sod09: Are you saying it's not possible 2014 to date is 9 years I have someone that finished nysc that year and still jobless More over why should a graduate settle for less like raumdeuter said because if it's getting menial jobs that pay minimum wage he should be able to get one in no time That's why amendment can be made to a bill, like I said in the morning, I'll prefer the repayment to starts whenever the students starts earning income. Because the economy was bad from 2014 till now doesn't mean the economy cannot experience boom that will bring in jobs (or turn for the worse as well). The argument that students won't get job 7 to 10yrs from now to start repayment of their loans because of the rate of unemployment currently doesn't really hold water for me. |

Segedinho: It is very simple and straightforward the way you wrote it until you enter street and see realities..
Let take a 5year course for instance baring strike...
5 years + 1 year NYSC=6 year gone...with our unemployment rate..you need to be ahead of others by learning new things to spice up ur CV (let say 1 year gone)....,then d next phase is facing age barrier as well as "malnourished connection".....
All this, while you are in the street trying to make a ljving for survival.
My set for example(we still in connection tru wassap.. none of us got pet job..I mean not even one (we had 3 first class)...many have to go into biz...yahoo....japa...politics.n bank jobs wch took another more years after waiting for pet job.
Baba.....Nigeria reality will shock you.... Uncle you are practically saying the realities now will be the same in 7yrs, that's what you are saying. Please pray tell uncle Sege, why is it that in your own crystal ball, you cant see an improved economy in the next 7yrs? The student loan is not for those that have already gone to school, it's for those that just want to school. I dont know the kind of mentality you have towards life tho, because if you expect the way things are now to be the same way it will be in the next 7 to 10yrs, I dont know what to say to you bro.. In the next 7 to 10yrs, things can either turn out to be good or to out to be worse, you can plan your life on it be worse tho while those who want can plan their life on it being good. Lastly, the loan is optional, nobody is forcing anybody to take the loan. If you think you wont get job in the next 7yrs, go and learn handwork and prosper in your own way. |

So larride what say you on this issue of our Lawmaker talking about influencing his wife since you have responded 🤭 No be new thing say husband dey influence wife judgement. Even some of the judges that are men, there are going to be lot of cases that their wife influence their judgement. It's wrong in its entirety but na so humans be. Mary Odili, the wife of Peter Odili was the one that gave a restraining order against efcc from investigating or prosecuting his husband Peter Odili. The efcc has been trying to vacate that order for more than 10yrs now unsuccessfully. Hopefully now that shes retired, efcc will be able to vacate the order. Mary Odili was also the lead justice in the Supreme Court Bayelsa Governorship case that sacked a duly elected David Lyon and install Diri a PDP candidate because of difference in names in certificate of the deputy governor-elect of APC. Peter Odili is a strong PDP man. You can make the connection. I'm surprised that you are surprised at the revelation tho. |

The argument about job to pay back the loan still dey funny me tbh.
Any body that takes the student loan will have to go to school for 4yrs or more depending on the course the person study, do nysc and still have another extra 2yrs before repayment starts.
For example, someone that takes the loan to study Accounting in University this year 2023 will only starts repayments on 2030.
Are you people saying in 7yrs time, the person that take the loan wont be able to get a job?
I'll like you people crystal ball sha. |

Olowunl01: Tax is a highly emotive subject; I just paid CGT with all deductible + small jara still ended up paying around 20% even though I am Non UK domiciled cos I sold off an apartment I bought many years ago due to too much wahala and how it complicates my tax filing here. I am also very annoyed at having to pay for private health insurance in the country I live now when I have paid atleast 2 decades of NI contributions.
I take data coming out about Nigeria with a pinch of salt; look again at the bolded statement and tell me how it adds up? Is it a failure of govt to collect it from the identified 72% or perharps it was collected unofficially or the figure is a mere extrapolation based on the population? Baba sha no wan pay tax. 😂 |

BlueRayDick: I will not speak of things I don’t know . Around 2018 I was privileged to see the loan documents of some top commercial bank’s loan to Dangote group .
As at then I knew the funds were disbursed and with a structured repayment plan well spelt out which required the Dangote Group to service its loans as at when due .
What I’m saying here is Dangote group got the loan and has obviously been servicing that loan to extent of its balance dropping to the figures emefiele quoted .
How Emefiele messed up was making the whole thing look like Dangote Refinery ( a subsidiary of Dangote Group ) has been paying back a loan taken for its establishment even when it has not commenced operation . We all know that makes no sense hence why u actually think it’s funny .
In lay man’s terms : Na Dangote know wetin him dey do for him other businesses to have been able to use proceeds from there to sort his loan payment for the refinery project . PS: If u ask him , he will ask u to wait for his autobiography to read the secret inside You don type too much, Prosper na Dangote group CFO so he knows how much they make and how they service their loan. You no suppose dey entertain this kind of argument tbh. |

Justice Bulkachukwu was not on the bench. I dont understand your first screenshot because you are highlighting names of Supreme Court. Justice that ruled against Akpabio, so tell us Prosper, is it that the Court of Appeal is higher than the Supreme Court? Your screenshot is saying something else and you are saying something else. Olowunl01: Yes, if they take their time to look at the complaints of their fellow students in US or UK on the impact of such loans, then add the Naija environment to it, they should be out on the street protesting. The major problem of the US student loan is the ridiculous interest. This one is actually interest free, which means you only pay back the money borrowed, no accrued interest. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 12:26pm On Jun 13, 2023 |
Olowunl01: That is because the average Nigerian is not ready, we don't look out for the majority and are too blinded by religious, tribal or party affiliations, especially when we view we are not impacted negatively.
That such a bill is being signed without robust protest and challenge by civil society including student union is a crying shame.. But this is exactly what ASUU has been clamoring for. This means each university can charge fees they consider is enough for their infrastructural development and lecturer welfare. It will basically eliminate poor lecturer welfare and decrepit infrastructure. |

iamoyindamola: For the first time, i agree with the guy above, this was my thought too If we consider minimum wage and jobs available the students won't be able to pay up within that 2 years And i hope the student loan won't end up like npower scam dbanj and his crew did You are not expected to pay up after 2yrs, the repayments starts after 2yrs at 10% of your fixed income or 10% of profit. The amendment I'll like to see is that the repayment should starts anytime the students start earning income. They are actually going to review the minimum wage. I saw somewhere yesterday that they are proposing 70k as the new minimum wage. The problem is if State Governors can or will pay the reviewed minimum wage. Some states are still paying 18k against the approved 30k by the FG. The Salary review committee should just allow each states to review and set their own minimum wage. A state like Ebonyi should not be paying the same minimum wage as Lagos or PH. |

BlueRayDick: The student loan move is an applaudable move from the Tinubu’s administration , it’s just that I have a few reservations about its workability and it serving the purpose it was designed for .
I heard it was Gbajabiamala that sponsored the bill. Personally I believe Gbaja is in discordant tunes with the current economic realities . For example , that 500k per annum family income cieling set by the bill is not good enough . 500k per annum when divided by 12 is less than 42k per month . If u say earning 42k or lesser per month as a family is what qualifies a family member for the loan, what happens to a family of 5 that earns 85k per month , pays house rent , utility bills and have next to nothing to save at the end of the month ? Cant their son or daughter benefit from the loan too ?
I think our elected officials need to know about Time Value of money so they can put it into cognisance when sponsoring bills .
Also I would like for government to provide grace for people who don’t get jobs within 2 years of graduation about how to pay back their loans when they eventually get jobs or go into self employment . We all know getting jobs as a fresh graduate nowadays is very tedious . I remember a friend in school who was on 2.1 but a lecturer he had issue with scored him E in a course he should have scored at least B grade . He finshed with 2.2 and it cost him 3 good years before he got a graduate trainee role cos of the grade requirements . So people like that who have loans to pay back to the system can take time to hustle without having their names called out like Palmpay does their debtors .
If all these issues are addressed ……I’m all in for the student loan bill . Make government just make sure people pay back the loan before they japa . Nobody should have a student loan outstanding in Nigeria and have their visas abroad approved. Valid observation but Tolu says the drafts that's been shared online is the old version so we have to wait for the signed document by the President Some of the requirements needs to change and the loan repayment should only start when someone starts earning income. I like the fact that the loan will be paid to the school account though, it eliminates students using the money for something else. |
