owopokiri: That line about "government having no business creating jobs" has been so abused in this country that we need to start stoning politicians who wantonly use that dodgy excuse to gloss over their responsibilities,(And this is coming from a person who has never worked for government no another person since youth service!) Why am i saying that? While it is true that Nigerian youths have been so mentally derailed to always wait for government jobs instead of starting something on their own, we have to ask ourselves, how did we get here?
The fact is that it is the job of the government to provide the citizens with the skills needed for them to be able to be competitive in a modern economy! Is the Nigerian government doing so? No! You cant claim to be doing so when what you have is a litany of wayward universities with mangled curriculum! You have to train the young ones to specifics and you have to draw up your curriculum in a way that skilled hands coming of the campuses can easily be meaningful to the society by having the necessary training to start off from areas within the society where their skills are badly needed. That helps make their jobs rewarding.. You don't do that by flooding everywhere with just lawyers and doctors, with sociologists and political scientists. We need more engineers in this country, more scientists, geologists, artists, and more importantly, more qualified artisans.
How many mechanics or carpenters, or masons have you met that acquired their skills in a 'skills acquisition center' where there are set standards and examinations to meet quality skills training in order to insure optimal output? But when that mechanic that learnt his thread by watching his old uncle messes up your car engine, you start to curse and hiss. BOTTOMLINE: The government failed the citizens by not identifying areas in the economy where we need more hands, then building more schools to skill citizens optimally to fill in those areas and providing cheap funds through dedicated bank loans for start up thereafter! Simple! Agreed poop but what exactly has this useless set of people done to alleviate the problems of their people. No good roads, no social amenities ,no enabling environment nothing good has come out from these crap. The economy has so much been turned upside down that all they do is to complainants blame Jonathan. Bunch of failures. |

Business › Re: Naira Stabilises At N497 To Dollar by lagosrd: 8:15am On Jan 17, 2017 |
Truth234: The naira on Monday stabilised at N497 to a dollar at the open market just as stakeholders expressed hope in its imminent recovery.
The Nigerian currency, however, strengthened against the Pounds Sterling, but weakened against the Euro at the open or parallel market as it closed at N595 and N517, respectively; from N597 and N515 posted on Friday.
At the Bureau De Change window, the naira traded at N399 to a dollar, a rate it would maintain for the rest of the week, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N604 and N522 respectively.
Trading at the interbank market saw the naira weakened further at N305.25 to a dollar, from N305 posted on Friday.
Traders at the market said that while the scarcity of the greenback remained visible, there were strong indications that the Naira was on its way to imminent recovery.
Since the closure in the sale of Forex to BDCs last December, the spike in the Naira exchange rate had continued unabated.
Worried by the development, the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria last week pushed for the adoption of a single rate at the market.
The President ABCON, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, argued that multiple rates were frustrating efforts at stabilising the Naira and fast tracking its recovery trajectory.
Gwadabe expressed optimism that the resumption in the sale of about $250m to members of the association this week would help in addressing liquidity challenges in the market.

maternal: Which Province/City are you in ? Thanks for confirming everything I've been telling people for some time now. Why people pick the US or UK before Canada is beyond me. Both countries international fees are easily 50 percent more than a Canadian school, and you'll be most likely told to leave after graduation. Then you go back to naija with all that money spent on international fees, just to sit down at home and be unemployed. I too have told many to come to Canada, only to be ignored. Years later and a deportation notice from the home office or US immigration, they're now back in naija applying as a skilled worker to try to enter Canada lol. You'll get a 3 year work visa since you graduated from a Canadian University. Ask people with experience or hire an immigration lawyer to help certify that PR card. That should be your sole focus as that'll guarantee you citizenship. Forget the oilfields for now. DO NOT leave Canada until you get that card. As for the weather, you'll become acclimatize. And once you buy a car, you'll be driving around in a warm car, you won't even notice/care about the cold. So you made 13k or 3.1 million naira in 4 months. Why didn't you leave Canada, go to Ajegunle, and buy a house outright ? Why stay here and suffer ?
Welcome to Canada. It seems. People just sees you as too strict. By you're just saying the gospel truth about what is obtainable. Pls can I know which school offers the cheapest tuition for international students and most preferable in your opinion. Thanks |

maternal: Sorry just to add one more thing to keep things in perspective. I feel this info is also important. Due to the NAFTA agreement, Canadians hired by a US company can just show up at the border, get TN visa after showing proof of employment offer from a US company, and they get a working visa automatically where they can set up bank accounts and live a normal life. This route is much easier for an employer than filling for a international student. Any who lives in the US would know it's not uncommon to see Canadians working in professional jobs down south especially in silicon valley. My point is, unless you discover a cure for Aids or invent the new Facebook, nobody has time for all that paperwork for you. I also noticed a lot of Nigerians are fake in the US. Be careful of them. The one giving you advise usually doesn't have papers themselves. You'll be surprised to wake up one day and Chinedu who you were chillin with not too long ago is calling you from naija. How expensive and easy is it to get a masters degree programme or diploma in Canada. |

Crime › Re: Nigerian Man Died In India After Scuffle With His Former Landlord by lagosrd: 10:32pm On Jan 14, 2017 |
bbbabes: 36-year-old Nigerian man, Igwe Francis died under mysterious circumstances, moments after he got into a scuffle with his former landlord, in southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, on January 6th, 2017. Francis reportedly got into an argument with his former landlord, Liaquat Ali, who claimed he owed him Rs 30,000 in rent.
According to the Police, since Francis was not fluent in English, Ali wrote the figure “30,000” on a signboard at the spot.
The two then got into a scuffle, following which Francis tried to run away. But after running 200 metres, he collapsed on the road, police said, citing eyewitnesses. He was rushed to a hospital nearby, but it didn’t have life-saving equipment. Francis was then taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. DCP (southwest) Surender Kumar said initial investigation revealed Francis had bruises on his body. "As per the initial report doctors gave us, he had an injury on the back of his head. We are yet to establish if he hurt himself or if he was beaten up. We have questioned at least 25 people, but none of them said he was beaten up. We are conducting a thorough investigation," said the DCP. He said the Ministry of External Affairs has been informed about the incident. Ali is being questioned and investigation will be complete within 30 days, Kumar said. Police sources said a case was filed after the medical report revealed a head injury.
On January 8, Ali was booked under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
The case was filed on the basis of a complaint by the victim’s brother, whom he called minutes before he collapsed.
According to the FIR, Francis said over the phone that he was "being attacked". The brother, who did not wish to be named, said, "I received a call from him that his previous landlord was harassing him. He called me again saying he was being attacked and needed my help. A few minutes later, when I arrived, I found him lying unconscious on the road." He alleged that Francis was dragged inside a garage and beaten up by three people. "He managed to escape but collapsed on the road," he said.
