WIZGUY69: I wanted to counter laudate on the statement. electricity in osun is very stable. not just in Oshogbo most part of osun too. talking about ife, Iwo And ede. I know what ayam saying Please don't get me wrong! I have NOT said that power is not stable in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State. I am only saying that power is also stable in many parts of Akwa Ibom, because of the huge power infrastructure in that state, and also because the state govt there chose to invest in IPP such as the Ibom Power Plant. This was given as an example, to show that SW governors can also invest in power generation plants/schemes. In many parts of Lagos and Ogun, power supply is quite poor. In the Lekki-Epe axis for example, there has been little or no power in Lekki Phase 1, Mayfair, Jakande, Lakowe, Ibeju etc for over 2 weeks. From Festac to Okokomaiko, Alaba, Ijanikin and Apapa, the story is similar. Same goes for Otta, Mowe and Agbara. Poor power supply has been a problem. Only parts of Ikeja, Maryland and I think Ogba have recorded improvements in power supply. I don't know much about power supply in Ondo and Ekiti states. |

IyaIode: With the probe into rice waivers, it's almost as if the so called increase in metric tons were actually increase in importation. Those that were given license were busy importing more than their quota while claiming increased local production.
Adesina was fantastic with policies but implementation was very poor. He was the one eyed man in Jonathan's blind administration I beg to disagree, oh! Adesina tried in the following areas: 1). Breaking the cartel of fertiliser-hoarding businessmen, and ensuring fertiliser got to grass-roots farmers at reduced rates; 2). Getting more people involved in agribusiness, especially packaging and processing of agricultural products; 3). Ensuring enough storage and availability of food despite the huge floods recorded across the middle belt and parts of the south-south in 2012 and 2013; 4). Ensuring improved standards of agricultural products especially the packaged flour products, and dried fishery products etc. After he left, the fertiliser cabal seems to have come back into play, and the storage of food products has nose-dived as some of the agricultural silos are currently functioning at a lower capacity, than they did before. The problem in the agricultural sector is lack of consistency and sustainability. |

I have friends who were just transferred to Akwa Ibom because their companies relocated there, and in Uyo, Ikot Abasi and environs they enjoy like 21 hours of power daily! Gas from crude oil wells is known as associated gas (AG), while gas that occurs naturally in gas fields is known as Non-associated gas (NAG). Both types of gas consists of natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). But the percentage of natural gas or methane is higher in NAG, than AG. While AG is richer in liquified petroleum gas (LPG) than natural gas. You can install a gas processing plant that would separate the associated gas or non-associated gas into different types of gases ranging from methane (i.e. natural gas) all the way down to pentane and hexanes. Hope this answers the question. |

Akwa Ibom doesn't have the most stable electricity supply in Nigeria according to what I've heard from the horses mouth, that should be Osogbo.9jacrip se ooto le leyi
Speaking of power generation,I don't think Ondo state posses gas deposits. What we have is crude oil Crude oil always comes with associated gas. You can't separate them inside any oil well. Some companies do not just drill for oil, they also put in a fractionating plant next door to the well, to tap the gas, strip it, dry it and then process it into the various components such as methane, propane, butane, pentane etc. Here is a report on the state of power supply in Akwa Ibom: Akwa Ibom To Enjoy Uninterrupted Power Supply Soon –Udo | Daily Independent Newspapers|
....One of the critical things he did was to send me to Ibom Power, because the state government has invested significantly in Ibom Power and it was not doing what it supposed to do, so he sent me there to clean it up and today, we have cleaned up the place. It is now a viable investment that Investors are coming across different parts of the world and want to part of it.
We have gotten the biggest units there running effectively and we have installed a technology that allows us to produce electricity while the rest of the country is not producing and when the grid is down, Akwa Ibom state becomes an island of steady power. That is what His Excellency has done.
Concerning the recent improvement that we have seen in terms of power being delivered to homes, when His Excellency came in, we noticed that the problem was not generation, it was not so much of transmission even though there was a little problem there, but it was the distribution, so he summoned PHED Company and told them that they needed to improve immediately and right away they agreed to increase the power they deliver to Akwa Ibom people by 20 megawatts. That was very critical because previously, even though we were producing power enough to feed this state, they will not connect people to that power.
When His Excellency summoned the management of PHED, they agreed to add another 20mw. Now, that 20mw is not a new construction or new investment but just accepting the extra load. You know, for commercial and technical reasons they do not accept loads but when His Excellency met and persuaded them and though they are private business, they succumbed to adding another 20mw load.
That means if the load of the state was only 20mw by adding another 20mw, it might have risen to 40mw and that is what really allows us to have improved power now. His Excellency is not going to leave them alone; we are going to look at different approaches to make sure our people have power in their homes from all the power we produce in Akwa Ibom which is now more than 110 megawatts.
In the next two months we are going to move to 150mw, we want our people to have that power and the governor is looking at all the options. So that is a man that knows what he is doing, that is the man that is building on what his predecessor had done, of course he was part of that administration. That the IPP is running very effectively, is not magic but just the kind of leadership qualities imbued in the governor of the state. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/09/akwa-ibom-to-enjoy-uninterrupted-power-supply-soon-udo/ |

For every 50kva Mikano, 100 i pass my neighbour, 50 3KVA Gens have gone down.....
Ogbanje wants to die , it's the mum that will refuse it.. With Fashola in the saddle as Minister of Power, all the SW governors should start paying serious attention to generating power in each of their states. If Seye Makinde the former gubernatorial aspirant of Oyo State had won his bid, his blueprint on power would have been implemented, because he is a top-notch mechanical engineer with a background in power generation. He wanted to use the Turkish example - set up dual-fueled micro-turbines in every local govt area, that can run on natural gas and LPG. Ensure community devpt and residents associations are on the board of the local govt arm of the DISCOs, who would be entrusted with monitoring, debt collection and supervision of such turbines. Ensure those associations also monitor distribution and transmission facilities and report back to relevant DISCOs on their status. Where there is a need for a new transformer, and the community is unprepared to wait for any length of time for the DISCO to replace it, the community can tax its residents, buy the transformer, install it and ensure it is connected to the national grid. They would then be entitled to a rebate in their electricity bills over one year. 80% of Akwa Ibom is now covered by electricity and they have the most stable electricity supply in Nigeria, courtesy of the Ibom Power Plant which has been opened and is fed with gas from Seven Energy Gas Processing Plant. General Electric (GE) and afew multinationals have relocated to Akwa Ibom because of the stable power in that area. SW should team up with investors in this regard. Ondo State has oil wells and gas fields, so does Badagry in Lagos as well as parts of Ogun State. This task is achievable! There are too many private owned power-generation companies on paper that are yet to take off in Lagos and Ogun. Let the SW governors partner with them, or build their plants from scratch. There are World Bank grants for power-related projects and AfDB grants as well that can be deployed for this purpose. cc: GentleToks |

Ekiti Clay company resumes operation after 17 yrs | Punch newspapers |
Ire Clay Products Limited has returned to production 17 years after the company was shut due to major technical problems.
The Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Biodun Adedeji, told journalists that about N815 million was spent to resuscitate the company now worth N1.05 billion due to valuation on land and building of old Ondo State Bricks Work Limited.
According to him, the plant, when fully become operational on July 1, would focus on five products: Decking pot, hollow block, faces lift, partitioning blocks and sun breakers.
“It will reduce construction cost by 60 percent. The plant is the most modern brick plant in Nigeria and West-African sub-region and can compete with any of its peer globally.
“At present, the company has engaged over 100 youths mostly graduates in mechanical, electrical and other disciplines to work with the expatriates,” he said.
Adedeji recalled that efforts to revive the company-jointly owned by Ekiti State Government (70%) and Odu’a Investment Company Limited (30%) began in 2008 by former Governor Segun Oni’s administration who committed N90 million out of the required N400 million.
He added that his successor, Kayode Fayemi, on assumption of office contributed N351 million while the joint partner contributed N140 million after the initial N30 million because of increase in cost of equipment.
He gave his assurance that the company would produce 20 million units of bricks per annum, and create over 200 direct and indirect jobs. http://www.yohaig.ng/newspapers/the-punch/ekiti-clay-company-resumes-operation-after-17-yrs/ |

WIZGUY69: Federal government to build 150 housing units in ondo As part of efforts in making houses avoidable for Nigerians, the Federal Government has commenced the construction of 150 units of two and three-bedroom flats in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The project, which is being handled by Meadville Building and Construction Company, is expected to be completed within the next three months. Speaking during the inauguration of the programme, the State Controller of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Mrs. Mojisola Gbadebo, advised interested members of the public to key into the National Housing Fund Scheme. Gbadebo said this would enable them to benefit in the acquisition of the buildings as soon as they are completed. She further explained that the project was being sponsored by the bank in collaboration with the Federal Housing Authority Homes under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Lands and Housing. According to her, a prospective buyer who must be a contributor to the housing fund stands the chance of accessing the loan from the bank with six per cent interest rate with 30 years repayment period. She noted that the amount to charge the contributor depends on his or her income and age, adding that loan is not exclusively for salary earners but all income earners from the age of 18 years. I do hope this project would be executed using the red earth-compressed traditional method of building, we spoke about in the earlier pages. And they should engage good architects that would provide imaginative and affordable designs, not the lacklustre, bland design that characterises govt-built estates all over Nigeria. They could also use the clay bricks manufactured at Ire in Ondo State to build these houses. There are two different types of brick available in Nigeria. The first type is the compressed laterite brick, which is manufactured by pressure on a type of red soil found in abundance across 80 percent of Nigeria. Laterite bricks may be produced on a small scale, or even on-site, and require very little energy input in a nation where shortage of industrial energy is a major concern. The second type of brick is the baked clay brick, which is kiln-fired and requires greater investment and energy input.
To the homeowner, however, the cost difference between brick and block is substantial. It costs between 30 percent and 47 percent LESS to build with compressed laterite bricks than with blocks, according to a 2012 study from scholars at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State. Building with baked clay bricks costs 19 percent less, per square meter, than building with concrete blocks. This study included not only the cost of the materials, but also mortar and labour, in the calculation. Considering that structural elements constitute about 50 percent of the material cost of a new home, using bricks instead of blocks to construct the walls results in significant overall cost savings to the home buyer.
Furthermore, bricks in Nigeria are made from indigenous materials which support the local economy all the way up the supply chain; concrete blocks use cement as the major cost input, a material that is customarily expensive in Nigeria by world standards and of which a large proportion is imported, mainly from China.
Despite all of these advantages – delivering technical durability, superior appearance, and better cost – brick is used in only about 10 percent of housing construction in Nigeria. Bricks provide serious room for market expansion, and the dearth of brick homes is a dilemma. Let us examine some of the market myths surrounding bricks. http://oduainvestment.com.ng/brick-matters-nigerias-chance-to-improve-housing-industry/ |

ProfShymex: I know the FG has no interest in de-congesting Lagos.
However, if we ever get the needed regional government we desire, we can follow the blueprint that was used to de-congest London after the 2nd world war - to help with housing issues and help rebuild London.
The following cites were built across satellite towns around London and a lot of people were moved to this new cities:
- Stevenage - Crawley. - Hemel Hempstead. - Harlow. - Newton Aycliffe. - Hatfield. - Peterlee. - Milton Keynes. - Basildon. - Welwyn Garden City. - Bracknell. - Corby.
This is the PDF file of background story and the new cities that are being planned all over the UK: http://www.tcpa.org.uk/data/files/TCPA_New_Towns_Study_Stage_1_An_Introduction_EMBARGOED.pdf Similar suburbs have been springing up on the outskirts of Lagos too, but unlike London those suburbs are sprawling, unplanned communities with poor levels of infrastructure and zero amenities. In the past decade, areas like Ajangbadi, Igando and Okokomaiko along the Mile 2-Badagry expressway have sprung up; Ikorodu and Ijede is another sprawling area outside Lagos that is currently receiving govt attention, as housing estates of all sorts are being built there; Omole, Ojodu-Berger, Isheri, etc., are also new areas that have expanded rapidly along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and have become densely populated mini-cities on their own, unfortunately the level of infrastructure has not kept pace with the population explosion on that axis. Along the Lekki-Epe expressway, areas like Sangotedo, Awoyaya, Abijo, Lakowe, Bashorun, Ibeju-Lekki, Akodo have all sprung-up along that axis. Again, the population in those communities has quadrupled astronomically, but sadly infrastructure again cannot keep pace with the rise in population along that axis. The remodelled Lekki-Epe expressway is still inadequate to cope with the traffic in that region due to bad planning. 15 years ago, that whole stretch after Ajah to Epe was nothing but dots of villages, idyllic beaches, tons of palmtrees and not much else. I used to go for picnics with my friends then at Epe, as a youngster. Today, it is a totally different story. Those village lands have all been bought up, and have witnessed a heavy influx of people, businesses and all sorts. They have turned into another arm of the city, on its own. Ambode recently promised to install electricity in about 67 communities in the Lekki-Epe area. Let's hope he fulfils his promises. |
