Oh, Yeovil grin

Visited once and I liked the general scenery.

What's your experience living there?

hyzich:
Hi

Just seeing this, ask anyone youve met to be added into the group called Nigerians in yeovil, you would see someone who would help.. I live in Yeovil currently

You can use comparison/cashback websites like uSwitch and QuidCo.

They'll advise on the providers with the best netowrk in your area with their indictative speed. You'll also get some credit/cashback on the account.

Knowlegeseeking:
Elders Good evening.

I’m currently looking for a broadband-only deal, and I’ve noticed that my living room has both Virgin Media and Openreach fibre cables installed. After checking online, it seems that Virgin Media offers the fastest connection in my area.

However, I’m a bit confused by the different speed options and their varying prices. Could you advise me on what I should prioritize when choosing a plan? I’m hoping to find a good balance between speed and affordability, as the prices seem quite high.

At the moment, I’m using an unlimited data plan on my sim from Three, but the network performance is poor, which has made working from home difficult. My contract with Three expires at the end of this month, so I’m considering switching to Virgin Media for broadband.

For context, I don’t watch live TV—I mostly stream YouTube and Netflix, and I usually connect my TV via hotspot.

Any guidance you can offer on selecting the best deal would be greatly appreciated!

You can use the instant payment option. It's only available for £100+ payments though.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

Interesting angle.

Fairly so, the weather across the UK is somewhat akin, however, reports from friends and families outside of SE/SW England makes me feel they have more rain and heavier wind/storm than the South. This is further confirmed by weather forecast.

Outside of summer, the UK weather is gloomy and I'm yet to get into the dual, two years in. I dread it might be worse up north. Perhaps, my fears are unfounded.

Any thought on the accents up north? Any city with slightly refined accent closer to what you get in the South? 😂

Ticha:
Extreme weather? Are you looking to relocate to the Outer Hebrides?

The weather across the UK is much of a muchness. Marginally colder up north yes but it's all rain, rain and then some more rain across the whole of the UK and Ireland.

I work up nor' and live in the Midlands. Sometimes it's warmer and sunnier in the Lake District than the Midlands!
TravelRe: Living In The UK: Property,Mortgage And Related by lightnlife: 9:57pm On Sep 29, 2024
Really? Isn't the minimum wage applicable to the North.

Agreed, there are limited opportunities compared to the South but I'd imagine majority of workers earn the national minimum pay whilst others earn marginally higher rates, as with other regions.

My biggest concerns about the North is the extreme weather conditions and accent. Barring these, I'd gladly move over to enjoy the low rent and mortgage pecks.

teeebest:
Yes o. We earn less though. 😀

Just another motivation to get a British passport. grin

From the visa application phase to the long travels, it could be financially, physically and mentally draining. cry

Getting an appointment date is your biggest challenge, you may have to go through relatively unknown Schengen country to get a date. Years ago I have to use Portugal for a family trip to Spain

We got our keys on Friday 30th August and moved into our house on the 31st. We maxed out our LISA contributions and deposit was 14k.

The pumped generation!

I've been really worried about the consumption rate of energy drinks in this UK.

Seeing loads of youngies under 30, unabatedly taking these drinks make me wonder the values of this society.

Is anyone interested in buying a fully functional Redmi Note 10 Pro?

Let me know!
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by lightnlife: 1:50pm On May 17, 2024
No, they're not any better.

Same applies to them. Used to be a Samsung user before switching to iPhone and now Redmi.

At the minimal, all phones have the same features with slight differences.

samcolee:
you're right but does Samsung or one plus give better experience even after 2yrs?
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by lightnlife: 12:37am On Mar 22, 2024
This is exactly my conclusion.

I'm on my second abi na third Redmi phone with Note 10 Pro. It's less than 2 years and the performance has dropped.

I'm going for 13 pro+ soon will the hope of dumping it after two years.

TemporaryHansel:
From my experience after using four different phones from different xiaomi brands, xiaomi devices have a short life span. On the good side, they're very customizable ( for people interested in that). After two years just dump the phone or dash it out because it'll frustrate you.

Holla!

Please, has anyone on Health and Care visa with a newborn in the UK had to apply for a dependent visa for the baby solely for the baby to access NHS after three months of birth?

According to Gov.UK, it's not imperative to apply for a visa for a UK-born baby except when exiting and entering the UK. However, there's an NHS advisory that newborn can only access free care up to three months after which the IHS must be paid.

Ideally, health and care visa holders/dependents don't pay IHS. Hence, I feel it's logical to conclude that the newborn wouldn't have to apply for the sole purpose of accessing NHS as IHS wont be paid still.

However, I'd like to hear from those with experience on H&C visa. Thanks

You can use sugar soap (£5) to clean it off and collect your deposit.

Took us two days to wipe our walls before moving out. Na only £50 landlord chop from the deposit due to flimsy excuse of the oven looking dirty and small damp in the toilet.

Collecting deposit sweet 😂

So, if someone gets a non-healthcare job with £38,000+ salary and sponsorship, s/he can bring in his/her dependents, right?

I might be wrong but most non-healthcare immigrants on sponsorship earn more than 38K.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by lightnlife: 1:57am On Nov 27, 2023
You're simply been emotive without comprehending or engaging heroshark's points.

Migration decisions are largely fact-based and less of emotional sensation.

You may hate Suella and sack her, another person will arise to champion similar ideology. So, tackle the message not the messenger.

No dey carry Nigerian beer-parlour and religious sentiment enter di matter.

florixi:
grin grin grin Just imagine that line from an immigrant! Some of you will be worse than Suella if you manage to get to the decision-making table in the UK or whatever country you migrated to. I have said here before that some people are not just happy to see their fellow Nigerians migrating like them because they want to keep on oppressing those they left at home. but God passed them. Immigration issue na season film: when one series ends, another go start so no cause for alarm.
