What a shame?
Some decades ago, this kind of discussion wouldn't have occurred. That was when Yorubas had leaders who were truly interested in their region. Unfortunately, we've been corrupted by cultures that place no value on integrity, hardwork, and objectivity in the guise of politics and religion, to the extent today, there's virtually no difference between Yorubas and their fellow countrymen. Yorubas have lost it. We need to go back to the drawing board and reinvigorate our value system. By then, people will be be willing to pay to join us. When we had regional government, I'm sure no one wlll compare his region to the SW. The elites today in other regions got their education from the SW.
First of all, we must accept as a people that we've lost that touch that gave us the HUGE edge over others and go back to the drawing boards. Our value system had no place for corrupt while those we're comparing ourselves with on this thread idolize corruption; they're not even aware anything is wrong with it. That shows how much we've fallen.
In all honesty, that map is provocative. They have the right to react the way they did. I know the attachment Yorubas have with Itsekiri, there can always be a way out in case of an eventuality. The Binis have told us point blank they're not our brothers in recent times, so, why regard them as your people(I know when the time comes, the chicken will come home to roost), why include them in your map?
Perhaps, a historian drew the map. Yes, I have no doubt 70% of the tribes in west africa, not just Nigeria, have a common origin, in the Niger confluence region, from where we dispersed and languages separated. But then, realities of today and interests have made us different peoples.
Guy, do you have any proof that the said map was drawn by a Yoruba man, or a pan-Yoruba cultural association, or a Yoruba political group?? huh If you do, please give me their contact details, so I can give them a piece of my mind for including other ethnic groups that bear no relationship with them, into that silly map! I don't think anyone is laying claim to Izon or Ijaw least the Yoruba. Some Ijaw are in Ondo State but have no land there. Just like Fulani, the Ijaw are migrants in many parts of southern Nigeria and there's no way they can proof the ownership of anywhere in Edo and Ondo state.
The coastal areas from Escravos Warri to Edo and Ondo state do not have any Izonland.
I do not think Yoruba want to claim Ijaw but has been affirming their kinsmen the Itsekiri.
This statement by the Ijaw is deliberate message to Itsekiri and Edo, trying to affirm ownership and I will advise that they perish the idea.

Now on a more pragmatic level, who really need who? Compare what ijaw have to the Yoruba in all ramifications, they are not mates;is it productive landmass good for agriculture, population with good purchasing power, educated population, already organized communities in terms of economic power, what are the ijaw fighting for?
1. Crude oil: The exclusive land area the ijaw can claim is Forcados to Bayelsa and maybe some areas of Kalabari in Rivers. They can make do with their resources and lets see how many decades it take them to be like the Yoruba or Igbo. Other ethnic groups have oil too, by the time your Nigeria is fully divided(I don't advocate for such) you will know that Yoruba and Igbo has oil than you can think. This is also applicable to natural gas.
2.Warri: Former oil capital of Nigeria, wealthy oil potentials and location of a refinery and proposed gas FTZ, the ijaw can't claim the one at Porthacourt and so looking at warri will to them be a good starting point. Now, if the Itsekiri should stand with Yoruba it will be zero probability of getting what they want. The Gelegele at Edo is slipping away already and consolidating through Toru-Ibe is a dead dream, the ijaw are led largely by youths who just want economic empowerment but with little grasp of history and diplomacy.

What options do they really have if they want an Ijaw country?
Live in peace with their neighbors, hold to those undisputed areas and trade away those disputed areas for strong economic and cultural ties because they can't win the Yoruba or the Edo in eventuality. They need to consolidate on their areas in Rivers and Beayelsa else they may be fighting battles against all their big neighbors and they can't win.
So, what would the Yoruba want from ijaw apart from oil, don't think there's anything and its not looking like Oduduwa will want to include the Ijaw even though historically the ijaw claim ife and, when the value of oil becomes less and less a driving force, the ijaw will see the light.
happy Sunday to all.
My take is let the Izon live in peace with all their neighbors, negotiate a confederation with any big side and you will win from both sides.
Chief Adebanjo never laid claim to the Ijaws or Izon in his interview. sad Please read exactly what the man said. So why are the Ijaw leaders getting their knickers in a twist and accusing the Yoruba people of wanting to colonise them, or force them into their proposed republic?? Something is fishy, o! Can you chaps explain it to the non-Yoruba folks like us? undecided

awelekiti:
point of correction, ijaw land isn't in ondo state rather, they migrated to ondo state centuries ago to engage in their business of fishing. Ijaws are predominantly fishermen and women and they carry out their fishing activities along the coastal areas the niger-delta, including that of ondo state. Look and the map, it's crystal clear. I don't know why the afenifere leader is jumping the entire edo state to claim ijaw is part of us. It's a joke which everybody should ignore. If he says itsekiri is part of oduduwa, it would have made sense because they migrated from Ondo centuries ago to settle in that area. This is evident in their dialect and likewise their names.
TonyeBarcanista:
Ijaw nation can never be part of any Odua group just as Odua can never be part of Ijaw secession. But hey, we are Nigerians (at least for now)

1. On the Paragraph, I think it safe to say, with all due respect, that you seem not to be abreast with the nature of leadership. Circumstances make Leaders. Leadership isn't basically a position or a role. It is the function of a personality in a circumstances. Leaders are born out of the circumstance of either solving a problem or creating one.
2. I would perhaps, give you the benefit of the doubt by putting out the question of Azikiwe and Ojukwu who is a better leader to Ndi Igbo and graciously, I would share the responses with you and so, I believe, you take back that line comparing Ojukwu /Azikiwe when the Biafra war is given a mention.

3.From all accounts by international writers, safe Pro-Nigerian-history-distorting-writers, there is consensus underpinned in strong facts that Ojukwu left the shores of Biafra Land under unwavering persuasion from the Leaders and right thinking persons of Biafra because if he had been captured, it would have meant that one, Nigeria won the war, two, that there would never be the mention of Biafra, there could have been conviction and possible imprisonment or execution of the Biafra armies that fought the alongside Ojukwu which Nigerian Government was ever matching forward to.
4. Biafra, in the account of the war, from the side of truth, out-tpowered Nigeria, having captured her territory as far a past Ore and over the banks of kogi and Benue. Nigeria could only rely on external assistance and the of course, the Historic sabotage from a Yoruba man, Banjo and his Igbo counterpart, Ifeajunna.
5. The facts are out there that Ojukwu made all moves possible to prevent the war but the cabal that dictated for Gown never wanted that to happen because the world, influenced by the British government was yet behind Nigeria.
Please, Bro, make your research before setting out your hypothesis.

namet:
With mounting evidence of what Suleman did to this woman, it's disappointing (though not a surprise) that you continue to question the integrity of Ms. Otobo's story. Just so you know what make Ms. Otobo a victim:

When someone who calls himself a pastor tells a young and vulnerable woman that he will marry her, and then reneges on that promise after sleeping with her many times, the woman involved is a victim.

When someone who calls himself a pastor tells a woman that he loves her and that he will be with her as a husband, any woman would trust what the man says and would open up their legs for the man to enjoy. Being lied to, by not keeping your words, makes the woman a victim

When Suleman forces this woman to drink some abortion concoction, a potentially poisonous substance that is not approved by NAFDAC and could even kill her, she is a victim of Suleman because the pastor used his position as a powerful and rich pastor to do this to her.

When a popular and highly political pastor like Suleman sleeps with Ms. Otobo, promises her marriage and other gifts, and then leave her the affair is exposed, this woman is a victim because she potentially may not get a husband as men would run away from her. She is a victim of this pastor

Members of any church support their pastor and give their monies to the church not for the pastor to use the money and pay many different women to sleep with them. A pastor who does this betrays that trust and the woman at the center of the affair suffers rebuke and hate from the church members who are simply unhappy that their monies were given to her. Ms. Otobo is a victim because any member of Suleman's church can attack her or cuse her harm

Ms. Otobo confessed that Suleman sexed her and made love to her the way no other man has touched, held, and caressed her body and mind. Talk to any woman and they'll tell you that doing treating a woman this way makes her fall for you bother physically and emotionally. Suddenly taking away the affection renders women emotionally distraught and vulnerable. Ms. Otobo is a victim because Suleman has stopped giving her happiness and she can easily become depressed and may even commit suicide. She is a victim of the love that Suleman promised her.

Ms. Otobo is a victim of Suleman's reckless amorous lifestyle. Suleman's wife and every woman has, or will sleep with this pastor, is also a victim of such recklessness and disregard to the health and welfare of the women. If she gets Ms. Otobo pregant, that means he didn't use protection or a condom. Imagine if Suleman is sleeping with many different women. STDs/HIV could be spread very easily from a man that goes around doing this. In that regard, such reckless endangerment of women who've been in sexual contact with Suleman makes all them a victim. If the women in our country are infected this way and their health put at risks by some amorous and sexy addict like Suleman, all citizens of the country are victims. This is why we must all condemn Suleman's actions and demand an apology. Got it?

No, I don't get it, o!
shocked What proof has she supplied? A photoshopped image, that does not show anything amorous going on between them? There are too many loopholes in her stories. sad

Otobo's claims that the pastor touched her in an amorous fashion .... unfortunately it is her word against his. You and I were not physically present in the room, and cannot prove anything went on. Next, she expects rational people to believe her claims that he promised to marry her? Does she want to pretend that she did NOT know he was married, before he started making such promises of marriage? So how on earth could she have taken such promises seriously, assuming he even made such promises?? huh Nobody in her family can provide any proof to show that he promised her marriage. Even her own father has denied her claims!! shocked

You claim he got Stephanie Otobo pregnant. Where is the proof? Any law court would examine the facts and not hearsay. Guy, please do not be taken in by Otobo's lies. undecided She makes a living from the world's oldest profession....and such people cannot be trusted to tell the truth. To now top it all, she claims that the pastor gave her a concoction to drink and she bled for months. Re-ea-ally?? shocked Where was she treated for this problem? And which doctor handled her case? She did not say.

As for the so-called 'evidence' she claimed to have, she could not produce it, as she claimed it was on her laptop and the laptop got stolen. How convenient! cheesy Guy, if you wish to believe the hearsay and lies she has been peddling around, it is your call. Just do not expect everyone to be as gullible as you. sad

If you have nothing constructive to say then perhaps you shouldn't say anything at all. I thought that you were supposed to be an intelligent poster? huh
