http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/196557-14-billion-refinery-cbn-assures-dangote-of-support-to-get-forex.html

http://newsrescue.com/the-truth-behind-dangotes-wealth-the-cabal-tokunbo-ban-and-impoverishing-nigerians/#axzz4Z32zFPHf

No need to speculate on this. We can draw conclusion from dangote himself regarding his much touted local tomatoe paste production plant. Here's the link.

http://nairametrics.com/why-its-cheaper-to-import-tomato-despite-forex-ban-dangote/

So who says the same should not repeat itself in the fuel sector? Or do you think other Nigerian businesses will all sit down and watch one company monopolize a whole industry?
Guy, did you even read those articles? CBN promised him forex, but there is nothing in that report to show that Dangote took the entire forex allocation of 14 billion USD from CBN to build his refinery. Please read this article below:

Dangote Clarifies Forex Allocation to Refinery, Fertilizer Plant By Crusoe Osagie and Ejiofor Alike

Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has clarified that his refinery, petrochemical and fertilizer plant did not collect as much foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as some people have speculated, stressing that his company raised a substantial part of the forex being used in the execution of the multi-billion dollar project.

This is coming as Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has described the refinery, fertilizer, petrochemical and gas pipeline project being executed by Dangote Group at a cost of $17 billion, as the largest single project in the world.

Speaking on Saturday during an inspection tour of the ongoing project by Osinbajo in the Lagos Free Trade Zone at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, Dangote said the company sourced the $100 million used in acquiring the land from the Lagos State Government and raised another $300 million capital to start the project without any assistance. http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/06/27/dangote-clarifies-forex-allocation-to-refinery-fertilizer-plant/
Dangote borrowed only $173 million from banks out of the 12 billion USD needed for the project, to pay interest rates on their previous loan since 2014. Did CBN dash him the money? No!!

And your likening tomato paste to oil or refined petroleum products, is laughable. Petroleum product sales are listed & governed by Platt, while crude oil output and price, is by OPEC members. Tomato paste is a totally different kettle of fish.

I'm sure you have no idea how much incentives the govt./CBN has given to Dangote to build the monopoly. But wait until the station is built and let's see how he competes with importers in the face of subsidy WITHOUT any further incentives from the fedreal govt. .
Please let us know the incentives that govt/CBN gave him. And why would he not compete favourably with importers when his refinery is fully built & operational? huh

In terms of timing and availability of products, he would have the upper hand, as it takes importers 30 days to 60 days to complete the entire importation process from LC to discharging of products on arrival, if such importers are bringing in the fuel from US or Europe e.g. Rotterdam. If they are importing the usual small 5,000MT quantities of AGO or PMS from the Abidjan refinery or Tema, then you could look at 40 hours to 72 hours freight period, from when the vessel is loaded at the refinery to when it gets to our shores. undecided

In terms of pricing, cost of vessel hire & importation is also going to be reduced for Dangote, as he has the option of transporting his fuel over shorter distances, than the importers who are bringing it in from abroad. sad

In terms of market, he can choose to sell his refined products in dollars to other African countries and make his money back. Or our govt can choose to pay the fuel subsidy directly to Dangote and buy fuel; from him. Either way, it is a win-win situation for the guy. undecided

huh huh huh huh huhThere we go again....

SPECULATION, SPECULATION, SPECULATION

Back in 2012, at total deragulation (plus high crude price and low exchange rate) you'd have been buying fuel at N142 max. And by now, govt. would have banned fuel importation or alternatively they'd have made it more expensive than local production which would have forced invedtors to rush into local refinery business.

With that, the demand for forex would have crashed, thousands of permanent jobs would be created, competition would have futher crashed the pump price grossly. And Probably Nigeria by now would have been poised to start exporting fuel to at least other African countries.

But none of those could happen because of some lousy speculations.

Come to think of it, for about one year now you all have been buying fuel at N145 (from N87) yet no one died or complained. Yet the infastructure and transport system are yet to improve.

So, go ahead. Keep destroying the future with your speculations. It's been a Socialist Republic of Nigeria. No problems.
You call it speculation? Oya, go ahead and implement it and let us know exactly you would handle the aftermath of your so-called total deregulation. undecided People like Dangote did not call for total deregulation before building their own refinery. You that has not even worked in any refinery before, is calling for total deregulation...hehehe!

JUST LISTEN TO YOURSELF. huh
What again was your position in 2012? GROSS OPPOSITION TO TOTAL DEREGULATION! Why? Because of herds-mentality driven by reckless media SPECULATION. But 5 years later, here you are talking gebrish and clamoring for what you demonized 5 whole years ago.! Talk of dumbness.

Well, FYI it WAS way cheaper to import refined fuel than it was to build and maintain a bunch of semi-eco-friendly refineries. Though, given the current FX rates, I doubt if the earlier assertion is still true today.

But even if it is, no smart enterpreneur will be in a hury to invest billions into an industry where the govt. regulates pump price. So as long as you want subsidy/price regulation, you'd keep having jobs exported to Asia and elswhere.

Either eat your humble pie, repent and approve what you demonized in 2012, or your hypocricy will keep hunting you.
Total deregulation in an economy, where transport infrastructure is substandard, citizens welfare has no safety net, and power supply is epileptic, is tantamount to handing over the reins of such an economy to the kind of inflation which only leads to economic suicide. How do you manage the aftermath of such total deregulation? Someone should give us a blueprint on how that would be done first, before talking about implementing total deregulation. If we had an efficient inter-city and intra-city rail system, and an efficient electricity supply network, then by all means - go ahead and deregulate. But kindly remember that Dangote did not wait for the govt to deregulate, before he started building his own refinery, without collecting a dime from local banks or the CBN. sad

A lot of those who got licences to build refineries under OBJ, simply sat on them thinking they could hawk such documents and make money from potential investors, without realising that it is a different ball game. undecided

Anyone who builds his refinery today, can sell his refined products to any country along the West African coast and beyond. They do not have to wait for deregulation. All they need is a steady supply of crude. sad

Go and find it, google is ur friend.

NASS is fully aware of Biafra and their many peaceful protesters murdered by Nigeria Army, let dem be responsible and call a Biafra referendum.

It is as simple as that.

Scotland did it and even Britain did it to EU.

It is democratic and proper given the circumstances and demand. Let the SE decide via a referendum vote or is it that u people cannot trust us with the UN conducted referendum to vote?

Ekweremadu is the deputy Senate President, he has raised the matter and the NASS is aware of it.

They should fulfil their democratic obligation and give the people of the South East a referendum on Biafra.

That is the next step.

If u cannot agree with that, good night mate, i dont have all night.

I know what I am saying when it comes to been in the military/para military as an Igbo in the federal states. it does not go well on them. to tell you the truth, things became fair when obasanjo came into power. he changed the system completely from salary payment, transfer, position ranking etc. he made it equal at every level.. if people can say bad about obasanjo but to me, i respected him more when he overhaul the system. it was no more as it used to be when the northerners takes all. as as we know, Nigeria is a step forward but 10steps backward. please my issue is not with any tribe but what I despised seeing is when somebody with no certificate or experience who just arrived into the job, becomes a boss in the federal sector.. you might not know the pain maybe a friend or family has not suffered such loss which is why you talk this way. it is better you give them the republic they ask for. is it by force to be in the same Nigeria with you.

Now, it seems you didn't get the memo. I have always said it that i respect people's wishes about what they want to call themselves as long as it is not predicated on falsehood. I'm saying these because of the reasons these people give as to why they're not Igbo. Imagine someone saying that we're not the same because if i speak you won't hear everything that i'm saying. That's to imply that as an igbo person, i understand every dialect that is spoken in South east nigeria which is false. So, i have to correct those impressions. Recently, i personally don't consider a group like Ikwerre for example to be Igbo not because i don't think they have what it takes to be called Igbo but because i feel they haave gone far along in their self consciousness as Ikwerres and bringing them under the Igbo problem will only bring problems for us.

Btw, i've noticed that you're neither Igbo, Anioma, Edo, Deltan or anywhere around there. I don't ven think you're a southerner. It just makes your day to see this people dissociate themselves froma people you hate so much.
First, you say that you 'respect people's wishes about what they want to call themselves as long as it is not predicated on falsehood.' Good! cheesy And the Ika, Ukwuani etc., people on this thread have repeatedly affirmed their desire to be identified by their own ethnic groups, and not to be lumped with another, because of the distinctive features & the consciousness they possess. As far as I can see, their request is hinged on the fact that their origins are diverse, and not just hinged on one source (i.e. Igbo), like others are trying to make them believe. I see nothing wrong with that. sad So why are other respondents trying to foist an Igbo identity on them, simply because their language is similar?

As far as my own ethnic origins are concerned, I fail to see its' relevance to this thread. I am a Nigerian. Where I come from, is not the subject under discussion. And unless you want others to believe that you have psychic powers, I don't know where you got the impression that it "makes your day (sic) to see this people dissociate themselves from a people you hate so much." I do not hate anyone, I only hate the IPOB ideology and acolytes, because of their propaganda that fosters ethnic hate, and their propensity to dish out venom against other ethnic groups. undecided

I understand what you mean considering that you're Ika. I have already thrashed that when i compred Ika to Aniocha/Oshimili and Etche. You no go gree and i have no problem with it. I'm not trying to change anybody's belief as long as it makes them happy but what i hate is blatant falsehood. Even if all the traditional rulers stand up one day and go on national television to announce their Igboness, you'll probably say they were paid, so all this back and forth is totally unnecessary. I think the best course of action for you anti Igbo elements is to just say that irrespective of your history, your language or culture, you don't want to be called Igbo. That makes more sense than telling us how you use to be Edo and some Igbos you traded with taught you Igbo and that's where the Igbo influence came through.
You just stated that those who do not want to be called Igbo should say so. And they have done it. undecided So why are you now getting bothered by the fact that they have done as you asked, and are also asserting their Edo origins? Can't they be left alone to decide who or what they want to be? sad

Afam4eva:
Unfortunately, the Edo people you always shamelessly want to associate with along with your fellow Urhobo/Isoko/Itshekiri/Ijaw deltans always call you Igbo. You can't run away from your shadow. If you're so interested in dissociatig yourself from anything Igbo so that people don't get you confused, start a revolution that will see Ika parents give their children non Igbo names and trace your language s that you can start speaking it instead of the Igbo decorated one that you're speaking currently.

I also find it pathetic the way you guys interchange Ika and Anioma without also considering the different influences that makeup Anioma. You want to call Anioma an ethnic group without realizing that you're just as different from Aniocha, Oshimili and Ukwuani the same way you think you're different from south east Igbos.
