Mine was not cooking, but something else.
I was about 11. I was told to peel sweet potatoes.

I took the potatoes, knife and container with water close to where my parents were so that i could listen to their stories.

When I finished peeling the first potato I gave it a "bite". It tasted good. So each time I finished peeling a potato, I bit it to taste whether it was as sweet as the previous one. I was hearing my parents laugh but didn't know why...sometimes I joined in the laughter. Then dad asked why I was biting each potato...that's when it hit me that they had been laughing at me.

Since then I have learned to cook without tasting.

I am surprise his only regret is his broken marriage. How about the innocent girls you initiated? Have you prayed to God to help them out of what you did to them?
