BusinessLabour To Paralyse Operations In 3 Banks •urges Customers To Make Withdrawals by leMuhito(op): 3:32pm On Jan 07, 2011
The two labour unions in the banking sector; Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) and National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), have called on customers of Unity Bank Plc, Intercontinental Bank Plc and Oceanic Bank International, to make mass withdrawals as the unions’ leadership have perfected strategies to paralyse business activities in the banks from next Wednesday over the illegal mass sack of workers by the management of these banks.

The unions, vowed to fight for their rights since some management teams in the nation’s finance industry were above the laws of the land. They urged customers of the said banks to make enough withdrawals, as the battle would be fight to the finish which might take a long time.

ASSBIFI’s National President, Comrade Sunday Olusoji Salako, made the declaration at a world press conference at the association’s secretariat in Lagos, on Thursday.

He said “It is with deep pain that when the whole of humanity were exchanging fraternal, goodwill messages the Intercontinental Bank and Oceanic Bank International Plc, were unleashing terror-like assaults on the rights of employees and welcoming them to the New Year with hopelessness. Before the end of the year, 97 workers were illegally rationalised in Oceanic Bank International, while 200 workers, our members, were also secretly rationalised in Intercontinental Bank respectively.”

“Specifically, the Unity Bank management distributed letters of disengagement of services to 36 of our members on 16th and 17th December, 2010 and additional list of workers to be disengaged is being compiled. Meanwhile, this same bank had not yet negotiated or paid what is required by law and our Industry-wide Collective Agreement to the 230 staff that were disengaged in December, 2009,” he added.

FamilyHow To Negotiate A Reasonable Bride-price by leMuhito(op): 1:30pm On Apr 04, 2010
TODAY, as in Bible times, some cultures require that a bride-price be paid before a man can marry a woman. "I am willing to serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter," said Jacob to his future father-in-law, Laban. (Genesis 29:18) Because of Jacob's love for Rachel, he offered a high price—the equivalent of seven years' wages! Laban accepted the offer but tricked Jacob into first marrying his older daughter, Leah. Laban's subsequent dealings with Jacob continued to be devious. (Genesis 31:41) The emphasis that Laban placed on material gain caused his daughters to lose respect for him. "Are we not really considered as foreigners to him since he has sold us, so that he keeps eating continually even from the money given for us?" they asked.

Autos10 Most Significant Rides At Geneva by leMuhito(op): 2:01pm On Mar 09, 2010
The Geneva Motor Show is in full swing once again, and as you might expect, green technology is dominating displays from nearly every automaker in attendance. But the so-called eco-friendly wares on display here in Switzerland are unlike what we've seen on the auto-show circuit so far this year. Instead of a bevy of vaporware concepts and commuter cars with as much character as a bowl of dry bran flakes, Europe's best are proving that responsibility can also be fun and luxurious. From Ferrari's gas-electric supercar to Lexus' new hybrid hatchback to Porsche's new battery-powered SUV, examples of smartly engineered and stylishly designed machines are everywhere. Here are our choices for the most significant cars at the show — the sheet metal you absolutely need to know about.

Nairaland GeneralIf You Had A Chance, What Would You Like To Ask God? by leMuhito(op): 7:24pm On Mar 02, 2010
PEOPLE around the earth have serious questions about life. Do you?

Many have presented their questions to religious instructors but have not received satisfying answers. Others have pondered these questions privately. Some have prayed for direction. Is it really possible for you to get answers from God about matters that perplex you? Among the questions that many have said they would like to ask God are these.

EventsTaking Steps To Make The New Year Debt-free by leMuhito(op): 9:53am On Dec 20, 2009
With less than two weeks for the year to go, there is one of two lots that must be characterising some people‘s lives at this time: either being bothered by some unpaid debt burden or getting preoccupied with the prospect of some in the approaching New Year. Of course, the probability of getting into debt in the New Year is very high for certain reasons. The pervasive festive mood is a ready trip to avoidable debts, especially for those who cannot operate a disciplined budget. Besides, the early payment of salaries by companies and other employers is a potential threat to an uneventful financial life in the early days of January, thereby increasing their chances of borrowing to survive, more www.360naija.com/index.php?topic=334.0
Jobs/VacanciesLost Your Job? You Can Be Your Own Boss by leMuhito(op): 2:05pm On Dec 16, 2009
Building a business from the scratch can be frustrating. But with persistence and determination, great results can be achieved. Nnaemeka Meribe writes

Okey Mbonu always desired a bank job. And so when he got an appointment with the defunct Fountain Trust Bank in 2005, he celebrated. His happiness knew no bounds, as he had got his dream job. He was posted to the bank’s outlet at the United States consulate in Lagos where he was more of a glorified teller. Though humdrum, he tried to enjoy every aspect of the job.

With the consolidation in the banking sector that year, Fountain Trust Bank later merged with other banks and became Spring Bank. Soon after, the new bank did some internal reorganisations and Mbonu was redeployed to the much-dreaded marketing department.

He was given targets. Though he met them, he couldn’t bear the pressure and in late 2007, he resigned and left for Bank PHB. At Bank PHB, nothing changed. He was still given targets and the pressure did not abate. In mid 2008 he moved again, this time, to Oceanic Bank, Continue Reading www.360naija.com/index.php?topic=253.0
Jobs/VacanciesWhy Small Businesses Fail And How You Can Guard Against Them by leMuhito(op): 2:04pm On Dec 16, 2009
It is no longer news that 99 per cent of all new business ventures started all over the world fail in the first 10 years. Now since the dream of every entrepreneur is to build a successful business, here are ten tactfully highlighted major reasons why small businesses fail and how you can bulletproof your business against them.

Lack of managerial and entrepreneurial skill:

When a small business owner lacks the managerial skill required to drive the business to greater heights, that business is bound to fail. An entrepreneur that wants to succeed must be able to effectively handle the employees, cash flow, production line and so on, or better still, the business owner must be able to hire a good manager to run the business. Lack of entrepreneurial skill is a very common reason why small businesses fail. When an entrepreneur lacks the necessary skills such as leadership skill, cash flow management, persistence and self confidence, such an entrepreneur is bound to fail. An entrepreneur is the head and pilot of the business. Consider an airplane being flown by an inexperienced young pilot, the outcome can be better imagined, Continue Reading www.360naija.com/index.php?topic=254.0

Christianity EtcChristmas Customs Are They Christian? by leMuhito(op): 12:21pm On Dec 15, 2009
THE Christmas season is here. What does that mean to you, your family, and your associates? Is it a spiritual occasion, or is it only a festive and merry period? Is it a time to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ or not to be concerned about Christian norms?

In considering those questions, bear in mind that Christmas traditions may differ according to where you live. For instance, in Mexico and other Latin-American countries, even the name is different. One encyclopedia points out that the English name Christmas "is derived from the medieval Christes Masse, the Mass of Christ." However, La Navidad, or the Nativity, as it is called in these Latin-American lands, refers to the nativity, or birth, of Christ. Take a moment to consider some details from Mexico. This may help you to shape your own opinion about this holiday season.

FoodIs Your Food Safe? by leMuhito(op): 8:59pm On Dec 14, 2009
How Safe Is Your Food?

DO YOU eat three meals a day? If so, by the time you are 70 years old, you will have consumed over 75,000 meals. For a typical European, that will mean eating—among other things—some 10,000 eggs, 5,000 loaves of bread, 100 sacks of potatoes, 6 sides of beef, and 2 sheep. Does all that eating amount to a chore? Far from it! How we relish hearing such expressions as "enjoy your meal" or "guten Appetit" or "bon appétit"! The head of a cooking school went so far as to say: "Food is the essence of life."---www.360naija.com/index.php?topic=209.msg214#msg214
RomanceWhy Does Love Fade? by leMuhito(op): 4:41pm On Dec 14, 2009
"It seems much easier to fall into love than to stay in love."—Dr. Karen Kayser.

The proliferation of loveless marriages is perhaps not surprising. Marriage is a complex human relationship, and many enter it with little preparation. "We are required to demonstrate some proficiency when obtaining a driver's license," observes Dr. Dean S. Edell, "but marriage licenses can be had for a signature."
