Based on what I read on it , the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) claimed salaries of public officials , judicial officers and elected officials have not been reviewed since 2007 and that it was due for upward review this year . Somehow they are proposing a 114% pay rise .

I guess this particular matter will determine if Tinubu is any different from other presidents in the past. If they are telling us they need to remove petrol subsidy , let go education subsidy and make other tough sacrifices because Nigeria don’t have the money to continue with them, it will be totally wicked and selfish to go ahead with the new pay rise they are proposing for now . It will only mean they want the rich to keep getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

Someone like Senator Abiru of Lagos East senatorial district was the MD of a commercial bank where he resigned and contested for vacant senate seat. People like that are already made . It will be sheer wickedness for people of his caliber to get 114% pay rise while the common man in the streets( some of whom campaigned and voted for him) sink deeper down the poverty line .

I want to believe they will step it down, if not for anything but for the bad PR it will give their government
Abiru get money.

Can someone clarify this electricity tariff? If I buy enough to last me for one year before 1st of July, am I exempt from the increase?

Or the rate of consumption will increase regardless.
You should be exempted.

But a new tariff isn't started on July 1, what's happening in July is the review of the tariff by NERC and the industry stakeholders. It will take a while maybe months for them to come to an agreement sef.

The current democratic dispensation is only 23 years old, at some point there'd be a back to back power transition either from the North or South.
Muslims dey South and North, that one no be talk.

No region will do back to back 8yrs. It's not possible

Nigeria is for everyone. Whether South or North.

When OBJ was the president, most of the service chiefs and top positions (CBN/NNPC)were headed by Southerners and Christians. Our Muslim brothers from the North waited for their time and when they got it, gave most of the juicy position to their people too.
They waited it began shouting marginalization songs? 😂

Na normal thing sha, in the next 6-1yr, I expect alot of marginalization shouts from the North same way the South was shouting Marginalization during Buhari period.

BREAKING: PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU APPROVES DISSOLUTION OF BOARDS OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PARASTATALS, AGENCIES, INSTITUTIONS AND GOVERNMENT-OWNED COMPANIES

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Governing Boards of all Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies in the exercise of its Constitutional Powers and in the Public interest.

The dissolution does not, however, affect Boards, Commissions and Councils listed in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

In view of this development and until such a time new boards are constituted, the Chief Executive Officers of the Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies are directed to refer matters requiring the attention of their Boards to the President, through the Permanent Secretaries of their respective supervisory Ministries and Offices.

Permanent Secretaries are directed, also, to route such correspondences to Mr President through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Consequently, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies are to ensure compliance to the provision of this directive which took effect from Friday 16th June, 2023.

Permanent Secretaries are particularly directed to inform the Chief Executive Officers of the affected Agencies under the supervision of their respective Ministries/Offices for immediate compliance.

Willie Bassey
Director, Information

I’m all up for this . I know too many comfortable people who don’t pay tax . So it irks me anytime anybody mentions paying more tax when I know full well it’s those of us that are already paying that will be burdened with more tax while those not paying still won’t pay .
This was exactly what Tinubu advised Buhari to do when they wanted to increase VAt rate then. Expand the tax net and make sure those are taxable are paying their taxes.

I trust Tinubu to deliver on this sha. Hopefully they eliminate double taxation also.

Who says both investing in the SMEs and considerable reforms in monetary policies cannot be done simultaneously ? As for fiscal policy, we never ready for this country. A country where we don't know some rich people like Iyabo Ojo don't pay their taxes up to date until they have issues with people in government ? Let the inland revenue services be serious about their jobs of revenue collection for a year, let there be no sacred cows including people in government and let's see if the government won't have more money to spend.
Both can work together if the funds us available. We practically borrowed to fund our budget last year because subsidy and loan repayment has eaten up without revenue we got.

Meanwhile Iyabo Ojo has been having issues with LIRS since 2019 concerning her unpaid taxes, it didnt start this year.

Remember we had this argument last year when I said the govt should increase its tax net and you mistakenly thought I was saying the govt should increase tax when all I was saying was the govt should make sure that those who are taxable are paying the tax that is due to them.

How has this affected our economy positively in the last 8 years ? As far as I'm concerned the so called MSME clinic is o different from the illusionary Rice pyramid show that was put together for photo ops.

Data available has shown that more Nigerians slipped further down the poverty line under Buhari's "regime".

Business day newsprint had this to say about Buhari and his big talks and little or no results to show for it"

Whatever diagnosis these so called MSME clinics have done in the past 8 years certainly have not been treated cos the symptoms like declining economy growth, high inflation and unemployment rates etc. are still visible to the blind and audible to the deaf
This is the point I'm trying to make, investing in the SMEs is not the solution to anything without considerable reforms in most of policies that affect us both fiscal and monetary.

Lols..

Am really happy u understand that money can be generated from there..

For a better argument,I would like we omit Obi.
I think an FG that understands the issue of Nigeria will not be in a rush.....

The refinery and steel companies as at today serve as a liabilities cos it still gulps some amount of cash from d FG pockets thru salaries and allowances..putting up for sales willn only generate revenues to put ur plans in place.

If you plan to improve SMEs,...the plan can wait until this revenue is generated.

If after this, you see improvements in reality, you can then proceed to generate more revenue tru tax and phase removal of say subsidy that will hit the common man ....

Might be wrong sha.....
Prosper post that I responded with was a screenshot of what Obi said about taxation.

We are currently running a budget deficit, which means we dont even have enough money to fund our budget without borrowing, you saying the govt should not bother investing in the SMEs until they can generate revenue right?

I actually agree that most of the refineries should be sold to private investors but they are currently doing maintenance on those refineries which means you will have to wait till whatever they are doing is done so you can be able to get reasonable book value for them. Ditto for Ajaokuta Stell.

So if removing subsidy is put on hold, where do you get the funds to continue to pay the subsidy, for the first 6 months of this month, our subsidy payment on fuel is 2.7 trillion which we havent paid sef. That's almost a quarter of our yearly budget. Where do you get the funds to continue paying for it? Borrow?

What period of time do you think will be used to measure improvement of the SME? How will be the benchmark?

Keep in mind that nothing you've said can be done in 3 week though
