DeLaRue: This is clearly a very bad northern stich - up. It seems the port was simply handed to a norther cabal.
Btw, the so-called 'foreign investor' element is just a mask to hide Atiku's ownership. I suspect he simply registered an off shore company with one or two 'pretence co-sharehoders', otherwise, why is the name and owners of the 'foreign' shareholders not known. Kindly provide proof to support your assertions, if you want us to believe your claims about Atiku. Post the CAC forms here, please. DeLaRue: For the Yorubas defending this northern shafting of the SS, I just dont understand you. The SS folks have been saying for a long time that Yorubas are responsible for holding down their ports in order to favour Lagos. But this is clear evidence that it is the northerners shafting the SS, yet some Yorubas have jumped on this thread to defend Atiku and his cabal? What's going on?
This Ports deal is terrible for the SS people, and as Yorubas, we must side with the brutal truth and call out Atiku's cabal. Guy, are you the spokesperson for the Yorubas now?? Why don't you simply declare your own individual support or lack of support in this issue and leave a whole ethnic tribe out of it?? Last time I checked, I did not see a Yoruba name on the board of Intels o! Anyway, na wetin concern me, sef?? You will know who owns Nigeria and the land ur father built house on, guess what?
it ain't you nigguh.
So sshhhhhh.
Laudate, if only the ports were ran as it should, but the cabals are hell-bent on making it purely a monopolistic venture, as far as SS/SE is concerned, there will never ever be a seaport in any part of them. Guy, na you be dolt, o!! Is your power sector not a monopolistic sector? Can you live in Lagos and claim that you have a competitive alternative to Eko Disco or Ikeja Disco? All your belly-aching here has not answered my question. What is your problem? Oil & gas freight logistics are handled only by Intels. Ok, how many of your SE businessmen are involved in oil & gas freight logistics? Isn't it the multinationals that are the key players in this sector? SE importers handle more non-oil cargoes than oil & gas freight logistics, so why don't you allow those whose activities are directly impacted by these unfavourable oil & gas policies to make noise? NB: Afterall, your fellow Igbo sister, Chief Kema Chikwe was Minister of Transport so why didn't she revoke the agreement between Intels and NPA with respect to Onne, Calabar and Warri Ports?? Don't forget that she was succeeded in office by Ojo Maduekwe another SE minister. NPA has always been under the Ministry of Transport. If they felt those terms and conditions of the MoU were unfair to SE importers and businessmen, why didn't they revoke it, or bring it to public attention?? Now that Kachikwu is Minister of State for Petroleum as well as NNPC GMD, you should ask him to break the monopoly of Intels over oil and gas freight logistics in Onne, Warri and Calabar. Chikena. |

basilo101: Why are u ppl like this? Its common knowledge that all eastern ports are not profitable for non oil imports instead of you to blame the appropriate authorities you start talking rub.bish like comming together and pressing for a cheaper rate bla bla bla its so disgusting. The day you start thinking with your brains, I know your kinsmen will throw a thanksgiving in church for you. What exactly is it that makes the Eastern ports non-profitable for non-oil imports? You want us to believe it is just because an unfavourable MOU was signed between Intels and NPA as well as some Northern & foreign businessmen along with their Igbo directors who own the Onne, Calabar and Warri terminal?? Don't private people own terminals in different parts of the world? Isn't it because your SE importers and SS businessmen have refused to route their non-oil imports, into those locations? And please do not point fingers at Onne. That terminal is mostly an oil & gas terminal. And most of the importers of oil & gas related cargo, are the multinationals, not your individual SE businessmen. When it comes to importation of petroleum products for instance, such products are not taken first to Onne but are discharged directly at the terminals connected directly to the depots e.g. Warri, Calabar & Port-harcourt. The only problem is the shallow draft at Calabar, as that port needs dredging to increase the water depth. So sometimes, smaller vessels are used to lighten larger vessels in order to get products to Calabar port, as larger vessels would run aground there. Dredging is meant to be handled by NPA. Why hasn't it been done on a regular basis?? I am not saying that the terms of the MOU are perfect, but it still does not disturb any serious businessman who wants to consign his goods to SE or SS ports from doing so. And yes, forming pressure groups, trade associations and chambers of commerce to lobby against unfavourable govt policies, or to change retroactive terms that have a negative impact, is a widely accepted business practice. The adverse effect of such terms and policies is tabled right before the govt authorities and the cost implication of such policies, as well as its' adverse effect on businesses, is thrown open to the public. The pertinent question is: Does govt want to kill the operations of the members of these trade associations by way of its unfavourable policies? I don't think so. How will govt will get their taxes and increased duties, if the ports remain non-functional?? Again, how do you think some groups get waivers or reduction in duties for their products, and others do not?? It works all over the world, even in Nigeria. Why are the SS & SE non-oil cargo importers so reluctant to adopt this approach? You guys have representatives in the Senate & House of Reps that can easily raise these issues and seek better terms and conditions at the SS sea ports. Why haven't you asked them to do so? |

the same thing with the British, if Biafra representatives presents a suitable negotiation with the British, they would take it, whether the whole biafran populace hates the British, as long as it won't affect the British interest.
you tend to forget that there also Iranians in u.s, who are happy and also briafrans in u.k who are happy with the govt.
international politics is all about interests, diplomacy and sabre rattling. Guy, are you for real?? The US has no business with Iranians, but it has business with Iran??! What kind of logic is that? What constitutes a country if I may ask? Isn't it the citizens of a country that make up the country, or do you think it is just the presence of uninhabited land that makes up a country? Aren't you aware that those who govern a country, are drawn from among the populace or citizens of that country?? Or do they come from outer space?? And that any policy executed by the govt of a country, in relation to another nation has a bearing, an influence or an impact on that nation?? That is elementary politics 101. When sanctions are applied against a country, who bears the brunt?? Isn't the citizens of that country?? So how can you come here and be splitting hairs about US and Iran and claiming that US policies have nothing to do with Iranians?? Are you aware that the activities of the citizens of Iran could inform the policies that are drawn up by the US, against Iran?? If let us say for example, Iranians engage in terrorist activities, would it not affect any policies that the US would make concerning Iran?? The same thing would apply in the case of Biafra, Biafrans and the British! Wake up and get real!! |

You have not made any point!! And what if Rivers sea port or Onne sea port is owned by private companies?? The issue is can those ports handle the discharge and off-loading of your goods? Customs duties are clearly spelt out in the green book that contains the amount or percentage to be paid as duties, on every type of consignment. So those things are difficult to inflate if you use a good clearing agent that knows his onions. If charges are higher at the Onne terminal, then why can't SE importers form a pressure group to lobby or press for better rates?? By what percentage are those rates higher?? Is it higher by 10% or 20%?? Your article does not contain much on these charges. Even parts of Lagos ports have been concessioned to APM Terminals and co. It is only a matter of time before the entire Lagos ports are finally put in private hands. So why are SE importers still using those facilities?? |

For this type of transaction, I have explained how the government can reduce cost and have a flat ongoing management fee of max N10M/ month paid to any company managing this. I have spoken to several Igbo folks (I even have some among my extended family), and many of those who support Biafra are young urchins who have NEVER experienced the civil war. They thrive on propaganda and romanticised war stories, told by those who were far from the killing fields or ensconced within the barricaded walls of the military high command. Those who experienced the war, or lost beloved relatives to its throes, are always against Biafra. HopeAtHand: I like this thread but i aint saying much as i aint Igbo..
But for the umpteenth time, i'll advise the Igbos to play their politics right and enjoy Nigeria at the best it offers...lobby and counter lobby and get an Igboman as president and see a whole new world of possibilities for the Igbos of Nigeria..GEJ presidency offered Igbos something but Igbo president will offer almost everything...Whatever Igbos can imagine will become real.. u can dregde River niger from Atlantic ocean to Onitsha and create a new Lagos on its banks, you can turn Enugu to Abj overnight using presidential powers and good lobbying..even Biafra can be readily achieved with an Igbo as the president of Nigeria..
Its a shame to admit but the Ijaws have displayed a higher level of maturity after GEJs loss..after all the biafran protests, Ipob have managed to set the Igbo tribe 1000 places from where they were politically in Nigeria..it will now take the Igbo longer than would have been requured to get the presidency of Nigeria, even Ikwerre seems likelier.
Nothing happens through violence these days, but by tactfully carrying out a well thought out and detailed plan..The Igbos for now look so disorganised and planless in their political direction.how a people can be so bereft of political tact at this age is quite baffling. Guy, you are talking to misguided pro-Biafra internet punters who are not prepared to listen to reason. They have woven this utopian ideal of an idyllic Biafra in their minds, and they want to do all they can to bring it to pass. Getting the presidency of a country requires strategising, building solid relationships across diverse ethnic groups, showing commitment to a common cause and understanding the interests of your neighbours. These pro-Biafra Igbo folks are not ready to do that. They believe in divide and rule, dominating others, scrambling for assets and acquiring territories of unrelated groups to fuel their desire for expansion. So leave them, abeg. Their short-term thinking has always left them with the short end of the stick. I pray their lack of foresight will not cost them their future, in their much awaited Biafra. |

If you do not provide explicit evidence to show that Laudate is Yoruba or from any other ethnic group, may it never be well with you in this lifetime and the next! Even on a bad day, the average Yoruba man trumps you Pazienza hands down, in intelligence and common sense. Your entire existence revolves around digging through posts on the ethnic groups of other people. You are incapable of engaging in rational, analytical, productive discourse based on issues and progressive ideas. Can you see how pathetic and stunted your existence has become, ekwensu?? citizenunitedfo: You seem not to understand what is wrong in all these. Maybe you work for REMITA. You cannot, I repeat, you cannot charge a % of public fund. If you want to be charging a %, go start a business, let the public pay the fee for your service. No one will care., but when you begin to charge a % of government revenue, free money that is guaranteed to come, it's just plain wrong and simple. I don't need to learn anything from you because you don't know what you are talking about obviously.
This revenue collection should be a flat management fee. The connections ensuring fund movement does not need innovation to warrant elaborate ongoing research and development as in commercial applications. Where is REMITA's cost to warrant sharing government revenue? I do NOT work for the company that owns Remitta and I never will. It is strange how people like you are so quick to jump to wrong conclusions, when a position has been taken. I have however been privileged to be part of project teams at home and abroad, that have set up and maintained payment processing platforms, for multinational clients. Every processing platform in the world charges a fee, for every transaction conducted using its platform. It doesn't matter if the users are private individuals or government agencies. Please read through all the posts on this thread to learn more about Remitta and what it was set up to do, as well as how the 1% fee was arrived at and how it is expected to be shared. Charging a certain percentage as fees on a transaction, is standard practice in business circles all over the world, so please do not imply that this is a strange or illegal practice. Even your banks charge you COT on your account, for transactions that have been conducted over a period of time. CBN did not put down a kobo for the set-up and installation of Remitta. Kindly conduct your research on the whole project before responding to my post, because if you persist in sustaining this line of reasoning, then you will have to forgive me and any other respondent for believing that you are clueless. Am out! |

pazienza: Are you?
I was addressing laudate and truckpusher there. Haven't I warned you sick, misguided, rertar.ded, uncouth, myopic f00l never to mention my name again in your posts?? Are you suffering from amnesia or delusion? Which one?? Bikō akpānikwona m iwe! Let this be the last time, you ever make any reference to me, you lousy coward. I gà-àkwalụ ǹkaà m̀mààlù! If anyone sent you on this mindless errand, tell them you are too small to deliver the message. Jèe nù ̣gbàkpọ ìzù! You are too stuvpid to debate issues intelligently, that is why you are always so eager to reach for the ethnicity handle to display your shallow mindset. Onye nzuzu! Ibebe: Laudate is actually not Yoruba.
But please continue. Let me not spoil the plot. Are you listening to that deluded mugu??The only thing he knows how to do is to whine about other people's ethnicity, as if that is his only mission in life, or a project that will put food on his table! |
