You are an Igbo whether you agree or not!

Answer simple question. What more research do I need to do about my own people that will connect me to umuleri? A long time ago, lots of scams were being spread and shared by the Igbo online warriors. One of them was about a research carried out by a nonexistent group "Niger Delta Research Monitoring Group." Everything in the purported research were obviously concocted and propagated. Chief among the concoction was the history of Agbor which they claim was founded by a man callled Omini from umuleri. The fabricators shamelessly claimed Agbor, formerly called Ominijie was founded by omini who was nicknamed omini uzo ije because he was a traveller. This shows the desperation of these people. Everything about your quest screams fraud, scam, fabrication, concoction, surgery etc

They are facts. Perhaps I would love to see them stop answering igbo names, stop using their market days and even dressing like them. Even if historical facts are brought, it might be difficult to convince many that Anioma isn't igbo. Unlike the itsekiri that share similarity with Yoruba, they can easily stand out to differentiate themselves. It is rare to see an itsekiri bear Yoruba name. Names like Mofe, Temisan, Toju e. t.c can easily be linked to itsekiri . Whereas names like Chidi, Amaka, Ada can't. Anyone who see that name would easily say this is an igbo person except the person clear the air.

I have not seen a single point from any of your comment. You mean to tell me that Itsekiri don't answer Yoruba name but mostly Itsrkiri name and Ika answer mostly Igbo names and there's no Ika names? Is this gross ignorance or double standard taken too far? I challenged you to a debate on this issue but it would have been a waste cause all your comments lack knowledge. Only Oshimili and Aniocha in Anioma don't have identity problem. Please op we have discussed this issue so many times here. Ika people are free to deny not to be igbo nobody cares stop making them feel so important. even my local government have population more than ika people.

The only problem i have with them is that they have failed to stop naming their children igbo name. most of this people have been hiding under igbo name and be committing crimes all over the world once Nigeria see any crime related to igbo name nobody cares to know if the person is from Ndokwa, Ika or Ikwerre which is very unfair to Ndigbo

By their names you identify were they are from. I didn't imply that itsekiri don't bear Yoruba names I only imply that you identify an average itsekiri man by his name. For the case of ika, many of them bear igbo names except for few that bears their dialect and that of binis. Names like Ijeoma should be ringing a bell in that end but it doesn't change the fact that many of them bear igbo names. It was on this forum that a chief lamented about Ika bearing igbo names. If they claim to be unique as Alleged by you, then should borrow a leaf from itsekiri. Can't you see that itsekiri are unique in their ways? They have been able to stand out to differentiate themselves from other tribes. People can easily identify them as itsekiri and not Yoruba but that can't be said about Anioma. That is the truth and you know it.
I challenged you to a debate on this issue but it would have been a waste cause all your comments lack knowledge. Maybe I should rather educate you
I have been giving facts and pointing flaws. You can give an essay or history about your dialect but it doesn't change the fact that what op raised isn't true. Probably instead of arguing, you can suggest to your chiefs that Anioma should stop using those things highlighted by op. Understanding the language is different thing but sharing so many things in common raises questions as to why many may not believe. I have a friend from Umunede answering Chibuzor. Many sees him as igbo but I don't because I was able to point it out but my other friends find it hard in believing. This is the issue at hand. You would keep seeing thread like this because fact are brought for all to see.

This argument again?

Well, my take is that eventually, all Igbo speaking groups would have no option but to sit on a round table and discuss terms and conditions of our unity.

It might not be now, though, because of a lot of factors.

See this one! You think an Igbo man recognizes you as one of them... they even segregate amongst themselves let alone you that have to cross the niger. Be deceiving yourself.

Ohanaeze Ndiigbo recognizes all parts of Delta North, Ndokwa inclusive, as part of Igboland.
And your representatives in Ohanaeze Ndiigbo are never discriminated against. They get their full share.

Ohanaeze Ndiigbo has a rotational policy of all Top posts amongst the seven main states IGBO speaking people are found.

The rotation of presidency of the organization is alphabetical and thus: Abia -Anambra -Delta- Ebonyi-Enugu-Imo- Rivers.
Currently, the president of the organization is Chief Nnia Nwodo, and he is from Enugu. He succeeded Chief Enwo-Igariwey Who represented Ebonyi. Chief Igariwey predecessor was Amb Ralph Uwaechue from Ogwashiukwu in Anioma, who represented Delta state.
From the organizational flow chart, you can tell that after the tenure of Chief Nnia Nwodo, the next president of Ohanaeze Ndiigbo would be from Imo state, thereafter Rivers state, and that will conclude the current cycle.

Mind you, Ohanaeze Ndiigbo is the apex organization in Igboland.

So in what way do Ndiigbo segregate amongst ourselves.

No society is perfect. But I believe Ndiigbo try as much as possible to enshrine justice, equity and fairness in our polity.

I do not understand why our close ethnic neighbor want to annex the smaller ethnic groups by force.

I have Igbos as friends both in church and in the community, they do not see the Ika man as Igbo just as the Ika man knows that he is not Igbo.

There is no need for any round table talk to agree on anything. All we need is respect for each other.

Well, I believe this post is directed at mine.

First of all, South East are not neighbors to Ika, as we don't share land boundary with Ndi Ika. Ika neighbors are Bini, Esan and Enu-ani people.

Secondly, Ndiigbo are not Empire builders and have no history of invading, subjugating and annexing non Igbo groups.

I have Ika friends on social media and in life who consider themselves Igbos. You have no right to speak for them on this issue, as their opinion is as important as yours.
Ika in itself is not a homogenous entity, many Ika towns have different opinions about their Igbo identity, and this even goes down to individuals within these groups.

Don't get it twisted or start having a misguided illusion of anyone in Igboland trying to annex your Ikaland, no one has time for such ish. We just are Naturally attracted to friendly Ika people who identify with Ndiigbo, and we believe strongly that they atleast deserve a chance to be heard, we would not throw away the child with the bath water.

Udo.

everything is not yoruba vs igbo bro. Stop insinuating urselves into every igbo talk.

Pazienza hw fa. Its exausting that this thing keeps coming up. Looking at the map of igboland...u can see that ika and ukwuani are not strategic to ndiigbo. We can not keep getting insulted because of them. Its time to listen to wat their traditional leaders say. If yhey say they are not igbo then so be it. Good riddance. Afterall switzerland prefered to be a landlocked territory than join german federation even tho they speak german.

We gain nothing with ika and ukwani

If we want to use diplomacy to maintain the igbo group..then we need to expend more time south of igboland than west.

Ika and ukwani are whatever they claim they are. No one cares. Ps i currently wrk with an agbor man and i see him being igbo weneva it suits him

Your analogy with Itsekiri and Ika makes absolutely zero sense. Itsekiri answer Itsekiri names and many Itsekiri answer pure Yoruba names. Majority of Ika surnames are Edoid or pure Edo names, followed by exclusively Ika names and some names with combination of Edo and Igbo, Edo and Ika, or Ika and Igbo in just one name. You see Itsekiri answering names like Oritsefemi, Oritsedara as against Oluwafemi or Oluwadarasimi that an average Yoruba would answer. That's the Itsekiri variant of the same name. But you will also see Itsekiri answering real Yoruba names. This is similar to how it is in Ika.

God in Ika is Osolobue and personal god, what you call Chi in Igboland is called Ehi in Ika. Exactly what it's called in Edo. That's why you see Ika people bear names like Ehiedu or Osedu , Ehioma or Osoma, Ehiemeke or Osemeke, Ehiwarior or Osemario, Ehikwe/Osekwe, Ehiobu/Osewuobu, Ehianugwa. I can go on on and on with some of these very popular names.

And besides, you placing all your emphasis on names shows you're not only ignorant about Ika and Itsekiri, you're also ignorant about Nigerian ethnic groups. Many of my friends from Benue answer Igbo names. I have met more than ten Idoma people answering Uche, my Igede friend is Chuks, another is Ikechukwu. When I went to their area, I was dumbfounded hearing people with different Igbo names but don't know any Igbo. This is Idoma and Igede that speak something entirely different from Igbo but Igbo is influencing them this much. What do you expect with us that have some ancient contact and relationship and also contiguous with Igbo land? Influence, acculturation, language shift etc

Present generation of Ika people bear more Igbo names than our fathers. Who you are ignorantly calling a chief is the highest ranking king in Ika land and even among the highest ranking kings in Nigeria.

Well, you have a point.
But I still believe we can't throw away the child with the bath water.
You look at the likes of Osita Mordi, and other proudly Igbo people out there, and you begin to feel for them when these Bini claiming Ika people surface.
You don't want to make them look foolish for holding out the Igbo western frontier for us. The least they deserve is our support. Their opinions about Ika Igbo identity can not be swept under the carpet, it must be as relevant as those of them claiming non Igbo. For this reason and more, I would maintain that Ika is Igbo, atleast until a referendum is conducted to separate the Igbos amongst them from the Biniphillic ones.

That's my current stance on this issue. I might yet change stance tomorrow, according to prevailing reality

I watched a video of a political rally by a PDP candidate in Igbodo Ika, where a Man from SE came pledged the support of SEners to the politician of Ika origin in a political rally in Igbodo.
The Igbo spoke in his Igbo dialect which sounds like an Imo dialect to Igbodo people, and they understood him perfectly, and when he was through, they told him that Igbodo and SE are one. Anyi bu ofu, they said.
And this was a gathering full with Ika people.

I don't think the situation down there is as bad as some of us think it is. Atleast towns like Igbodo, Ekwuoma, Abavo can easily be won over to our side if a referendum is conducted in Ika today on town by town basis.
