BusinessCBN To Sack Banks’ CEOs And Chairmen Over Late Publication Of Accounts by Laredojohn(op): 5:59am On Jun 28, 2016
LAGOS — The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it will sack chief executive officer and chairman of any bank that fails to publish its financial statement within the regulatory period.

This was contained in the Monetary, Credit, Foreign Trade and Exchange Policy Guidelines for the 2016/2017 fiscal year released by the apex bank, yesterday.

According to the CBN, all banks must publish their financial statements latest four months after their financial year or risk severe sanction, including removal of the chief executive officer and the chairman.

The CBN stated: “In accordance with BOFIA 2010 LFN, banks are required, subject to the written approval of the CBN, to publish not later than four months after the end of each financial year, their audited financial statements (statement of financial position and statement of comprehensive income) in a national newspaper printed and circulated in Nigeria.

“To facilitate the implementation of consolidated supervision, all banks, discount houses and their subsidiaries shall continue to adopt December 31, as their accounting year-end.

“The CBN shall continue to hold the Board Chairman and Managing Director (MD) of a defaulting bank directly responsible for any breach and impose appropriate sanctions which may include the following: Barring the MD or his/her nominee from participation in the Bankers’ Committee and disclosing the reason for such suspension; suspension of the foreign exchange dealership licence of the bank and its name sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (in the case of a public quoted company); and removal of the chairman and managing director from office if the accounts remain unpublished for 12 months after the end of the bank’s financial year.”

Naira depreciates N281.5/$

Meanwhile, the naira depreciated in interbank and parallel segments of the foreign exchange market yesterday.

At the interbank market, the naira depreciated marginally by 35 kobo as the interbank exchange rate for spot transactions rose to N281.49 per dollar from N281.14 per dollar. But at the parallel market, the naira depreciated by N10 or 3.2 percent as the parallel exchange rate rose sharply to N351 per dollar from N340 per dollar on Monday.

A bureau de change operator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the sharp depreciation was due to resurgence of demand for dollars, while supply has declined.

Last week, the naira appreciated significantly in the parallel market due to panic selling of dollars which boosted supply. The BDC source, however, said the appreciation was due to panic reaction to the commencement of the revived interbank foreign exchange market under the new flexible foreign exchange policy introduced by the CBN two weeks ago.

PoliticsRe: Senator Saraki And The Fictive Cabal- Femi Adesina by Laredojohn(m): 10:29pm On Jun 27, 2016
There is a lot going on in this present day government which will sooner or later tell back on them, it's rather sad that everything is stage managed and the scripts are evolving one after the other, even if Saraki and Ekeremadu vacate their seats as Senate president and Vice, the house is divided, this time not among party lines, but among interest, which surprisingly some members of the ruling party will form alliance with the opposition to frustrate the efforts of the Government...the same game they played at the tale end of GEJ's Era, is playing at the. beginning of theirs, when two elephant fight the grass will suffer, let's watch and see
TravelRe: lessons from the lawmakers sex scandal and A personal experience! by Laredojohn(m): 6:47am On Jun 25, 2016
Op I grab ur point, unlike naija, where some hotel cleaners are ready to jump on customers, especially when they see politicians, the white hotel workers are trained to have courtesy irrespective of who the customer is, those rep members must have tried something funny for an allegation to crop up, this isn't the first time Nigerian law makers lodge in hotels in US, for the embassy to come up with their decision they must have had some reasonably source of evidence, sexual assault does not necessarily mean sex or romance, a mere guy, making himself naked purposefully to seduce a lady because they alone or because she is cleaning his hotel room can also b an assault, and for just three of them of a lot, there must have been something they see normal here that's not normal there they must have done...anyways let's wait till the investigation is concluded...and we will all know the truth.

CareerRe: How Do I Save And Invest From My Salary? by Laredojohn(m): 7:33am On Jun 22, 2016
TomorrowToday:
Hi all,

I consider myself lucky to get a job after 5 months I finished NYSC, with an industry standard pay above N50,000 monthly. Eventhough like 2 months salary is being owed.

Furthermore I have worked for 6 months and am not thinking of changing job soon.
Reason being that in my position as a sales person am yet to bring in that huge financial figure, close sales I will look back on and be proud of my stay here, learn enough and prove myself valuable. I also don't subscribe to changing jobs based on higher pay.... Maybe for now.... You guys can correct me if I having being thinking wrongly .

OK that is that by way of introduction.

So like I said, I have been working for sometime now but can't boast of N50,000 savings.
I don't buy or use expensive things (most of my work clothes are first grade okrika, except for my natives that are new).
I don't do girls neither do I spend money on drinks, friends etc.

The bulk of my salary is often spent meeting one need or the other, personal; family etc. At the end of the month when am looking forward to add to what I was able to save one thing or the other will come and have me spend the money on it.

Really am not finding it funny as I don't have an alternative source of income. I have even thought of going to the bank where my salary is being paid into to request they set aside a reasonable sum of money as savings and leave the remaining balance.

Pls I have come to ask you guys. Do you find yourself in a similar position, how do you manage to save, what other sources of income can one venture into still keeping the regular job.

Pls I don't intend to be an employee up till my late thirties as I also have my own business dreams to actualize.

Pls your ideas, constructive criticisms and suggestions are highly needed.
Op nice u are ready to start saving, lemme give u the trick I used also when I was almost in your shoes, if u have a cooperative that is possible they deduct your money from source you could join, if not some banks or financial institutions offer such services, u gave a standing order a particular amount is deducted monthly from your salary to a fund u can't just deep your hands into, also you could start a very small biz as small as selling recharge cards to your colleagues or bosses @work with part of the balance so u make additional to the balance left so it can sustain you till every payday. All d best

BusinessRe: How To Stay Rich Even When You Have A Very Low Income by Laredojohn(m): 3:53pm On Jun 15, 2016
Anuoluwapo23:
Its nice to write again and I'm really excited to share this story of mine to every Nairalander so i would be needing your help(mods) also to reach more people on this interesting tips of mine..

I'll be giving out just 3 tips,I was in a bus today and I was thinking about my life and giving thanks to God and how I could have saved over 500k in my twenties even without supports from my parents or family,we arent really financially stable so i just had to source funds for myself and all sorts by myself.

1.Socialize and Make Friends:Some people call themselves introverts but I think this is a very bad thing because it would really affect your standard of living even if you're the richest in this world because you would need someone's help to get rich or get high in life, you know you can't do this alone, just socialize, make friends, let your friends help you,let them pay for your food, let them pay for your drinks, let your rich colleague pay for your lunch, it might look like begging or some sorts but because you know where you came from, don't be shy to ask people to help you, don't be shy to talk to anyone thats helpful,it might be your lucky day.

2.Tell people your problem; In 2009 I remember when I needed a job so bad that I told a friend of mine about my difficulties, but my friend that I told had another friend, she told her friend about my issues,I should be angry but I wasn't because I didn't expect her to tell someone I don't know about myself, and I didn't request her "uncalled for BC",but I I don't know who's who,so I kept my cool, and few weeks later her friend got me a job which was actually my dream job in an accounting firm and its a very good one, when I got the job, first week,my boss liked me so much just because I was the open minded type,I do not hide my problems from people,he always pay for my lunch and drops me at the busstop of my area and it went on and on that my salary was really enough because I don't even remove up to 10k out of it in month, isn't it cool?

3.Be A Giver ;What do I actually mean by this?its not just about giving and not expecting a return on investment, its about giving and expecting nothing to come out of it,not even 5N.
Earlier this year,my aunt had her wedding ceremony and we were all excited and all sorts, some people just came and said they haven't eaten but I don't know them, and they were my aunt's guest but they had gone home for verification so I just overlooked it,although I should be angry because even me I hadn't eaten for the day so it should be annoying that someone came "after party" for God!Nobody really does that but these men did it for real, and I gave them my food that I had reserved for myself, (they were two) so they ate my one plate until earlier this month,I saw one of them in Abeokuta at a store where i was trying to decide on which blender to purchase from the 3chub store somewhere in panseke, and what they had that day was a syinix blender and the man didn't just purchase the blender though, he also bought me a huaweii device because I said I had non at the moment although I had non,I got robbed in my street by 9pm(May God Help Us In Nigeria) so they snatched my bag which had (a boom j8,a vodafone tab,my makeup kit,my shawarma,8k,and my devices charger and different stuffs " but I'm grateful to God that I wasn't even stabbed. So it just happened that way..

That scenario is really funny but that's how to stay rich,Thats how I stay rich even when I have a very low income,I hope we all make use of these beautiful steps of mine, I didn't even read them from a book,Its my idea, please read and share and like.
u quite true, one who is quite cant help him or herself , telling people your problem hmmm it depends on who sha, the last point giving thats the ultimate, the giver never lack, no matter what, that has worked for me for years and its still working, in as much as i give , and save for myself, anytime i reach my spendable limit , miraculously i just get help from where i least expect, op , nice one , hope alot learn from this
RomanceRe: He Refused To Call Or Ping Me: Nairalanders I Need Your Word Of Advice Pls by Laredojohn(m): 1:34pm On Jun 15, 2016
tushgirl:
Good day all,
I met a guy around February, initailly someone gave him my bbm pin so we were chatting but I wasn't into him then(because I haven't seen him then),i would always ignore him or reply sometimes....i. Began to feel something for him toward April ending so the chat and calls were regular...we started dating and the relationship was going on smoothly,we met and I fell in love immediately...my feelings for him was so strong,i told him him I felt and he told me same too.

We were suppose to meet last week but he suddenly text me and told me about a meeting he was to attend so I accused him going to see other girls and not the said meeting.
I told him my mind, how I felt he is a womaniser,i said many things but I never insulted him,i later called and apologise even when I know he might have been with another girl that weekend....i have been begging this guy since Friday,he said he had heard bit he refused to ping or call me
I'm not exaggerating but I get admires everyday..i have someone seeking for my hand in marriage,a very comfortable person.

Nb:This guy don't have much,but I still don't c care.

Pls talk sense into my head, insult me,i want to forget about him totally.

Mods help a sister out
'i said many things but I never insulted him' you later apologized for whathuh if i may ask ,the alot you have said is equal to insults , you do not have to call him a stupid guy to show u insulted him, your feelings just starting , he might feel this his is having issues already at things you have no facts to back up , but mere imaginations , you have trust issues already and that the basis of all relationships , even if you still go with the other person who you claim is ok, you will still do same, kindly always try to trust who you want to date and always accept what they tell you , always have your facts before you claim they are lies ....

CareerRe: Civil Servants And Their Attitude To Work!!!! by Laredojohn(m): 7:28am On Jun 13, 2016
Op you might be true with some points, but definitely not all , the time of resumption, quite true, not as early as the private sector peeps, I work @ Lagos State, Ministry of Finance, the attitude to work is quite different at my end, where u find most of the old women and men, their attitudes are quite different from where u find the more younger generation of staff, we also make such complains if we have things to do together, for Lagos state most Ministry's are quite efficient to a level as compared to other states, the notion of getting daily tips isn't all true,it might b in some MDA's but definitely not all...Lagos keeps growing and progressing because the Civil Servants are putting in their best to the uplifting of the state.

BusinessDangote Acquires Shares In Afreximbank by Laredojohn(op): 5:47am On Jun 10, 2016
The Dangote Group has become the latest corporate organisation to join the African Export-Import Bank as a class B shareholder.

The Group, according to information released by Afreximbank and made available to our correspondent, completed the process of acquiring equity in the bank on May 30 this year with a “substantial investment.”

Afreximbank is an international financial institution, headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, whose primary objective is to promote and finance trade within the African continent and trade between Africa and other continents.

Welcoming the investment of Dangote Group, President of Afreximbank, Dr. Benedict Oramah, stated that it was “a strong vote of confidence in the bank by, arguably, the largest indigenous corporate organisation in Africa.”

“The massive investment the Dangote Group is making across Africa makes it a partner of choice in the delivery of our intra-African trade strategy. Working with the Dangote Group, we will build supply chain financing across Africa that could reach $1bn in the short term, promoting intra-regional trade and growth of short and medium enterprises, and creating much needed jobs,” Oramah said.

The President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said, “I consider Afreximbank as a good vehicle for fostering regional integration in Africa, which aligns with our vision and mission for growth and development across the continent.”

Afreximbank has four classes of shareholders divided into A, B, C and D, which are made up of a mix of African governments, central banks, regional and sub-regional institutions, private investors, African and non-African financial institutions, export credit agencies and non-African private investors.

Class “A” shareholders are African states, central banks and public institutions, including the African Development Bank; while Class “B” is made up of the continent’s financial institutions and private investors.

Class “C” shares are held by non-African investors, mostly international banks and export credit agencies, including Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC, Citibank, China Exim Bank and Exim India. Class “D” shares, a tier approved in December 2012, are fully paid par value shares that can be held by any investor.

Oramah described Dangote as an enigma who was assiduously working towards the unification, growth and development of the African continent.

NSE, on Wednesday, also organised the Nigerian Capital Market Sustainability Reporting Seminar. It was a joint initiative of the NSE, Global Reporting Initiative and Ernst and Young.

Speaking at the forum, the Chief executive Officer, NSE, Mr. Oscar Onyema, said traditionally, stock exchanges have become the nexus for the interaction between investors, companies, policymakers and regulators, adding that Exchanges had played a crucial role in building transparent, regulated markets and promoting best practice in financial and corporate governance disclosure among listed companies.

He said, “Today, Exchanges are also well suited to help with the 21st century sustainable development challenge as they are uniquely placed to facilitate action as regards sustainable business, with a variety of measures at their disposal. These include listing requirements related to sustainability reporting, voluntary initiatives, guidance documents and training for both companies and investors, and sustainable investment products such as indexes that focus on Environment, Social and Governance issues.

“There is a recognised need for enhanced levels of corporate transparency on ESG issues, and as an Exchange we are well positioned to encourage and even require listed companies to produce better sustainability reports that are issued consistently and with comparable information.”

He said currently, a range of capital market stakeholders were increasingly recognising the need for more widespread and consistent ESG disclosure, and were looking to policymakers and regulators for potential solutions. With more than a decade of voluntary initiatives and thousands of large companies producing ESG reports, he noted that there is an increased focus on efforts to ensure that improved sustainability performance spreads down from leading companies to the majority who are yet to adopt ESG disclosure practices.

“At the NSE, we have a number of motivational factors for the promotion of sustainability reporting initiatives. Firstly, we understand that transparency builds trust which is a critical ingredient to a well-functioning market and economy. Secondly, It has been proven that strong ESG performance attracts the growing number of investors interested in the long-term sustainability of their investments,” he said.

Companies integrating ESG performance into their business strategy and operations, he explained, showed that the benefits ranged from improved resource efficiency, improved stakeholder relations and social licence to operate, enhanced access to markets and investor confidence, as well as product and service innovation – all leading to enhanced competitiveness.Source: http://www.punchng.com/nse-records-first-gai-n64bn-week/

PoliticsBuhari May Extend 10-day Trip — Sahara Reporters by Laredojohn(op): 6:22am On Jun 07, 2016
Health Crisis: Buhari May Extend 10-Day London Trip

SaharaReporters has exclusively learned that President Muhammadu Buhari’s urgent 10-day trip to London to treat an ear infection may be extended because he also needs attention for “a terrible cough that has persisted longer than the ear infection.”

The President began his trip on Monday. In a statement, the presidential Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, described his principal’s ear infection as “persistent”.

Last week, Mr. Buhari cancelled an official visit to Lagos State on account of the same problem, according to statements by the President’s Office at that time. He subsequently also canceled scheduled visits to Ogoni for the launch of a major clean-up campaign, and to Senegal for an ECOWAS engagement.

Sources speaking on condition of anonymity told SaharaReporters today there are about 10 persons on Mr. Buhari’s support team to London.

“This includes his [Mr. Buhari’s] physician Dr. Sanusi Rafindadi and another [medical] consultant,” the source stated.

Other members of the team include his Aide-de-Camp, Lt. Colonel Muhammed Lawal Abubakar; the State Chief of Protocol (SCOP) Lawal Kazaure; the Chief Security Officer (CSO); his Personal Assistant, and a cook.

A source also disclosed that Mr. Buhari will reside in “Abuja House,” the official residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

This source explained that the President is expected to remain in outpatient care in the days following his medical visit, which suggests that surgery may be on the cards for the Nigerian leader.
