Strongdickfresh: Civil Engineering is an occupation for intelligent, social, smart and hard-working people with great sense of humour. As a civil engineering graduate or undergraduate, you're expected to be civil and think ahead by relating with people of all walks of life. Also, you're expected to be well equipped with the technical know-how to succeed. Civil engineering is not mainly grammatical profession but practically and design skills related in addition to management and negotiation attributes.
I was 14 years old when I was offered admission to study building technology at Delta States Polytechnic, Ozoro. During my 2 years of study, I was able to think ahead, relate with different people and established a good relationship. I met someone who advised me to go for building/civil engineering designs, costing and construction skill during my industrial training. During my 1 year industrial training I didn't focus on making money but on how to get the technical know-how to succeed in the construction field. I learnt how to design all types of buildings using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCad etc. I also learnt structural analysis. A year later, I was offered admission to study Civil engineering at Delta States University. While in the University, I always sell myself, designing, analysis and costing skills to others. I also taught a lot of my colleagues and other engineering departmental guys how to design using engineering softwares. In so doing, I became popular among my engineering collagues and others regarding designs, analysis, costing and project execution/supervision. I do get small designs and construction contracts of residential buildings. While in the University I was leaving well and responsible for paying all my tuition fees without bothering my parents. All my family members, friends, church members aand neighbors are aware of my expertise in building/civil designs, analysis, costing, construction and supervision.
On a fateful day after my graduation from the University, I got a call from a strange number. I answered and was told someone gave my phone number regarding execution of a building/civil construction projects. With joy in my heart, I said yes I can handle any kind of building/civil engineering projects. He responded, I will get back to you in two days time.
I was wondering if the person wanted to play or fool me. So, in 2 days time, I got another call from the same person. He said, come to my house and let discuss. When I got to his house, he asked if I can design and handle an estate project ? I boldly said yes with smile. He briefed me on the proposed estate design and how they wanted it. He said go and work on the design without giving me a Kobo. However, I was surprised and curious to know how he got my contact. So, I politely asked him, sir, may I know who recommended me? He said, his son who attended Delta States Polytechnic, Ozoro told him about me. Meanwhile, I couldn't clearly figure out the name of his son, because the dad didn't introduce his full self to me. I couldn't recognized him because he was abroad for many years. He just returned to Nigeria 3 months ago of which I had move out from that location. As I was discussing with the dad, the son showed up smiling at me. So, I suddenly recall how I was a close pal of him back in the Polytechnics days. We do hangout together and discuss the future ahead.
I was really happy because I knew this is an opportunity to sell myself and expertise. I came up with 3 different good design concepts and presented to the man. 2 weeks later, I was invited to explain the 3 design concepts. I did as i was directed. Behold, they were impressed and told me to do the costing. I had to run a thorough costing of the proposed project which was six hundred and seventy five million naira (N675,000,000.00) only.
They all accepted and adopted the costing to be N670,000,000. To my greatest joy, the project was awarded for me to supervised. They brought 4 other site engineers while I was contracted to be the project superviser and Manager.
I was asked to drop my account details of which I did. 3 weeks later, I got an alert of 200,000,000.00 million naira as mobilisation and to get the project started. When I got to the bank the next day, to my shock, my bank account has been frozen. I had to submit credentials to upgrade my account because I was still using student account. The project was executed and commissioned without any failure. I delivered excellently and the man and his family, friends and workers were impressed.
I made my first good 7 figures from this project and since then till date, the story has been more successful with good earnings of 7 figures through building/civil engineering.
Civil engineering is still one of the best course to study. However, you have to be serious during your years in the Polytechnics or University and during your industrial training. Equip youself and be prepared for any design, analysis, costing and construction opportunities/tasks that may come your way regarding your course of study. Opportunities are always opened for civil engineering graduates and undergraduates but the problem is that most of them lack the technical know-how to deliver excellently and succeed if given a project to handle. The first to fifth/tenth projects you will handle as civil engineering graduate or undergraduate will determine if you will go far in the profession or not based on your performance. These projects will always speak on your behalf and determine if you're worthy of recommendation. People will start to search for you and hire your services if you're able to deliver excellently handling contracts and projects.
Thanks.
Quite inspiring. I'm a Civil (Structural) Engineer too and I'm making a good money from the profession. In fact, even when there's no site work I get design jobs to do for clients, friends contact me to help give them a good design for their clients too and get paid. I have 3 duplexes I'm currently supervising in Imo state. I must say, It has been a good journey so far.
bjtinz: Lol. I think say na only Nissan dey get this issue.
In my case the pump was fine o, just for the mech to change the leaking hose connected to the fliud reservoir. I no know wetin he go touch, the pump come fail. That was beginning of my nightmares.
Four pumps, 3 diff mechanics and even the entire steering rack checked, but to no avail. I just tire. Though it improved, but not as free as it used to.
Was told Nissan has that issue with pumps.
This is exactly the situation with my ES 350. just to change the leaking hose at a mechanic my guy recommended for me, after which I couldn't turn my steering again as I was about leaving. The pump had failed... They said I should service it with 9k, did it and after a day the problem returned though not as stiff as it was before. It seldom becomes stiff when I want to turn a bend.... I'll keep managing it till I return to my base and have my personal mechanic fix it.
Football had no choice but to return all the magic and joy Messi gave to it all these years. If it's not confirmed before by his haters, it is now... Messi is the ordained GOAT. Congratulations Argentina
I will be brief. So, I met a girl in church and one thing led to another and we exchanged contacts. We been chatting and talking ever since. I can tell she likes me a lot as she's always calling me on WhatsApp call and video calls.
So, we fixed our first date to be today. Told her I will call her by 4pm to give her the venue. I decided for us to hang out in a popular eatery close to my area. The place is quite busy on Sundays with lots of guys and babes coming around for dates and to chill. They usually have live band too with good meals and all other things.
Called babe by 4pm as I promised and gave her the location and she refused coming there. I even offered to pay for tfare even though I knew that that's not the reason but she wasn't having any of it. Initially, she said that she hasn't gone there before but wouldn't want to go there either. Pressing forward, babe gave a new funny excuse that her village people usually come to that venue . Like WTF . Granted, she's from the town but how will someone know that her village peeps goes to a place if you haven't been there before. Ofcourse i stood my ground and the date had to be cancelled. She's been chatting me and I haven't replied yet.
To the question, does it make sense for a lady to choose for a guy where to take her especially on a first date? Who wouldn't want to hangout in a popular relaxation spot if he/she doesn't have anything to hide? Anyways, I had to take two plates of goat peppersoup from my budget and a chilled Heineken beer to watch my Arsenal team mumu themselves, by the way. I can't come and kill myself on top my own money too
Firstly, I don't go to a crowded eatery. I hate it. Sometimes when I take people to where I eat, the first question will be how I discovered such a calm & nice place....that's by the way. Secondly, when I visit my hometown, I don't go to their shoprite on Sundays, cos I'm likely to see some of my village people there, I don't like any familiarity with them and the crowd too is a NO NO for me. However, she's is a lady and must've hung out there with other guys she's not even dating or perhaps, she knows someone that works there & don't want that familiarity when she comes there with a guy...for her own privacy.
You should have been worried if the place has an hotel, but if it's just an eatery there's nothing there to be worried about. When I'm taking a girl out, I tend to ask which eatery will be convenient for her. I can only object if she chooses a crowded eatery. There's nothing wrong allowing her choose a place, it doesn't reduce your masculinity. I just hope you're not the type that takes a girl out and be telling her what to order(ebe o ga agbara gi cheap)
AUTOSANDCARTALK: VSC stands for Vehicle Stability Control and it is advisable you fix what is/are causing the Check VSC to show on time.
Looking at it, the TPMS which stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System error could mean your tyres are not appropriately gauged.
If the TPMS error is permanently fixed, tyres inflated appropriately, wheel balancing and alignment carried out on your car, the Check VSC error will go off.
All that said, we can help you to permanently fix the issue if you are in Lagos. We are at 2nd floor, 71a Shyllon Street. Palmgrove, Lagos.
Thank you. What about the red caution sign?
I'm based in umuahia and currently working in abakaliki. Should I see anyone around this place that can help me fix all of that.
Please guys, how do I get rid of this red caution sign on my dashboard? It's 2007 Lexus ES 350. My mechanic has tried to wipe it out through his laptop yet it still comes back. . Also, the tire pressure and traction signs. For this purpose I bought new tyres with the same pressure gauge yet they are still there. I hate seeing signs on my dashboard. Thanks in anticipation.
Kpekus: Excuse my ignorance. I always wonder how you guys are able to line the walls of a building (the superstructure) squarely on the strip foundation after you have completely covered the foundation with the oversite concrete. Do you guys leave landmarks as a guide before casting the oversite concrete?
No sir. We make use of the plum for external walls and use the drawing dimensions to measure out the internal walls.
9jaHustler: I have a tokumbo can in Lagos that I want to bring to Abuja. What is the going rate to have someone drive it from Lagos to Abuja?
Are there any conditions usually given?
Any thing that I need to know please.
I paid 70k from Lagos to umuahia last week Tuesday. Though I used a military friend and he delivered well. He even slept in Asaba close to Niger bridge because it was blocked that Tuesday....He got to umuahia on Wednesday by 12 noon after they opened the bridge in the morning. I was so happy that I added extra 5k on his way back to Lagos that same day.
hedonister: Yes, i actually lodged there twice. I even prefer it to this one. There's just something about it.
Exactly bro. I prefer it to that one. I've also lodged there on 3 different occasions, it was 10k then, went there last December and they've increased the price to 12k as per the other hotels standard room, reason being that people are now aware of the place. Another thing is, Yahoo boys dey full the one Op posted, if not that it's owned by Rochas, SARS for dey burst the place steady.
hedonister: I was in Owerri recently and i decided to visit a hotel that is said to be owned by the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and i decided to vlog part of the hotel. It's actually a decent and portable hotel as you can see from the Video and Pictures below.
Mutemenot: Welcome bro. I must visit your site soon... How many 12mm n 16mm have you used so far to achieve this height n did you used 6inch block for some internal walls?
As for coming around, we are currently on the decking stage, casting will commence on Wednesday and end on Thursday. Then do the forming, taking it to lintel level cos I will be leaving for owerri on Sunday evening to commence a project that we abandoned since last year due to paucity of fund for the decking. Should you're coming this week, my contact for direction is below.
Mutemenot: Welcome bro. I must visit your site soon... How many 12mm n 16mm have you used so far to achieve this height n did you used 6inch block for some internal walls?
No 6 inches block as requested by the client. Up to 100 lengths of 16mm Over 80 lengths for 12mm. Client bought the reinforcements as of late 2018 & 2019
Rammering for the oversite concrete coupled with the cantilevered slab to take up the blockwork to first floor level. Over 35 bags for the casting of the plinth beams and the cantilevered slab
Filling of the foundation Plinth beam; all round the building and near the middle(where I've a 9 inches step down). For the plinth beam, the perimeter of the main lounge is 20 inches height x 7 inches width(as seen in the last pic) Other perimeters is 11 inches height by 7 inches width
5 inches thickness blinding of the trenches 2 inches blinding of the base and 11 to 12 inches Casting of the foundation base....total columns and F.base is 38
Mutemenot: Try updating your thread so people don't loose interest..i have always checked every evening if you have any post...
I'm back. I've been so busy, because of the poor network I didn't bother checking again after being frustrated for some weeks. I decided to check this night and was able to upload. . Proceeding with the setting out and excavation
Hum2020: @lapace19 you can't be given us statements with showing us picture of what you are doing ok
I tried uploading pictures with those statements but poor network here would not allow me so I had to submit only the statement. By Sunday I'll go to where network can allow me upload pictures. Remember I'm doing the work in a village.
The starter columns & foundation bases(baskets) are ready. . (A)Starter columns (16mm & 12mm bars)= 38 (B)Bases (12mm bars)= 38; (b1). 1500mm x 1500mm = 8 (b2).1200mm x 1200mm = 17 (b3). 1000mm x 1000mm = 13 . Iron bender charged:
(1) #1300 for (1.2mm x 1.2mm & 1.0m x 1.0m baskets & their starter columns = 30) (2) #1600 for (1.5m x 1.5m baskets & their starter columns = Total = (#1300 × 30) + (#1600 × = #51,800 . Because of the dry season accompanied with hardened ground & hot sun, the labourers couldn't finish the digging yesterday. However, we will round up the digging today.
Today, I did only the setting out. ...would've started the digging today but ozubulu people like enjoyment as per new year, as such, labourers didn't turn up. . We will commence tomorrow morning.
Greetings, I will be updating you guys on the construction of this 6-bedroom duplex with outside hall(ground floor), gym house(first floor) & swimming pool.
Note: my client has bought reinforcements that will take us up to decking level, including sands, local stone & gravel. 9 & 6 inches blocks were moulded since 2016. The land size is up to 4 plots
