i do understand your point especially with respect to crazy billss and the apparent lukewarm attitude of the DISCOs. please know that there are three complaint levels
1) to your DISCO customer care
2) to your DISCO customer forum
3) and ultimately to NERC
always ensure that you get your letters officially stamped as received by the DISCO and keep the duplicate for when you intend to complain. the problem with the system is that most of this complaints are attended to by your local business district which is still staffed by the old NEPA staffs who are prone to cutting corners to meet billing and collection efficiency.
please forward the complaint to the head office of your DISCO rather than your local business area.
if you are metered, please ensure that you keep track of your meter readings and your tarrif classification. massive effort is ongoing by most DISCOs to overhaul the system
by the way, is your PPM a three Phase meter?
Yes, it is a 3-phase meter. angry

How many months will it take the DISCO to provide a SOLUTION to the problem?? It has been going on for ages!!

...In some areas, one in two energy consumers are not registered with their supplying DISCOs and about 50% of those registered are engaging in energy theft (meter bypass). When next you see someone saying they have been using a N1000 credit for a year, that person has probably bypassed his meter. This has led to the DISCOs running at a loss and unable to pay the GENCOs. This is why foreign investors are not coming in, no one want to invest in a company making loss...
Your post was rather long, so I only cut out the part that I wanted to reply to. sad

First, a lot of DISCOS are lying through their teeth and cheating their customers. It amazes me, why they wish to get paid for electricity they have not supplied to their consumers.

I shared a story several months ago, about how the electricity tarriff in our old family house in Festac suddenly jumped from 5,000 naira monthgly to 30,000 naira monthly, despite the fact that the house had been empty for over a year. When we got this bill we were shocked, and quickly launched a complaint with Eko Disco.

They asked us to write a letter complaining about the anomaly, that it would be investigated and reversed. This was duly done. The following month, we were shocked when the monthly bill was distributed and this time, the amount said to be due for electricity consumption had doubled! How come? Another complaint was lodged, and another letter promptly dispatched to register our displeasure. angry

Later, one of the marketing managers discovered that the wrong rate had been applied to calculate the estimated bill several months earlier. She even agreed that there was no way such figures could have been incurred in a residential home, if they were not running a factory.

She later advised that power supply should be disconnected from the house as it was still lying empty, but monthly access charges would still be left to run. Okay, oh. This was over 14 months ago. As I speak, the over-inflated bills still keep coming, and the wrong charges have not been reversed.

It occurred to me, that there are likely to be a lot of consumers being ripped off in this manner, through wrong computation of bills, which the DISCOS are still carrying around on their financial books. shocked sad angry

We then applied for a pre-paid meter. Till date, they have refused to entertain our requests claiming we must pay up all the outstanding bills on the old meter. And they know quite well, that these over-inflated bills were wrongly computed by their staff.

Now, if I tell you that the DISCOS are the most dishonest enterprise in Nigeria, would I be wrong?? shocked

Another factual experience - The pre-paid meter in my office went bad after less than a year of operation. The fault was duly reported at the local DISCO Office. What was their response? Go and buy another pre-paid meter for 60,000 naira (i.e. sixty thousand naira), in these hard times!! Ask me, if the term 'warranty' means anything to them. For the past 2 months, our office has been running on generators, while we wait for the DISCO to offer us a means of repairing or fixing the pre-paid meter! angry

lolz, if i get you clearly, you mean two independent states should the same transportation system. As in, If I want to fly goods from China to Ekiti state and when the goods land in Ekiti state; i would have to look for another means of transportation to move the goods to its final destination in my own state. Lolzz please your advice is not economically wise at all. If other governors have been thinking like this, there wouldn't have been much development in their states. Is it a bad thing for each state to have its own airport?
Every state cannot have an airport, simply because they think it is fashionable. Yes, if you fly goods to Ekiti State you would have to look for another means of transportation to get it to its final destination. That is what happens in different parts of the world. angry

It is a bad thing for each state to have an airport, when they do not have enough state resources, financial muscle or commercial activities to justify the need for an airport! it's not proper as a state to rely or depend on other state, you forget what happen between oyo and osun concerning lautech teaching hospital. You also did not consider the economic benefits the other state are deriving from this airport. For Instance, if u are a father would you use all your hard earned money to eat? Let us appreciate this man for this wonderful project, even though I no about of public funds would have been stolen. There is no Saints anywhere.... We are just trying to overlook somethings ni
I want to believe you are just joking. undecided Since when has an airport become the private property of a state? Are airports not supposed to be set up as commercial enterprises meant to generate revenue and profit, from its operations? Are they not meant to facilitate ease of travel? Now tell me why any person should think that by using an airport located in another state, he is relying on depending on the other state?? huh huh

Secondly, your use of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital as an example, is heavily flawed. Did people from Oyo State go to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and they were denied treatment? Did patients from any of the states offer to make payment for consultation and treatment, yet they were denied access to medical care? So what exactly is your point?? Do you think that even when you site a public enterprise within a state., members of different communities located within that state cannot fight over the use or the facilities of that public property?? shocked shocked What an archaic point of view!!

Akure airport has not made any tangible profit since inception, because it has been heavily underutilised since it was built. We are waiting to see how Ekiti airport will make the kind of profit that Akure airport has been unable to record, ever since it was built! angry Fayose just wants to waste the scarce, hard-earned resources of the state in setting up an airport in Ekiti! Osun workers are not smiling.
Abeg, tell them!! This rush by every state governor to build an airport is really appalling. angry

baby124:
OYO,and Osun should have a shared regional airport. Ekiti and Ondoshould also have a shared regional airport. While Abeokuta should have a cargo airport with Lagos having the international airport serving Lagos and Abeokuta
Good advice. Let us hope that the governors of these states use their common sense to apply this sound piece of advice, when taking decisions that concern the airports. Akure airport can be used by both Ekiti and Ondo States as their regional airport, while the existing Ibadan airport can be utilised by both Oyo and Osun citizens for their travel needs.

God bless you bros, not offended I understand I touched a nerve but I need to defend myself. No vex at my response.

Theoretical analysts? I run a successful business, work for a succesful business that performs active currency hedging in order to protect against currency fluctuations and was raised as an economist, I lived through SAP and saw large fortunes reduced to paper because people could not see the inevitable, my whole family runs businesses. Your projections were made nonesense of because your company was too blind to see the writing on the wall, and continues to be blind to the inevitable. You will be a casualty if this continues, plus your product is undoubtedly fragile top price and currency moves. You should probably go hire an MBA to help get your affairs in order. Seriously, jobs depend on your ability to face reality and not just engage in wishful thinking.

Balance of payments is real! You cannot just say do not devalue, you have to intervene with dollars in order to keep the naira at the same level, if you run out of dollars you cannot pay your debts, before that happens the CBN will stop defending the naira and will have to make it float.

This is inevitable, prepare for it.
Guy, you know nothing about my business so please do not even attempt to theorise. sad Each time the naira is devalued, what happens to inflation in local terms? What happens to production costs? Everything gets affected. And your statement about my company being blind to see the writing on the wall, is simply put quite condescending and myopic on your part, as you are rushing to pass judgement on a company you know nothing about!! shocked

So what is this hype about having an MBA to get affairs in order? shocked angry I already have one, so kindly do not presume that the management does not know what it is talking about. An MBA is not an end in itself, it is what you do with it that matters.

Sorry I didn't bother to read the whole article except the ninth paragraph which listed the effects of pegging a country's currency as against other currencies because I still stand by Buhari's decision not to devalue the Naira.

Pardon my ignorant view. I am not an economist but you don't have to be an economist or be learned to figure out that Nigerians (the middle class and the poor which are in the majority) will be doomed if that happens. The rich will get richer while the poor will get poorer.

For God's sake, we all know that devaluation is the right thing to do in a sane clime where "all things being equal" but you and I know that all things are not equal in Nigeria e.g 2+2 is not 4

The effects you listed above let me take for instance - drives up cost of capital
As an entrepreneur myself, I feel the pinch of having to spend more in my quest to grow my business but from my own point of view, that will be nothing compared to the hits I will receive if the naira is devalued as a result of the spiral effect of that decision. This further goes to buttress my point that the rich will get richer while the poor will get poorer because as a business man trying to stay in business, I will transfer the burden from my business to the consumers. While I get rich, they will get more poor(er)

*i have other sentimental reasons why the naira shouldn't be devalued but tired to be compelled to go beyond this point at the moment.

Parting shot - Before the naira is subjected to a debate whether to be devalued or not, the government should have put other things in motion e.g the diversification of our source of income from crude oil alone to other things.
God bless you!! Some theoretical analysts that have never run a business before, and are unable to gauge the impact of devaluation, will sit in one corner to postulate crap about the naira. sad

The recent devaluation done a few months back made nonsense of our company projections, and drove up the cost of our imported raw materials by more than 85%. We tried to increase prices of our finished goods to cover the increase, and guess what? We had the worst case of unsold stock in history! People simply could not afford to buy the products, at the new rates. The few that bought, placed orders for much smaller quantities than they normally did. undecided

Nigeria is more or less a mono-product economy dependent on oil. The price of oil is fixed internationally, and not by the individual countries producing the product. So why on earth are we devaluing??! It just doesn't make sense! shocked shocked angry

I run a business for someone at the moment, and I have partnered with several others to create and run new businesses, so let me tell you something: everything is NOT all about money. I didn't want to say anything about this issue but I'll clear few things here, firstly you are not the first person I have delivered car to and the said 630k is the least amount I have received upfront yet I have delivered according to agreement over the years.
I have made few mistakes as a human but I have never scam anyone in 9yrs (7yrs on nl) of working as a car dealer.
.
The said car is my personal car and the last nairalander (tobolos) who saw that car when he came to deliver foetus and drugs for my dog can attest to the far that my car was sound and well cared for.
I'm an automobile person who is well knowledgeable about car maintenance and people like Kingreign, abatically, gazzuz , nurey , fulaman98 can attest to that fact.
.
I put up that car for sale and what I wanted was 750k last, people have called to price that for 700k but I refused to sell.
When we negotiated I told 750k last, then additional 30k for delivery, 30k for fresh registration ( since you insisted I re-register on ur name) which totalled 810k.
You said you don't have enough cash that you need to borrow from friends, since I didn't want you to borrow just to buy car I reduced the price to 670k to accommodate the 60k for fresh registration and delivery.
You sent in 630k into my account to balance 100k when the car gets to you, from the 630k I 30k for the fresh registration and 20k was given to the driver to be on standby.
Due to the poor state of my health I asked my friend to take the car to mechanic around agric, he got there and his mech wasn't around instead of calling to me he took the car to another mech around volks bus stop for fixing.
He called me later and sent pics of what they were fixing on the car to me which I forwarded to you, due to wrong connection by the electrician my radiator fan was burnt the following day and I got another fan from Trinity and the car was ok aside the brake which they fixed but was still not ok.
.
That car left Lagos by 8am and got to PH by 3pm, I don't a junk car will do that.
The car was delivered you refused to pay my 100k, complaining about different faults and threatening me with father being an herbalist with mountains of juju in his compound.
Well for peace to reign I asked you to forget about the 100k, that means I sold a Benz C240 I was going to sell 750k to you for 570k, but you insisted that I send you another 50k.
Check around and see how much junk reg. Camry Tinylight and Honda Babbyboy is going for in the market, at that point I said I won't send you any other money because I won't my Benz 520k.
I told you that my lawyer will come with your 570k to bring my car back to Lagos and I still stand on that.
So has your lawyer refunded the money to the OP? What is the update?

The reason I ask is because of what transpired ages ago. Several years back when I was still quite young, the late Chief Remilekun Adetokunbo Fani-Kayode's wife was at a public function. I didn't know who she was, then. She was being congratulated by a few of her peers, on her lucky escape from an ailment. She replied that her preservation has always been in God's hands, and even went as far as recounting how God preserved her and her late husband on several occasions, including during the coup incident when he was held by soldiers at gun point on the night Akintola was killed. undecided

He had been abducted from his house at gun point and taken to Akintola's house. On getting there, the soldiers tried to get access into the late Premier's residence, but could not do so at the initial stage. Fani-Kayode was forced out, with a gun held to his head and told to call Akintola's name in order to lure him outside the house. sad

Fani-Kayode called out the Premier, but also warned him that the house was surrounded by rebels so he should be careful. Gunshots were exchanged. One of Akintola's bullets was reported to have hit the soldier holding a gun on Fani-Kayode. On seeing the soldier falling down, he took off his shoes and ran for his dear life. Luckily, he knew the terrain of the Premier's property, and found a place to escape, while the soldiers stormed the house looking for the Premier. undecided I will not go into the gory details, of what took place afterwards. The rest is history. cry

StOla:
In the early hours of 15th January 1966, soldiers led by Majors mostly of Igbo extraction led a mutiny that resulted in the murder of senior Northern and Western army officers and the Northern civilian Prime Minister in Lagos and Northern Premier in Kaduna.

The party of rebels also visited death on the Premier of the Western region, Samuel Akintola. The mutinous band from the West and Lagos then made their way to Enugu and suddenly lost their thirst for blood upon entry to their tribal enclave, choosing instead to hold discussions with the Eastern Premier - a fellow tribesman.

In the company of the mutinous band that visited Akintola was Remi Fani-Kayode, deputy Western Premier and father to the loquacious FFK.
He it was who called on Akintola to surrender to the soldiers. Akintola not having any trust for him or the soldiers, fired from inside the house injuring the leader of the mutinous band.
Akintola would eventually surrender and was summarily executed, but is on record as the only victim of that coup who fought back and even drew blood.

Remi Fani-Kayode was spared and later ran away to England with his family. His boss, Akintola, drew breath no more.

Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigerians need you to explain the role your father played in the successful murder of Akintola.

While at it, also explain the role you know Buhari played in the retaliatory coup of July 1966 or the progroms that followed. If you have no factual claims but only hope to whip up tribal sentiments, then GMB's disregard of your rantings is well deserved.
