Obatala is a West African Lucumi Igbo name. They were known as Oba Igbo and Obi Osere Igbo -ancient Igbo royal titles. 'Obi ' is an Igbo word for 'king'. 'Osere' is an Igbo word for priest. 'Igbo' is self explanatory. Chai! Which kind tales by moonlight be dis?? Can you remember the 9th commandment?

Good news from Taraba state. My resolve is to make Gashaka an industrial hub |By Gabriel Omonhinmin | 19 February 2017 | 3:49 am | The Guardian Newspapers
On January 28, 2017, a new Emir, Zubairu Muhammadu Hammangabdo, was installed as the Lamido of Gashaka, after the passage of his father, Alhaji Hammangabdo Muhmmadu Sambo, who reigned for 51 years. Before his installation, the new Emir was the Yerima of Gashaka and a Special Adviser to Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.
Q: Your late father was on the throne as the Lamido of Gashaka for 51 years. During his reign, there was absolute peace and the major tribes were all happy with him. What structures are you putting in place to ensure the development of Gashaka?
"My father did his best and left the stage with a very loud ovation. Now that the mantle of leadership has fallen on me, I am determined to industrialise Gashaka, by the special grace of Allah. Gashaka is the third in terms of landmass in the whole of Taraba State. We have comparative advantage in the area of agriculture, as our lands are fertile, and we have very friendly weather and no security issues whatsoever here. All these I intend to take advantage of. I will do all within my powers to attract investors to this area of the country, get banks to finance projects at considerable and reasonable rates. These structures are already being put in place."
" During my coronation, I made it very clear that due to the dwindling economy, I will do my very best to make my people take advantage of our agricultural potential to build Gashaka....
In the area of tourism, we have the Gashaka-Gumti National Park (GGNP), which was gazetted from two game reserves in 1991 and is Nigeria’s largest national park. It is located in the eastern province of Taraba and Adamawa to the border with Cameroon. The total area covers about 6, 402km.
Much of the northern GGNP is savannah grassland, while the southern part of the park has a rugged terrain characterised by very mountainous, steep slopes, as well as deep valleys and gorges, and is home to mountain forests. The altitude ranges from about 457 metres (1, 499ft) in the northern flatter corner of the park, up to 2, 419) metres (7, 936 ft.) at Chappal Waddi, (the Mountain of Death). It is Nigeria’s highest mountain in the park’s southern sections.
It is an important water catchment area for the Benue River. There is abundant river flow, even during the markedly dry season. Enclaves for local Fulani pastoralists exist within the park boundary that allow for farming and grazing. I have taken time to shed light on what we have here, so that investors can come and take advantage of them...." itsdumebi: Man forgives and preaches to thieves who broke into his home in Taraba
Two thieves who recently broke into a man's house in Jalingo, Taraba state have deeply regretted their actions after being forgiven and preached to by their victim.
The thieves burgled the home of their victim, Cosmas Yuguda, on February 14th, carting away two laptops, three decoders,a ups,a stabilizer, an LG DVD set, soaps, detergent, 3 packets of Maggi cubes, a clipper and body cream.
Politics Nigeria learnt that this was the second robbery attack on Yuguda's home in 2 months. The operation was carried out in broad daylight.
The matter was reported to the police and the robbers were swiftly captured. Below are photos of the thieves crying in a police cell and items recovered from them. They were also made to carry the stolen items back to Yuguda's home. Yuguda also prayed and preached to the thieves, urging them to give their lives to Jesus christ and ask him for forgiveness.

Those are towns like Ugbodumila in Delta state meaning the forest saved me and Warri in same Delta state which is probably from same lineage as Iwere ile in Oyo. Anyone can be descended from the other. There is no doubt that Onitsha and Ogba land were Yoruba towns in the past and never Edoid like the now Igbo people from those places think. The Yoruba spoken in Ugbodu is Owo dialect and that would be the old language of Onitsha and Ogba land before they became Igbos.

That was a time when anybody could be anything anywhere in Nigeria.... But your fathers spoilt it with tribalism and tomorrow you will complain that your kids ddnt get admission because they are non-indigenes or job, or even appointment...
See the ripple?
Nobody stopped awolowo from going over to the east to canvass for premier... Nobody stopped him....
The northeners had already started their own tribalism, the west and east were basically free for anybody, then zik tried only for your men ro come out on the basis of tribalism. I am not saying opposing him was wrong, but that seed of a Yoruba man should be premier of the west is still responsible for EVERYTHING wrong with Nigeria ... Are you talking about the same Zik that chased Eyo Ita out of his appointed seat in the East, so that he (i.e. Zik) could take over that same position? Kagawa10: Shut your trap.
The normal criteria to contest for presidential post is if you're a fellow citizen of the region which Zik isn't. He was born in the North, why not go there? That 's the question you can't answer!
Funny enough, the same Zik went to displace Eyoita from his elected post in the Eastern region, considering Eyoita is actually from the eastern region (Calabar) unlike Zik who's neither Yoruba, Edo or Urhobo! Foolish self entitled being! I didn't even realise that you had replied him citing the Eyo Ita example. |

SirBrightoc: Why the noise about an Igbo traditional title in Akure, as if Yorubas don't take traditional titles in other kingdoms. See below the picture of a Yoruba traditional title holder in Gombe. The title "Leader" is not traditional to Igboland and come to think of it, what does it tend to address, if not a show of shame on the Deji's side. Please, observe that this man goes by the title "Sarkin" which is a traditional title for Hausa monarch. Even when there is the real Sarkin Gombe, he doesn't feel threatened by this Sarkin Yorubawa in his own kingdom.
See his facebook page https://mobile.facebook.com/Gombe-Yorubawa-863883203659744/?_rdr But it was the Emir of Gombe that gave him that title and turbaned him as the Sarkin, nah. The guy did not just pick up the title from somewhere, claiming that his people elected him and then proceed to turban himself and walk majestically into the Emir's palace. You sef, check am nah! |

StOla: Eze Ndigbo who was also appointing chiefs?
By what authority was he appointing Igbo chiefs in Akure that already has a sovereign called Deji?
When summoned to the palace, asides the way he was dressed before the king, he had the audacity to be talking back at the king, and saying he had somewhere else that he had to be so the king and his council should hasten the meeting.
Akure Youths taught him a lesson of his life.
He went to mobilize his Igbo kin who closed down their own shops and were protesting. The Deji then gave traditional backing to their shop closure and declared them forever closed. They were the ones that begged the king to allow them to re-open their shops.
So I welcome this move by the Deji, and I know that Ohaneze Ndigbo had also condenmed this Eze Ndigbo rubbish by title loving commoners. Wow!! You mean all this drama took place there, and people outside that area didn't hear about it? I must take the next cab to Akure to observe things for myself. Culture › Re: Forget The Eze Ndigbo Title —Deji Of Akure by laudate: 2:05pm On Feb 20, 2017 |
Billyonaire: This Deji is not fit to be a King in Yorubaland. Eze Ndigbo is an Igbo word for the leaders of Igbo communities in any state. And Eze Ndigbo is not in conflict with any traditional ruler of the tribes they reside just like Hausa communities have their leaders in every state they reside. But the Deji, just like Oba of Lagos is showing insecurity here. He is not mature enough to be a Deji or whatever that means.
Leader is an English word. Eze Ndigbo is indigenous dialect of Ndigbos, it is foolish for Deji to attempt to change the name of Igbo leaders because they choose to live in Ondo for business.
Ondo people must know that without the Igbo businesses, Ondo will return back to the sleepy labourers town it is known to be in the past. What am I seeing here? I thought your people said that it is only Lagos, that they migrate to. So they are now in Akure, Ondo and other parts of the South-west? This is rather interesting..... |

me69: About school ranking, it is there mainly because of the quality of research and the academic researchers they have and because of marketing their schools. You have to understand that most of these universities are private organization that run like companies with their boards. Secondly, I happen to be studying a Masters in Economics and so I'm in a good position to tell you that it is different. Every organization has a finance department so do the government and it deals with finance related matters and policies not economic policies. The CBN for example has a bigger economic role than finance because it deals with monetary policies. The government runs the fiscal policy side and other related side of the economy. Currently the institution in charge of economic matter in Nigeria is the office of the vice President under osinbajo, I have people working there as economists Thanks for your response. So if the quality of research done in a university is good or adjudged to be of a high standard, don't you think that would translate into a better level of teaching or a higher standard of knowledge, being imparted to the students in such a university? My point remains the same: Kemi Adeosun does not have the level of knowledge or financial expertise required to manage our economy and pull it out of the woods. She and her economic team, need to admit this and resign honourably. Let more capable folks take over the reins. Or is it when the USD exchanges at =N=1,000 naira that we would accept this fact? |

saintdennis: Even in a buoyant economy, franchises fold up.
If KFC couldn't compete favourably it's not due to the recession... even mr biggs as at 2010 really a took a hit due to low patronage (it was perceived as an old school coy)
Blame the company mngt, like the report states other fast food chains are 'expanding' operations.
You also read where it's clearly stated they'll keep running outlets at shopping malls...shows u d direction the coy is headed. You are right. My guess is this - combination of high rents, high food prices, poor procurement practices, high inventory, high energy costs, poor management practices, lots of wastage and loopholes, and maybe high fees paid to the Indian expatriates that manage some of their branches, contributed to their demise, not to mention high tax rates. Our local and state govts tax anything taxable, in their guise of making revenue. They should have looked for experts to turn around their business and plug the loopholes, before they decided to close down their outlets. Tantalizers & Tastee Fried Chicken (i.e. two of their competitors) took a decision to change their model of rental operations a few years ago. Now, they use beautifully designed 20ft and 40ft containers that have been converted to mini cafeterias, as outlets. They put them in petrol stations, close to universities, markets and other areas with high human traffic, unlike KFC that likes to open outlets in high-priced malls and expensive low density areas. It is much cheaper for them, as these containers cost less than the annual rent in some of these high-priced malls. Rent per square metre in a lot of these malls are really exorbitant. Some other fast food outlets are now more focused on the 'take-away' model, where people just buy their pre-packaged food in packs, and take it home or to their offices to eat. That way, the amount of space required to house their operations & customers, is reduced. Amount of energy for cooling their food court, also drops as waiting/seating time spent by customers in their premises, goes down. gabicon: The purchasing power of majority of people living close to these KFC is low. I expected them to strategize by creating meal packages that suit the majority of people in their vicinity. About 60% of Nigerians live below poverty line $2 a day, yet the average KFC meal is way above that price n the irony is that the numbers is what makes them money. You got that right! Chicken Republic offers a combo meal that is less than 1,000 naira in most of its outlets. This attracts people at the lower end of the spectrum, especially when they want to give themselves a treat at end of the month. I am not a fan of their meals, as their chicken is way too spicy for me, but it seems to work for them. |
