Now let me say one or two things about Interviews The interview and test processes for teaching jobs is a bit different from normal office job interviews. In teaching interviews, more emphasis is placed on your ability to do the job, that is to know whether you can actually teach. So the questions are likely going to focus on the processes of teaching. Different schools have different methods of conducting their tests and interviews and also different kinds of questions. But most of them will test ur Maths skills, ur subject knowledge skills, English Language and Reasoning ability. So a person going for an interview in a school shud try and know basic Maths questions like Mean, median and mode, word problems, simple interest etc. Also try and know how to write Essays (very important) and how to answer comprehension questions. Another very important thing which I expect every teacher or prospective teacher to know very well is how to prepare a Lesson Plan. About 70% of d tests I've sat for contained this question-preparing lesson plan. Lesson plan is actually very simple to prepare if you take a look @ it, and its also very important to a teacher. Infact it is to a teacher what the Bible is to a Pastor! Next very essential thing is how to do Micro-teaching. Actually, most schools don't have time for tests and long interviews, they will just ask you to do a 10 minutes micro-teaching and from there they decide whether to hire u or not. So its important to polish your teaching skills. Have at least 2 or 3 topics you can teach very well in your chosen subject and learn it very well. #To be continued# |

Okay let me talk a bit about the appearance of a Teacher's resume. There's not much difference between a teacher's resume and the normal resume we all know. The layout or structure is the same with d normal resume. However, there's a slight change of language and content when writing a teaching resume. I don't encourage people to apply for different jobs with d same resume, it will hardly get you interviews. If you're interested in going into teaching, my advice is dat you create a purely teaching resume or CV which will contain teaching terms because every profession has terms associated with it. There are no hard and fast rules about it, but a teaching resume in my opinion shud contain: 1. Your goals and objectives or your personal profile if you have some experience in teaching. This shud align with the educational field, dat is what u want to achieve as a teacher or what you've done already if you're experienced. 2. Your Educational Qualifications 3. Your professional qualifications and training especially the ones related to teaching and education. 4. Your Experience: this is very important because most schools are after the years of experience the person have gathered as a teacher. Pls note dat it must not be only classroom experience, it can include your experience in tutorials, home lesson or even church teaching in childrens department, or your NYSC teaching experience, Yes nah! Your duties shud also be highlighted, that is those activities you carried out as a teacher, eg WAEC preparation, note preparation, exam setting and marking, classroom mgt etc. Use bullet points to highlight them. Just sell yourself. 5. Add the subjects you can teach: yes this is important. If you can take physics, chemistry and biology, pls let dem know by adding it on a section of d resume. 6. Also create a Cover letter to accompany your resume. Personally I hardly apply for any job without a cover letter. It gives u an edge over those dat only sent their resume. Above all just be creative and distinctive with your resume and application and by God's grace, interview invitations will start pouring in. Peace |
