The Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court has remanded the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, Mr. Nyong Richard, and a contractor, Odofin Taiwo, in police custody for their role in the collapse of a five-storey building in Lekki, Lagos.

The building, which was under construction had collapsed on Tuesday, killing 35 people and injuring several others.

Magistrate, Mrs. Afolashade Bokotu, ordered that Richard and Taiwo, who were brought to the court in handcuffs earlier today should be kept in police custody at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba for the next 30 days, pending the conclusion of police investigation.

I said this in a previous thread and i am reposting what i think about Lekki Gardens. If we truely want to fight corruption, it should start with people like Richard Nyong and his band of greedy murderous Developers.

I have chosen not to talk about Lekki Gardens a long time ago when i investigated them and found so many illegal things they were doing. They used aggressive marketing to sway people to buy their substandard carcasses and made billions from them. They knew Nigerians like awoof and took advantage of their greed. A cursory inspection of their houses was glaring enough to see that these were substandard shell structures that violated so many rules of building but people chose to follow the cheapness and bonanza in exchange for pain.

Apart from the defects in their title and arrogance of the management when you tell them to produce documents to validate their claims, their contract of sale is nothing to write home about. It makes you a slave to the management and you can do very little about it. Thier service charges and outrageous bills made life very difficult for the subscribers and they have very poor customer service. Its all about the money.

I had a client who contracted me to investigate a property he paid for and what i discovered made me shudder at the magnitude of fraud and negligence practiced by Lekki Gardens behind the scenes. The company is more like a ponzi scheme where they advertise properties to buy into Phase 6 but they have not finished completing the houses paid for subscribers of phase 2. They use the money obtained from future subscribers to finish up the early subscribers and before they get to phase 6, they would have started marketing Phase 14. Its all about aggressively getting your money.

Those who had issues with them know the problems they are still encountering to get a refund. They have stringent clauses in their agreement that makes it very difficult to get a refund once you pay and it could take months or years before you see a percentage of it.

Lekki Gardens was a good idea but the greed of the promoters has led them to this quagmire. How can you remove the seal of the Government to stop work and continue the construction and expect to go Scot free? Underhand tactics and violations of building laws is a trade mark of Lekki Gardens. For those still subscribing, it best you struggle to get your money out now fast because the future looks bleak. For those who were thinking of buying into their schemes, better look else where unless your money would be used to settle the impending class action and wrongful death suits.

The death of the 30 people should not be washed away. This is not a case of fraud or negligence. People died because of their underhand tactics to get money at all cost.

Typical Omoniles. All brawns and no brains. They would do everything to cheat you out of your money illegally but when they finally get the money they would spend it on frivolous things such as marrying new wives or spending it lavishly in beer palors. Some are so stingy with the money that they would hoard it from their immediate family and friends. Worst part of it is that despite the huge sums they make from land transactions either legally or illegally, they still live like poverty struck hobos in shanties. You hardly see them building good apartments or sending their kids to the best school. To them it's operation chop everything finish today and beg tomorrow for more. That's why they are the most dangerous people to deal with and you must be very careful when dealing with them.

Last week I met an Omonile who duped over 20 people at Ibeju a Lekki near the free trade zone. He resold the lands to different people who refused to take possession and made over N36million in 3 years. When the buyers discovered he duped them, they arrested him and he confessed that out of the N36million, he gave only N40,000 to his elder sister. His elder sister thought he sold only one land for N400,000 and he was giving her 10% of her share. His immediate children had no idea their father sold their inheritance without their consent and upon further investigation we discovered that he even resold his late wife's grave and used the money to marry 4 new wives.

The bottom line is that before you deal with an Omonile or these kind of people, make sure you investigate them properly because they would just chop your money and would never refund you. They are heartless scallawags that would turn your life savings into tissue paper if you don't verify them and the lands they claim to own.

Hello Lawyer, don't know if this is the right thread to ask but let me just shoot my question.
Please how can an investor protect him or herself from real estate developers that build blocks of apartments and directly sells to the public in units? Most time the apartments are expected to be finished in a year or two but in an event where unforeseen circumstances occur and the project cannot be completed like, death of the CEO, delays in raising the needed funds within the stipulated periods thus costing in building increases or maybe outright fraud. What can be done to protect yourself/money against these situation.

Everything needed to protect yourself is in the Contract of Sale. There are certain covenants that must be adhered to irrespective of the following disasters you have highlighted above to protect you. Before you sign the contract of sale, get your lawyer that is well versed in Real estate matters to vet it for you to include or remove clauses that would be beneficial or destructive to you.

You see why Media sensationalism is not good? When he was first accused and Arrested, APC supporters ridiculed and Mocked him. They called him all sorts of unprintable names and labelled him a Thief. He has been cleared of all the trumped up charges. All the people who abused and mocked him would go back into their caves with their tails within their legs without offering an apology or admitting they were wrong. They won't ask for forgiveness for tarnishing his image. They won't retract their false statements and silly sensationalism to whip up public sentiments to convict a Man on social media. They would quietly ignore this thread and look for the next person to ridicule and tarnish their names once they hear the person has been arrested.

People should realize that until a person has been convicted for an offence, he is innocent until pronounced guilty. The court of Nairaland public opinion is not valid and only helps to fan the embers of hate and badbelle. Orubebe might have played an abominable role during the election results but to label him as a thief and sensationalize his ordeal was uncalled for.

I know there are so many people here paid to whip up public sentiments by publishing false stories, beer palor rumors and gossips to drive "Likes" on their blogs but people should also know when to apologize when they are wrong. We should stop this media sensationalism of people arrested without a proper conviction. Anything can happen in court and the people you mock could be set scot free like Orubebe. Without Proper admissible evidence Buhari's Anti corruption war would just be another noise making media prosecution with no jail time.

Till date Buhari has not secured a single conviction but we have been flooded with more than 1000 stories of EFCC arrests this or CCT has arraigned that. Legal battles are not won in the Media and the more these people arrested are mocked on Social media, the more defiant they would get to make sure the Government loses its legal battle.

No sir. Its best for the Buyer to use his own lawyer because its his own lawyer that would protect the interests of the Buyer when the negotiation and transaction takes place. If problems occur after the transaction, do you think the Seller's lawyer would defend the interest of the Buyer? He is only responsible to the Seller who is his principal.

What is wrong with Pdp governors having a caucus meeting? Are they not elected governors of their respective states confirmed by the supreme court? When APC governors and members have their own caucus meetings you don't insult or blame them meanwhile APC has 13 Governors who were former PDP stalwarts that held powerful positions in Nigeria for years and looted our country dry but now they are in APC, they have automatically turned into saints today devoid of corruption.

Today we heard how El Rufai signed cheques worth over $180 Million to a Chinese firm for a non existent railway project but the APC online propaganda team conveniently chose to ignore that fact and the massive corruption allegations leveled against him all because he is now in APC. Most of them i know are embarrassed and would choose not to comment on it but when it's time to spread propaganda lies of $1million hidden in soakway or ridicule Okonjowela without proof, they would go haywire.

Bottomline is that we should stop this unnecessary media sensationalism to ridicule people just because you don't like their faces or party. If you are ready to mock Metuh for his on going legal N400Million case, you should also be ready to point fingers at El Rufai for defrauding Nigeria off $183 Million

EFCC have charged Monan trading company and others including Mrs. Moji Yakubu for forgery of deed of assignment and the stealing of Oyetubo Joko Tade Estate Resources Limited’s land in Sango Tedo, Eti-Osa LG, Lagos State.
This is the culmination of a long drawn battle between the plot owners on one hand, and Monan trading company alongside some disgruntled family members (Omoniles) who allegedly aided the alleged forgery and resale of lands already sold and possessed by legitimate plot owners from Legal Partnership Consult, the authentic attorney to Oyetubo Joko Tade Estate Resouces Limited.
It has been a long walk to seek justice but we, plot owners, have faith that justice, equity and fairness will prevail. We have pursued legitimate route to address the matter and have also warned members of the public not to buy stolen lands from Monan.
In the course of such warnings, we encountered many attacks from the foot soldiers of Monan trading company, even on Nairaland. A respected lawyer on Nairaland is one of them.

A civil-society and non-governmental organisations group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), on Thursday said it had again petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the activities of the Lagos State Government.

CACOL’s Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran, made this disclosure as the group staged a peaceful protest that kicked off from Ikeja under bridge, with a detour to the government house and then ended up at EFCC.

He said they decided to involve the commission again because the objective of the group was targeted at fighting corruption and corrupt persons by any means possible at all levels in Nigeria.

In the petition made available to THISDAY, the group said their grouse was the failure of the Lagos State Government to provide answers to various questions raised by the coalition since 2010.

He said the questions raised were over the detailed budgetary reports of income and expenditure for the period of 2007 to 2011.

Adeniran said so far, the state government was yet to accede to this demand, as it allegedly kept hiding under one legal technicality or another since 2010.

In the petition, the coalition said it had in reaction to an advertorial placed in one of the national dailies on Thursday, January 28, 2010 under the title: ‘The True Face of Lagos,’ petitioned the EFCC on February 3, 2014, requesting for thorough investigation and necessary actions.

He said the publication had contained several allegations bordering on financial recklessness and misappropriation against the state government.

Adediran said the protest was because answers were not forthcoming even after another petition on February, 2011, addressed to the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding that they investigate itself and perform its oversight functions’ on the allegations of financial impropriety leveled against the state governor.

He said house however replied vide its letter dated February 24, 2011 stating its inability to accede to CACOL’s demand, citing an earlier court injunction which stopped further deliberation on the matter until the case was disposed of.

Again, he said they forwarded a reminder to its earlier petition to the EFCC on August 6, 2013, to express their displeasure at the alleged utter neglect and the slow pace of investigation.

The coalition said based on facts at their disposal, they had placed different advertorials titled Alpha Beta Consulting (ABC) Deductions: Take a stand now.

He said: “The advertorials unveiled the facts surrounding the process of tax collection, remittance and deductions to the aforementioned consulting firm which is rumoured to belong to a former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu.

“Facts have it that the ABC is contracted to deduct from source a regular 15 per cent of all monies collected as taxes in the state at any given time or period.
“As a matter of verifiable fact, a total sum of N27,743,310,520.93 was paid to ABC between January 25, 2012 and October 26, 2014 through Skye Bank Plc account.

“These unfolding revelations are not only mind-boggling, but embarrassing as they have once again opened up the Pandora’s Box of the rots and high level of impunity in governance in Lagos State, with particular emphasis on the abuse of office, unguided recklessness and profligacy at the state level.


“Against this backdrop, CACOL is calling on the EFCC to make public your findings on the allegations of the ‘True Face of Lagos’ as contained in our previous petitions.

“We urge you to prevail on your personnel to expedite actions on the request made that the allegations raised in our petition are diligently investigated, its report made public, and whoever is indicted be prosecuted and punished appropriately.”

It became so bad that Cacol has decided to Sue EFCC for ignoring the petition meanwhile the EFCC Boss is lying that no one from the opposition has petitioned any member of the ruling party.

This selective witch hunt must stop. I don't care if all the politicians and military rulers from 1960 to 2016 are going to be investigated for corruption and prosecuted but EFCC should stop facing only PDP. Anyone in PDP who is found wanting for embezzling Nigeria's money should face the law but why are they shielding APC politicians when we know APC is made up of 65% of EX PDP governors, ministers, special advisers, specials assistants, commissioners etc? Did they not steal money too the moment they decamped to APC? Or is it current members of PDP who chose to remain that they intend to investigate only? It makes no sense.

Look at Amechi case, FBN Trustees published reports that he withdrew N55Billion to N1Billion of Rivers State Money in just One year to Fund Buhari's Election. That is madness and cruel to the poor people of Rivers. Petitions were written to the EFCC to investigate Amechi but he was also rewarded as a Super Minister. Why would the opposition not assume this a witch hunt? The Chairman is being selective end of story.

The good news is that this is 6 months post elections and everyone is waking up from their slumber to realize that we are going to experience the worst 3 and a half years ever in Nigeria in terms of a looming recession and false promises that cannot be met without sinking Nigerian into further problems. I did not vote for Buhari and i am very proud of this single achievement because i wake up every morning smiling knowing that i did not vote to further impoverish Nigerians because of dense SAI BABA Chants without questioning the capacity of Buhari to improve the lives of Nigerians economically.

The last 6 months has shown Buhari has no plans for Nigeria other than to shout probe every day and arrest corrupt officials. That was his only selling point and he has no capacity to do any other thing. He is focusing only on the 20% Super rich that have stolen Nigeria's wealth and neglecting the remaining 80% of the hard working Nigerians that have school fees to pay, salaries to pay or earn, food to eat, rent to pay, medical bills, difficulty of importation of goods, scarcity of the dollar and a host of things affecting us.

He simply is bereft of ideas on how to move Nigeria forward other than the disciplinarian, tough talking and barking out orders style of leadership he was trained with and expects Nigerians to follow. Even as a self imposed petroleum Minister, he has proven to be very bad at the job and a complete disaster so what else is he good for?

1. What is Buhari's economic plan for Nigerians

2. What is Buhari's Educational Plan for Nigeria

3. What is Buhari's plan to the unemployed youths other than the fake 5k promise

5. I have already seen his plan for the Light and Oil sector and it has been a Calamity so far. No need to flog a dead horse

6. What is his plan for construction, transportation, health and infrastructure for Nigeria?

Thanks, Lawyer, for this eye-opening thread. My bitter experience is with GOSGRA. They came up with their fraudulent Easter promo and I made an outright payment of N560 for a plot of land somewhere in Ikorodu. Upon request for the promised ''immediate allocation'', the agent started speaking grammar, complaining about certain constraints that would not enable them allocate just yet so I slowed down for them. Around July I made some noise and wrote for refund, only for them to reply me that the process would take up to six months and then they would deduct 20% processing and 10% agency fees from the money that was paid to them 7 months ago. Allocate land, they are not allocating. See me see trouble o!!!
I am seriously warming up for a showdown with them. I sure will come back to update you.

It was not a forum to discuss proposals on how to move forward. That can be found in the Ekweremadu Report reviewing what went wrong in the last election for Pdp and proposals on how to move the party forward. It was a day for PDP faithfuls to come together after the last elections and pledge their solidarity to the party to work towards its success in the next election. The PDP Convention holds next year and new NWC would come in to move the party forward. Today wasnt a day for speeches or frank discussions. It was a day to make APC know PDP is still alive and would provide stiff opposition. It was a day to encourage the youths to become part of PDP and help shape the party's policies.

I am a staunch PDP supporter but i would disappoint my PDP friends and show my allegiance and support for Ambode for now because of the following reasons:

1. Since he became the Governor of Lagos state, he has behaved in a very respectable and responsible way that is completely alien to the APC manual of how to be a Governor. He hasn't accused anyone of stealing money, told lies, abuse political opponents or engage in frivolous Propaganda to push his agenda to the detriment of the good people of Lagos State.

2. When i see horrible APC Governors such as controversial liars like El Rufai or Fashola that is all Propaganda but less action or Oshimole that is extremely garrulous and misinforms people or Okorocha the billboard loving disgrace to his Kinsmen and compare Ambode to this lot, then you know Ambode is a saint in the midst of the no good Governors IN TERMS OF CIVILTY AND RESPECT to his fellow humans.

3. When you hear him talk he is more concerned about fostering Unity among all Nigerians living in Lagos irrespective of their tribe unlike Fashola that tried to Deport Igbos out of Lagos.

4. Ambode won my respect when he helped expose Fashola as a Fraud through the release of Fashola's expenditures in the last 4 years. He kept quiet through out the whole issue and did not come to the aid of Fashola. He allowed Nigerians assess Fashola personally and see all the financial irregularities of Fashola ranging from the most expensive website ever down to drilling 2 boreholes for N139Million. Naturally as Fashola's successor he was suppose to cover Fashola's financial atrocities and attack his political opponents daily but he has ignored doing all those irritating things APC Governors are synonymous for and chose to face his work quietly.

5. He cancelled all the fraudulent C of Os Fashola gave his croonies illegally in choice areas in Lagos such as Lekki Scheme 1 and returned the C of Os back to its rightful owners. He did not hide this criminal act from the Public and made the whole world know how dubious and hypocritical Fashola was.

6. He is the only APC governor that has cut ties from his predecessor and wants to chart his own course. He looks friendly and amiable and so far so good he is fulfilling his promises.

7. When Lagos had the traffic challenges in the last 2 months he promised to fix majority of the potholes and ease traffic. For 2 months my journey from the Lagos Mainland to the Island took 4 to 5 hours. This week i have spent less than 1hour because he has fixed the potholes and eased traffic in congested places.

8. Most importantly he is a career civil servant so he knows most of the issues plaguing Lagos and the Alausa criminals that want to take Lagos backwards

9. He doesn't engage in senseless propaganda like Fashola that would use N10Million to Plant Flowers and use N100Million to make noise about the flowers. He is very calm and open to criticisms without attacking his opponents in a derogatory way.

10. Finally i have noticed most of his critics are APC/Fashola Sympathizers. They dislike him because he exposed their Poster boy Fashola as a Fraud and to them that's an Unforgivable Sin and has stopped the supply of free PR Money to online APC cashtivists to Abuse political opponents

When he was dancing and making fun of PDP in a PDP dominated state, he didn't think of the day when he would have to lobby the same people he has abused, mocked and betrayed in exchange for a minsterial post.

In fact PMB has not done well for the people of Rivers state by nominating Amaechi as a Minister. He knows the bad blood festering between Wike and Amaechi and he still went ahead to nominate Amaechi when he knows quite well both of them would battle for the soul of Rivers to the detriment of the people of Rivers because they would be so consumed with winning the popularity war and it would distract them from governing Rivers properly both from Federal and state level.

Rivers people should fight to make sure Amaechi doesn't succeed in being a minister to avoid this war between these 2 men unless I fear serious repercussions and chaos that could bring Rivers state to its knees.

I have no problem with any of the ministerial portfolios to be given to in coming ministers except Lai Mohammed as the Minister of Information and communication. This man is a born liar, fibber, deceiver, fabricator, equivocator, fabulist, false story teller, prevaricator and propagandist and such a sensitive ministry should be in the hands of someone who is calm, fair and people can trust with disseminating information. Lai has never played fair, lies a lot, throws about dangerous speculations and rumors to cause sensationalism amongst Nigerians and is very combative.

A minister of Information is for all Nigerians and not an APC publicity arm. The number of lies that would be churned out per hour with Lai Mohammed, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu in charge would make Joseph Goebbels who was Hitler's Minister of Propaganda jealous and wish he could assemble such a propagandist team in such a short time. If this list is to be believed and Lai Mohammed is in charge, they should just change the name of the ministry of Information to the Ministry of Lies and Propaganda and I would be comfortable with it.

Too many lies and propaganda in one 7 page epistle to digest especially coming from a man who once denied Buhari didn't make any promise to feed children or pay 5k to the unemployed youths until PDP screamed and pointed out his lies with evidence before he accepted it. Or should you believe a man who flat out lied that the UN summit of Boko Haram that Buhari missed wasn't official until the UN itself came out to debunk Garba Shehu's lies.

This is the same Garba Shehu telling the whole world that We should be grateful Buhari wants to be Petroleum Minister but failed to point out that Section 138 of the 1999 constitution expressly disqualifies the president from Holding any other job

" The President shall not, during his tenure of office, hold any other executive office or paid employment in any capacity whatsoever".

The fact a former dictator Obj got away with it 6 years ago does not make it legal and it's unjustifiable. Has he told us whether the President would present himself for confirmation too or come and defend himself and the petroleum ministry through legislative summons when called upon? Garba should stop Taking Nigerians for granted with his obtuse statements.

Besides what crash course in opposition does APC want to teach PDP? The evil, vile and vengeful wild accusations, propaganda and lies they spew everyday to mock and insult people with rude gifs and memes to fan the embers of hate so that youths would destroy themselves? No thank you. We are not ready to raise False alarms or tweet sensational lies from the stables of El Rufai, Lai Mohammed, Ogbenidipo, Gbenga gold and Omojuwa to stoke up the interest of Ignorant people to a use, curse, swear and pollute the entity.

Talking about Buhari joking, what kind of stupid joke involves insulting he whole South South and South East as the 5% who did not vote for him or calling his future ministers distractions and Noise makers? Even a 6 year old kid would find nothing funny in that and his definition of him being a humorist is poor attempt at covering up his numerous gaffs in 4 months enough to make make Patience Jonathan cringe. He should shove his dry jokes up his 250 cows and start thinking of being A state man to bring the country together instead of polarizing the nation further.

Meanwhile who remembers during the election this horrible paper El Rufai and his minions were circulating. Is this the type of crash course opposition he wants us to learn?

El Rufai is just an embarrassment to right thinking politicians. He used falsehood and lies to castigate Jonathan's government despite the fact that it was the same GEJ that gave him an easy passage back home when he was on Exile because Yaradua's Administration was probing him for corruption and his evil misdeeds when he was FTC Minister. At every given time he insulted, blagged, twitted lies and pushed for a Northern Agenda but GEJ ignored him till APC won. Now they have won, he became a Governor of Kaduna state and is supposed to act as a state man but he won't stop. He has forgotten Elections are over but his bitterness and vengeful lifestyle won't give him the opportunity to Govern, rather he would prefer to continue his lies and propaganda games forever.

What does he stand to gain from being vengeful? The worst part is that he has empowered, trained and transferred this wicked and malicious propaganda to a handful of hate so students like Ayourb, omojuwa, Gbenga gold etc to continue dividing the youths for no just cause. Look at almost all the governors or Northern politicians who castigated Jonathan and PDP before the election such as Tambuwal, Masari, Tanko Bello, Shettima, Dankwambo etc, They have all decided to become statemen and focus on their jobs to make Nigeria great irrespective of party but El Rufai loves to be the the mischievous one fanning the embers of hate, accusations, tribalism and evil propaganda until he gets his desired dream to be the president of Nigeria. And just like a scared little girl, when the wahala comes due to his hate sermons and lies, he would run away on exile again while the youths rip themselves to shred because of this stupid man.

Can you remember when El Rufai was circulating this pamphlet around saying this was GEJ's agenda before the elections? Has the slimy weasel apologized for this when GEJ made it easy for him to win an election without bloodshed?
