Buhari congratulates ex-Agric minister, Adesina, on world food prize .

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said Nigeria remains proud of its former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, for winning the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate.

Adesina, who is the President of the African Development Bank, is being presented the $250,000 prize and Laureate sculpture at a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol, United States.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President’s congratulatory message was contained in a video message to the former minister.

The statement quoted Buhari as saying, “I received with delight the cheery news of your award as 2017 World Food Prize Laureate. Certainly, this did not come to me and many Nigerians as a surprise, given your antecedents and contributions to the development of agriculture across the African continent.

“We are very proud of you.

“According to the World Food Prize Foundation, you won the prize for driving change in African agriculture for over 25 years and improving food security for millions across the continent. Your choice as the winner of the World Food Prize is a clear recognition and appreciation of your long-standing contributions, reflected in your several roles and activities which promote social economic development.

“By dint of hard work, persistence, diligent efforts and God’s sufficient grace, you have risen above many limitations to emerge as a notable figure and a true champion. Your life story mirrors the resilience of the African spirit and doggedness for which Nigerians are well known.

The President of Nigeria Football Federation, Mr Amaju Pinnick, says Nigeria can lift the 2018 World Cup in Russia in the light of the preparations the association is putting in place.

Pinnick expressed the optimism this during the official opening of the Federation’s Annual General Assembly in Jos on Thursday.

The NFF president said that the country was well positioned now after it had overcome the challenges that bedevilled the nation’s football, particularly the previous year.

“Our highest achievement is the qualification for the World Cup. Secondly, the preparations for world cup have commenced in earnest as compared to the previous years.

“With the kind of preparations we are putting in place, I think we can win the World Cup,” he said.

On the financial aspect, Pinnick said that NFF had been given a clean bill of health, according to the report he received the previous night.

The federation’s president commended the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Solomon Dalung, for his unflinching support to the football house.

According to him, the minister makes sure that the federation meets all its needs during the Super Eagles’ qualification for the world cup.

He said Dalung’s support also made the nation’s early qualification possible, with the Algeria’s match being a mere formality.

Declaring the Assembly open, Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau thanked NFF for choosing the state for the event in spite the recent violent incidents caused by unidentified gunmen.

Lalong, who was represented by the state Commissioner of Sports, Mr Danladi Mann, commended the football house’s efforts at improving the administration of the nation’s football.

The governor expressed the hope that Plateau United, the reigning champion of Nigeria Professional Football League, would win the CAF Champions League in its first participation in the tournament.

In his remarks, Mr Shehu Dikko, 2nd Vice-President of NFF said that sponsorship for the nation’s football had improved remarkably.

He said that more sponsors were willing to partner with NFF and traced the development to what he said the body was doing in the football administration.

It appears like the reports of vaccination of school children against monkeypox virus in the eastern part of the country - have done more harm than good in the nation following pandemonium in Maiduguri, Borno state capital. According to multiple reports, school activities were cut short earlier today after reports filtered into town that students were being injected with vaccines by a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Parents immediately stormed the schools and withdrew their children as panic spread from one school to the other.

According to reports, the parents are refusing their children/wards to be vaccinated by anyone over fear of the dreaded monkeypox virus.

These two quotes, in a sense, sum up the political blues emanating from South East Nigeria.

Nigeria is such a fascinating place and there is no other place in the country where you find such beguiling political nuances than in the South East, alot of which sprang to life just after the declaration of the results of the last general elections.

It was a chain reaction initiated by the loss of their preferred contestant, Goodluck Jonathan, and catalysed by their collective hatred for the person, tribe and religion of the victor, President Buhari, and those they perceive were associated with his victory namely Bola Ahmed Tinubu in particular, and the South West in general.

No sooner did he take the oath of office than they swarmed him with a torrent of unprintable insults and at best, criticisms, none of which came anywhere close to constructive. They jettisoned all courtesy typical of normal human engagements and delved right into a fray they created in a most sordid manner.

These folks who were having such a fantastic ride with President Jonathan for over five years and literally asked anyone who dared to grumble about being left out or shortchanged to "stick it up their assses" suddenly remembered they've been "marginalised" since the Big Bang!

They found an enthusiastic ally in a sly character called Fani Kayode and he has been doing such a plumb job making sure they fortify their hate for the aforementioned people, he himself a very bitter loser. Most surprisingly, this was the same man whose head they called for just a couple of years earlier for criticising their conduct in Nigerian politicospare.

It is this unbridled hate and anger some opportunistic layabout in London saw and took advantage of, exploiting it to the fullest. Alas, IPOB was born!

This brings me back to both my opening quotes.

Now, if not for reason of sheer hatred, how in God's gracious name did a people who pride themselves as some of the most educated and enlightened people in the continent allow a character that,

1. Has no known educational exploits,

2. Has no known literary exploits,

3. Has no leadership experience,

4. Has no known sustainable means of livelihood...

take on such gargantuan responsibility as secession?

Upon this premise, the second quote is MOST APPROPRIATE.

Nnamdi Kanu would have remained the unknown and insignificant spec in the universe he was had the "losers" not bore such morbid hatred for their supposed enemy.

Some people argue the president lit the torch of their anger by the "5%" comment. Pray tell, would this be the first time someone made such comment? Didn't Jonathan make similar comment when he was the President? The "igbos are the backbone of my administration" comment, remember that? How many people from the North or South West huffed and puffed about it despite its impropriety?

Now, someone tell me, exactly what advantage has IPOB conferred on the South East since the beginning of their belligerent campaign?

Have more projects gone to the South East?

Have more FDI gone to the region?

Have their governors become more alive to their responsibilities?

Have more appointments been given them?

Do Nigerians love them more?

IPOB has but one agenda alone, chip away at the progress Ndigbo have made over the years in every endeavor they've embarked on individually and collectively.

When I look at what these guys are doing to their brothers, i shudder in disbelief.

Take the small town of Makurdi for instance. The most popular "supermarkets", D. O. Brothers, Togos and Nobis, are owned by Igbos. They own the biggest shopping plazas, Ndupet, Merit, O. G. Winners, Tonimas, etc. They are the biggest wholesale distributors of beverages (OFICON). Etc.

I can only imagine what's going on in such big cities as Kanu, Kaduna, Lagos, Abuja, etc.

What strategy of relocation does IPOB have for these people.

You know what they say about "a man who's got nothing to lose"... A most dangerous man. With no known means of livelihood or investments anywhere, Nnamdi Kanu fits the bill for such a character.

Cornered, bruised and humiliated, they've decided inflammable propaganda is the best way to go. The outbreak of Monkey Pox and the military medical outreach presented them with the opportunity to take another pound of flesh out of "their people" (I put it this way because I believe Neither the president nor the soldiers lost a thing from the events of the last one week, rather, school children did).

But for this silly hoax, one would have thought these people who profess to be very educated and enlightened didn't know we have professional doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, etc, in the military!!

How sad.

How an enlightened people could believe a government intent on depopulating them would go about doing so under the full glare of the public using such overt means as injection beats me. More disturbing is the fact their leaders have chosen to keep mum over it.

Let it be known to all who care to listen, the Federal Government of Nigeria won't be blackmailed into treating any particular group of Nigerians "differently".

Maya Angelou once said "Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet." That held true then, it holds true now, and it will for centuries to come!

Just like Boko Haram, IPOB has succeeded in bullying into silence moderate and sensible Igbos, but just like my friend on facebook, Gozicon Munachi, it is time for these moderate elements to grow some balls, step up to the medium and salvage what is left of the political and moral patrimony of Ndigbo. Failure to do this would have very far reaching self inflicted negative consequences.

The FFKs of this world would hardly make any difference should things deteriorate any further even though they play very critical role in their escalation. Folks like him have the noose around their necks already, and would do whatever it takes to make sure that noose comes off, it doesn't matter how many lives they sacrifice in the process, just as long as it isn't their family members'.

Even the all knowing and "omnipotent" Ohamadike was nowhere to be found when shiit hit the fan. He still isn't!

This day, I extend a hand of friendship to my Igbo brothers. We may disagree on a whole lot of issues, but we could always do so with mutual respect and courtesy. I hardly agree with whatever folks like Truckpusher or Tonyebarcanista say, but we respect some unwritten rules of engagement. I believe we can at well do the same.

Let us make the most of the union while it lasts. The only people that stand to benefit from the chaos that might ensue from our constant bloodbaths are the elites. If you ask me, they represent our common adversaries irrespective of their tribe, political inclination and religion.

Governor Rochas Okorocha has said he erected a huge statue in honour of South African president, Jacob Zuma, to attract investment to Imo state.

the governor said Zuma’s visit to Imo state was to sign a memorandum of understanding between Jacob Zuma education foundation and Rochas foundation college of Africa.

He said the South African president also met with businessmen at the Ikemba Ojukwu centre, including Leo Stan Ekeh of Zinox Computers, Pascal Dozie of Diamond Bank, chairman of Innoson Motors, and a host of others. Okorocha said his administration decided to honour Jacob Zuma by conferring on him a merit award and erected a statue to encourage the South African president to do more and appreciate him for visiting the state.

The Imo state government blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the controversy that has surrounded the honour of Zuma. The statement said: “If it was in the days of PDP, Schools and Markets would have been shot down. And roads closed because President Zuma was coming. But none of such things was done because Rochas and his government have human face.

The PDP for the 12 years they held sway never attracted any meaningful visitor to the State except PDP NEC members who were coming to loot the State." The government said Rochas owes no apology for erecting the statue, adding that if erecting statues will develop imo state then the government will have no option than to erect as many of such structures as possible.

"And in case these “Galatians” do not know, if all we need to do to attract good things or investments to Imo is erecting statues, then, we have no option than to erect as many of such structures as possible. We owe no one apology. Rochas made a promise to open the doors of Imo to the rest of the world, for good and he is doing that and we cannot be deterred by these enemies of our people," the government said.

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, condemned a Twitter user, Adamu Hayatu, who attacked him for sympathizing with victims of a recent tanker explosion in Abia state and accused him of angling to be the supreme leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB).

The Turakin Adamawa had taken to Twitter to mourn the victims of the horrible accident, stating; "I read about the tanker that fell in Ehere, outside Aba with a heavy heart. I pray the children and families are ok."

This message didn't augur well with Hayatu who fired the former VP saying that a similar incident happened in Northern area called Tafa which Atiku did not comment on.

He tweeted; "Tafa too last week, seems you want to deputize for Supreme Leader in Biafra alone."

Atiku fired back stating; "This is a very shameful tweet, my young friend. Children were hurt in that accident. Our only response should be sympathy."

The Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has accused governor Nyesom Wike of being in support of the activities of the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB)group.

The party's statement is coming shortly after the vaccine scare alarm raised by the state commissioner for information, Emmanuel Okah. They alleged that the move was part of a calculated strategy by the Wike administration to humiliate and demoralize the Nigerian Army, SARS and other security agencies ahead of the 2019 general elections.Below is a press statement from the party made available to PoliticsNGR;

"The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter, is utterly dismayed that emerging facts being made available to the party indicate that the Nigerian Army vaccine scare that was promoted on radio and social media earlier today (Tuesday) by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Barr. Emma Okah, is part of a well-articulated strategy by the Gov. Wike-led Rivers State Government to ridicule, humiliate, intimidate and demoralise the Nigerian Army, SARS and other security agencies ahead of the 2019 elections.

The APC finds it appalling that the Rivers State Government led by Gov. Nyesom Wike would concoct outright lies and falsehood just to score cheap political points by denigrating our respected men and women of the uniformed and other security services who place their lives on the line every other day to keep Nigerians safe. The fact is that the Army has made a press release re-stating that it was not conducting any medical outreach in the Niger Delta generally and Port Harcourt particularly. Independent investigations also revealed that the Nigerian Army troops were nowhere close to any school in Rivers State to carry out any medical programme of any sort despite the false alarm activated by the Rivers State Government.

“The APC insists that Gov. Nyesom Wike and the PDP in Rivers State must take responsibility for any untoward outcome that may result from the needless panic mode they have forced innocent people and residents of Rivers State into today. They must accept responsibility for the politically-motivated fake news they activated in the State today and the attendant confusion it has caused law-abiding citizens.

We call on the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to recognise the kind of personae the governor represents and the type of government he runs. We urge our respected men and women of the security services to rise above the antics of Gov. Wike and his government officials.

Particularly, the Army and other agencies should realise that the dance the Rivers State Government performed today by creating a hoax to discredit the Nigerian Army is a clear manifestation of the frustration that the governor and his government have inflicted on themselves since their major ally (Indigenous People of Biafra – IPOB) was proscribed. They have since been feeling vulnerable, disorientated and very bitter especially at the Army. The unnecessary animosity by the Wike government towards the Army does not represent the feelings of well-meaning Rivers people.

We reassure anxious Nigerians who reside in other parts of the country especially the North that all is calm and no attacks on any group has resulted from the irresponsible false alarm raised by the Rivers State Government. This is important to quell the anxious calls we have been receiving since this morning against the backdrop of the recent ugly incident in a part of the State."
