With our low testing numbers and the "global shortage" of test kits, I don't see Nigeria testing dead bodies. Well Kano State Government says the death are not related to Covid-19. They says death are from hypertension, acute malaria, meningitis out break. Whether it’s true or not, remains to be seen. |

If testing of those alive is on hold, how would they now test those dead to find out wot if they died as a result of covid19 or not?
All we've got to go on for now is assumptions because the State Government is yet to try to find out wot the cause of the deaths are... The testing lab was contaminated and all samples were sent to Abuja for testing. The government can claim those bodies and get samples from them to be tested before they are buried. |

Emmynator: In my opinion, ASUU are the ones prolonging these issues. The proposed UTAS was not rejected by FG, the gov only gave an 18 months timeframe for the development, initialization and implementation of the UTAS system. The major disagreement was on whether ASUU will register on ippis for the time being, ASUU refused, stating that it's members should not be obligated to register, while the gov disagreed. Note that ASUU and fg had reached an understanding on uother issues. If the government promised to not only improve the ippis to fit the perculairities of ASUU, but also to develop the utas system, then what is the problem of ASUU? Lack of trust? Lol. Lastly, not all lecturers are happy with the way the indefinate strike was announced, as the members were not consulted for feedback, the execs just took the decision. I stand with fg on this one, ASUU are either trying to flex muscles or are hiding s6mething. They are even against dropping their BVN to get their Feb and March salary. That should tell you everything you need to know. The BVN will expose those drawing multiple full time salary from different universities. |

Considering the fact that those that embraced the system previously are having a change of heart, does this give credence to the claims by ASUU? I expect you to insist otherwise sha A simple question, who has been paying those allowances before now? |

They didn't make that themselves The act establishing University gives them autonomy on management of the university by the University senate. If they don’t want government to dictate the platform they use to get their salary, they should start generating revenue to pay their salaries. |

The federal government has been known to not honor agreements in the past. So the lecturers will not just enter sign on to the IPPIS like FG wants them to without having their raised issues resolved.
And talks about the federal government being the employer and lecturers being employees is stale already. The federal government knows they can't afford to sack them. Who will fill their shoes?
Shey na the ones wey Don dey private university dey Enjoy better terms of service or the ones abroad living the best of their life? The FG better humble and do the needful Let the government calls for mass sack and mass recruitment first, then you will see those will will fill their shoes. Did you also read it from the link that even COEASU saying they won’t join UTAS also unless it meet their own peculiarities? ASUU is not the only trade unions with peculiarities, every other agencies with their peculiarities are enrolled on IPPIS and it has been paying them without issues, ASUU own won’t be different. BlueRayDick: This Ur talk about the allowances added at the click of a button is rubbished by the claim of few people paid via the platform in February and how they complained bitterly in the link I posted and the screenshot posted by Swissh.
The federal government has stated it that they are not comfortable with what they called "double salary" being paid some of the lecturers. The lecturers have explained these payment/allowances countless times. But Buhari's government in a bid to be seen as cutting costs thinks these "double salary" should be a thing of the past. Their body language shows this and that is why the lecturers will not subscribe to the platform.
It is as simple as that.
If the government wants to be seen as one which cuts cost let them stop ministries from budgeting for official cars every year, let them look into hundreds of contacts they award every year.......
These are lecturers who beg, plead and even use strike to force the government's hands to invest little in tertiary education while government waste money on frivolities like sponsoring Hadjj, pilgrimage to Jerusalem and what have u.
On this one ó, I stand with ASUU OK. |

I just don't get why u think FG cannot renegade on their promises if they've been doing it for years. It's like u honestly think this Buhari government is different from others or maybe even better bá? I already stated that the major issue was the 2.5% National Housing contributory fund that was deducted from their salary. Saying the government didn’t pay those on sabbatical is a lie. I have someone currently on sabbatical and yet still receive his salary. His own major grouse is the deductions. These are not promises, ASUU are not the one paying themselves, it is the government that has been paying them, if it’s in their terms of contract, government will pay it. |

Obviously their points were not considered and the FG wants them to sign on to the whole IPPIS stuff as if amongst these people there are no lawyers who understand the implication of signing on to a contract u are not in total agreement to.
The federal government is just trying to pain.the lecturers bad when everybody knows how rotten the government is.
Thank God there is free press in Nigeria which allows the lecturers to air their own side of the story, if not this government will just be throwing propaganda upon propaganda ni First, their excuse was that they won’t enroll if CBN, FIRS, NNPC don’t enroll on the platform. When that was trashed out, they moved to another excuse. Their second excuse was that they have autonomy, they were all quoting the law establishing various universities until the government told them they should go and generate their revenue and pay themselves then. Their third excuse now is that IPPIS doesn’t recognize their benefit when infact these so called allowances will be added to platform with just a click. |

BlueRayDick: The doctor example does not rubbish anything. Do medical doctors go on sabbaticals? Do u know lecturers going on sabbatical allows them to continue to draw salary from their primary employer as well as get paid by the university they go to teach during their sabbatical?
This is one of the peculiarities which IPPIS does not capture and is not willing to capture. The FG is not disposed to the idea of these lecturers drawing salary from two sources, but there nothing they do about it. The act establishing universities allowed for this.
What I don't understand is why the government thinks they are smarter than university dons and want to goad them on to subscribe to the IPPIS arrangement which will rob them of these benefits. The problem is u think ASUU is the problem when they clearly are not in this case.
If the government is willing to not only take these peculiarities into consideration but also accommodate it, there is no way the lecturers will not adopt the system.
The funny thing is the government whether this present one or the future one will accede to the lecturers demands and u won't hear any noise again.
Read below explanation of the sabbatical peculiarity as applied to University lecturers Lol. Before now, who was paying these sabbatical before? Was it not the government? You are talking as if these things are rocket science or payment system are static. Almost all companies who go on sabbatical still continue to draw their salary during the period they are on leave. On this sabbatical, The Director in charge of IPPIS already clarified it. Everyone of them will be registered under the university that they draw their basic salary from. When they are on sabbatical and going to teach in another university, it’s for the school to send the names of those going on said sabbatical and which school are they will be “visiting” and their names will be added under the university as a visiting lecturer and their allowances will still be paid. This is one fight ASUU won’t win. |

Was it not the same government? Or where are they getting those allowances from? IPPIS is just a mechanism to pay them, it doesn’t stop their salary or allowances. If the military can enroll on IPPIS, what’s ASUU? The thing is, the large % of them are receiving salary from 2 or more different universities which will no longer be possible on IPPIS. |

BlueRayDick: I was also like you thinking the ASUU guys are deliberately jeopardizing our tertiary education sector with their unreasonable demands until I got an insight into their concerns and fears as regards the IPPIS.
Below is what my friend who happens to be a lecturer wrote on the IPPIS issue in Facebook. (I had to crop out his name)
I hope u can read it with an open mind and understand what the stand of the lecturers are. Using Doctors as a ref has rubbished everything he stated as reason for not joining IPPIS. Doctors on federal payroll are currently paid through IPPIS. They have been for quite some time now. IPPIS does not pay just salary, it pays allowances also. Dr Joe Abah (Former Director General of Bureau of Public Reforms) has said it mutilple time that the leadership of ASUU are the one misleading their members, IPPIS as a payment system is not static, each MDAs has their subset, ASUU members will be a subset under the Education ministry. Those that have enrolled, are they not getting paid? Police and other para military are getting their basic salary and allowance through this same IPPIS. Even the Military has been directed to all enroll. |

TiAd: Are you aware there are series of deductions made from the salaries of university, polytechnic, and college lecturers, who joined IPPIS at the beginning of the year?
FG seems to be dishonest about this IPPIS thing, especially when it comes to people in academia. FG is deducting tax and other contributing funds from source. From those I have interacted with, the only deduction that seems new to them is the 2.5% mortgage contributory scheme. Most of them know nothing about that mortgage fund. Now these are the kind of questions they should ask, not saying IPPIS can’t cater for their peculiarities. It’s not even that IPPIS is a new thing, it was conceptualized by Obasanjo in 2006 and went live in 2007. It’s run on an Oracle application. The idea of IPPIS is to have an integrated payment system and enable the government to know each MDAs staff strength. ASUU are hiding something. Enroll on IPPIS them say no, Oya bring your BVN to process your withheld salary so you can take care of your families during this pandemic, they still say No. nah they are trying hard to hide something. |

BlueRayDick: I already gave a response to Dayo which I believe should cover the point u raised here.
The government did wrong by withholding their salary when they know they are still on the negotiation table. The government proposed IPPIS, ASUU rejected it and proposed UTAS instead which they believe took care of the peculiarities of the tertiary education sector emoluments.
There was a stalemate with both parties claiming their own software system is best suited for the accountability and transparency the government plans to achieve.
The government applied the stick by withholding their salary. Now they want to pay and the lecturers insist they get paid the normal way it's been done in the past pending when they both agree on the IPPIS/UTAS payment solution.
I don't think there is anything wrong in this. The government has shown they can't be trusted in the past and the lecturers are not taking chances. They believe if they get paid tru BVN, the government might as well use that to drag them back to the IPPIS which they have vehemently rejected.
I hope u understand their stand now The government gave them a deadline to enroll and the deadline has passed. There’s nothing special about their peculiarities. It won’t even take anything to set them up. Medical doctors who receive all kind of allowance are on the system also. The military are also going to be enrolled on the system. What exactly is that peculiarities that IPPIS cannot solve? I hope you know there are some of their memebers that have enrolled on this IPPIS and they have been getting their salary? Government has every right to withhold their salary because they failed to compile with the directive that’s meant to process their payment. As long as ASUU members are employees of government, they cannot dictate how the government or which payment system the government should use to pay them. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by larride(m): 11:00pm On Apr 22, 2020 |
BlueRayDick: ASUU are not foools who would out rightly reject the government's offer on the IPPIS because they want to get stuck on the old ways of doing things, they gave reasons for rejecting IPPIS.
Not only did they just reject the IPPIS, they gave an alternative system/platform which they believe is simpler to implement and will achieve the accountability as well as eliminate ghost workers getting paid, which of course is what the government claims IPPIS seeks to achieve.
See link below for more details about the alternative system :
https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/12/27/ASUU-proposes-alternative-to-ippis/amp
Their metting was a stalemate earlier, the government used the stick by withholding their salary which obviously angered them and has led to distrust ; hence they won't be buying the BVN story for now You actually think a payment system like IPPIS is static? The Accountant general has said it repeatedly that the system can take on their peculiarities and it will be factored into the system when registering them. Is IPPIS not paying those that has enrolled? There are non teaching staff of universities already on IPPIS, there are teaching staff of college of education and poly also on the system and IPPIS is paying them, so what exactly is the peculiarities that ASUU are shouting about? It’s even funny they are proposing a payment platform the government should use to pay them. They are employees of govt. they didn’t employ themselves. Let all other agencies should kuku start proposing their own payment system for the government to pay them. |
