Politics / Re: Lagos State Governorship: 2015 Christian Agenda by Lagosboy: 1:42pm On Dec 07, 2011
I wonder why some people try to look for trouble where there is none.

The other day some people said Aregbesola is turning Osun into an islamic place forgetting that oyinlola and his deputy were both christians and no one complained. It is these same people that accuse northern folks of playing a religious card by not supporting GEJ while they fail to remove the spec in their own eyes.

Our education system in Nigeria needs to be revamped in its entirety, we have been turned into people who only make judgements based on ridicupous sentiments, all sense of reasoning and logic have been lost. Our acquired prejudices sole form the basis of judgement and that is from bottom to top of the Nigeiran state.

Gbawe:

Anyone  capable of reading between the lines , and fully cognisant of the unprincipled and AGIP nature of Bafawara and his ilk, will know that the statement below is the koko of the matter;

They want money from those who gained  political office in other regions to be used to maintain their indolent lifestyle totally dependent on political handouts and largesse. When this does not happen, they throw egotistical tantrums. This is whyThe ACN really needs to be careful with the calibre of folks allowed to join the Party.

If it were Balarabe Musa, Col. Umar or Northerners of that calibre threathening to leave the ACN then that would be a cause for worry for the Party. When it is worthless AGIPs and political LovePeddlers like Bafawara et al, then I say good riddance to bad rubbish. Bafawara is no different to Atiku. When Atiku left the ACN , the Party did not die as many predicted. Rather the ACN went from strenght to strenght and it is now Atiku who is sc.rewed.

Man mi long time

How u been keeping

Lets be realistic money will forever remain a factor in Nigerian politics and it is only with money these structures will be built in the north or south by either CPC or ACN. The northern ACN's grouse is a legitimate one especially when they are not carried along at all in the running of the parties. SPecial attention shoul dbe paid to them for the mere reason that party strcutures are weak in those part.

It is the same accusations that ACN party agents levelled against the party heirachy during Ribadus election. Money was not released to mobilise for the election.

Let us detach Bafarawa or Atiku from the issue and look at the substance of the matter. Atiku left ACN but he and Tinubu are still buddies. It does not mean tomorrow they will not come together if it is intheir interests.
Politics / Re: Northern Acn Moves To Split Party by Lagosboy: 11:45am On Nov 22, 2011
I think The leadership of ACN will regret this in 2015. ACN will remain sectionally strong if they dont as a matter of urgency concentrate efforts in the northern part of Nigeria. Come 2015 they will start to dance around looking for a party to form an alliance with, it was the same story in 1999 Yoruba vs them , same story in 2003 then the OBJ/Iwu rigging machine swept them aside, same story in 2007 when they formed an emergency party with the northern politicians led by Atiku,Rimi and co, 2011 dancing around with Buhari and finally took PDP to bed.

The same criticism goes to CPC , serious efforts should be made from now to make inroads to the South but then finance might be an issue. There shall be no opposition to PDP so long as the leading opposition parties are only regional champions like CPC and ACN. The two parties cannot merge and might be better off trying to spread their tentacles around.

Bafarawa might have his issues but i agree with him 100% in the criticism of Tinubu and i admire him for not being a pushover like othe politiicians who lick Tinubus arse and oil his ego by not criticising him. In as much as Tinubu controls ACN the way he does the party can never be a party with national spread.
Politics / Re: Buhari May Contest In 2015 Election by Lagosboy: 8:11am On Nov 15, 2011
I dont think Buhari will contest the election, Senator Hamman I believe is referring to El Rufai or the Adamu Aliero and co. However, Hamman needs to be pragmatic and face the reality of Nigerian politics. Truth be told Buhari has tried 3 times and lost to the rigging machinery of the rling party. 2015, Buhari will be 73 which is irelevant to me but i think if he garners support for El rufai it will be do the CPC good in the long run.

El Rufai might be able to make inroads to the SW and other parts of the country. Please any alliance with ACN is dead on arrival as it did not work and will never work. CPC should put is house in order and stop all these uselss bickering and holier than thou attitiude of some elements within it. These people i beileve have a fear of losing relevance once Buhari fails to contest and thus fighting for their personal relevance and not the biggier picture.

Howver if Buhari decides to contest i will support him. My alternatives are SLS and El Rufai.

Fashola cannot win a presidential election in Nigeria under ACN and in fact Tinubu will never let Fashola be president. At worst he will be given a senatorial ticket.
Politics / Re: Dialogue With Boko Haram - El-Rufai To FG by Lagosboy: 10:35pm On Nov 12, 2011
Nigerians should not be emotional about this problem.

Without dialogue there is no way the current administration will defeat this menace. The security forces are so compromised and unprofessional, it will take more than 4 years before they can transform to a real force IMO.

There are many under the surface political manoeuvres with regards to BH and until the FG look for a way to dialogue , i see no solution to this problem. Yaradua crushed them and killed their leader but the group has grown ten fold since then. If you kill 100 some of them will just spring up elsewhere.

Someone said you do not dialogue with terrorists, I say even the US/UK wants to dialogue with Taliban, even the IRA was brought to the table, even the US reached out to dialogue with the Iraqi elements of AQ in Iraq. This kind of wars cannot be won conventionally because it is not a conventional war.

The politicians are not getting killed it is the poor policemen, poor citizens, poor soldiers who are not different o me or you . . .common people. Until the politicians that matter start to lose their lives the insincerity would continue which means more killing unfortunately.

May God save Nigeria!

A brave heart , who did not run from war. I watch his last minutes with mixed feelings.

There is no need denying Ghadaffi killed some of his people and i believe in the law of retribution which is the reason he died by the bullet as well. Having said that i have great respect and sympathy for this man, he fought till the end , he could have escaped to Niger or Algeria or even Venezuela to live in peace but he chose he hard way to defend his land.

Some Libyans have scores to settle but i think they are in for new libya where few people will become stupendously rich and the populace will wallow in poverty. Ghaddafis sin for me is he stayed too long, 42 years is just damn too long and he should have quit before that.

BP, Total and co will be fyling into libya to seal all the oil deals and the frozen libyan assets will be used to pay for the war.

Ghaddafi i pray your sins are forgiven and granted eternal rest.

I weep for Nigeria !

A presidential economic comittee is composed of the FO , Jim  Ovia and other OBJ billionaires. Okonjo leaves World Bank to come and implement one of the policies of world bank in Nigeria.

No one claims there is no issue wit the current subsidy , it is very obvious the subsidy system is rotten but one thing is for sure which is the masses of Nigeria buy petrol at a subsidized rate. Removing the subsidy and freeing the money for capital projects and social security is a good idea but almost every idea and policies from Nigeria has always been great. The devil lies in the implmentation , i can bet that the 1 trillion savings will be devoured by the corrupt lions in the presidency and state governors.

That money will not reach the masses in anyway. The good subsidy removal will only positively affect the masses if it is implemented by a much LESS corrupt government rather than this GEJ govt as it is currently constituted. If the money is voted for capital projects, corrupt lions will win the contracts and abandon the project half way. If they complete the projects it will be sub standard with over inflated value, we have been here before and so has been the story of Nigeria from the 70s till date.

Surgical Revolution I call for ! please dont ask me to explain.

*smiles*, ok yeah I'm over 18 and I do understand that it prevents sinful acts as u stated, but I just don't see myself getting married, lol. I'm in my final year and even my project mate, an afar, as we usually call him once asked me what next after school and was surprised I dint say marriage. He also encouraged early marriage too and that further studies could be done in one's husband's house.I understood his points (same as u stated) but just laughed it off. He said he believs by the time I'm out of school n I get someone suitable, my orientation could change even befr service. He told me he knws parental factor could be a factor and I agreed. I can imagine my dad's attitude telling him I have a suitor and he wants to come and see you for to ask for my hand in marriage.

Parents, May God bless them, sometimes are responsible for their childrens misguidance in life. Sister if you find someone suitable and u genuinly want to get married , your dads reaction is the least of the probem as i see it. As long as there is a will , there is a way.

You  could speak to your dad about it  and most importantly pray about it. Your dad is a human controlled by the most high. Ask the most high who controls your dads heart to soften your dads heart , in order to accept your wish in life, so as to prevent you from doing acts that might diplease your lord, the most high. With faith and belief your mission will be accompished and you would look back and say ,"it was not that complicated was it?" Alhamdulilah your tounge would proclaim!

I do visit this section very well and I know the active posters, and my admiration for you goes beyond initiating ds thread. I just contribute rarely.

Sister , how young is too young. As long as you are over over 16/18 in this current envrionement i dont think you could be too young for marriage. HEven here in the west the age of consent is 16 and you could get married at 16 with the consent of your parents and independently get married at the age of 18.

PErsonally , i dont believe education is a barrier to getting married as long as one can delay child birth for couple of years to finish ones studies. I have seen people do it successfully and it saves one from lots of sinful acts and prevent indecency.

And God knows best indeed.

Politics / Re: Only If Nigerian Democratic Presidents Will Do 1% Of These For Us by Lagosboy: 6:07pm On Sep 14, 2011
IG:

@Lagosboy, don't waste your strength. Everybody knows the truth but we just chose to turn a blind eye to it. Those points you listed were the very reasons why Ghaddafi is being attacked not because he is a dictator. Don't you wonder why the west is not complaining about the Saudi royal family? This is a family that named the whole country after themselves.

Just before Mubarak was ousted, America's stance on Egypt was that they prefer stability than democracy in Egypt. Now they are the destabilizing the once stable Libya.

Personally, I don't give a damn what the world thinks. Whether we practice democracy, monarchy or any other system, government should function to serve the people. Democracy should be a means to an end and not an end in itself. You will know whether a system will work in the first few years of it's use but we are 12 years into democracy with very little to show for it.

By the way, these are just my views. Nobody is compelled to agree with them.

The shameful thing was in Febrary Saif Ghaddaffi was dining with the creme de la creme of British society and holding business meetings with them. Tony Blair was his Buddy, i wonder what changed between Feb and march. Ghaddaffi travelled to Italy in Jan on a state visit as well.

I would go for a dictator, monarch or whatever that gives me the basic neccessities of life and improves my quality of life and gurantees me justice. I would not accept a democracy where judges are Fraudulent , legislators are looters and the execuitives are nothing short of pen robbers.

Every nation has what is suited to them the most and i am yet to be convinced this current style of democracy is best for Nigeria. 12 years and we are worse of than in 1999 IMO.

X-factoria:

@Lagosboy:

Libya is approximately 7 million in population, just about half the population of Lagosians, and produces approximately 1.8million barrels of oil per day (about half of Nigeria's production).

From the statistics above, you can say Libya earns half of what Nigeria earns from crude oil exports in a year. Imagine Nigeria only having to share its oil money between 12million population, what will our country look like even with the corruption menace we are faced with.

The point I'm making is that Libya has a low population and high oil earnings to carter well for it. Nigeria is about the opposite with 150million people fighting for just times two of Libya's wealth. I am not justifying the failure of leadership in Nigeria nor am I wishing away our supposed strength and strategic advantages as regards our population size, I am just saying that what Gaddafi did in Libya as listed above is about the least he could do with their enormous resources. He looted the country for 42years in the midst of all these "achievements". We are not sure that any other person in Libya would not do more. The same also goes for Saudi Arabians who practically do nothing but enjoy good lives while their leaders and royal family ranks among the richest in the world.

These achievements are not spectacular same way Fashola's government in Lagos is not fantastic. Fashola is trying but what he is doing is not spectacular as any at the helms in Alausa will tar roads and build schools (albeit concentrated in elite areas like Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki) because that has practically become Nigeria's benchmark for good governance.

I knew this population analysis was coming , very true the poulation is little but at least Ghaddafi had the political will to do it. If we go down the population analysis Let us take Bayelsa state as a starting point, between 1999 and 2007 Bayelsa recieved an average of between 8-11 billion naira monthly for seven years of which GEJ was governor for 2 of those years. Bayelsa is a state with a population of less than 2 million people as far as i know. The commuinity where oil was first discovered is still the same old 11th century village .

My point is our leaders dont have the sincerity and political will to develop the quality of life of Nigerians.
Politics / Only If Nigerian Democratic Presidents Will Do 1% Of These For Us by Lagosboy: 3:31pm On Sep 14, 2011
Ghadaffi was a dictatator no doubt, but no one could question the services he rendered to his people in terms of amenities and prosperity. He is a million times different to Egypt or Tunisia and light years better than our so called elected presidents in Nigeria.

1. There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens.
2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.
3. Home considered a human right in Libya –4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar (US$50,000) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.
Is this what you call a dictator
Traditional wedding in Tripoli, Libya
5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are literate. Today the figure is 83%.
6. Should Libyans want to take up farming career, they would receive farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kick-start their farms – all for free.
7. If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need in Libya, the government funds them to go abroad for it – not only free but they get US$2,300/mth accommodation and car allowance.
8. In Libyan, if a Libyan buys a car, the government subsidized 50% of the price.
9. The price of petrol in Libya is $0.14 per liter.
10. Libya has no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion – now frozen globally.

11. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found.
12. A portion of Libyan oil sale is, credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
13. A mother who gave birth to a child receive US$5,000
14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $ 0.15
15. 25% of Libyans have a university degree
16. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.
Which other dictator has done much good to his people besides

Brothers and sisters should be very sincere with themselves in this respect (as with other issues in our lives too). A brother who is looking for a sister should have marriage strictly at the back of his mind. If a brother isn't ready for marriage then he has no business making proposals or 'asking a sister out'. A sister who's not ready for marriage has no business accepting a brother's proposal.

Even though Islam does not stipulate a particular time-frame for courtship, it definitely abhors a man and woman 'dating', 'courting' with no tangible marriage plans in sight. Some courtship period may be delayed by circumstances beyond control. for example, the waliyy or members of either family may be against the union, and attempts are made to make them see reason. Either of the prospective spouses may need to make an urgent and unexpected journey etc. But courtship should never be for the purpose of 'getting to know each other'. You can never know enough outside marriage. Reality and true colours usually set in when couples begin to live together.

The length of time you court does not guarantee the success or failure of the marriage. People have courted for donkey years and still end up in divorce. People have met and married within a couple of months and are living together ever peacefully. Once we've done our Istikhara and put everything in Allah's hand, we shouldn't bother about trying to know our mate through courtship.

So I disagree with those saying a year. IMHO, a year is too long too court, except there are good reasons to do so.

Ti eniyan ba npe lori imi, esinkesin a maa ba le.

[sub]any good interpreter in the house?[/sub]

I very much agree with you , especially that you can only know someone until you live with the person. Someone i know dated a guy for about 7 years and they got married. IT did not take 6 months before trouble started and trouble everyday. The marriage is on the verge of collapse,

However regarding the length of time , i think the legnth should rather be on understanding and knowing the sis/bros background, There are many sisters here in the UK that you find in sheesha houses , they party and all sorts , some smoke and they have a hijab. Some of them have had a very funky lifestyle and you would not know what you are getting into. Anyone can repent and become a good person which is good masha Allah but I believe a bro/sis should know what he/she is getting into.

I'd prefer to marry a gyrator i know was one and she changes for the better, rather than marry a pretender.

Good question. Because as the Yorubas will say, the prospective husband of a woman are 1001, it's the one on top of the thousand that she'll eventually settle down with.

I agree with deols here. If a lady is not interested in a man, if you don't see him as being your hubby, the father of your kids, the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, then tell him immediately, as nicely as you can. If he persists, and you're certain you don't want him, tell him very firmly that he's wasting his time and he should stop being a pest to yours. If he's someone you really respect, you can put it in writing. And please ladies, don't sniff at what you won't eat. You know you don't want this man, he invites you to lunch, you follow him. he buys you gifts, you accept them. He offers you a ride, you readily oblige. The truth is that even if you continually tell this man you don't want him, but accepts all these offers from him, it means you're giving him hope, so please, let your verbal rejection match your attitude and disposition towards the man.

Some men handle rejection badly. I can remember a couple of brothers (one of them, an Imam in a mosque in town) in school who stopped talking to me till we graduated because I rejected their proposal. I see this as the height of immaturity. na by force? grin

Ok. Not only men make proposals, some bold women do too. Now, how do ladies go about this? How should she handle been rejected? Brothers, how do you reject a sister's proposal in order not to hurt her?

A bro once said maybe I have three wives and is she willing to be the fourth and this sister was put off. . . the case was settled. Obviously the sis did not know the bro too well and the sis did not propose directly as well. The bro did not lie as well but phrased it in an intelligent way . . .lol

I could not agree more with you. Dressing and looking good is part of our deen and you are very correct a bro should dress to impress his wife as well. It is only the dress mode or style that is the issue here. Mon to thurs i am dressed in a shirt and fully knoted up in a business style, on weekends i love to wear my casual jeans and  tshirts ( preferably white) with a pair of trainers lols. If a sister doesnt not like my jeans and shirt then she would not be suitable for me either as that would not change after marrying her.

We don't seem to be on the same page, LB. You are talking about dressing in relation to the deen. I am talking about individual preferences.

I can never look down on a brother in shorts (as long as its below the knees) as lacking in his deen. In my school then, it was even the 'konko' brothers that used to go on shorts mostly. grin It'd even be silly of anyone to judge a person based on such. But as for me, when it comes to finding a man marriageable, I do not like to see my man dressed in shorts. I'm sure if I wasn't a Muslimah, (God forbid), I'd still hold the same opinion so it's not a matter of religiosity, ok? smiley

beard is cosmetic?

beard is equal to hijab of women.

these are the signatures to make people know about your faith, without you telling them

thobe, you have a point, because it is not the only clothing type that covers the aura.

zayhal:

Beard is not equal to the hijab of woman.

Wearing hijab is COMPULSORY and not wearing it is tantamount to great disobedience to Allah and His injunction. The verse on hijab are very clearly explained in the quran. A woman who does not wear the hijab is commiting a great sin. Beard on the other hand is a meritorious sunnah act. The Prophet (saw) enjoined the men to keep their beards and shave the moustache 'in order not to look like the Jews and Xtians'. Thus, it is highly ENCOURAGED for a Muslim to grow beards to show love and obedience to the Prophet (saw) and men who do this will be highly rewarded by Allah, masha Allah.

But we cannot equate the beard to the hijab. And Allah knows best.
deols:

beard is equal to hijab of women lagosboy pls answer. I av always wanted to know

masha Allah, sis Zahyal has given a good explanation on this issue.

Bismillahi Arahamani Araheem
This issue of beards sometimes is a contentious issue amongst muslims and some muslims make a big issue out of it. Some scholars mainly of the Wahabiyyah school and the deobandis of the indo pak region consider a beard as compulsory , some even go as far as saying it is a major sin if you shave your beard. This issue has to take us back to the basis in usul ul fiqh or the categories of ahkam in fiqh

Wajib -  Compulsory and if you dont sinful
Mandub/Sunnah -  recommended and if you dont sinless
Haram or Halal
Makru - Frowned upon
Mubah - neutral

Some of us forget that the sahabas had beards before islam and the mushriks had beards as well, the Prophet PBUH recommended trimming of the moustache to differentiate the two people. There are two kinds of command in fiqh Amr haqiqi and amr ijaazi. Amr haqiqi is a rule from the most High to we lowly humans., this kind of command has no clause in it is like "Wa aqeemu salatu wa aatu Zakah" Establish prayer and pay zakah etc. These type of comman are always categorised under Waajib acts

On the other the second type of amr is like "marry two, three or four  . . .  BUT if you fear you cannot do justice then marry one" . This verse is also a command from Allah but it is placed on the second category of commands because there is a clause to it  . . which is BUT.

The scholars that hold the opinion of the beard not being wajib have cited some of the above. Also, in any isse where there is difference of opinion among the jurists in the sunni school. We do not condemn but rather we respect those who do not follow our opinions.  I respect people with long beards and may Allah reward them as long as their intention is pure, however i expect these people to not consider those without beard as a lesser muslim or lower in eeman because Allah cleary says taqwa is not in the outer look but inside.

And God knows best

Ok. I understand your viewpoint. But you see, some ladies would like the guy but will continue to make things difficult for him, make him beg them for everything, I don't like this. If you think you don't and won't like the guy, tell him straight. I'm very blunt in this area. But if you think you like him but have your doubts, pray about it, keep him at arms length, let him know he's a friend but nothing more, you need some time to gather your thoughts blah blah. Don't deliberately 'play hard to get'. Afterall you know what you want and don't want.

For example, if @maclatunji came in his shorts, riding his phantom and expected he'd sway me, I won't bat an eyelid, those shorts have automatically disqualified him. cool tongue

Kai that means , if all women were of this opinion LAGOSBOY would have it tough finding a nice sista  grin

Seriously some sisters are taking dress issue to a new level. I have seen not a few @salafi@ sisters turn down bros all because they dont dress in a thobe or have a long beard. The irony is the divorce rate amongst them int he UK is so high which is an indicating factor that those long thobes and beards are nothing but cosmetics when it comes the quality of islam in a man.

This shorts issue reminded eme of my experience in Makkah. After asr prayers     an arab bloke walked up to me saying "hadha libas laisa tayyib fiy al huna " with a loud voice . meaning "This dressing of urs is not good for this place" , he then pointed to the jalabiyyah of my friend implying i should be wearing that and not my bermuda shorts.

I was so vexed and wanted to take him on but i was fasting and it was in Ramadan where needless arguements are to be avoided. More importantly it was in the haraam. I just told him jazakallah and walked away.

Some people are taking dressing of men to a whole new level forgeting that there is what we call "ourf" culture in usul ul fiqh. Some even say u are dressing like the kuffar because u are wearing a jeans forgetting that the englismans culutre is that kind of dressing.

I am sorry to digress but i have been turned down once by a sister because of my western style normal dressing.    embarassed   It was her loss anyway and such sister with such mentality does not deserve me  . . .lols   tongue

This allegation of murder is grave but could you substantiate it? Nothing is impossible under the sun.

As for the other names

bola Ige , Dipo dina i dont think Tinubu has anything to gain from their murder so why would he have killed them. Baseless allegations if you ask me.

As for Funso Williams , God knows best as Tinubu stood to gain and he did profit from the death of Williams. Fashola could not have defeated Funso willams IMO. It could have been a case of we voted Williams and not PDP.

Gbawe:

Who told you that? Are you just believing the claims of those who are from Ekiti and thus support their Governor by default without recourse to facts?

What has Fayemi done to make him a stand out performer? Everyone knows I support ACN and watch what their Governors are doing . To claim Fayemi is the only performer along Fashola is far from the truth and the sort of assertion only an Ekiti person can make. Amosun , even more than Fashola, and in real terms, has been the stand-out ACN Governor of the past 100 days !!!! Fayemi, in real terms, is not amongst the top performers of the ACN and that is something any objective ACN fan (fair to all the Governors) will admit.

Fayemi , at best, is steady and I don't know how he can now be up their with Fashola if we are talking about tangible achievements being seen on the ground. There is too much ignorance in Nigeria with many of us preferring to work with assumptions than facts on the ground. Everyone can see what Amosun has been doing(and I give some example below) to note that there is no vagueness or spin at all. Amosun has been paying N18,250 as minimum wage since August. Amosun is one of the few , depsite massive debts, who has been about action rather than "planning" in the past 100 days. That is commendable .

Amosun has indeed started well and , i quite agree with you that he probably is the best of the ACN governors in the last 10 days. Fashola himself has not done much IMO and Aregbesola for me is the worst of them all. Politics is different from governance and ths man has been involving himself in too much messy politics.

In fairness to PDP Osun state , i detest PDP but i like how they have kept the pressure on Aregbe , taking him on his policies and style , which is the beauty of a "democratic" environment. Aregbe should have kept quiet rather than trying to justify his frequent travels, he has been a governor for close to 1 year now while Amosun has only been a governor for 3 months.

There are allegations that these woman and her consultant friends pocketed about 60 billion naira in consulting fees for the debt payment deal.

She is brilliant no doubt but only an incorruptible person can fight corruption in Nigeria. It only takes some people to blackmail her before she backtracks on cases,

Honestly the level this guy will go to defend every thing Fashola Tinubu is just sickening , Even Fashola himself does not like this level of psycophancy. This guy does no even know maybe some people here on NL are closer to the govt than he will ever dream of but yet still objective in their analysis and criticism.

Truth be told, the corruption and stench in Lagos govt is amazing and no different from PDP corruption. The only positive thing is that Fashola tried to do lots of positive things in his first two years albeit he benefited massively financially as well.

It is only a matter of time before the shepard comes to lead his flock to the promised land.
Politics / Us Embassy Eveasdropping On Nigerian Justices by Lagosboy: 3:51pm On Sep 08, 2011
A cable that emanated from the US embassy disclosed that Andy Uba, a former senior assistant on domestic matters to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, offered a bribe of N200 million to retired Chief Justice Idris Kutigi in an attempt to compromise the Supreme Court ahead of the 2007 presidential poll. According to the cable report, Mr. Uba arrived at the CJ’s office in the company of controversial businessman, Emeka Offor. Quoting a source in Mr. Kutigi’s office, the cable revealed that the then chief justice rejected the bait and asked both Mr. Uba and Mr. Offor to leave his office.

The cable suggested that the two emissaries were acting on behalf of former President Olusegun Obasanjo who sought to have his estranged deputy, Atiku Abubakar, excluded from running in the 2007 presidential elections.

The cable also revealed how Mr. Obasanjo used the Etsu Nupe, the foremost traditional ruler from the Chief Justice’s home state, to offer Mr. Kutigi another bribe of N400 million. The cable stated that the former Chief Justice also rejected that offer.

Full details of the cable follow below:

(C) SUMMARY:

In upcoming weeks, the mood of the Supreme Court may well be an important factor in determining how many of the recently concluded "elections" stand. In the past three weeks its rulings on the myriad lawsuits brought by President Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku in their political battle provide a glimpse of its approach and mood. Court thinking may be colored by the unsuccessful attempts to influence the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Idris Kutigi through bribery. While this glimpse is not intended accurately to predict outcomes of elections tribunals, it might indicate that the judiciary will show greater independence than after the elections of 2003. END SUMMARY.

¶2. (C) In the upcoming weeks, the mood of the Supreme Court may well be an important factor in determining how many of the recently concluded "elections" stand. In the past three weeks, court rulings on the myriad lawsuits brought by President Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku over the political battle between the two top elected leaders may provide an indication of its future direction. In the two biggest cases, one determining whether the National Electoral Commission (INEC) had the right to disqualify candidates, and the second on the validity of the hastily convened Administrative Panel to indict Atiku, the court came out against the use of the Presidency's powers to manipulate the electoral environment. And Chief Justice Kutigi, in establishing the elections tribunals several weeks ago, stressed to the judges selected for the panels the importance of dealing with cases quickly. He also warned the electoral tribunal judges against being influenced by bribery and political pressure, stating that those who succumbed could be dealt with through the National Judicial Council, and those found wanting could be removed from their positions.

¶3. (C) Kutigi appears to be reacting strongly to several credibly reported attempts to sideline him or to co-opt him for political purposes. A member of the Chief Justice's staff told PolCouns that the Presidency had attempted to bribe Kutigi twice before the elections. In the first case, the President personally contacted Kutigi to offer Kutigi's son an appointment as a Federal judge. Kutigi is said to have demurred, saying that he wanted nothing that might be seen as favoritism and was concerned that his son should be appointed in the future on his own merits. Nevertheless, Kutigi's son was nominated.

¶4. (C) According to the same source, the second attempt came when the President's former special adviser and current Governor-elect for Anambra state, Andy Uba, visited Kutigi's office on April 10 accompanied by Anambra businessman Emeka Offor. The aide says the two offered Kutigi 200 million Naira (about $1.6 million) to drop the suit by Atiku and leave him off the ballot. Kutigi, according to the aide "reacted strongly" to the offer and escorted them out of his office. The next day, President Obasanjo declared a two-day holiday ahead of the April 14 elections, delaying the decision in the Atiku suit until the following week.

¶5. (C) A third attempt reportedly took place on April 24, when Kutigi was summoned to meet the Etsu Nupe, the paramount traditional ruler from his home state. According to a member of the Nupe council of chiefs, the Etsu Nupe offered Kutigi 400 million Naira (about $3.2 million) from "the Presidency" in exchange for "control" over which specific cases the elections tribunals would overturn results. According to the source, Kutigi was livid. He told the Etsu that he had no desire to explain to his family "where this kind of money comes from" and pointed out that, at his age, he would be "meeting the angels" to answer for his life very soon. "And they will not be asking me for Naira," he is said to have concluded. When the Etsu discussed the situation with his council, several of them reportedly berated the Etsu for "even suggesting" that Kutigi could be bribed and advised him to return the cash to its source as soon as possible.

¶6. (C) On April 26, rumors began circulating that Kutigi's official vehicle had come under attack in Abuja by "unknown ABUJA 00000841 002.2 OF 002 gunmen." Reportedly, shots were fired at the Chief Justice's car and he was whisked to safety by his security aide. Post has been unable to confirm this rumor, but it is widely believed by Nigerians to be true.

¶7. (C) [bold]On the same evening, PolCouns overheard phone calls from three Supreme Court Justices, including the Chief Justice, to members of ANPP Presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari's entourage. Two of them were expressing sympathy with Buhari over the elections and assuring him of the judiciary's impartiality. The third call - a Justice from the Southwest - also encouraged Buhari personally to forge ahead with the elections tribunals because, in the words of the Justice, "we are fed up with the pretense of democracy" pushed by President Obasanjo.
[bold/]
¶8. (C) COMMENT: While this glimpse is not intended accurately to predict outcomes of elections tribunals, it is an indictor of the mood within elements of the Judiciary. Given the widespread public concerns about the electoral process, the Judiciary could take a more active role in these tribunals than it did in 2003. If these indications are correct, it could signal that the judiciary is prepared to be more independent that it was after the elections of 2003. CAMPBELL

After all is said and done, I agree with you . Ribadu should have said nothing by remembering the adage "if you cannot say anything good , don't say anything at all". He showed political naiveness with the Patience Jonathan scenario because he could easily claim, correctly, that he is no longer EFCC boss and he is not therefore obligated , unless compelled , to answer question about previous EFCC cases. It is like how Abati correctly now tells us he is working for President GEJ and thus is not obligated to defend the actions of the former Governor of Bayelsa.

This is very true my bro and that is the right way to call it, he himself learnt in those 4 months of politicking what he would not have learnt in 100 years. The murky waters of Nigerian politics is difficult to swim and not come out with some dark spots.

By the way Is Ribadu still in Abuja or abroad.
Politics / Re: Wikileaks: EFCC Had Files Of Ibori, OBJ And GEJ. by Lagosboy: 9:42am On Sep 08, 2011
This is one of my grouse with Ribadu and i believe he has learnt his lesson , albeit the hard way. Politics made him eat his vomit by categorically exonorating Patience Jonathan and GEJ and here we have wikileaks revealing the contrary to butress what we already know.

All these looters have to be brought to justice and unless they face the music, reducing corruption would be a mirage like it was always a mirage. Where there is no political will nothing will be achieved. Almost half of GEJs cabinet are filled with compromised people, his SAs,SSA, and all other Ss are compromised. How on earth will he fight corruption, fighting corruption would be tantamount to fighting himself.

Nigeria is slowly reaching a tipping point and, and i sincerly believe people will revolt sooner rather than later. One day monkey go go market and e no go come back .

Highly distasteful , however pertinent their grouse, that Nigerian Senior Government officials have made the USA an agony Aunt. It would be nice for once , to read diplomatic and vague responses , giving nothing away, to Sanders instead of injurious wholesale confessions to ,effectively, a very devious and manipulative Nation that thrives on knowing everyone's secret in its effort to stay ahead. Pathetic !!! As if our leaders don't have enough lessons in history to know what the USA is about in Africa. Imaging giving a confession to the devil? What repentance do you gain doing that?

Man mi lonegst time , i am back to base now and u should hear from me.

To the topic, I could not agree less with the revelation that virtually all Senior govt officials and even the COAS , CJN, Executives have private meetings with the US amabassador. If it was not realism i would have called it hypnotism dut to the widespread revealations.  The US ambassador in Nigeria seems like the senior spy official and feeding back information to the department of state , where they now fashion out policies.

I do admire SLS a great deal and the contnent of his discussion is nothing but facts and sincrere truth but the benefit of speaking to the US ambassador about these issues is what i dont get.

The FBI has taken over local investiogion, the KGB and israelis are now protecting the president and ASO villa. Where is the pride of the Nigerian nation. WE have no secret again and no national security, GEJ the dumbest and weakest president Nigeria has ever had has virtually sold us out to powers abroad due to his inexperience and lack of depth in international politics and manouverings.

This is what a nation gets when the look at every issues from a sentimental mindset of tribe, religion and other fiticious things.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Is Right For This Cleric To Rain Curses On Wasiu Ayinde Pls Give Ur Opinion by Lagosboy: 3:58pm On Sep 06, 2011
This guy is not Buhari omo musa.

In fact what this guy has done is a crime because to speak in the name of Allah in such a manner is a crime.

This guy is accusing Wasiu of singing in lewd lyrics and he himself is repeating these lyrics times without numbers. This is a "cleric" singing all the fuji songs and could only recite surah asr in his entire lecture, with shameful qira and no knowledge of tajweed whatsoever, even the warsh qira we are used to in the SW is zero.

Raining curses on someone is not a way correction.

In fact i wish all the good local scholars lambast this man. Seems he is looking for cheap popularity and increase sales of his video. What is the business of a cleric in lisiting the best fuji musicians and now singing their songs one by one to justfy his claim.

It is indeed " Wal asr . . . "

Lets pray she marries a righteous Nigerian muslim husband wink
