There is this bore hole that was done near a swampy area, the water a first was having odour but after pumping, the odour reduces but cam still be smelt and also there is traces of iron in the water. What are the methods to be used to get rid of the odour and the iron

The aquifer is likely to be brackish. Reverse osmosis might solve the problem but it's not guaranteed due to the high concentration of desolved metals in the water. Reverse osmosis is in the range of 1.5 to 2.5m

I will advise you conduct a geophysical investigation to know the depth to drill to a fresh water aquifer, though there might still be little contamination but simple treatment will be able to fix that.

Cost of drilling a borehole there should be around 150k. Though I always advice to conduct a Geophysical investigation first B4 consulting the driller. The investigation is done btw 30-50k.

Going for well too is a good option. It ll definitely work. And her land is not that big, I don't think she ll need lot of water like that. She can even make use of hose to irrigate

Tomatoes doesn't have much stress growing, it should do just fine.

The test kit might not be needed now, but it's always good to have it some one can know how his land nutrients is being used. It's still good to compare other readings with the pH. The pH might be giving you a good result yet something is still lacking. It might be irrelevant but it can save from a heart attack.

If the irrigation system is properly done, irrigation time might just be 20min/day even less.

All the cost spent ll definitely be generated back from sales, the cost for vegetables are higher in dry season. And when raining season comes the price fall.

Nice one sis, try to get a continuous source of water first. Borehole drilling in ikorodu can't be that costly. If it's a virgin land you don't have to worry about soil testing. You can just try to get a simple soil test kits for for personal use on the farm. The kit ll let you know how you are degrading the soil nutrients as a result of your farming. It should give you information on the npk content, moisture and pH. I don't think you have much stress. Go for vegetables, Lagos needs more of this.

Thanks. I tried few juveniles in the water. They hardly eat and their skin peels. One of the fishes became bloated and stay alive but swim upside down.They were not responding well.I will take the water for lab test. Do you now any lab test preferably closer to satellite town or festac.

Is that the water from festac? I don't know any lab around that place, I run my analysis in ib/ìfẹ́. You can check unilag they should ve a facility for that

EC is electrical conductivity, the test kit can be gotten anywhere they are selling plumbing materials or chemicals. I am just saying the treatment you ll do to make your water OK for the fishes shouldn't be expensive. Ordinary filtering could solve it.

You can as well consult a lab for comprehensive analysis. They ll check for the physical, chemical and biological properties in the water. And as well specify the treatment required if any

I have another borehole that is not salty and the ph is ok for fish 6.5 - 7. The problem with the water is that is not clear to see bottom of a bucket. To make it clear for useage we use alum to treat it. To get the right ph for fish farm, lime will be included. My question is that can I still make profit going through water treatment if I start catfish farm business.

Maybe your water is brackish or hard, the treatment you ll do shouldn't be that expensive, maybe btw 100k to 150k. It's not going to be the reverse osmosis treatment that is very expensive (like 1.5m to 2m) but try to get a test kit that can give you temperature, EC and pH. If every of those is favorable to your fish I don't think you need any treatment. The test kit is around 15k or less.
