Referee To Decide If Super Eagles Captain Mikel Will Play For Nigeria Against Argentina
Nigeria could line up against Argentina without their influential captain John Obi Mikel if centre referee Cuneyt Cakir insist on him not playing with a cast around his wrist. Mikel suffered a fracture on his wrist in Nigeria’s last game against Iceland and since then has been playing in a cast in the training session of the team as they build up to the game against Argentina tomorrow. The cast was also seen around his wrist when the team trained this evening and even though coach Gernot Rohr insist that the Tianjin Teda midfielder will play against Argentina during the pre match conference, the final decision will rest on Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir. Cakir will decide if the cast around the wrist of the Nigerian will be injurious to other players or not. If he rules it injurious then Mikel will have to sit out the game, but if otherwise then Mikel will be free to play per FIFA rules. |

Self-Confessed Fan Of Messi Appointed As Referee For Argentina Vs Nigeria TieNigeria are going to face Argentina tomorrow in their final group D game of the World Cup 2018 in Russia. A game where a win will see them progress regardless of what happens in the other group game between Croatia and Iceland. Argentina on their part need a win against Nigeria and that will be enough to see them progress from the group if Croatia who are already through to the next round beat Iceland in the other group game. A situation which has made the game against Nigeria more intriguing than it is on paper. Yesterday, FIFA confirmed the appointment of referee Cuneyt Cakir as centre referee for the game and it has been viewed by many as controversial because the Turkish referee has in the past confessed his love and admiration for Argentina super star forward Lionel Messi. Cakir described the five time best player in the world as his favourite and has officiated games which has ended in favour of teams of Messi, the most memorable which didn’t go the way of Messi with him in the middle was the UEFA Champions League clash which ended 3-3 between Barcelona and Chelsea with Chelsea progressing and Messi missing a spot kick. The politics just begun FIFA wants her favorite to progress. |

somehow: Where did they get 3 goals from?
They scored 1 against Argentina and conceded 1 = 0
They conceded 2 from us = -2 goals
We conceded 2 from croatia and scored 2 against iceland, so we have +0
So who gave iceland 3 goals? goals conceded would not count. Only goals scored |

somehow: If Iceland win by 2 goals, they will have +0 and 4 points. if we draw by another goal margin, we will also have +0.
Then comes H2H which means we will be ahead because we beat them.
Do you understand now? they'd progress based on goals scored. They'd have 3 whilst we manage 2 |

Jarus: Our advantage going into this game is, Argentina, like Iceland, have slow defenders. And worse, unlike Iceland, they have older and less physical/less strong defender. The speed our attack may be helpful.
My fear is how to professionally cage their attack without committing stupid penalty and fouls in dangerous areas. same thing you guys said about Serbia and Croatia. Older players playing defense. Yet we could not break them down. I think they should approach this game with a winning mentality. They shouldn't show too much respect. I need to see sleek passing withh Argentina doing much of the chasing. A victory surely will not only take us to the round of 16. We'll reach the semi's |

TheLoneCitizen: No way, we can't dwell on the past, we have to face the status quo. What would you say about Joachim Low, then? I mean it would have saved us the stress of being under unnecessary pressure. This super eagles team has never been under this kind of pressure. Can't say same about the Argentines. They did well the last time they found themselves in a similar situation. |

If we lose against Argentina, all blame points to Rohr for not deploying the correct tactics against Croatia. I believe we could have won or at worst drawn with them had it been he deployed the tactics that has worked. We wouldn't be here doing permutation and combination. Rohr should be sacked if we exit this group stage. |

Joebie: Ex-Spain Coach Clemente: Now Mikel Wants Sportsmanship From Croatia; Nigeria Rested Players In ’98 10 hours ago By James Agberebi:
Former Spain national team coach Javier Clemente has laughed off calls by Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi asking Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic to play his regulars against Iceland on their final Group D game of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.
Following Croatia’s qualification into the round of 16 with a game to spare, there are reports that Dalic could rest some of his key players like Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic.
And reacting to the report, Obi called on Dalic to show sportsmanship and field his best players against Iceland, believing the outcome of the game could have an effect in the game between Nigeria and Argentina which will also be played on Tuesday.
Iceland could qualify ahead of Nigeria and Argentina if the debutants beat Croatia by a wide margin and the Super Eagles and Argentina draw.
But Clemente who was Spain head coach at the 1998 World Cup in France when they crashed in the group stage, was having none of Mikel’s call for sportsmanship.

At the 1998 World Cup, Spain who lost 3-2 to the Super Eagles in their opening group game, needed the Eagles to avoid defeat against Paraguay while Clemente’s team had to beat Bulgaria to progress into the round of 16.
Having already qualified for the round of 16 following wins against Spain and Bulgaria, Super Eagles key players like Austin Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Okechukwu Uche, Celestine Babayaro and Mutiu Adepoju were all rested against Paraguay.
Paraguay went on to beat the Eagles 3-1 and progressed while despite thrashing Bulgaria 6-1, Clemente’s Spain crashed out.
Recalling the events that unfolded at the 1998 World Cup, Clemente tweeted on Sunday: “Obi Mikel of Nigeria asks Croatia for sportsmanship and wants them to plays with the regulars.
“Nigeria in ’98 played with their substitutes against Paraguay and lost, Spain crashed out. That day it seemed sportsmanship was not important.”
— CompleteSportsNigeria everything wants Nigeria to crash out. I wish we forget about the other result and scrape out a win. |

komekn: In this formation we have Zero AERIAL THREAT and no Physicality up front which means no HOLD UP PLAY.
You have a very young inexperienced goalkeeper who his first option is to kick the ball out. Who will pick up the ball and hold it up ? aerial duels so far have not been our forte. We play a low passing counter attacking football. What have Ighalo's aerial battles yielded in the matches we've lost? If quick counter attacking is our weapon, we have to make optimum use of it hence my suggested line up. |

Mickael2: the space we gave them on that first half would be suicidal against Argentina I hope we start the way we finished that Iceland game(it wasn't the perfect match either because we still left spaces but at least if we can manage to outscore them it would still be the same) because this is a wounded team, if they take a two goal lead they'd want to use us and turn on the screw and send out a message. We really shouldn't leave that kinda space for Messi at all I'm more worried about Argentina's attack against our defense. Can we contain them? |

safarigirl: how can you combine Iwobi and Simy? In a key game like this, you cannot field players whose capabilities are largely unknown
You can field Iwobi with Musa or Iheanacho, but allow Simy keep Ighalo company on the bench. You cannot be taking such a dangerous risk for a game this important
As far as I am concerned, the line up against Iceland can do damage to Argentina. There is no studying that the Argentine team want to study that will nullify that team. They don't have the personnel to nullify that team. you're only saying this based on their abysmal midfield and defense. But you shouldn't overlook their attack and the damage they're capable of inflicting on our error prone and inexperienced defense line. Do not underrate Argentina sister |

safarigirl: he's talking about changing the players, not necessarily the forwards alone
Iwobi has dealt with them before, he can do it again, he and Musa also played together in that game and Musa had the assist for his second goal. So, Iwobi should be ahead of Ighalo and Simy if we are talking forwards that can play with Musa agree without reservation! in komekn's voice ° |

TheGoodJoe: We played in a conservative way in the Croatian game what Boss Icon4s said is very through. With Moses and Possibly Ebuehi taking the wing back role, if our mobile attackers in Nacho and Musa are closely marked, it will create room for the wing backs to cause damage.
He is very spot on. how many times have we scored a goal from WB? Our team currently lacks creativity. We can only hope for a better result against Argentina. It's two days to the game but I must confess I already have my heart in my hand. We should be discussing on how to contain Argentina's attack and be clinical in our finishing. No room for complacency. I appreciate the boys not posting pictures yet as it makes me believe they're aware of the magnitude of the game ahead of us |

Icon4s: Man mark Musa and Iheanacho and Moses would do the damage.
The problem our opponents would have is the team is so disorganized, sporadic and unpredictable that they wouldnt know who would wreck havoc. please you guys should stop using this "unpredictable" rhetoric. Same thing was said before the croatia game. How did it end? Argentina no be beans. They're very good on their day. Underrate them at your own peril. |

It was after we scored the first goal that the game opened up. They were out for an equalizer but were punished for that. First half possession even stood at 61% to 39%.
