Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language and the Arduino Development Environment. Arduino projects can be stand-alone, or they can communicate with software running on a computer.
There are plenty of other microcontrollers available. So you may be asking, why choose the Arduino? Arduino really simplifies the process of building projects on a microcontroller making it a great platform for amateurs. You can easily start working on one with no previous electronics experience.
In addition to Arduino’s simplicity, it is also inexpensive, cross-platform and open source. The Arduino is based on Atmel’s ATMEGA328 and ATMEGA168 microcontrollers.
Arduino Software
Software programs, called sketches, are created on a computer using the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE). The IDE enables you to write and edit code and convert this code into instructions that Arduino hardware understands. The IDE also transfers those instructions to the Arduino board (a process called uploading).
The Arduino board is where the code you write is executed. The board can only control and respond to electricity, so specific components are attached to it to enable it to interact with the real world. These components can be sensors, which convert some aspect of the physical world to electricity so that the board can sense it, or actuators, which get electricity from the board and convert it into something that changes the world. Examples of sensors include switches, accelerometers, and ultrasound distance sensors. Actuators are things like lights and LEDs, speakers, motors, and displays.
There have been a number of Arduino versions, all based on an 8-bit Atmel AVR reduced instruction set computer (RISC) microprocessor. The first board was based on the ATmega8 running at a clock speed of 16 MHz with 8 KB flash memory; later boards such as the Arduino NG plus and the Diecimila (Italian for 10,000) used the ATmega168 with 16 KB flash memory. The most recent Arduino versions, Duemilanove and Uno, use the ATmega328 with 32 KB flash memory and can switch automatically between USB and DC power. For projects requiring more I/O and memory, there’s the Arduino Mega1280 with 128 KB memory or the more recent Arduino Mega2560 with 256 KB memory. The boards have 14 digital pins, each of which can be set as either an input or output, and six analog inputs. In addition, six of the digital pins can be programmed to provide a pulse width modulation (PWM) analog output. A variety of communication protocols are available, including serial, serial peripheral interface bus (SPI), and I2C/ TWI. Included on each board as standard features are an in-circuit serial programming (ICSP) header and reset button.
Project 1: Creating a blinking LED wave
Let’s put some LEDs and resistors to work. In this project, we’ll use five LEDs to create a kind of wavelike light pattern.
The Hardware
Here’s what you’ll need to create this project:
>> Five LEDs >> Five 560W resistors >> One breadboard >> Various connecting wires >> Arduino and USB cable
We will connect the LEDs to digital pins 2 through 6 via the 560-ohm current-limiting resistors.
The Sketch
Now for our sketch. Enter this code into the IDE:
// Project 1 - Creating a Blinking LED Wave
void setup() { pinMode(2, OUTPUT); // LED 1 control pin is set up as an output pinMode(3, OUTPUT); // same for LED 2 to LED 5 pinMode(4, OUTPUT); pinMode(5, OUTPUT); pinMode(6, OUTPUT); } void loop() { digitalWrite(2, HIGH); // Turn LED 1 on delay(500); // wait half a second digitalWrite(2, LOW); // Turn LED 1 off digitalWrite(3, HIGH); // and repeat for LED 2 to 5 delay(500); digitalWrite(3, LOW); digitalWrite(4, HIGH); delay(500); digitalWrite(4, LOW); digitalWrite(5, HIGH); delay(500); digitalWrite(5, LOW); digitalWrite(6, HIGH); delay(500); digitalWrite(6, LOW); digitalWrite(5, HIGH); delay(500); digitalWrite(5, LOW); digitalWrite(4, HIGH); delay(500); digitalWrite(4, LOW); digitalWrite(3, HIGH); delay(500); digitalWrite(3, LOW); // the loop() will now loop around and start from the top again }
In void setup() the digital I/O pins are set to outputs, because we want them to send current to the LEDs on demand. We specify when to turn on each LED using the digitalWrite() function in the void loop() section of the sketch.
sorry for quoting the whole post. how much will it cost to create a unit of this, can it be made to run off batteries and can the number of LEDs be increased?
been following this thread for a while. would love to try my hand on designing and electronics but don't don't have the baseline knowledge and the time to study it. then i came across the video below. considering ordering for the cloudbit pack
search for this software "Find that Word" on google. can't recall the site i downloaded it from but it's wonderful in creating custom search word games
it's a great app that helps in blocking all those internet ads that hijack your browsing session. But the basic block list was made for specific websites outside Africa. Attached is my block list complied over the span of 5 months.download it, then go to the " your list" option of the app. Click on menu, select import list, navigate to the downloaded file and import it.
majekdom2: refining , and making use ... stop importation, we wont have anything like subsidy .... we can then export whatever is left.
I have really enjoyed the discussion so far. for once, intellectual minds are discussing an important issue without stupid political inputs.
In regards to stopping importation, I would like to share a post by MissMeiya
Discouraging imports is great for stimulating local economy: WHEN THE LOCAL PRODUCTION ACTUALLY EXISTS. For too many things in Nigeria, the consumption FAR EXCEEDS LOCAL PRODUCTION. The market actually depends on importation for SURVIVAL. You can't buy what doesn't exist. So what does this mean? People will continue to import because they HAVE to, even with the increased import taxes: • They will just pay the increased cost--defeating the purported goal of reducing imports • They will bribe someone--increased corruption • They will smuggle it in from neighboring countries--giving more money to other countries The last is the most likely outcome, as it is already happening.
case in point,; banning the importation of cars with no established manufacturing company capably of meeting half of the needs of the populace at any set point adequately.
for all those that use Chrome and Firefox, go to settings, app manager, click on Chrome or Firefox and check the total size of the app. Woe unto you if you use them on tecno
And I didn't need to contract a foreign company to give me a LINK TO THEIR OWN WEBSITE.
The issue of the QR code been a security check by the Governor of CBN does not good water. Anyone can create a QR code, the link is not a secure site. Wonder how much the contract was?
felibrain: The link I'm still seeing can't prove that FG owns the site or that the site is in anyway affiliated to the FG. Until this is established all the claims here remains baseless. We must be careful with what we say about our country please!!!
Fine. The FG does not own the site and the site is not affiliated with the FG. Who, then, allowed such a site to advertise on a legal tender that the FG mandated by law to circulate in Nigeria and why was such an error (misinformation) allowed to occur?
felibrain: WHAT IS THIS ONE SAYING? What prove do you have that the site you posted was created by the FG As a tech savy you claim to be, is it not rather disgraceful that you don't know that links that begin with sites.anything.soso shows that it's a free website hosted by Google (which any body can create and upload whatever he feels like Do you think if FG wanted a site they are too broke to pay for hosting? Please stop seeking unnecessary attention.
Guy, stop showing yourself. This is a picture of the new 100 naira note. Scan it yourself and ask who put the QRcode there.
Godwinsilas: But you should know that the site is not Administer/Moderated by Government, and as such the person in charge made that mistake and also it just an area view which the said stadium is not better of AI stadium in picture.
So why is the bar code on a legal tender, made and circulated by the Federal Government. Considering that anyone can get access to it, those pictures are copyrighted so they can be sued by those countries. And I may be wrong but a mistake was done on a centenary note, the cost of making, recalling and reprinting of the notes....
I have an issue with disappearing phone storage. Over the course of a week I realized that I was losing about 1MB a day. My phone would basically be dormant and I would still see my storage space dropping by this amount everyday. Cache cleaning didn't work. Later I realized that Android creates a bunch of log files in Data/ System/Dropbox that was responsible for the disappearing phone storage trick I've been seeing for a while now. I know now that Google has incorporated into Android as of the 2.2 iteration, a DropBox Manager that's responsible for logging all of the events that take place during the course of a running Android session. Everything from what took place at boot to force close details.
TO SOLVE THIS
The first thing I tried was changing the permissions on the "Data/System/Dropbox" directory and it worked. But I didn't use CHMOD and console command line to do it. I have a program called Root Explorer that allows me to permanently change the permissions on any file or folder I select. I set all of the offending folders to read only and the log files stopped being written to those folders. These are the directories I set to read only: 1. "Data/System/Dropbox" 2. "Data/System/UsageStats" 3. "Data/Tombstones" Since changing the permissions on these folders my phone storage has stopped dwindling out of control. No additional programming necessary.
Seems like any crash files and logcats all get dumped in the data / tombstone files, after more searching , one member with a Samsung moment had a tombstone file 200 mb.
FOR NON ROOTED PHONES
You can download connectbot from the market , for people with low storage space warnings
seems to me that something is harvesting info on your devices and sending them home.
Came across this while searching on it. Would be beneficial to those with tecno phones having "insufficient memory" issues.
/data/system/dropbox is not part of "DropBox" it is part of the Android OS DropBoxManager (not related at all to "DropBox". This puts data from application crashes and kernel logs and such in this log directory. I know the market uses this directory (See #4) as well, probably to report application crashes. You could probably remove the data in this directory, but DO NOT delete the directory and you may see logcat errors from parts of the OS/Apps looking for specific files in this directory. edit : I deleted everything from this folder and rebooted my device afterwards, I had no issues with any applications, and it actually freed up some space on the device.
I just got a couple of the new centenary note and noticed a QR code at the back. Scanned it and was directed to a website. I'm impressed with the info on the site.
Modern-day Nigeria came into being on January 1, 1914, with the formal amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates of the former British colony. Therefore January 1, this year marks 100 years of the Union. The Centenary celebration therefore gives us an opportunity to highlight our achievements as a nation, celebrate our dexterity, resilience as a people and determination to launch Nigeria into the next century with greater expectations. In line with this, the Central Bank of Nigeria has redesigned the ₦100 note to commemorate the attainment of this milestone.
The most famous liquid, after water, the popular, carbonated Coke actually started out as an alcoholic beverage.
Invented by Dr. John Stith Pemberton in 1885 as a means in which to calm his patients, the drink then known as Pemberton’s French Wine Coca was forced to change its alcoholic ingredient with the onset of Prohibition.
While the drink had been created as a means to deal with ailments like headaches, impotence and morphine addiction, the first sales of the beverage assured its early popularity and today it remains the most popular of carbonated beverages.
If you read the book "the Coke Machine", you would know that the original coca cola was made with cocaine in it. It was so wonderful that even the pope at that time blessed it. To this day, a certain extract from the cocaine plant is utilized in the making of coca cola and is labeled "extract number 5", extracted in New Jersey.
I accept your logic. Currently talking with some marketers about distribution; once that is established, the price would go down. Besides, I created it as a hobby.considering my main job is time consuming, it takes 4 days to create one.even at that price I have four orders I'm battling to finish before Christmas day and I hate disappointing anyone. Will eventually employ some hands to help but once logistics are in place the prices would fall. Please note that the lamps have different prices based on the design and sizes.
