenges she had as information minister was being out of the loop. how can you be an effective minister of information when the inner caucus dont regard you as one of them? case in point was the yar adua saga. secondly the rebranding thing was a mess. she pissed me off on that one, part blaming diasporans etc. that said she has reached a level in life where its relatively easy to bounce from post to post. i believe she still has something to offer, all things being equal. question though, will you ever consider running for office in nigeria[ jeez thats a topic right there to discuss on]?

She can’t get health because Doctors? Now you have completely lost me.
She campaigned for a ministerial position, and she got it. She bombed at it and we know the excuse offered. But we know she tried something else and she bombed at it. She is now trying something else, why are we not seeing people using the same old excuse?Do not give me that the “whole world is messed up and so we can continue to mess it up even more” schpeel ! I thought we have been trying to get things right, not sit and $hit some more on it. shocked
I know of the many incompetent ministers we have, I have been on the records of many of them for a while now, and this one happens to be latest promotion from failure example that we are getting. Remember, God spared us from the last by having Jonathan fire them all. Problem is, he chose to recycle one of the least qualified of the most inactive. The last minister of education did next to nothing but I was glad to see that one dropped - Same with ministers from other areas.
I don’t know about you but some of us actually want an end to this shame, and abuse, at least for our children’s sake.
i havent lost you, u have refused to be found. grin. traditionally only DOCTORS and professors of medicine get the role, not just in nigeria. you will find this is the case in most countries. on the bolded im with you on that one. we have to do it at the polls though, make that vote count

Well, she also did have a constitutional right to campaign for the last position -- she got it but the cry was she was a square-pet-in-round-hole. You mentioned in your earlier post something about her not getting Health, and I took that to mean you probably thought she would have done better if she was made Minister of Health, so I am asking here why you are not mentioned HEALTH in relation to this present job she is campaigning for.
no i didnt mean that. she cant get health cos doctors world wide are very elitist and will NEVER vote/elect in a pharmacologist/pharmacist, professor or not. my point was she had reached the apex of her career in drugs. she deserves another chance elsewhere, like we all do. shes obviously a clever woman, and loves power hence the moving about. i live in the UK, if you know how many incompetent ministers have been moved from transport , to home office, to DWP[department of works and pensions], despite the fact they are square pegs as you say. the whole world is messed up kobo, me i just try to do my best, one day at a time. these politicians worldwide make me sick

On the Job Lessons Learn't? Please tell me that is a joke . . . because anyone knows there is NO MEASURE for such. It is a PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, and dependent on the SUBJECT. By the available measures we have as her employee, she did a bad job.

There is no steep curve - She  was a  minister for crying out loud, an information minister at that (No construction or rebuilding of infrastructure and all that necessary)-- --   because we know what her job requires of her and we can see clearly that she did not fulfill not even one of those responsibilities to the Nigerian people. If you have no clue what her functions were, may I suggest you visit the ministries website to understand what the job of an information minister is and why she cannot be given a pass grade, no matter which way you try to cut this one.

Come on, I took you for one of the sensible ones on this matter -- do not go sentimental on us now. You may not, yourself, be back home voting but you can surely speak to those back home to make the right decision come next election. You have the power to do research on the potentials to find better options than to allow people continue to RECYCLE the same brand of failed leaders we have had for so long. Maybe all YOU do is criticize but no, not everyone on here does just that. Some actually interface regularly with those who are able to vote to give them the necessary information for them to make a better choice. This is information that they normally would not have, even though they live right there in Nigeria. Also, nothing stops you from going down to vote if you want to. But don't. please, do not use that as an excuse for why we should re-elect someone who we know did a poor job in 24 back to back months. Just don't!
personal experience? is she self employed? anyway its not like shes moving from one ministry to another. shes vying for senate, which is out wit of anything shes ever done. in this life sometimes u do a bad job and get re-elected. dont believe me, ask george bush. thats life. get with it.dont make it right though, it is what it is. im not trying to defend her, cos i know she sucked at the job. what im saying is you dont kill off her career cos her last 24 months was a disaster. she deserves another chance, we all do, especially as shes done well at a federal level before. she was never going to be minister of health cos those guys will NEVER touch non doctors, so u can say she reached the peak in pharmacy. nothing stops her trying elsewhere. hell kobo u can vie for public office where u are as well. nothing stops you either. im still one of the sensible ones, just a different tangent from your POV. dont make u right or make me wrong. just different.potatoes, potatos. and before 24 months have you also done extensive research to read her cv prior to that? or did she pay for all the international awards received? how can you only based her career on the last 24 months. not only biased but you certainly arent looking at the bigger picture here.

as i said its senate. will she win? maybe, maybe not. soludo who most people thought would win was surprised. in this game called politics nothing is as it seems. lets watch this space.

A university degree doesn't give self confidence, self confidence most times is a natural attribute though can be built. There are a lot of university graduates that can't even brace themselves up to speak in public.

A degree does give you some right when you are among people that care whether or not you're a graduate. But it doesn't make or mar you though I will always support education but not necessarily to the level of holding a degree even though I am not against it. Having some form of education makes you see things clearly and identify with who you are and what you want. And whether or not you choose to go as far as having a degree, you will be able to express yourself clearly in whatever field you find yourself.
that is due to the fact that very little presentations were done in the school. usually this is done during masters degrees. its the system of the world though. no country worth its salt [im talking EU countries, US, etc would touch a non-degree holder in its key positions of governance. not one

Furthermore, if there is anything promising about Uncle Jo, I think he should have used the few months @ the Aso Rock to send message or redefine himself to the great people of Nigeria.
