You could be liable to prosecution and possibly face jail time if you make the mistake of calling someone "Osu".This law is still in force especially in the southeast. I don't know about other parts of the country. It's high time we brought that law to take effect online and drastically punish all those uninformed Afonjaical trolls carelessly branding about such a sensitive and forbidden label and let them know what they're dealing with!
Na wa for you people. cheesy You do not see anything wrong in labelling those Yoruba people as 'Afonja', but you get offended when they turn round to serve you a taste of your own medicine by calling you an 'Osu.' You know what? Let me allow the Yoruba people to give you a befitting reply. I am sure their response would be very interesting! Hehehe.... let the 'games' begin! wink

Why must you go on and on and on, or are you saying that they don't matter too?

I am not one of those who insist that Lagos is not Yoruba land. Language spoken in Lagos can vary from point A to point B as you said.

But political correctness for a country demands that Yoruba MUST not describe non Yoruba in the Southwest region as strangers.

The only way for Yoruba to morally and legally describe non Yoruba in the Southwest as STRANGER is if Yoruba gains sovereignty for Odududuwa Republic which must include Lagos.
Guy, your arguments do NOT hold water. If you are not an indigene of Lagos State, and you come from elsewhere to settle in the city, you are still a stranger. If I decide to go to Onitsha or Calabar and I do not hail from any of those areas, would I not be regarded as a stranger by the local community? shocked

A non-Yoruba who decides to live in Yorubaland is regarded as a stranger, the same way a non-Igbo who decides to live in Ala'Igbo would be regarded as a stranger and treated as one. A non-Hausa who decides to live in a Hausa community located in Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto etc, would also be regarded as a stranger. That is why non-indigenes of a place, quickly strive to learn the language of any new place they arrive in, in order to blend with the local community. Sorry, you cannot dictate to another ethnic group that they must declare a republic, in order to claim a city that is traditionally their own, by birthright. Are you their traditional ruler or their governor?? huh

Stop this trend of thought or people will begin to mock your ridiculous comments.... I don talk my own! Una dey like to drag the thing wey no be una own. Are you now trying to 'drag' Lagos with the Yorubas? sad

Conduct a research:

you are most likely to hear more Igbo than Yoruba spoken in Lagos these days.

Only way for Yoruba to claim Lagos is by Yoruba declaring Odududuwa Republic now, no more waiting till oil finished in the Niger delta.

Folawiyo has found oil in Lagos, so we were told by this government.
.North is committing billions of dollarin frantic search for crude oil. North knows that Nigeria can't remain one for long. What is Yoruba doing?
Guy, I have spent several years living in Lagos and I can tell you for a fact that Igbo is NOT more widely spoken than Yoruba, in Lagos. If you said Igbo is widely spoken in Alaba market, Orile or Ajegunle, I might agree due to the heavy influx of Igbo traders in that axis. The traders use it to converse among themselves. undecided

But in the larger parts of the state such as Lagos Island, Ifako-Ijaiye, Agege, Surulere, Ikoyi, Lekki, Ebute-Metta, Ikorodu, Badagry, Ebute-ero, Apapa, Mushin, Yaba, Ajah, Ilupeju, Ikeja, Palmgrove, Awoyaya, Sangotedo, Ibeju etc., you will discover that Yoruba is far more widely spoken than Igbo, on any day of the week. In fact, one habit I find prevalent among Lagosians, is that they would first address you in Yoruba before switching to English, because they assume that everyone in the city is automatically Yoruba. sad

It can be a tad irritating, having to correct them all the time especially if you are not one of them. undecided I really doubt if you have lived in Lagos, otherwise you would know that most of your claims are incorrect.

In my opinion, the Yorubas do not need to declare any Oduduwa Republic to claim Lagos. They already own the city. It is their heritage and the ancestral home of Yoruba groups like the Aworis. The rest of us from other tribes are just visitors, in this city. We will do our business, conduct our social transactions and still go back to our hometowns or villages at periodic intervals. undecided

As for oil, Folawiyo Group that discovered AJE oilfield off the coast of Lagos, is a company owned by a Yoruba man. The guy has the support of Lagos state govt. so what are you looking for again? Even in the Ilaje waterside area of Ondo State, you have some of the largest oilfields in Nigeria. So na wetin remain? shocked
Politics › Re: How Igbo Marginalised The Minorities In Delta by laudate: 1:59am On Mar 08, 2017
The Unknown Victims Ethnic Minorities 1967 – 1970 | Written by By Kelvin Amurun | November 6, 2015

However it must be pointed out that blame for atrocities must not be one sided. The Igbo people had a right to defend themselves and the UN recognition against genocide gives a people the right to secede. This is not debateable.

Wikipedia states that the Geneva Conventions comprise four treaties, and three additional protocols, that establish the standards of international law for the humanitarian treatment of war. This convention is binding to all warring parties.

The dorminating argument of the Nigeria Biafra War is that the Igbo were targeted for extermination by the Muslim North. International media played a significant role in exposing humanitarian tragedies especially in Igbo speaking parts of Biafra. However not much was reported on the atrocities perpetuated against minorities in Biafra both by the Nigerian military forces and Biafra militias.

A Newsweek magazine once report that some of the worst massacres of the war occurred when the federal troops captured minority regions whereupon minority tribesmen turned on the Ibos in blood fury. The quote presents Igbo as victims in the hands of minorities without referencing the experience the minorities suffered in the Igbo dominated region before the arrival of the federal troops.

There was another report stating that Ibos were killed by the local people in their thousands in the Mid West on arrival of federal troops. No one seems to ask the question…..why was this the case?

It is not denying the fact that Igbo were massacred during the civil war, however there is an error in the representation of the victims of the massacre.

The number one question is: Attributing the 1966 massacre in the North as only Igbos is an error of judgement. In the G C M Onyiuke led tribunal, it was clearly shown that ethnic minority groups in Eastern and Mid Western Nigeria were victims. It was easy to mistake an ethnic minority for Igbo apart from mere physical appearance there was no other distinct feature to differentiate Igbo from non Igbo. You cannot tell unlike the Yoruba or Hausa facial marks. Ethnic minorities were also killed.

While the Igbos retreated back to the East to form a defence line and secede, no one seems to ask the question if the Biafra ethnic minorities (present day Cross River, Akwa Ibom etc) were actually consulted on the need to secede and if they agreed. The argument that the war was only Hausa Fulani and Igbo is purely too simplistic.

In the early days of Nigeria, the domination of the three major ethnic groups of Yoruba, Hausa Fulani and Igbo in the political atmosphere of Nigeria was obvious. The leaders of the ethnic minority ethnic groups had found themselves in a disadvantaged position in the entire federal political equation. As a result of this, minority leaders in different regions began to form movements that started the agitation for the creation of more states were their interest will be largely protected.

Some of this movement included the Calaber Ogoja River (COR) state, Mid West movement and Middle Belt State movement. This movement agitated for minority rights in the larger state. The leaders of the state creation movement believed that the formation of their states will eliminate the domination of the major ethnic groups.

In Chinua Achebe's book titled There was a Country, he had this to say on the Niger Delta Region page 47: …”The minorities of the Niger Delta, Mid West and the Middle Belt were always uncomfortable with the notion that they had to fit into the tripod of the largest ethnic groups that was Nigeria……. many of them Ijaw, Kanuri, Ibibio, Tiv, Itsekiri, Isang, Urhobo, Anang and Efik were from ancient nation states in their own right. Their leaders however, often had to subsume their own ethnic ambitions within alliances with one of the big three groups in order to attain greater political results. And so during the civil war this minority groups were faced with a great dilemma.

THE CONFLICT AND WAR CRIMES.
Revelations about the war atrocities on the minorities have emerged recently. New surviving records, physical evidences and oral histories of the war suggest that minorities in Biafra and mid west became individual and collective victims of the war.

The Biafra minorities did not have a say in the succession. A prolific journalist named Suzanne Cronje on the Biafra war stated that the feelings of the minorities were difficult to define. Loyalties were in fact divided. The cry out for a separate state by the minorities was not a clamour to secede.

When the war broke out, Biafra had stationed some of its troops in the Cross River region including Ikun in Biase Local Government. Though the Ikun initially supported Biafra and had friendly relations with the soldiers, as time went on tensions emerged. Some Ikun men were suspected of collaborating with Nigerian soldiers with no hard evidence. As a result murder, arrests, looting and rapes was meted on that community. William Norris of the London Times who visited Biafra reported an eye witness account of how Ibibio men were surrounded and beaten to death in Umuahia on April 2 1968. They were reportedly forced to march across an open space while the local people attacked them with sticks and clubs.

On another episode, Biafra soldiers took Ikun men to Ohafia for a meeting but never came back with them. An informant alleged that soldiers returned to the community and rounded up some men within their reach and shot them. A survivor who lost her four day old son and grandmother seemed to have suspected foul play from the Ohafia people with whom they share a common boundary.

This victimization continued until the Biafra headquarters issued a statement to stop the genocide. However by this time, the remaining people had escaped leaving behind only soldiers and Ohafia, also some Ikun with a mixed blood of half Ohafia.
B J Ikpeme a Senior Medical Officer in the then Eastern region revealed atrocities perpetuated by Biafra soldiers against the minorities in towns of present day Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

Ikpeme's argument was that Ojukwu`s declaration of Biafra was done against the wishes of the majority of Calaber, Ogoja and Rivers provinces who for many years had agitated for a separate state and not a secession from Nigeria. They were never consulted and Ikpeme also argued that the Igbo leadership had concluded plans of either to force the five million non Igbo speaking Biafra minorities to accept Biafra or eliminate them out rightly. It was on this basis that soldiers were quickly sent to the minority areas to keep down the people, detain or kill anyone who raises an opposing voice against Biafra.

In Asang town alone about 400 people were carried away to unknown destinations and never came back. Attan Onoyon town suffered the same fate. Enyong was burnt down and many people killed by Biafra soldiers. Biafra soldiers shot many villagers in Ekpenyong, present day Akwa Ibom. On October 18 1967, about 169 civilians in detention were lined up by Biafra soldiers and shot (source: New York Times as an informational advertisement by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria New York). There was a special operations group within the Biafra forces called Biafra Organisation of Freedom Fighter (BOFF). It was set up in Bende. The objective of the special operations was to suppress the enemy within.

On the disappearance of a Major Archibong, investigations revealed that members of the special operations decapitated their victims for ritual purposes. Head hunting in warfare was a cultural practice in some parts of Biafra known as old Bende.

The minorities in Rivers area seemed worse off. Apart from torture and other forms of human rights abuses, they were also evicted from their homes and Igbo names were allocated to streets. Some Kalabari young men were evicted and sent to Umuahia, Owerri, Abiriba and Ozuitem most likely to avoid infiltration of the enemies. Chief Samuel Mbakwe a Biafra Provincial Administrator of the Okigwe Province had noted the influx of refugees from Port Harcourt.

An Irish priest who served in Rivers State reported that the Igbo soldiers were suspicious of some Rivers people who sometimes led federal troops through their lines along hidden creeks. This attitude, according to the priest, created a mixture of panic, fear, and hatred among the Biafra troops towards some indigenous people of Rivers State. People who were maltreated were said to have been involved in this act of “sabotage” against Biafra. It is asserted that no fewer than six thousand Rivers people were sent to different refugee camps in Igboland.

WeNoGoDie:
I don't trust a lot of pastors but many factors seems to make Ms Otobo's claims questionable which people hardly seem to notice:

1. The lady claims there was a kind of introduction/traditional marriage. This is one area her claims flaws greatly. Someone as well known as Pastor Sulaiman cannot do a traditional marriage without it hitting blogs and evening newspapers at least. Someone among the attendees will certainly leak it.

2. Traditional marriage of that caliber must evidently have at least a picture or video.

3. A relationship that intimate as the girl claims should at least have one picture of the two together in loved up postures and not just a snapchat photoshop that says nothing.

4. The girls dad totally denied her claims even when she involved her dad in her video testimony.

5. How come all these things are happening at a time some powerful folks are after the downfall of the pastor.

6. No fake Nigerian pastor will want to divorce his wife and marry a stripper because in an effort to hide their hypocrisy there are certain things they wouldn't publicly do.

All I'm simply saying is that the girls stories do not add up at all. Even when you listen to her video testimony, the way she's stuttering and fumbling and her lack of cordination easily showcases an individual trying hard to arrange lies.

However I always leave a room for doubt if I hear stories like this in case I'm wrong.
May you live long!! cheesy The minute I heard it, I knew it was a cooked up story. The pastor had denounced Fulani herdsmen recently, and managed to escape DSS arrest, only for them to fight back using a concocted tale by a stripper. C'mon, her story has too many loopholes. If they had a romance, where did their rendezvous hold? How often did they meet and where did those meetings occur? Who were those that aided and abetted their affair? Girls like to talk and show off their blokes, or their relationships to their friends. So who were the observers of their so-called relationship? undecided

Music producers may also make some money over a period of time, if the songs they produce eventually become a hit. Guy, the only death lurking here is the one that would seize you in its thrall. Google the facts, or forever keep silent. But since you are so slow, let me point you in the right direction. Read it up here:

One of the many aides of the late Biafran leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, resigned angrily in August 1968 after accusing him of frustrating international efforts to get food aid across to civilians caught on the wrong side of the civil war.

Robert S. Goldstein, an American and Public Relations Representative of Biafra in the USA, accused the late Ojukwu of using ‘ starving hordes as hostages to negotiate a victory in the war.

His letter of resignation, which was first published by the defunct Morning Post on August 17, 1968, resurfaced in the wake of Prof. Chinua Achebe’s damning condemnation of the role of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo during the war, especially the blockage of food to the rebels.

Goldstein, in the letter, recalled various efforts he made to swing public opinion in Europe and the USA in favour of the defunct Biafra and the subsequent recognition of such countries like Gabon,Tanzania, Zambia, Ivory Coast and Haiti until Ojukwu began to undermine those achievements by “hoping to use these unfortunates with world sympathy on their side as a tool to further your ambition to achieve war concessions at the upcoming peace talks in Addis Ababa.”

He said: “Urgent telex messages were received from ‘Biafra’ telling of tens of thousands of people starving in the refugee camps, the villages, the bush country – stating if something weren’t done in the next few months over a million women, children and aged would be starved to death. I immediately contacted the Press, urgently petitioned the State Department for action on their part.

“ Food, medicine and milk were sent to the only available ports open for immediate shipment to ‘Biafra’ via land routes through Federal and Biafra territory, under the auspices of world organisations such as the International Red Cross among others.

“Then came the incredible answer from ‘Biafra’ that land corridors could not be acceptable
until there was a complete ceasefire, and that an airlift was the only solution to feed the starving.

“You then appeared before the various Heads of State and representatives of the OAU at Niamey in Niger. I fully expected you to at least accept the world help that was offered your starving throngs. However, you delayed, hoping to use these unfortunates with world sympathy on their side as a tool to further your ambition to achieve war concessions at the upcoming peace talks in Addis Ababa. Thus, innocent victims continue to perish needlessly of starvation, the most agonising death that can befall any living creature.

“I cannot in all conscience serve you any longer. Nor can I be a party to suppressing the fact that your starving thousands have the food, medicine and milk available to them…..it can and is ready to be delivered through international organisations to you. Only your constant refusal has stopped its delivery.”
