Politics / Re: Aregbesola Signs MOU With London Borough. by Lagosboy: 8:10am On May 10, 2011 |
ekt_bear: I have read it to and it never made any sense to me to be honest, the real reason why they have not appointed commsiioners is politics to put it simply. They wanted to reward politicians and people who work for the just concluded elections, they were waiting to to be able to reward anyone who failed in his political aspiration as well. However when political manouvering is placed above governance, you could win in the short term but in the long term you will lose out. I remember the last channels debate when Fashola was aksed about the striking doctors , he said the reason he could not meet 100% of their demand was because of sustainability,. He knew other sectors would most certainly suffer if the wages are paid. This is not too exonarate Fashola in anyway neither is it to castigate the doctors but i am only looking at the isssue of sustainability of the 20000 workers. |

vigasimple: Lets hope they realise this and work out things properly. Aregbesola seems to be a good person with a genuine intention to serve the people well, however good intentions is never enough to deliver good governance. Proper Prior´Planning with good diligent implementation of clear positive policies is what delievers good governance. |
Politics / Re: Ribadu Moves To Kabul, Afghanistan To Fight Corruption by Lagosboy: 4:19pm On May 09, 2011 |
Gbawe: I wish Ribadu well in his new job but never assume this notion of anyone , sometimes what seems apparent is not really what it is. We dont know how much he would be paid by the UN . Everyone likes a degree of wealth and comfort and Ribadu is no exception. I can never vouch for any Nigerian politican in terms of financial dealings except two men which is the late Gani (may blessings be on his soul ) and Buhari. Ribadu has been asked to help with Afghanistan as far back as when he was still in the EFCC, he was also asked to lecture people in Iraq as far back as 2007 while he was still the EFCC boss, kudos to him. Good luck to him in his new job. n.b got ur mail wud reply in a bit |

Basics007: This is the song i have been singing on NL right from the time Ribadu signified interest in the presidency, I have debated with my pal Gbawe on the issue several times. You cannot as an agent of change win the presidency in Nigeria without a political base on your own turf. Ribadu was hasty and came out of this adventure badly bruised. However i wish him well in what he knows how to do best fighting corruption. His 2 years sojourn to Aghansitan might mean, there will be no visible presidential opposition from ACN. Again, it might have been better for Ribadu to start building a political base in the north with Buhari right now. All i can see is Ribadu returning to Nigeria in 2013/14 and the ground dynamics might have changed and he will lose out again. Having said that, Ribadu needs to feed his family which means the job migh be a good idea for his personal self. |

Below is the 6 point agenda of Aregbesola Action plan: eradication of poverty and hunger through food production, roads construction and processing of agricultural products, restoration of healthy living, through the provision of effective health care, promotion of functional education and enhancement of communal peace and progress. The plans a very much ambigous. This 6 point agenda is only the vision Aregbesola has for the state as a leader , which is perfectly alright. However, policies have to be drawn up to actualise these plans and sustain the plans. |
Politics / Re: Aregbesola Signs MOU With London Borough. by Lagosboy: 11:31am On May 09, 2011 |
manny4life: This is exactly my position , Osun state presently does not generate that amount of money, there are complains of debts , empty treasury and all sorts, it does not make economic sense to then burden the state with monumental wages within 3 months of an administration´s inception. The only explanation for this is that there are currently no policy makers on ground , which is because there are no commissioners 7 months into an adminstration. If the administration does not go back to the drawing board early enough , the next 2 years might be wasted and nothing tangible would be achieved. This is the kind of criticism that is required of us as citizens to direct at our leaders. What is the health policy of Osun state ? What is the tourism policy ? what is the infrastructure development policy ? what is the investement policy of the state ? We need to know these policies and praise it if it is good and if not , make constructive criticism. However, as far as i know and i could be wrong there are currently to real policy on paper or available to the public from the Argbesola govt on these areas. Policy is not just "we are going to build new hospitals, equip them bla bla bla but policies will analyse to us how the activities will be funded, how it will be sustained, life term of the policy before it is expected to be modified etc |
Politics / Re: Aregbesola Signs MOU With London Borough. by Lagosboy: 12:21pm On May 06, 2011 |
Gbawe: I very much agree that his approval rating is high but i am thinking long term , i am thinking of Osun state in 2015. His populist actions are loved by the people but like i said above i dont understand how it will be sustained in the long term. 20,000 employees earning the minimum wage of 20k naira translates into 400,000,000 naira montly which is 4.8 Billion naira annually. If this 4.8 billion is spent on infrastructure of the tourism industry , within 18 months private sector investments will flow into the state and they will provide employment. You would have killed 3 birds with one stone bacause during the provision of infstarucutre people will be employed , infratructure will be provided and tourism industry will boom which in turn will provide thousands of employment. You then move to other sectors health , agriculture, education and a host of others. 4.8 billion for 4 years is 19.2 billion naira . I want to believe a rail link , roads , hospitals and lots of infrastructure that would outlive Aregbesola could be built with this money. |
Politics / Re: Aregbesola Signs MOU With London Borough. by Lagosboy: 12:12pm On May 06, 2011 |
ekt_bear: These were my exact thoughts, these 20000 might eventually become parasites of a symbiotic type on the state. It is nice to be a populist but focusing much on populist policies dont eventually last the test of time. It is always good to strike a balance between populist actions and sustainable development. If commisioners and Sas of sound minds were already on ground , they would be the one shaping the policies of the state. Aregbesola as a leader is only required to express and articulate his vision for the state and let the policy makers come up with sound sustainable policies of which He will administer to the letter as an administrator. This is the job of a leader IMO. If i was Aregbesola i would have focused on the endless tourism opportunities in osun state , source for funds to develop the infrastrucutre around there and infrastrucutre to get to the destinations. The tourism industry will provide employment for these youths. Govt Job creation is not by absorbing them to the public work force but by creating opportunities where requirements for employments of value would be needed. This 20,000 workforce although good for the people, and laudable but from an economic and long term perspective is not sustainable in Osun state in my humble opinion. |

Politics / Re: Aregbesola Signs MOU With London Borough. by Lagosboy: 10:19am On May 06, 2011 |
@ Gbawe In my first post below the bolded was the only positive thing I could think of from the MoU, anything apart from that would be a mirage and wishful thinking IMO. Lagosboy:Gbawe let us be honest with ourselves, I know it is always good to see the positives in issues and not always the negatives but we have to be objective at times and criticize so as to bring the best out of our leaders. I know you are ACN but you should criticize when some things are not going well. I like Aregbesola as a person and I know few people close to him and who also on ground with him in Osun state at present. However, I personally think he has not achieved much in his seven months of governance, I know PDP messed up the state but there is a proverb that says “ if it is going to rain in the evening we should already be seeing the movement of clouds by the afternoon” . Aregbesola does not have commissioners after 7 months in power. I am aware it is a political issue and they were waiting for the elections to be over so as to see who is available and be awarded positions. In the UK we both know well , opposition parties have shadow cabinets ready to govern at a anytime as they are familiar with what is happening in the government. No commissioners and SAs in govt means no policy direction in the state, means when commissioners and SAs are appointed , they will spend another 1 years developing policy direction , means after 2 years proper implementation might begin. It means the first year of the commissioners in power will be doing the same old things Oyinlola´s commissioners were doing in the state. Aregbesola is going too slow in everything and in my humble opinion talks more than action. He is good guy personally and I like him but I personally think he might be one of the flops after 4 years. My assessment is only based on the discussions I have with people around him and his actions in general. I hope I am wrong and he proves me wrong because I like him. |
Politics / Re: ACN Not A Yoruba Party, Says Ngige by Lagosboy: 9:41am On May 06, 2011 |
I only started to enjoy myself on NL the day i started to select people i engage in conversations , debates or issues. I dont know how some people have the energy to argue and argue, rolling in the circle in the process and at the end of the debate we are worse off in understanding compared to when we started. Time is indeed a precious thing and I very much agree with Gbawe that some people dont have a life beyond NL otherwise why would anyone argue for hours , days , weeks saying the same things in order to win an arguement. ACN is not a regional party ! It is true it has its strongest base in the SW but the party has NASS members scattered across the country. PArty is not solely judged by the state it has governors otherwise we would say CPC is not a nasarawa party because it only controls the governorship of one state, while forgetting the 83 HOR seats and 6 senatorial seats. Lets us shed our myopic, ethnic thinking and liberate our minds from the schackles of the intellectual poverty some of us suffer from. |
Politics / Re: ACN Not A Yoruba Party, Says Ngige by Lagosboy: 4:59pm On May 05, 2011 |
In as much as i have some reservations for ACN we should never let out sentiments make us from run away from facts. ACN was formed in 2006 by politicans nationwide , it only happened by fortune that Atiku and Tinubu were the biggest politician of clout in ACN when it started. When i talk of clout i mean financial liquidity , Rimi , Iyorcha Ayu , Boni Haruna , Ibrahim Babtel, Ghaali Naaba and a host of other PDP elements. However, the elections were rigged and only Lagos was won by ACN. Most of the northern politicans left ACN because they wanted to eat . Tinubu stood with ACN because without it he will not be politically relevant and funded the cases in court, kudos to him. He is enjoying the success today of which Atiku would have been part of if he was smart enough to realise he was never going to win the PDP ticket. The other ACN guys left ACN with Atiku and today are politcally irrelevant except GEJ rewards them with some kind of appointment. ACN is not a tribal party but has its strongest base in the SW, I am sure ACN won Adamawa in 2007 as well but the election was rigged. The court nullified it and the re run by Iwu was rigged again . Ngige is a man i admire for his courage and i believe he will be the next Governor of Anambra state which means ACN will have another state in the SE. However, for ACN to win any presidential election in Nigeria they need to forge alliances with the Buhari group which has tremendous northern support. |

Politics / Re: 64 Firms To Invest Over $25b In Lekki Free Trade Zone? by Lagosboy: 2:39pm On May 05, 2011 |
This is good news and the 4th mainland bridge linking ikorodu to Lekki will be the only thing to enable the success of this free trade zone. I have been to the zone and seen it myself. however, all the workers that is expected to work at that zone have to be able to get there. Lekki Epe expressway is too small to accommodate the new volume of traffic that the zone will generate. The coastal road has to be constructed or completed as well as the 4th mainland bridge. Big jetties at ikorodu will also be a good avenue for more ferries to commute passengers from ikorodu to Lekki. We should never forget that a port is also being built in the area. |
Politics / Re: Oyo Pdp, Acord Party (ladoja) Legislators-elect In Alliance Talks For Speaker by Lagosboy: 11:43am On May 05, 2011 |
This is very good for governance in Nigeria , especially if the opposition HOA members are sincer and have the development of the state at their hearts. A speaker from the opposition will surely keep the governor on his toes and enable perform well. He will not get too comfrotable and perform well because he knows there is real competition. Absolute monopoly of gevernance in Nigeria leads to no development, although there are few exceptions like LAgos and rivers. |

LagosShia: @LAgosshia Please this will inshallah be my last response to you on the thread. We are having a relious discussion and as a muslim the best place to reference for the definition of Wahabism and aqeedah is "infoplease.com" . This sums up my pereception of you. Ibn Abdul Wahab RA and Ibn Tayimiyyah RA and even Sayyid Qutb RA could you please quote me a reference from their books where it is stated that innocent could be killed and murdered. The fact that a group of people try to lay claims to a scholar does not mean the scholar sanctions their actions. Sayyid Qutbs ideology of replacing Jahliyyah sysytem with islamic system is no different from Imams khomeinis ideology of replacing a tyrant by islamic system. Sayyid Qutb said you could use a voilent means if neccessary, Imam Khomeinii used a voilent revolution against the shah. I dont want to go down into a sectarian discussion bro as i dont have the time and energy. Bottom line is the ideology of killing innocents is not in any of the works of these scholars. Salafi ideology is islamic ideology albeit we differ with it but we have to respect their opinion on issues. All the Salafi scholars i know within and outside Saudi have all spoken against Al qaeda. In Egypt we dont have wahabism but we have people who share Al qaedas belief and are in no way salafi. Bro, in social science there are what we call multi spetra and multi faceted issues. We have to analyse issues indiviually and not lump groups together. It is only in the western media they tag al qaeda wahabism and wahabism equaling al qaeda. A muslim that does the same without analysing or understanding it is plain wrong. Wahabism is term created by the opponenents of the teachings of Ibn abdul Wahab nothing more |

Islam for Muslims / Re: Thoughts On The Death Of Osama Bin Laden By Yasir Qadhi by Lagosboy: 12:42pm On May 04, 2011 |
I really do not like to engage you in discussions as I am sorry to say but you appear to lack the neccessary intellectual analytical depth for us to agree on anything. I dont debate to win but debate to meet at a common ground if it is possible and if not so be it. we cannot unite under the banner of making islam to be mistaken for terrorism and killing innocent people to force the world into islam.the Quran says "no compulsion in religion".show me one place where the Prophet (sa) attacked Quraysh civilians and i will listen to your call for unity.the more we talk against this evil brand associating itself with islam the better the non-muslim world would listen to us muslims when we tell them islam is about peace and love.we need not fight anyone for islam.islam is rationality and beautiful enough for the entire world to be appealed to it. All the above is not needed because I never said anything close to or justifying the killing of innocents so please spare me your emotional outburst. All i am saying is Al Qaeda is different from Wahabism or Saudi Salafism period. that is the problem with wahhabism.they tag anyone a kaffir as they wish.why call bin laden a "kaffir"?who are they?it is the same ideology of tagging other muslims with takfir that is spreading danger and hate in the world. This is the problem i have with you, you cannot understand the core message i am trying to pass across. You act and post like a robot that has been programmed to post certain things regardless of what the other person is saying. I am not here to talk about Saudi govt or puppet scholars. Alli said and i am saying is Al qaeda ideology is different to Wahabism as we know it or Salafism. If Saudi wahabism was same with Al qaedas ideology why will they tag usama as a non muslim ? Why would they refuse his body? Why will the saudi scholars be fighting the Al qaeda idology in KSA. This is just simple logic dude! Take a break from all the shia message against wahabism. I am not Wahabbi and i disagree with many of the wahabi school views but as a muslim i dont resort to cheap lies or propaganda. every act of terrorism that have come out and tarnished the image of islam is from that "group of people" you're supporting.in iraq and pakistan more muslims have being killed by wahhabi extermists including alqaeda than by the american "crusaders".check here how they call bin laden a "matyr": This is the again the problem you have, "if it is not black then it is white" . Where in my post have i been supporting whabbis killing innocents. Only if you will think outside the box that the fact that a person is calling your attention to be fair in castigating others does not mean he supports them. Read through my many posts on this section and you will see my numerous posts against the Saudi regime and saudi govt scholars. However, my disagreement does not mean i will attribute what is not theirs to them. ALQAEDA IDEOLOGY IS DIFFERETENT TO WAHABISM OR SAUDI SALAFISM. |
Politics / Re: Where Are The Supporters Of Buhari? by Lagosboy: 9:37am On May 04, 2011 |
I supported the peoples General because of the conviction I have in him, I still believe he would have being the best president for Nigeria. However, elections have come and gone , one person has to win and GEJ has won this time around by whatever means we can call it. We have to move foward as a nation, we in the opposition have to go back to the drawing board, startegise for the next elections and make effective constructive criticism to bring the best out of the current govt. The opposition should work hand in hand at the NASS to pass bills that will advance the progress of our dear nation. PDP´s 2/3 majority in the senate is lost and that is a good step. However if GEJ appoints career politicians as his ministers then whatever ministry they handle might be business as usual. |

LagosShia: Please stop propagating falshood and why are you hell bent on disunity , concilatory and harmony. You thrive on contreversies, sectarianism and hatred. Last time i checked Saudi Arabia the headquaters of Wahabism is suffering from terrorism, last time i checked Saudi have killed hundreds of their own citizens in the name of fighting terror, last time i checked saudi scholars the core scholars of Wahabism tagged Usama a kafir , last time i checked the Council of ulama in saudi called usama and al qaeda members brothers of the devil. Life is not black and white like i always say to you . I am not a Wahabbi and i have lots of diasgreement with some of the positions in the Wahabbi school neither am i a shia but propagating falshood against a group of people is plain disgusting. |
Politics / Re: Sagamite's Analysis Of State Governors by Lagosboy: 5:16pm On May 03, 2011 |
Seems Peter Obi has been a failure. This brings me to the issue of educational qualifications in Nigeria. Looking at all the state governors most of them have 2 degrees and some even in public administration or public policy . However all this degree have translated into nothing except misery for their state indigenes. Ameachi only has a bachelors and one from Nigeria, same goes to Fashola with one degree and from Nigeria but their perfomance speaks volume of their intellect. It is hight time we stop looking at fancy foreign degrees as a yardstick of expected perfomance. Degrees dont mean anything when the inherent greed in our politicans overcome their intellect. |
Politics / Re: Fiscal Federalism, Panacea For Power Struggle – Tinubu by Lagosboy: 4:10pm On May 03, 2011 |
I agree with Tinubu 100% on the issue of fiscal federalism or a review of the revenue allocation formular Fashola talked about 2 days ago. It is the best for Nigeria and i think we should start the debate big time, this debate should not ot just for pages of newpapers but the debate should start at the NASS. Hence, if Tinubu is sincere with this as i want to believe so , ACN should make it a policy and work with CPC at the lower house to sponosr the bill and put it to debate which will positively result in a vote. However, i do not like to see the hole in the doughnut all the time but the comment below : On whether the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) would serve in the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Tinubu gave a non-committal reply: “If there is clear vision and determination to really serve the country, we are committed to it. We are committed to a united country; we are committed to rapid development of Nigeria, good economic recovery and constitutional democracy.” I can only intepret this to mean yes, ACN will serve in the government as part of the deal that brought PDP to power. I have no problem with this in the least, if it will be capable and efficient minsiters that will deliver. Where my problem lies is the double speak or hypocricy of denial that a deal was never struck which led to the collapse of the proposed alliance. The GEJ led PDP will maintain the status quo and nothing will change, with men like FO standing by GEJ it will be business as usual . My only beef is calling PDP devil and secretly striking a deal wiith them , it has all the smell of typical Nigerian politicians. |

Otedola and OBJ were one of the biggest beneficiary of billions under OBJ . OBJ is close to GEJ and OTedola had positioned himself several months ago as one of the the big guys again. Talking about sponsors , the donation of these guys is insignificant compared to Nigerias money GEJ used to campaign. GEJ reportedly spent 200 billion and FO and his firends IMO cannot donate more max ten billion naira to the campaign. Under GEJ it will be business as usual , Few guys will hit money big time and Nigerians will suffer. Same old recycled politicians cannot and will never effect the change we require. The senate will be business as usual, the house of rep will eb business usual as well unfortunately. |
