kingzizzy: Sorry bro but secession is not prelude to war. That a people seceded does not mean that only war can be employed to resolve the issue. Gowon could have gone for a second Aburi meeting, discussions, referendum. Of all the peaceful ways Gowon could have gone about Biafra, he chose war as his first and last resort
Adebayo was a signatory to the Aburi agreement, he signed on behalf of the the Western Nigeria. Yet he could never call Gowo out for breaking the agreement they all signed in Ghana.
Personally, I think Adebayo was a good man and a fine officer, but his docility is shocking.
Adebayo should have been the first Military President of an independent Oduduwa Republic.
Instead, he was reduced to saluting Gowon who was far his junior in the Army.
What a pity that only Ojukwu had the guts to stand up to Northern domination I will forgive you for rambling, because I know you are ill-informed. Ojukwu as a military officer was duty bound to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria. Instead of seeking a peaceful approach to the problem confronting his people, he chose to secede, seize federal govt assets in the Eastern region, ask for oil royalties to be paid into his purse and argued that the case of Biafra would be settled on the battlefield instead of listening to the voice of reason from Zik, Adebayo and other African leaders. If that is not a prelude to war, then I do not know what it is. Maybe you can enlighten us. I really don't have time for you so please make use of the internet. Everything I have told you is in public domain. As for Adebayo, he had the foresight to reject a poisoned chalice. He was not a megalomaniac, or a power-hungry officer, who wanted to push himself to the forefront. Adebayo did not (and still does not) need your endorsement. His people respected his views, and what he stood for. Your opinion about him, therefore remains inconsequential. |

Intrepid01: Some people are just eternally dump. So seceding and sending soldiers to capture Lagos by Ojukwu isn't a signal to the beginning of War. In the past I used to wander why you people have refused to think and call a spade a spade but lately I have come to understand that deeply rooted in an Ibo man's DNA ( even Igbokwe confirmed it) is a "blame them all but me syndrome" , "even when I'm wrong, they caused it" syndrome. Only few Igbos have come out publicly to blame Ojukwu for plunging them in to a war they never had the capacity for.
Imagine, a chest beater that is self centered, you even said Adebayo missed the chance to become the first Military President, what a useless thinking, your thinking is similar to that of Ojukwu and that stupid thinking led to the death of millions of people. Not until when you people start thinking properly, your miserable situation won't change. gerrarahia I no fit laugh again, abeg.... |

If u re a director & u want to shoot a scene in Japan, will the characters in the scene be speaking in Arabic?
D point is that, while d brown roofs re shouting Igbo's conquered the outside world see the Igbo's as the Majority tribe in d south.
Remember to patch ur brown roofs cos rain is coming soon. I guess your middle name is Prof. Njoku. The Xmen film is a fictional account about unreal superheroes. So you believe that such superheroes with strange powers exist in reality, do you? And you still do not realise that there is something called 'artistic license,' which allows a poet, writer or artist to set a fictional background as a setting for his stories? So the writer of Xmen who claims Igbo is the indigenous language of Lagos is your Oracle, ba? Well I can't help you. You have chosen to swallow falsehood, and wave it as the gospel truth.Let me allow you to have the floor.... I am no match for your level of ignorance. If Prof. Njoku & Emeritus Prof. Kolawole are the ones who taught you this junk, please collect a refund from them. They did you a disservice.

obailala: You dont still get it do you?
There's a difference between a media house creating a story and a media house just reporting a story as received from the horses mouth. For example, if Channels TV interviews an armed robber and the robber makes a false claim that it is the president that asked him to steal, would you hold Channels TV responsible or would you hold the robber responsible for his own words?
Okay, Vanguard newspaper has also reported the same story yesterday, would you now also blame Vanguard for reporting the words of the woman verbatim? http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/03/video-apostles-suleman-pays-girls-n400000-per-night-ms-otobo/ No. You are the one who does NOT get it. If an event unfolds live in the presence of a journalist, and he reports it, then it is an eye-witness account and a live reportage of unfolding events. But if someone comes to a journalist with information about an event that did not occur in the presence of the journalist, especially after such an event has taken place, it is the duty of the journalist to crosscheck and verify such information before putting it out in public domain. Otherwise he runs the risk of libel or publishing falsehood. Hope this clarifies the issue. Where do you think the term investigative journalism came from? |
Politics › Re: Apostle Suleman Scandal: Why Hasnt Sahara Reporters Come Out With More Proof??? by laudate: 1:51pm On Mar 08, 2017 |
obailala: You get it all wrong, the job of journalists is to report a story. A story was narrated to SR by a woman who was arrested and who accused the Pastor of being behind her ordeal. Sahar simply followed the case up by publishing the VIDEO interview of the woman. It's a different ball game when SR are the ones accusing the pastor, and I find it weird why you cant see the difference. Nope. The job of a journalist is to report the facts. And they need to verify the facts or information they receive, before going to press. Otherwise, they would run the risk of libel. That is why every single university that teaches mass communication in Nigeria, always includes one course in their syllabus: Nigerian Media Law and Ethics. It is a compulsory course.

I feel like dashing you one million 'likes' for dis post! obailala: Is Sahara Reporter the accuser? or are they just reporting a story narrated to them by someone locked up at the police station?
The way some people reason na wa! Aren't journalists expected to verify the authenticity of any information they are given, before rushing to publish?? Or does the fact that they are an online publication, absolve them from the basic tenets of truth and honesty? |

Luke 14:31-32 KJV Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? [32] Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

kingzizzy: Adebayo was at Aburi, why didnt he warn Gowon about threading the path of war as well? Or is it only Ojukwu who needs advice? Ojukwu was the one who declared secession, not Gowon. Secession was a prelude to war. He was warned about his actions, but chose to turn his back on such warnings. From Zik and other African leaders, to Adebayo and different people from the West, Ojukwu had no shortage of good advice, but he chose not to listen. And it cost him dearly... I do not have time to school you today, as I am rather busy. So just conduct a search on Google and try to read up the facts. |

Suurulere: He was 88. He would have been 89 tomorrow. He was entirely against the Nigeria Civil War.
"I need not tell you what horror, what devastation and what extreme human suffering will attend the use of force. When it is all over and the smoke and dust have lifted, and the dead are buried, we shall find, as other people have found, that it has all been futile, entirely futile, in solving the problems we set out to solve." - General Adeyinka Adebayo, 1967.
He also implored Gowon to let Ojukwu break away with Biafra. His first son, Otunba Niyi Adebayo was the first executive governor of Ekiti State between 1999-2003.
Rest on Sir. Yes. That grand, old man named Adebayo was the voice of reason. He tried to warn Ojukwu not to tread the path of war, because it would be futile. And he was right. Rest in peace sir.

And why do you keep falling into the same defective mode of calling everyone who does not toe your line of reasoning a Yoruba man? I am not even from the South-West! We are not saying the same thing. If the VP releases him, by obeying the rule of law, it would still go on record that a Yoruba man refused to perpetuate injustice, and so that Yoruba man granted Kanu his freedom. Se fini! |

if KANU is found innocent, he is meant to be released...so where do "owe their freedom" comes in....he'll only be doing the needful
You can only say that, if he's convicted, and yet released by the VP, prolly thru' pardon Nah... you are the shiity one with the shiity comments. I am glad you said that the VP understands the rule of law. If it was so easy to base every outcome on the rule of law, then Buhari would have released him, right? If ever Kanu is released by Osinbajo, it would still be on record that the VP was a Yoruba man who obeyed the rule of law and granted Kanu his freedom. Something a Fulani man, could not do. It doesn't matter how you slice it and dice it, the truth is still the truth. Or don't you want Kanu to be free again?? |

naijaking1: Hadiza and Osabanjo should be close to the same age bracket. I think she's the one El Rufai gave the NPA job for her good work scheming during the BBOG campaign of Oby Ezekwesili. Right? If so, you'd understand why she really had to put up such display of good manner: she ain't got what it takes to be where she is academically and professionally in the first place. She has always made it by pleasing gullible men with low self esteem of themselves. Can you imagine Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Margaret Ekp, or Ms Ransom Kuti showing "deep courtesy" to any of her male compatriots the way Hadiza did? How can Hadiza and Osinbajo be in the same age bracket??! Osinbajo is almost 60, while Hadiza Bala Usman was born on January 2, 1976. Can you spot the age difference?
Do not judge her by saying she does not have what it takes academically to be where she is. She earned a good first degree in 2000 from Ahmadu Bello University, and got a master's degree from the University of Leeds in 2009. Must she have a Ph.d or become a professor to run the NPA? Please stop your generalisations, biko. And who told you that the late Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti never gave a deep curtsey to her elders? She was an Egba woman who was well-schooled in the traditions of the Yorubas of the South-West. In the South-West, women kneel to greet their elders or curtsey to show respect. But it did not stop her from challenging the late Alake of Egbaland, when she saw he overstepped his bounds. I would not expect Oby Ezekwesili, or Margaret Ekpo to curtsy to their elders, because it is not part of their tradition to do so, as a sign of respect to such elders. Do you get it now? |

deyinkadeji: FLYING CAREER
A hardworking and focused lady, Captain Hadiza Oboh was reputed to have checked out as a Flight Officer (F/O) aboard a Boeing 737 of the Nigeria Airways in 1984 . By 1989, she was already a well-established pilot and remained an aviation superstar all through the 1990s. She was always a point of reference and source of pride for all women associations in Nigeria and Africa.
THE PLOT AND THE MURDER The cold-blooded murder of Captain Oboh still sounds like a scene right out of a movie, even 17 years after her unfortunate exit from the world. On that fateful day, around 8.00 pm on the 8th of February 1998, Captain Oboh drove straight from the airport to her 40A Bourdillion Road home in Ikoyi, a high-brow part of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial center. A very lively lady, she was full of sparkle and was probably famished after a hectic day (pilots are some of the most worked and stressed-out professionals), she made for her kitchen to prepare a quick meal to line her stomach. Point of correction... her residence was 40AB Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi and NOT 40A. |

sonnie10: Fear of being boycott by Nigerian shoppers. This is image making to avert the negative consequences of xenophobia in South Africa.
They want people to feel the sense of ownership which would discourage any hostile plan. Nah!! All those imported goods they sell are gradually becoming overpriced, and getting out of the reach of Nigerians, due to the unfavourable FX rate that keeps fluctuating. As more people shun these consumables and goods, the higher will be the levels of unsold stock on Shoprite's shelves. And the more you tie down money in unsold stock, the tighter will be your cash flow. Some of those goods may even become obsolete or expire on the shelves, due to non-patronage. So it makes sense to try and substitute them with high-quality locally made goods that appeal more to Nigerians, and are much more affordable. The faster those goods sell, the more revenue flows into the pockets of Shoprite. It is called strategy! |
