PoliticsFG To Slash Federal Lawmakers’ Salaries by Laredojohn(op): 6:14am On Aug 26, 2015
ABUJA—Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, Mr. Elias Mbam, disclosed yesterday that the Commission had started the process of trimming down the pay packages of the President, Senators, members of the House of Representatives, governors and all the elected public officials to reflect current economic realities.

Speaking with journalists after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari,  the RMAFC Chairman said that no federal lawmaker received N1 million monthly as salary, adding that their salaries would be pruned down to reflect the current economy status.

Asked whether the parliamentarians would give a nod to the idea, the Chairman said it was a constitutional mandate, which no one should argue about.

He said: “We are here to brief the President on the activities of the commission, the challenges and the way forward.

“The President advised us to ensure that we use all legitimate means to ensure all public office holders take home remuneration as determined by the commission and also block all leakages.

“We have done a lot in informing the public on the true position of the remuneration packages. It is on our website; it is clearly written there and we have published these remuneration packages in many national dailies several times.

“We have also had interactions with the press at different fora.

“What we read on the pages of newspapers is not known to the commission because there is no member of the National Assembly, based on what we determined, who earns up to N1 million per month.

“Presently, we are reviewing the subsisting remuneration packages and it is going to reflect the socio-economic realities of today. We expect that before the end of next month, it will be ready.

“When I talk of packages, the responsibility of the commission is to determine the remuneration for political office holders, both elected and appointed, from the national level to the local government level.

“Of course, National Assembly members are elected. It will include them, it will include the judiciary, it will include the state legislature, executive and of course, the local government will be included.

“Recently, the oil price dropped. Many government agencies, the states and local governments have not been able to pay their salaries. These are some of the issues that made it necessarily to review it. It did not start with this administration; we started the review as far back as last year. It is not because of the present administration that we commenced it.
“They do not have a choice. We are guided by the constitution and we are going to be guided by such laws that are provided for in the constitution and the oath they swore to obey the laws of the country.”

Mbam, who recounted the challenges of the Commission to include insufficient funding, urged the authorities to amend the Act setting it up to grant its financial independence.

Asked when the new revenue sharing formula would be ready, the chairman said it was beyond his power to comment on.

He said: “One of the challenges is that the commission is not properly funded and we are saying that we expect that the commission should be one of the agencies of government that should have financial autonomy.

“The best way to do that is to include it as one of the agencies that will benefit from first line charge.
“The second is to give the commission the power of enforcement. They should review the Act establishing the commission so that it can have power of enforcement and sanctions on any of the defaulting MDAs.

Op I really like the way you took this topic, very great advice you can, also u didn't take it too spiritual, only made reference to the bible once, which makes it appealing to all, your points are very true and right, but this world we are nowadays has made everything seem soo difficult, but I believe it's achievable if one is determined and extra focused. Babatunde Fowler, the Executive Chairman Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue and Chief Executive Officer Lagos State Internal Revenue Service is set to be named the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

A source close to the Presidency told PM News that the giant strides of Fowler in Lagos state has landed him the top job under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The source said the announcement of Fowler will be made in the next few days, adding that, “it should be made public latest next week”.

Fowler who began his career as a marketing intern with Avon Products Inc. New York, was later employed by Johnson and Johnson in New Jersey USA, under a MBA International Development Program lasting one year, thereafter he was transferred to join Johnson and Johnson Nigeria between September 1982 and September 1983.

He made a career change from International Finance and Marketing to Banking in January 1984. In the banking industry he had the opportunity to work and also head broad and varied areas of banking operations and business development in two major commercial banks over the next 20 years.

He joined Commercial Bank (Credit Lyonnais Nigeria Limited) in January 1984, where he was exposed to all aspects of International Banking, Risk Management, and Clearing Operations. Positive reforms were introduced by him as the treasurer of the bank. He rose to the position of Apapa Branch Manager.

He left the bank for Chartered Bank in April 1990 as a Senior Manager where he spent the last 14 years in the banking industry.

Upon leaving the banking industry in 2004, Fowler joined the Lagos State Government and was appointed the pioneer Permanent Secretary/ Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue on the 24th of November 2005, thereby upgrading the office of the Executive Chairman to the highest level in the Civil Service.

Etinosajay:
Been a long time.

Didn't think I'd have cause to comment other than do my business quietly.

Chinosxl is a good guy, he is representing a company with good intentions, and enabling others do business through him too.

I acknowledge that his customer relations needs improving. I get frustrated trying to hear from him on many occasions too, but I've sorta adjusted to his modus operandi. It doesn't in any way mean he shouldn't improve on communications.

As per this incident. I urge us to encourage him to surmount this challenge. I'm joining ahmed4002, legalwealth and other patrons in here to implore us to stand with him in this. Let us remember the many times we've given him thumbs up on delivery.

This delay is not deliberate. It seems fraudulent characters are beginning to throw thorns into his rather smooth business operations.

What happens is people or "hackers" may steal cc info online and shop with them, routing them through to chinosxl address. The OP who has no reason to scrutinize ships them down here, and d happy hacker thinks he's found a breakthrough.

America being America, will always plug every gaping hole of fraud. That is what we are facing.

While we are very right to establish our frustrations, let us be kind enough to allow him time to settle this. Emails have been sent to almost every customer to provide more information especially on identification. Genuine shoppers here will not have a problem providing that. That's the co-operation we should give the OP. Its just separating the wheat from the shaft.

I would move a step further and admonish a fraction of us who are seemingly having it "good" elsewhere to not contribute in trying to run down the op's business. I doubt you'd get any satisfaction from doing that.

Every one has his or her own day, even the bible says, "let he who thinks he standeth tall, take heed lest he falls"
Bro you have said it all, chino has been delivering and he will surely do this time around, trying times are not permanent, they happen for a reason, and surely those who are causing this issues for legitimate business men and women will definately get the message that the US Government is all out for them this time around, saw this coming because , immediately i saw a shipping agent i know who gives them opportunity to do their illegal business face same challenge and had to break for like a month to settle the issues and came out with verification and authentic measures to separate them from others , i knew they would all move to chinos and also affect his business , all will be well in a matter of time, patience is the key in importing business ,Chino will deliver , he should just work on his communication .

No p, one thing is next time what you not clear about you ask, than attacking personalities, u need to go and read the story of the garbage man, so you learn you never throw your garbage on people , its exactly what am saying that is causing this...know of a very popular shipping company we all know that pass through th same issue..believe he will get over it soon.

Honestly, no one can be at rest knowing his hard earned money is trapped somewhere without a clue, I believe everyone's money is worth something no matter how little. What I can say from this whole situation is that Chinosxl is probably withholding information because he does not want to contradict himself.I believe he know what to do to get his customers happy again
But,those trying to spoil his business should please stop,it is not fair.Atleast you all have carried out successful transaction with him,
No one is spoiling his business...he just needs work out on some things, lik having a register for his shippers, with their valid identities, and also consent form where shippers sign and give him the right to handover fraudulent items to FBI, most normal shipping agents are going thru same too.
