Politics / Why I Don't Do Afro Centrism by lawani: 8:06pm On Sep 21
I do not subscribe to dividing people into black and white because it does not align with Yorubaness or even basic common sense. I don't do Afrocentrism or pan Africanism because there are tens of millions of white Yorubas by origin in the New world. They have no other origin. It does not align with basic common sense because DNA tests will show that East Africans are not more related to west Africans than they are to Europeans

To go around and get enough people to sign is expensive. Do you think it is a straight forward thing?. Lagos is part of Nigeria and Lagos is different. There are good results in Lagos. They have a robust civil service and improving infrastructure. Therefore when condemning Nigeria, remember Lagos is different is what I mean

There is no other way to control the rampaging religionists than to legally kick them out of the public space. Their practice is not compatible with the progress of humanity and they should practice in private because of that while children are taught in schools that God is a gentleman

The best approach to public education is simple. Basic education should be compulsory while tertiary education should be sponsored by all means for all those who qualify.
Culture / Approach IFA Carefully by lawani: 9:51am On Sep 20
Approach IFA carefully

When we are dealing with the spirit realm, we should be well aware that we are dealing with intelligent beings that can appraise us. There is a story in Obara Oyeku (Obara inaki) that illustrates this position.
Story
A certain man who was doing well by all means decided to approach IFA to ask for still more blessings.
On getting to the priest, he made his prayers silently and the priest used IFA to determine what his prayers was. Obara Oyeku appeared to the priest. Since he was very comfortable financially, the priest told him to offer as ebo his only horse before a certain date. The man was not happy as he did not want to let go of his only horse. He refused to give up the horse to the priest and he subsequently died after the deadline. The horse he did not want to give up was what his children sold to raise money to bury him.
The lesson in the story is that we can work hard and plan but we should not let only financial well being or prosperity be our main motivation. Our ambition should be to solve societal problems and not to be billionaires when we are already millionaires

Yes. They are. It’s not even that they can’t take more risks but you see the level of corr.uption, NEPOTISM, bigotry, tribalism going on in public service ehn, it won’t allow government to operate, optimally, in any business it ventures into the moment such government has significant influence/control on such companies.
That’s what killed all government businesses that d.ied.

Fear civil servants before you fear Satan.

Most start ups fail, whether owned by government or not. Government should focus on governance but there is nothing wrong in taking risks once in a while too.

Check the % of ownership.

Other than Wema Bank, Oodua Group’s remaining subsidiaries are performing below average.

A reduced stake in those subsidiaries, by government, would have enhanced their performances.

You can imagine Visa Phone, Starcoms etc that were even owned (majorly) by private investors died. Where is Ooduatel?
Where is Cocoa Industries? Where is Epe Plywood? I can continue mentioning them.

Wemabod Estate is not dead yet because of housing shortage in Lagos and in Nigeria.
I agree that government should concentrate more on governance rather than majority stakes in business visions but they are free to take risks too.

Happy sunday to you all. I have a problem. There is this young man i just met 2yrs ago. I'm yoruba, he's delta by tribe. We've been just platonic friends but now he wants my hand in marriage. I am a graduate of OAU but he only stopped sch at sec sch. He attended a technical school later, learnt a skill in electricity. Workin now wit an ok salary. I feel no qualms abt marrying this guy becos he's so humble, very hardworkin and selfless, ALWAYS ready to put people's interest ahead of his own. He has a positively dangerous sense of humor, cracks me up so badly lol. Plus, he's so so cute. Lol. We flow well. Problem is, people are talkin abt our educational differences and its gettin to me. I'm ok wit him but people, even my family feel we dont match. I luv him badly. MUST HE BE A GRADUATE TO BE MARRIAGEABLE? Please i need reasonable nature responses. Tnx.
The man as described can still go to school. Support him to go to school even up to PhD.

It will still go moribund, so long government’s stake is up to 40%.

Reduce government’s stake to just 10%. This will be easy to manage and fund and may be be seeing as non-viable for successive governors.

40% is a controlling interest, in accounting, which could give the government to exercise significant influence on the company.
This may lead to state government putting inexperienced people on the Board and other Executive positions etc.

On a lighter note, is the Mill ready to compete with those Indian mills scattered all over Nigeria?

Those ones can play balls. If you know, you know.
There are still some companies functioning properly owned by the Oodua group of companies

Yes, Jesus Christ himself would never have been in support of preaching to Gentiles whom he saw as dogs. Paul who never met Jesus was the one that started preaching to Gentiles
Religion / Who Died For You?. by lawani: 6:52pm On Sep 18
Who died for you?.

As Americans, there are people who died for the nation against Britain while fighting for independence and during the civil war and subsequent military engagements around the world. We know those who died for the IJESA nation throughout the centuries of existence of the nation. Poole war, Fejeboju war, Kiriji war and etc. Those who died for the Yoruba nation willingly in Nigeria include people like Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, Colonel Victor Banjo and thousands of others during the civil war and after the state murder of Bashorun Abiola. It is an attack on the spirits of the true heroes to say Jesus Christ died for Americans, the IJESA or the Yoruba as a whole when we know those who actually died. Making the statement about Jesus Christ in public should not be encouraged in any nation.
Nairaland / General / Re: Does The Color Of The Skin Determine The Degree Of Genetic Relationship? by lawani: 5:18pm On Sep 18
Thesmera:
That's a great point! Indeed, skin color does not affect DNA, and this highlights our common biological basis. Every gene in our DNA, is a clue to our origins and health. I found it interesting to read MyHeritage reviews and learn how DNA research helps people learn more about their heritage and family ties, regardless of outward traits. It proves once again that genetic data is universal and equal for everyone. Such research provides insight into how our unique genetic traits affect our health and ancestry, emphasizing that in a scientific context, we are all the same.
My whole point is that some light skinned people are more related to some non light skinned people than they are to other light skinned people and etc. Australian aborigines are more related to Europeans than they are to Africans despite being dark skinned. Yoruba might be more related to Germans than they are to East Africans and etc given the distance between them. We can not say genetic data is equal for everyone like you said. I hope you see my point

1. It doesn't matter what they are or were so long as they are the deities worshipped by the Yorubas. undecided
What I am trying to say is that spirits outnumber humans and the supreme God is just one of them no matter the name you call it
Health / Re: 54-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide In Lagos by lawani: 8:19pm On Sep 17
Kobojunkie:
1. Wrong! Not all cultures believe what you claim. undecided

2. The deities of the Yorubas are worshipped by the Yorubas alone. The same pretty much applies as far as other ethnic groups in Nigeria. So when a Nigerian uses the word "God", the sensible thing is to inquire as far as the identity of said deity. undecided

The deities of the Yoruba are Yoruba ancestors added to some natural things which we believe have resident spirits. Everything have resident spirits. Other people have their own ancestors. There is no culture without its own Ogun, Oya, Osun and etc that manifested in those ways when alive. People generally revere (worship?) the spirits of their ancestors world wide. There is no reason to leave your own ancestors and be propitiating other people's but religious people don't know this.
When an Ur hobo person say Osanobua, I know it is Olodumare they speak of
Health / Re: 54-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide In Lagos by lawani: 8:09pm On Sep 17
Kobojunkie:
What you described is impossible given all of the various deities all have different attributes ascribed to them in all of those cultures you describe. undecided

For instance, Jehovah claims He is God only to Israelites, so He cannot be God also to Nigerians since He made clear His only inheritance in the land of men are those born of the blood of Jacob. The Yorubas will tell you that their gods are not gods to other people so, I think you should try to closely examine these ideas you hold more closely to realize how very flawed they truly are. undecided
There are beings in heaven and God is their head. They have their own civilization. I think all cultures agree on that but some, starting with Jews believe only the supreme God should be worshipped and you should not say even hello to angels. The Yoruba have orisas who are just outstanding humans. After their death, their spirits are worshipped. God is not sacrificed to at all because no one knows its favorite food and the belief is that God is too distant. It will be like a pupil going over the head of the class teacher to report to the President
