The Managing Director of the Lekki Free Zone Ltd, Mr. Tajudeen Disu is among persons killed as Ibeju-Lekki villagers and mobile police officers clashed in Okunraiye community near Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, this morning. Tajuden Disu

The villagers said they were on a peaceful protest against "forceful takeover" of their land by the Lagos state government on behalf of Africa’s richest industrialist, Aliko Dangote and the Lekki Free Zone Ltd when policemen attacked them reportedly killing two of the protesters instantly.

The villagers said the killing resulted in a crisis.

A local chief in the area told Saharareporters that the Lekki Free Zone Ltd called in anti-riot policemen of "Mopol 49" to kill the protesters because they had insisted too long ago against forceful acquisition of the community land by the Lekki Free Zone Ltd for the construction of a large petrochemical refinery owned by Mr. Dangote. The chief said the Mopol were led and supervised to the protest scene by Managing Director of the Lekki Free Zone Ltd, Mr. Disu.

But Mr. Disu was also among those downed as the police officers guarding him and protesters clashed, according to the local chief. One of the police officers was also feared dead. The community has been taken over by soldiers reinforced to the community as the crisis escalated.

The village is currently being raided by Nigerian troops sent to the community as a result of the crisis. Many villagers have vacated the village out of fear.
Habib Aruna, who is the Chief Press Secretary to Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode told Saharareporters that the governor had just addressed the media over the crisis. HealthNo Fresh Ebola Case In Nigeria – FG by Laredojohn(op): 4:12pm On Oct 09, 2015
The Federal Government has cleared the air on the alleged outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Calabar, Cross River State.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Linus Awute, who made the clarification at a press briefing on Friday in Abuja, said the EVD scare in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital resulted from the death of a patient, who was said to have manifested the symptoms of the killer disease.

He said, “It has been investigated clinically, also using laboratory tests. The young man was down with symptoms that are similar with that of Ebola. His temperature was 37 degrees. But he had not traveled outside Calabar. His family has a case of chicken pox.

“Our experiences in Ebola containment were used. The blood samples that were collected before his death were taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State and necessary tests were conducted to ascertain if he had Lasser Fever or Ebola. As we speak, it has nothing to do with Lasser Fever and Ebola as results confirmed that it was negative. But the results of what actually killed him would be ready on Monday.”

PoliticsTribunal Upholds Gbajabiamila’s Victory by Laredojohn(op): 3:16pm On Oct 09, 2015
The Lagos State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday upheld the declaration of Femi Gbajabiamila as the winner of the March 28, 2015 House of Representatives election in the Surulere Federal Constituency 1.

The Justice C.U Anwuka-led three-man tribunal rejected the petition challenging the victory of Gbajabiamila and his party, the All Progressives Congress in the said election.

Gbajabiamila, who is now the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, had been declared winner of the said election by the Independent National Electoral Commission after polling 21, 715 votes.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tony Ashikodi, who polled 14, 550 votes to emerge the first runner-up, had however headed for the tribunal to challenge Gbajabiamila’s victory.

Ashikodi had alleged irregularities and a breach of the guidelines set out by the INEC for the conduct of the election.

He claimed that Gbajabiamila and his party did not score the highest number of valid votes in the election and should not have been declared winner by INEC.

He also claimed that the number of votes cast exceeded the number of registered voters.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Kalu Onuah, urged the court to declare the election null and void in the circumstance as stipulated by Section 53(2) Electoral Act, 2010.

But the tribunal on Friday held that the petitioner failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt, holding that the evidence adduced were not sufficient to establish the allegations raised.

The tribunal held that the petitioner did not link any of the documents tendered with his allegation of irregularities that he had raised.

The panel rejected Ashikodi’s testimony that there were multiple irregularities when he was not personally present at the collation centre.

Gbajabiamila’s counsel, Dele Adeogun, had urged the tribunal to dismiss the petitioner’s case, saying the petitioner’s counsel misrepresented facts and misconceived the law.

SportsBlatter Appeals Against Suspension by Laredojohn(op): 2:36pm On Oct 09, 2015
Joseph Blatter has appealed against his suspension by the Ethics Committee of world football body FIFA, his American lawyer Richard Cullen said on Friday.

Cullen told newsmen that Blatter’s appeal was filed Thursday to the FIFA appeal committee.

The news came after Blatter’s adviser Klaus Stoehlker had said an appeal against the provisional suspension would make no sense.

The ethics committee on Thursday banned Blatter, as well as Michel Platini, the UEFA president and FIFA vice-president, for 90 days.

The ban was in in connection with a criminal investigation by Swiss authorities.

Blatter is suspected of mismanagement and Platini is named as the recipient of a “disloyal payment” from FIFA.

Platini said on Thursday that he would appeal the ruling and, like Blatter, he has protested his innocence.

Blatter and Platini are banned from all football activities for 90 days or until the appeal committee nullifies the ban.

However, there is still the possibility of the ethics committee extending the ban for another 45 days.

Platini is a candidate for the FIFA presidency at an extraordinary congress billed for Feb. 26, but he must however first go through an integrity check.

Another potential candidate, Chung Mong-joon of South Korea, was banned for six years Thursday over other issues.

As a result of this, and according to FIFA statutes, senior vice-president Issa Hayatou of Cameroon is now the acting FIFA president.

CrimeRobbers Raid Imo Airport, Escape With N20m by Laredojohn(op): 2:20pm On Oct 09, 2015
Suspected armed robbers on Friday morning raided a micro finance bank located in the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport, as well as the offices of Arik and Air Peace Airlines in Imo State.

Over N20m and other valuables were said to have been carted away in the robbery that lasted just a few minutes.

According to an eye witness, the armed robbers who besieged the airport in two unmarked vehicles, overpowered the security men attached to the bank.

The source who stated that the noise of banging of doors and windows by the robbers coupled with their gunshots scared people away from the scene.

An employee of Arik, who didn’t want to be named, said their offices were broken into, company and personal valuables of the workers were stolen.

He said, “We are still in shock how the robbers could have been able to operate freely without being challenged, with the number of security men at the Airport, calls for serious concern because if the Airport cannot be safe, where else can be.”

Meanwhile when contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident, however, said it was a case of burglary.

According to him, “We got the report that some hoodlums broke into a Micro Finance Bank at the airport, but we did not get any report that they removed cash and no one was killed or wounded.

“Already investigation is ongoing and the the two security men attached to the bank are currently being interrogated.”

I think this come as a very big News to those who knows about Amazon and what we Nigerian have been missing out before Now.Amazon now ship just about any item to Nigeria and Kenya as part of its AmazonGlobal program.

What this means is that you no longer have to use a third party address like USAADRESSNIGERIA and others. You sit at the comfort of your Home, and choose from the over 10million products on Amazon, place your order and wait for it to be delivered to you.

Amazon even makes shopping more easy and fun by estimating the custom duty of your order during checkout, so you pay the applicable fee via Amazon and the product delivered directly to your doorsteps with no hassle.

What more could we have asked for? I think this is a wake up call For Jumia and Konga .

PoliticsPresident Buhari’s 55th Independence Speech - Full Text by Laredojohn(op): 7:12am On Oct 01, 2015
October 1st is a day for joy and celebrations for us Nigerians, whatever the circumstances we find ourselves in because it is the day, 55 years ago; we liberated ourselves from the shackles of colonialism and began our long march to nationhood and to greatness.

“No temporary problems or passing challenges should stop us from honouring this day. Let us remind ourselves of the gifts God has given us. Our Creator has bequeathed to us Numbers – Nigeria is the ninth most populated country on the planet. We have in addition arable land; water; forests; oil and gas; coastline; and solid minerals

“We have all the attributes of a great nation. We are not there yet because the one commodity we have been unable to exploit to the fullest is unity of purpose. This would have enabled us to achieve not only more orderly political evolution and integration but also continuity and economic progress.

“Countries far less endowed have made greater economic progress by greater coherence and unity of purpose.

“Nonetheless, that we have remained together is an achievement we should all appreciate and try to consolidate. We have witnessed this year a change in our democratic development.

“The fact that an opposition party replaced an entrenched government in a free and fair election is indicative of the deeper roots of our democratic system. Whatever one’s views are, Nigerians must thank former President Jonathan for not digging-in in the face of defeat and thereby saving the country untold consequences.

“As I said in my inaugural speech, I bear no ill will against anyone on past events. Nobody should fear anything from me. We are not after anyone. People should only fear the consequences of their actions. I hereby invite everyone, whatever his or her political view to join me in working for the nation.

“My countrymen and women, every new government inherits problems. Ours was no different. But what Nigerians want are solutions, quick solutions not a recitation of problems inherited.

“Accordingly, after consultations with the Vice President, senior party leaders and other senior stakeholders, I quickly got down to work on the immediate, medium-term and long-term problems which we must solve if we are to maintain the confidence which Nigerians so generously bestowed on us in the March elections and since then.

“As you know, I toured the neighbouring countries, marshalled a coalition of armed forces of the five nations to confront and defeat Boko Haram. I met also the G-7 leaders and other friendly presidents in an effort to build an international coalition against Boko Haram.

“Our gallant armed forces under new leadership have taken the battle to the insurgents, and severely weakened their logistical and infrastructural capabilities. Boko Haram are being scattered and are on the run.

“That they are resorting to shameless attacks on soft targets such as I.D.P. camps is indicative of their cowardice and desperation. I have instructed security and local authorities to tighten vigilance in vulnerable places.

On power, government officials have held a series of long sessions over several weeks about the best way to improve the nation’s power supply in the safest and most cost-effective way.

“In the meantime, improvement in the power supply is moderately encouraging. By the same token, supply of petrol and kerosene to the public has improved throughout the country. All the early signs are that within months the whole country would begin to feel a change for the better.

“Preliminary steps have been taken to sanitize NNPC and improve its operations so that the inefficiency and corruption could be reduced to a minimum.

“Those of our refineries which can be serviced and brought back into partial production would be enabled to resume operations so that the whole sordid business of exporting crude and importing finished products in dubious transactions could be stopped.

“In addition to NNPC, I have ordered a complete audit of our other revenue generating agencies mainly CBN, FIRS, Customs, NCC, for better service delivery to the nation. Prudent house-keeping is needed now more than ever in view of the sharp decline in world market oil prices. It is a challenge we have to face squarely. But what counts is not so much what accrues but how we manage our resources.

“We have seen in the last few years how huge resources were mismanaged, squandered and wasted. The new APC government is embarking on a clean up, introducing prudence and probity in public financing.

“At an early stage, the federal government addressed the issue of salary arrears in many states, a situation capable of degenerating into social unrest. The APC government stepped in to provide short-term support to the debtor states and enabled them to pay off the backlog and restore the livelihood of millions of Nigerians.

“Fellow Nigerians, there have been a lot of anxiety and impatience over the apparent delay in announcement of ministers. There is no cause to be anxious. Our government set out to do things methodically and properly. We received the handing over notes from the outgoing government only four days before taking over. Consequently, the Joda Transition Committee submitted its Report on the reorganization of Federal Government structure after studying the hand over notes. It would have been haphazard to announce ministers when the government had not finalized the number of ministries to optimally carry the burden of governance.

“Anyway, the wait is over. The first set of names for ministerial nominees for confirmation has been sent to the senate. Subsequent lists will be forwarded in due course. Impatience is not a virtue. Order is more vital than speed. Careful and deliberate decisions after consultations get far better results. And better results for our country is what the APC government for CHANGE is all about.
“I would like to end my address this morning on our agenda for CHANGE. Change does not just happen. You and I and all of us must appreciate that we all have our part to play if we want to bring change about. We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust. We must change our unruly behaviour in schools, hospitals, market places, motor parks, on the roads, in homes and offices. To bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.
“Happy Independence Celebrations. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
