ivandragon: Lol...
You chaps are funny.
So a national stadium that hosts events once in a while is more prestigious than a world renowned university that functions year round, has produced thousands of scholars, has lecturers presenting seminars & papers all over the globe & has been in existence for over 40 years?
Lol. Funny you... A world renowned university?? Hehehe....let me laugh very well. I attended UNILAG. So I am a proud Akokite. But I am not blind to the shortcomings of the school. In the past, UNILAG was well recognised internationally. But in the past 15 years, it has stopped being a force to be reckoned with. Ask any international scholar. In fact, most Nigerian universities are not even on the map of the top 50 universities in the world. If students are not protesting, the lecturers are going on strike for various reasons. When was the last time an international conference was held in UNILAG, that was covered by the foreign media? Please tell us. Are you aware that the school is only relying on past glory? Even when schools are being ranked in Africa, what position do you think UNILAG would currently occupy?? |

Chai!
So in your forward thinking mind a dilapidated stadium is more prestigious than UNILAG?
Am sure say na ede poly u attend. For your information, I attended UNILAG in addition to a foreign university. And there are many parts of 'Lag, that are dilapidated too. But they don't advertise it, so you will not know. I have already explained why an international stadium in the country's capital centre, would publicise MKO's name, far better than an old school somewhere. Now if you cannot grasp that simple explanation, then kindly collect a refund from your teachers. The All Africa Games were held at the Abuja National Stadium....
The games that year were the largest in All Africa Games history; 6,000 athletes from 53 countries competed in 22 sports, watched over by 1,200 officials. Over 1,500 journalists reported for the world's media. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileMenu |

maasoap: Which one, the fact that Nigerians and their government lack maintenance culture or the fact that a facility that cost 360 million dollars was named after Abiola? I just wanted to understand the source of your frustration so that I can know where the anger was coming from. You are as confused You dey mind dem? Some people don't use their brains when they want to make an argument. Airports have been renovated in the past. Stadiums too, can be renovated if funds are made available. It's no big deal. But the jokers are not looking beyond the current status of the stadium, or the potential it has, for publicising MKO's name to the rest of the world, if international tournaments are held within that stadium. |

ivandragon: Naming UniLag after MKO was a very prestigious & noble gesture...
UniLag is located in the commercial nerve centre of the nation & is one of the mostly culturally diverse tertiary institutions in Nigeria owing to its location...
Yet it was rejected by the very people who were requesting for a befitting gesture for the man at the time... Why do you people think in such a backward manner? So according to you, naming one university campus in one single SW state, is more prestigious than naming a whole national stadium sitting on several acres, which has the potential to play host to several international events and multiple foreigners, at the centre of the nation's capital city?? Within the next few years, what are the chances that the foreign press and international media would likely cover a major football match, or an international sporting event at the Abuja International Stadium, than a local event hosted at UNILAG? High, right? Can you quantify the exposure that would come out of such international tournaments being covered by the foreign press? The honour done to MKO Abiola in naming the Abuja stadium after him, is greater than the one that would have been done to him, if UNILAG was named after him. Stadiums can be renovated, once there is a will on the part of the authorities, and a budget provided for that purpose. Money spent on sports in this country, exceeds funds spent on tertiary education. Just think about it. |

jetroolowole: You nailed it. I have not thought of the patients assessment ratings. I'll have to discuss that with the developer team. HMOs are supposed to have critical roles but in Nigeria, I've not seen much impact. To me they are more like insurance companies that people only patronize when there is crisis. Our focus is more on preventive healthcare. Thanks for your observations and contributions. Yes, patient's ratings and feedback are most important. Unfortunately, there are very few avenues through which patients can provide feedback to hospitals, on the kind of care they received while attending such medical centres. In a few cases where they exist, such feedback can be swept under the carpet if they are negative, and there is no way for patients to track the status of their complaints. I recently went to my optician to get my eyes checked. My prescription had changed, and new lenses were recommended. Varilux lenses were prescribed. Total was over 25k including consultation. Guess what? My HMO said they could only cover 7k out of the total cost. This was the 1st time in 2 years, I would request for optical services. I hardly use my medical insurance for anything else, and I have only been to the hospital, once this year. Right now, I am totally displeased with my HMO, as they are quite aware that the cost of lenses has doubled in recent years nationwide, yet they keep pegging cost of prescription lenses at such an abysmally low level. |

ifyalways: The routes looks like a joke and if its aimed at reducing traffic its hilarious.
I expected to see ikorodu to VI, Ajah to VI etc . Madam, the routes are not a joke. If you have ever been caught in the horrible traffic on Lekki expressway, or on Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue trying to get to Ikoyi, you would bless Gokada for this initiative. Now, you can take a 10-minute boat ride to avoid the traffic. I have spent 3 hours from Oniru to Bonny Camp in V/I before, on a weekday, sweating and cursing inside the hold-up. There was no accident or obstruction. It was just Danfo drivers and other car drivers behaving as if they had left thier brains in the gutter, because the road was blocked. If you work on that Lekki-V/I-Ikoyi axis, and you transverse that road like 5 times a day during the week, you will understand the traffic madness that rules on that highway. olujastro: From the timetable, it looks like public transport. However, from the routes, it looks like a boat cruise along Five Cowries Creek. I don't see why workers need boats to and from Lekki, Ikoyi and VI. There are operational jetties at CMS, Ikorodu, Ajah, Apapa, Mile 2, etc. Major routes for real public transport that will convey workers should be routes like Ikorodu-Lekki-CMS, Ajah-Lekk-VI, CMS-Lekki, Mile 2-Apapa-CMS, etc. You don't see why workers need boats to and from Ikoyi to Lekki and V/I, simply because you have not encountered the traffic and congestion that is a daily feature on that road, every day of the week. It can take 45 minutes to 1 hour to navigate that route on a good day with minimal traffic, while it takes 2-3 hours on a bad day. Try it and see. |

mrAMG2: 80% of businesses is just focused on lekki/ikoyi/VI. It’s just tiring. Even on IG, it’s all lekki lekki lekki.
Op do you have any idea when those boats will traverse other Lagos waterways? I think this is just for starters. The traffic in that axis is horrible during the day. You can spend almost 2 hours just trying to get to Ikoyi from Lekki on a weekday, while taking the Ozumba Mbadiwe route in V/I. Gradually, they would expand to other areas. If they start the V/I to Mile 2 route, it would be a huge relief for commuters. |

Nice endeavour. I hope you will also include feedback from patients about treatment received in various hospitals. This could also lead to a kind of rating system for such hospitals. Assessment could cover patient's waiting time to see a doctor, efficacy of treatment, pricing, promptness of service etc. Also, encounters with HMO officials, and the method of accessing treatment under various health schemes would be useful. It would help us identify which HMOs to patronise, and which ones to run away from. |

Originalsly: Expensive dresses can be ripped... but not easily like.ehmmm.... minimum wage dresses which almost always have low thread count. It doesn't matter how well sewn ... of the dress is made of poor quality material... it will not last and likely to easily rip... fade... run... shrink...or disintegrate. If a brand name... then depending on the name... a premium is charged to wear that brand making it wayyyy over priced. Oga, stop it please. Minimum wage is how much, now? 30k. So a dress of 30k can be ripped easily? Where do you buy your own clothes? Even Dolapo Osinbajo the wife of VP Osibanjo has told everyone before that she buys Ankara of less than 10k and she sews it into beautiful designs for official functions. Have you ever ever seen her clothes getting ripped? |

Originalsly: Hmmm.... so what if she stretches...or bends ... puts stress on such dress and it rips.... then what? Is that how you want Nigeria First Lady to go viral? And yes... I agree with you 100%.... she should wear at least local designers to boost local sales. Michelle Obama did so.... for herself and kids... and that was a huge boost for the local designers and stores. E.g... she bought clothing from J.Crew.... saw an interview... the guy had all his suppliers on standby.... whatever she or her kids wore... were all sold out immediately after they appear in public. The designer for her inauguration dress was a local guy... he became famous overnight. She should promote local.. So you think expensive dresses cannot get ripped? Think again. It is how well a dress is sewn that matters, not how high the price tag on it looks, or how expensive it is, that makes it last. |

Ucheboss: I think most nairalanders should just grow up. The woman in question is the first lady of Nigeria. What is 1.5 m naira to her. She came from a very wealthy family, she has children who are doing well, she is a business woman. Most of our celebrities today flaunts handbags, wristwatches, even hair attachments that are worth over 5m naira. Oga, stop looking for excuses to justify her spendthrift nature, and extravagant, expensive tastes. She and her husband keep preaching "buy Made in Nigeria" to grow the naira, but is she practicing it? No! So na who be mugu? How much does she even earn as a First Lady, each month? You also said "she comes from a wealthy family." Which kind of wealthy family? How much are they worth? What kind of businesses do they own? Is her family as rich as Dangote? How many have they empowered? As for her kids, abeg don't even go there. When did her kids finish school? How much are their monthly salaries? Is it Yusuf that is a corper that will buy her 1.5 million dress on his corper's allowance? Or is it Zahra who is dependent on her husband's house keeping allowance, that will do so? |
