The FUTA students achieved this feat by coming tops at the 8th National Mathematics Competition for University Students (2016 NAMCUS) in Nigeria which took place in Abuja under the aegis of the National Mathematical Centre. They came first from a pool of twenty-four competing Universities with 96 students which earned them a place in the international competition The FUTA Team from its department of mathematics comprised Michael Omolaja, a 500 level student who clinched a gold medal and the title of Best Student Mathematician across Nigerian Universities, Mary Akinade and Segun Ofe, both 500 level students who won silver medals and Desmond Dike, a 300 level student who picked a bronze medal .Dr. Babatope Omolofe and Mr. Ayodeji Afolabi, lecturers in the Department supervised the team. The International Competition would consist of two sessions of five hours each with problems from the field of Algebra, Real and Complex Analysis, Geometry and Combinatorics with about 80 countries participating. NAMCUS, which is an annual event initiated by the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Abuja to prepare Nigerian students for the annual International Mathematics Competition for students of higher institutions across the country. The 2016 edition consisted of two papers of six questions drawn from a pool on Abstracts, Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis and Differential Equations with forty-eight students emerging as medal winners. Dr Babatope Omolofe, one of the team leaders particularly expressed gratitude to God for the placement of the team. He said the team owed it to God as he saw total commitment to God as their winning ticket. Mr. Ayodeji Afolabi, the other team leader added that the team’s victory showed the stuff FUTA is made off and increases the University’s ranking among its peers. He was hopeful that the team would return with medals from the international competition as he opined that the team has what it takes to hold its own on the global platform. Disclosing the secret to success, Michael Omolaja, the gold medalist said the team depended on God and worked together to distinguish itself. Omolaja who has a record of tutoring students at Masters and PhD levels is a Fluid Numerical and Complex Analysis major in the making with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.69 and several published journal papers to his credit. Mary Akinade, the female on the team and one of the silver medalists explained that Mathematics is not as difficult as people think. She emphasized that the successful study of Mathematics only demands interest, support, persistent practice and confidence. She has a CGPA of 4.68. According to Segun Ofe who is a second time participant (2015) and the second silver medalist, “it is a privilege to represent Nigeria and we are going to put in our best to make the most of the privilege”. His CGPA is 4.59.The bronze medalist, Desmond Dike who has CGPA of 4.68 said the team selection was a good compliment and that he particularly learnt from team mates in order to give his best. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola while congratulating the team assured the members of total support as they prepare to fly the flag of FUTA and Nigeria in Bulgaria. GEJ made a statement that he loose the 2015 election because he is not from the North ! My question is must the north continue to rule? Why can't federal character commission be involve in party selection of candidate. |
989900:Yes. The transaction can be traced on the statement of account. It will definitly show that amount, date, and the transaction details. That is the only evidence. |
chukwudi44:Bro, Nigerian politician are ready to do anything to cover up their secret. I know the guys involve. They where bribe by Saraki's PA in 2010 to burn the batch room and believe me, I will never expose then. If you ever work as a core marketer in any Nigerian bank, you won't trust any politician. |
Fire actuually destrol some documents at GTbank GRA ilorin few years ago. I'm 100 percent sure of this because I was a staff there then. All the transaction instrument was burnt overnight. |
Am currently on a proposal to dis prove the Avogadro's law. Avogadro's law state that "equal volume of all gases at the same temperature and pressure contain the same number of mollecules". I totally dissagree with that. Theoretically, For a gas A and a gas B to have the same volume doesn't mean they will have the same mass and having different mass means they will maintain the volume and have different number of mollecules. |
I love St Francis catholic secondary school, Ikotun Lagos. |

All this account were open at Gtb bank unity road, Ilorin. A lot of fraudulent account have been open in that branch. I think the bank should shut it down. |
What is the change we are now talking about? This is even worst than the previous administration. |
Honestly am tired of this country. I wish the international human right activist could know all what is happening in this country. |

Wait oo. Does Quran support forceful and underage marriage? I know a similar case like this too in my street. Why are muslims doing this? Even if the religion encourage it, common sense should tell them that it is wrong. |
luvinhubby:Which academic values did you expect a typical fulani man to add to his value? To all the fulanis on nairaland, don't take it as an insult, rather take it as a challenge. |
We need God intervention in this country. Both APC and PDP are the same.politicians can easily swap within the parties within a day, *all politicians are liers* none of them is honest except if we will be deceiving ourself. They are just deceiving us, playing us up and down like football.

If you said bank contract staff is a modern slavery you are right because I use to work with a bank (gtb) as a contract staff for 6 years. You will work while some people will benefit from your labour. No access to loan and some other benefit. Your boss will transfer his/her own pressure on you , insult you in the public even when you are right, you wil be sack even without given a letter or receiving an e mail, all the branch full staff will treat you like their servant because you're the last in the ranking, no promotion or recomendation, you will be the one directlly expose to customers, your leave will be change by your boss without following due process, after closing for the day, your lazy boss will still transfer his/her own job function to you forcefully, you will hardly eat in a day, you will be responsibly for any issues in the bank even if it does not concerns you , as a lady you will be intimidated by your superior male boss, you will be ask to attend meeting out of office without allowance using your own salary for transport, medical allowance will be deducted from your salary and you will be ask to pay when you get to the hospital you requested, no benefit from bank's profit sharing, your direct boss will put all blame on you in the name of promotion and many more. I pray our legislature will look into this and ammend bank contract staffing laws. |
