Mr, when you have a P0420 code which is what you posted, it clearly shows Cat below efficiency bank 1, what do you do? Run a Live scan, after which you delve into physical inspection of the cats which entails checking for Cat presence, absence or broken particles. Then replace with a good cat.

Did you replace cat or not?
Yes, what code were you trying to solve?
P0420.

V-tec codes are different from that of cat codes.

The gear box bottom plate was removed after draining all the oil , the valve body was the removed.
it was hard locating which solenoid was SL1, so all the solenoid was removed n cleaned, tested with battery to determined if its clicking. after cleaning of the valve body n all the solenoids, and was about to be replaced, a gear specialist who came from Lagos that very day to fix another gear box came n inspected the gear oil filter. he found out that it was dented and could not pass oil as expected. so, he queried why it was dented and discovered that the bottom plate too was dented ( I knew it wasn't me cos av never hit anything I cn remember) too. After investigation, it was found that while the engine seatings were being removed and replaced, a jack was placed under the gear bottom-plate by a careless apprentice. the jack was what depressed the bottom-plate which in turn depressed the filter which may have also lead to an SL1 stuck off.
So we bought a new filter too but by the time we coupled everything together, it was already late.
fast-forward today; we put everything in place and toped the oil to gauge and test drove the car. we kept driving this car from time to time till 4pm and nothing negative happened. so, that's how I paid off everyone and left with my car. though the car is still on the watch list in-case the issue resurfaces(I believe it wont).

Please i need advice on how to go around this code on my car. I have 2006 Passat 2.0TFSI i bought as Toks not too long ago,but did not scan it prior to making the payment.The dashboard was clean with no code display,Engine sound cool and i only used a full tank (60L)+20L( toped up at Ihiala Anambra state) of fuel driving the car from Cotonu to Port Harcourt city ( Good fuel economy). My problem is i recently scanned the car and this code come up:
Catalyst System; Bank 1
P0420 - 002 - Efficiency Below Threshold - MIL ON
008801 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
P2261 - 008 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent
I cleared the code and P2261 never came back, but P0420 still persist.
From the search i did online, it should be consuming fuel but am yet to notice that on highway drive.Not sure of City driving. 15L fuel last about 4 days driving within city ( tro and fro from work daily of about 2 hour both including heavy traffic).

My Question is:
1. Is the fuel consumption Ok?
2. Is there a way to solve the issue with the catalyst system?

I had d car scanned, and it showed brake fluid switch problem. When d mechanic checked, he discovered that the break fluid was very low. He added break fluid and the VSA and hand brake warning light disappeared.
