A customer-centered "outside-in" perspective is a great way to rethink and redesign your business. It allows you to stay ahead of the competition and respond to changes. This approach will help you understand the evolving needs of your customers and come up with innovate ideas to serve their needs. However, by working from outside-in, you'll bring a new perspective to your business. You'll have different insights and experiences that will help you approach your marketing from a different angle. An outside-in approach will infuse your marketing strategies with fresh and unexpected ideas. It's common to get the tunnel vision, and sometimes this is unavoidable. It happens especially when we're very close to a project. You invest your time, emotions, and money in your business, and it becomes hard to see things clearly. The new perspective brings improvement. Break Out From Your Comfort Zone It's clear that if you want to build something great you have to break from your comfort zone, and an outside-in marketing perspective will definitely disrupt that comfort zone. Also, it's common to be having a differentiator that isn't setting you apart. However, breaking out of the comfort zone by adopting an outside perspective will help you see your company more clearly and you'll do everything possible to create a more effective strategy. |
3. Utilize social media. Depending on the type of business you own, you should choose a social media platform to market your services on. If you are a stylist, Instagram would be a great place to show off photos of how you made your clients look their best. A hairdresser could share photos and tips on the latest hairstyle they completed for one of their clients. If photos are not exactly your thing, you may want to utilize LinkedIn. If your audience is composed of professionals, this platform will allow you to make connections with them, and share your content in a way that makes you stand out to those who could use your services. Facebook is also a platform you can use to promote your business. With the ability to create groups, you could even build communities for those who engage with your business, allowing them to connect with others who love what your business stands for. Social media is free to use, but if you have the budget, you can always hire someone to setup and run your social media account for you. 4. Create an eBook. Company owners probably don't see themselves as authors; and the thought of writing a long and drawn out book probably puts a sour taste in their mouth. But there is a form of eBook that can actually help to grow your list of prospective customers. Have you ever seen a commercial, asking you to call a number to get their free eBook fo learn more about whatever it was that they were talking about on the commercial? Those books that people call to get are eBooks, and they are a form of a lead magnet. A lead magnet is something of value that you give away for free in exchange for a name, email address, or some other form of contact information. You can then use the information that you collect to build a list of people who are interested in the information that you have to offer on a particular product or service. These eBooks are simple PDFs that are downloaded by the person who gave their information. eBooks are inexpensive to make, because all you need is a word processing program and the ability to save the file that you create as a PDF. In order to grow your business, it is imperative that you be creative. It may mean taking advantage of tools you may have otherwise never thought of considering. While you may have never given much thought to writing an eBook, launching into the social media waters, or even starting a blog, these are all cost-effective strategies that don't cost you much, but can help you grow your business in exponential ways. |
Every business owner knows the importance of marketing. They know that having a strong marketing strategy is the key to gaining new customers for their business. Customers are key components to the success of any business. Without customers, which provide much needed finances that help your business thrive, your business is destined for failure. So the burning question on the mind of the small business owner would be, how can they get in front of their desired customers and grow their businesses without breaking the bank. As mentioned earlier in this article, the key to growing a business is having a strong marketing strategy. Depending on the size of your business, you may not have access to a marketing department. In fact, you may be the marketing department at this moment. No matter where you stand, this article will show you four free or inexpensive ways to grow your business by using organic marketing efforts. Organic marketing consists of those marketing efforts that will work for you over the long- term. This form of marketing is free, but does require some elbow work. 1. Create a blog for your business. Blogging is one of the most cost-effective marketing strategies you can introduce in order to get the message of your business out to those who need to see it. A blog can educate your audience about your business, and the articles can be tailored to meet the informational needs of your industry. This is a low-cost strategy, because you will want to add your blog as an asset to your business; which means you will want to buy a domain and hosting for it. Some companies build their blogs on sites they do not own; such as Blogger and . While these sites are used by many first-time bloggers, it is not ideal for someone who wants to have full control over what they can do with their blog. Free blogging platforms often come with stipulations. Paying for your domain name and using a site that you have control over, such as one you would build with WordPress.org, is best for your brand. 2. Start an email list. This is an often overlooked method for marketing a business; though it is cost-effective. There is a bit of a learning curve involved with the set up and management of email lists, but many of the companies who offer these services, have tutorials and teams who are ready to walk you through the entire set up process. Many of the email marketing platforms have free trials. The free trials allow you an opportunity to try these platforms on for size to see which one will fit your needs; as well as the needs of your business. |
So, how does one break free from this self-defeating, "poor me," pessimistic type programming, most of which was developed and adopted as a child? It all begins at home with your perceptions/how your view yourself. Do you perceive yourself as a survivor or a victim? Survivors embrace life and flow with it. They live in the present and take control over their lives. They are fully aware that they alone are responsible for what occurs. They know that taking responsibility for their lives, they are empowered to change their lives. Victims, on the other hand, wallow in self-pity and argue with and push back at life. They dwell in the past, believing they are helpless to change circumstances - their key to avoiding responsibility. They live defensively and stay frozen in time, without making progress because their perceptions tell them they are powerless. The cost of victim mentality is high. It negatively affects every area of life - professional and personal. Those who see themselves as a failure, are dwelling in victim-hood because failure only comes to those who give up. If we really want to shift out of victim mentality, we must first own it. We can't change what we don't own. We must shift our attitude and know that "change begins with me." We must embrace survival and take actions steps... no matter how small or insignificant they may seem now, towards some goal we are looking to attain. Most importantly, we must continually empower ourselves with "I can" and "I will" statements and put a stop to degrading "I can't" or "I won't" statements and beliefs. And, we must embrace gratitude - the greatest of attitudes. Daily, we need to take time to reflect on all the things that make us happy, on all the things that are going well in our life. Keeping our mind/energy focused on positive situations helps to counteract victim mentality. In the end, we must honor ourselves with the same degree of respect and love that we try to give others. Only then will our minds and actions shift out of victim-hood to survival mode. Truth is, we can't control other's actions or every circumstance that shows up in our lives, but we can control how we react to them. We don't have to be victims. It is a choice. Whatever happens or comes our way, we must view it as a challenge and not an excuse. Looking for a powerful partner to help erase the negative victim tapes that play over and over in your head? Look no further than your local gym. Getting your blood flowing and your "happy, feel-good" hormones kicked in through challenging exercise is one of the best ways to overcome negativity, defeat victim mentality and put yourself on the fast track to feeling healthy physically, mentally and emotionally. "You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection." - Gautama Buddha The victim needs to realize that small behavior and attitude changes can result in big rewards. |
Attitude is everything. Mental attitude, no matter what the end goal is, either helps you get there or impedes your progress and one of the most damaging attitudes anyone can adopt is victim-mentality. What is victim-mentality? Victim mentality is a negative mindset. It places blame on other people and circumstances for any unhappiness felt within." It is the proverbial "point the finger out" scenario. Those engaged in victim-mentality, view life through a narrow lens of pessimistic perceptions, believing whatever occurs in life is the result of outside causes. Inner reflection is never considered. Being a victim means absolving themselves of blame. Nothing is their fault - ever! Those engaged in victim mentality most often enjoy the attention, sympathy and validation they get from playing this "poor me" role. When trapped in victim-hood, the focus becomes how vulnerable we are, rather than on how powerful we are. While, no one is born with victim mentality, no one is exempt from playing the victim role either. Sweet elder grandparents, loving, well-intentioned mothers and fathers, teenagers and even those considered "spiritually awakened" can all be found to dwell in this defeatist realm. In fact, every person alive has played the victim role more than once in their lives. Victims want to be mentally prepared for the worst and sadly, for those dwelling in victim-hood, this self-sabotaging behavior becomes more powerful when things seem to be going their way as they are sure "disaster is waiting around the next corner." |
