PoliticsRe: What Percentage Of Nigerians Have Done NIN? by lawani(op): 7:44pm On Dec 09, 2025
nairalanda1:
Well, you need NIN if you live in the cities and rural areas not far from the urban areas.

If you are a rural farmer that lives out in the rural areas, and has been doing nothing but farming, you may not need NIN

For example, there are many states in the North who don't have banks in half their LGA's...which was a major problem with Buhari's cashless policy. And that means millions without BVN and even NIN.

The problem really is our records system does not cover the entire country...if it did, maybe we would see some improvement. Maybe if we had mobile teams that registered every new birth and issued a NIN for each child born...maybe..

But for now the only way to count nigerians is a census, not NIN or BVN. (The controverises over census arise because all states in nigeria are not productive enough, and even when we had regions, all of them were not earning enough to function well without government help...so census figures are used to allocate government resources...which is very flawed and leads to inflated numbers...that's why you people should vote for sane leaders who will cure us of resource dependency)
I don't agree with you that a sizeable percentage of Northern adults don't have NIN. Have you been following and analyzing the registration?. The last time I checked the North has over 55 million entries with the South having over 43 million. The gap is even wider than one would have expected so they are registering in the North. How many Northerners have you ever encountered without a bank account? Their states don't have as much banks as southern states neither do they have as much hotels and I really wonder why but what is NIN if not census by other means? I trust NIN more than census. However the indicator of population that I trust most is igr.
PoliticsRe: What Percentage Of Nigerians Have Done NIN? by lawani(op):
Salewa97:
NIN is compulsory for all Nigerians.

The government should start closing the loopholes.
I mean that children leave it off until they need it. The point I am driving at is that with a good identity management commission there will be no need to spend money on census. And another point is are we really up to 220 million?
PoliticsWhat Percentage Of Nigerians Have Done NIN? by lawani(op): 3:11pm On Dec 09, 2025
The total number of NIN registration including those that have died is around one hundred and twenty six million. If we can estimate the percentage of Nigerians that have done NIN by checking a population sample, then we will be able to arrive at a good estimate of Nigeria"s population.
The people that have not done NIN are people that don't need bank accounts, most especially children who are not yet in higher institutions
What percentage of the population do you think the one hundred and twenty six million represents?
PoliticsRe: VAT Is A Consumption Tax, Not A Sign Of Productivity by lawani(m): 1:31pm On Dec 09, 2025
VAT is a measure of a kind of productivity. It is paid by companies who add value to raw materials before selling. Such companies are mainly domiciled in the west. If your expenses is 100 naira and your sales is ten thousand naira you will pay a lot of VAT. Farmers don't pay VAT and companies that don't publish their book don't pay much. Credit goes to those companies and by extension the states they are located in
Then the SE is very small and with low population and they are not doing worse than the NW with three times their population.

That an interesting perspective from you on Oranmiyan and his supposed revenge mission after the alleged expulsion if Oduduwa. I've NEVER heard of that before though BUT I would like you to give me some book references I can read up on that. I know full well that when Oranmiyan [who was the FIRST EVER Oba of Benin as confirmed in the 2016 coronation speech of the current Oba Ewuare 11 of Benin Kingdom] the founder of the current Oranmiyan Dynasty returned from Benin after Eweka was conceived via the Yoruba community of Usen (in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State where Chief Gabriel Igbinedion's mother hailed from) where Afelogiyan, who was Oranmiyan's OLDER brother was the FIRST EVER traditional ruler of, Oranmiyan indeed returned to Ife (Ufe) and founded the Oyo Kingdom which metamorphosed into the Oyo Empire [towards the Tapa (Nupe) and Bariba (or Batonu) areas which I would situate as modern Kwara State].

However, cultural traditions from Ile Ife CLEARLY state that the man who founded the current dynasty of rulers in Ife came from Oke Ora, hence, every Oba or Ooni of Ife (Ufe) has to go to Oke Ora just 8 miles from Ife for the coronation rites as a mark of symbolism.
Unfortunately I can't remember the exact book in which I read the account

PoliticsRe: Northern Governor And Their Ethnicity: Here Is The Arrangement by lawani(m): 6:00pm On Dec 08, 2025
Konquest:
It's important to emphasize here and now that Oduduwa himself came from Oke Ora his ORIGINAL homeland (just 8 miles away from Ile Ife) where he met the ancestors of the current Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom located in the Ilaje LGA of Ondo State. The ancestors of Yorubas have lived for centuries LONG before Oduduwa was even born.

Nigeria's former Ambassador to Germany, the revered emeritus Professor Jide Osuntokun and Professor Banji Akintoye are some of the iconic historians of Yoruba descent who have long revealed these FACTS of history about the presence of several autochtonuous communities in Yorubaland based on several archaeological evidence. Oduduwa himself is just the progenitor of MOST of today's Yoruba Kings or Obas extending from Yorubaland in Nigeria to Benin Republic and Togo. This is why any new Ooni of Ife (Ufe) has to go to Oke Ora to pay homage as part of the coronation ceremony or rites.

The descent from the sky by Oduduwa as you know is a Yoruba liturgical metaphor which refers to his descent from the sacred hills of Oke Ora. (Oke means hill and Ora is the name of a Yoruba deity).
When we say Oduduwa there is not just one. Yoruba believe in reincarnation. There is not just one Ogun, Esu, Obatala, Orunmila and etc. There is an ancient Oduduwa that landed from the sky. There was an Ogun that landed from the sky and there have been several Oguns
Then I have heard one story that makes me to believe the last Oduduwa who established the current dynasty is not from Oke ora but from outside Yoruba land
When Oranmiyan returned from Benin to Ile Ife he decided to go and revenge the expulsion of Oduduwa from where he came from. He gathered troops and guess what he headed North towards the river Niger. The Bariba did not let him cross the river and the Nupe king gave him a wife. He and his followers settled and founded Oyo

😂😂😂 who did the census for you to arrive at the figure you are bandying? NwOSU, don’t delude yourself…Yorubas are minority in SE with a less significant number. I served in owerri and did my camp in Umuna bende Abia state. I can tell you for a fact that even Hausas have far more number in the SE than Yorubas. Through out my stay in owerri, aside for the few yoruba corpers, I hardly come bye a Yoruba man in owerri during my daily activities. The few are met are either transferred base on work or artisans that are contracted to work on building project, because Yorubas have the the labour force of artisans eg, bricklayers, tilers, plumbers, mechanics etc ibos don’t have this labour force so they contract mostly Yorubas or Togolese and they usually return back home to yorubaland after their contract….they don’t base in the east. Yorubas are progressive people and they migrate to more prosperous and productive regions. That’s why we don’t leave our region because it is still the most productive and most economically viable region of the country……if you said Yorubas are much in PH I would have agreed with you but not SE grin and don’t delude yourself, if Nigeria break up Today, the Ibos will no longer enjoy the privileges they enjoy in Lagos today grin
They will live in Nigeria like Lebanese Indians or Chinese and same with Yoruba in the East, PH and etc. Then true competition will start.
I once read an interview where the Yoruba leader in Anambra says Yoruba population there is over 500k. If that's true the whole SE will have over a million

Lowest population is as a result of bad mentality breeding insecurity, hence no visitors or investors. You need to evolve mentally.
They also have the highest population density as a zone and have millions of non indigenes living there. SE is small with low population so they will naturally have low revenue. Given their population the NW should have the biggest revenue but they dont

grin what is the population of the Yorubas in the east compared to the millions of ibos in the west? And btw you can’t eat your cake and have it…..if Nigeria breaks, you will become a second class citizen in yorubaland and may even require visa to enter into our land and also pay huge taxes to do business grin
If only one million Yorubas are in the east it is enough. Out of seven Yoruba governors two were born in the east. Kwara and Osun governors. That will tell you Yoruba are many in the East and will not leave even if Nigeria breaks up. Everybody will tax businesses on their land. West Africans don't require visas to live in west African countries. Then I am Yoruba and not Igbo and I prefer a Yoruba led country to Nigeria. I want Igbo and Hausa led countries too where local languages are official

PoliticsPension Funds And Full Employment by lawani(op):
Pension funds and full employment.

The aim or policy in every country on Earth should be to make every retiree a high net worth individual while every young and healthy person will have the right to a means of livelihood.

This is better than paying welfare benefits to anybody whether old or young

The idea that artificial intelligence can create unemployment should be jettisoned. In a truly high human civilization it is whatever jobs that are left that will be shared to everybody with the government as a broker until there is more than enough.
Academic research alone can employ everybody. There are always things that needs to be done and unemployment in any society is proof that the society has not gotten it right

There should be pension funds in every country that actually add to the estate of subscribers. Someone that worked for thirty five years starting from minimum wage should be able to have enough at retirement to at least be a director in a small company.

Pension funds administrators in Nigeria are charged to grow at a minimum of five percent per annum.

When you retire you can take your funds and invest it in equity on your own. Anything invested in equity especially in a blue chip company is safe from inflation. It is like building a house. Once you do that you are safe from inflation

Time is money and everybody should by statute be compelled to turn their long years on Earth to a high net worth. It should not be left to a few entities. Enough of complaining about wealth concentration. Let everybody get involved.

There can be set backs. For example people can lose all their funds in a bad investment. However in Nigeria all your funds are not released to you at once to mitigate against such.

I have not read history up to where Okotie eboh was accused of being at variance with Zik. However as Finance minister he was in the thick of the ten percent bribery allegation on the ruling coalition. Contractors allegedly were expected to give back ten percent of whatever they are paid to finance the party in government.
However during the time of the coup the coalition had already fallen apart and the NPC was in another coalition with Akintola's NNDP. I think we could say the NCNC was no longer in power by then but Zik was the President. I am not very sure of the details

Azikiwe didn't know that the Position of President he was given was Ceremonial and almost powerless.
He was already in it before he found out

Awolowo had approached Azikiwe for a Coalition that would have made Azikiwe Prime Minister while Awolowo had agreed to be minister of Finance.

It was the British that persuaded Zik to accept the Position of Ceremonial President instead with Balewa as PM

If you had to Choose between Ceremonial President and Substsntive PM which one would you choose?

Be honest
The President is the highest ranking citizen like King and Zik's name was written in the constitution. It was a high honor and he still had his boys or subordinates as ministers. Parliamentary system isn't rigid like that and they had meetings, shared posts and worked together

How can you compare ceremonial President to Minister of Finance?. Azikiwe was not a figure head. They ran the country together. Okotie eboh that was finance minister was his NCNC subordinate. We now understand why the British believed that having Azikiwe as Prime Minister or Minister of Finance would have wrecked Nigeria almost immediately after independence and why they fought very hard against Azikiwe having any real power.
