Absolutely!

Corruption is not isolated to political actors, parties or public office holders. It has become a human problem surfacing in homes, organisations, communities, countries and continents in varying degrees.

What is more perplexing about the African form of corruption is impunity and a mind of normalising corrupt acts.

In Africa, it pays more to be corrupt than to be incorruptible.

semmyk:
Population is a contributory factor, a major one, but not the only one. Corruption (incorporate poor governance) and mgt of population are critical.
Hence, I concur ... "But what is more disturbing is the geometric population growth rate (2.5%) stacked against dwindling resources and economic growth (-1.8%) per annum"
Corruption (which ironically on face value crisscrossed average citizen and obviously leaders whether PDP, or APC or APGA and others) is one that we lack owning up to individually and collectively. Not accepting and taking responsibility is a cancerous killer.
As regarding racist caucasian globalists that control the world, there is no denying that. It just the same way that power plays in the society or price and profit in the (local) market. However, as you'll do in thermodynamics or systems theory, you consciously reinforce intransitivity to engage 'transitively'. Invariably, the internal stands up to the external.
What we have however is that corruption which transfers to mgt of population offers no resistance to external globalists, rather it (corruption in all it facet) is an enabling enabler [like I said corruption is not limited to one 'ruling' party but all parties and collective individuals across the different strata of the society/nation: house, street, community, society, town/city, LG, state, region, nation, even church and mosques]

Best option will be to reach out to the student support unit of the school for such help.

If Nigeria was working well as a self-sustaining country, I'm sure Nigerians won't have to go through all these extreme weather conditions in their quest for economic improvement.

We have a good weather pattern back home but no thanks to poor leadership that has limited the economic growth and viability of the continent.

It should be the BRP number (top right corner of your card) and not the NI number (at the back of card).

May I ask if and why the cities in the North of England are generally less expensive than those in the South?

I am asking because we're planning for our first mortgage and the rates in cities around South West England are really high.

Would it be a good option to relocate from the South West to the North in order to get a cheaper property for purchase?

Elders, abeg, share some insight.

Thanks

I presume you didn't get my point.

At the moment, the UK has been around 25 to 29° C. It's only sometime this week that it's estimated to reach 35 - 40°C.

Hasn't Nigeria been more than 25°C on the average?

25°C is a regular in Sub-Saharan Africa but it isn't in Europe.

People were complaining here at 20-25°C. Now imagine what it'd be for them at 30-40 with low humidity?

The Wave Is Here

Western Europe has been experiencing scorching heat wave like never before. The UK isn't spared.

This week, th UK might experience its hottest days ever at 40°C. So, it's really gonna be hot this week. embarassed

Due to this, some schools and offices have sent notifications that they might be closed for some days so people can chill at their houses to avoid congestion, hydration, suffocation. Some companies don even tell their workers to wear knickers and singlet come. grin

The beaches have been crowded, and more people are walking/driving around without clothes.

For me, the UK sun is more scorching than Naija own. Although Naija's celcious rating is higher. Also, UK's heat comes with little or no air. Humidity (breeze) dey high for Naija despite intense sunshine.

The sun don dey make me black too much sef. cool

How the sun for your side?

Global relevance is more about skills than certificates.

What skills do you have?

YouKay has a Skilled Worker Visa (Tier 2) programme which offers you a chance to relocate with your family if your skill is needed here. Search for Occupational Shortage List and read up more about. Tech and Medicine are the two topmost employers of foreigners into the UK at the moment.

There are other means - Global Talent visa, Study visa, etc.

Google is your best friend. There are a couple of relocation threads on Nairaland as well.

Travel / Re: Why Do African Brothers Abroad Discourage Others From Moving Abroad Too? by lightnlife: 6:25pm On Jul 15, 2022
Sorry your hope was dashed. You were disappointed because you expected much from them.

First, you need to learn to conduct independent research on things that interest you. Take responsibility for your success or otherwise, and you won't be too disappointed or expectant in life.

You probably used internet to reach out to them and also type this. All of those time could be have been directed into researching authentic inform on migrating to the country of your choice. Even Nairaland here can be of help. There are a handful of threads addressing relocations.

Second, I am worried about the set of people you have in your circle. They are either beaten or scared of others' successes. However, you shouldn't generalise based on your few personal experiences.

Third, in defense of those people, most Africans that were helped to relocate abroad previously have turned around to become a burden or bad blood to their helpers. You know most of our barely keep long lasting relationships. They think relationships are simply about give or take. Many see life, career, living well, relocating as competition or they're better off than others.

In my almost three months in the UK, I've heard stories of people that were helped in who afterwards turn back to become wahala for their benefactor. Despite those stories and understanding that it's a sad reality of our world, I haven't decided nor stop to share migration advise or resources to people.

The Nigerian/African community in the UK isn't as vibrant or dominant as the India's, largely, because most Africans avoid themselves here due to wahala and competition, and do not help themselves move or settle in. It's the reverse for Indians and Asians, who are everywhere.

I hope you're not embittered at your friends and encourage you to do your research yourself. All the best.

krissconnect:
These past weeks, I've been reaching out to my friends who are abroad to help me with links or advices to move abroad too. But I discovered that none of them decided to help, instead they discouraged me either by saying, "it's difficult to move now or the country isn't issuing visa now".

One of my guy in CANADA defiantly ignored my text when I asked him for links or the route he used to move, the other in Korea said the country isn't issuing visa now but he recently moved back and another directly said that it's very hard to get visas now to travel. But one Asian American in the States gave me lots of links to move to the State and even encouraged me to move.

But then I don't understand why our African brothers over there will never encourage or advice someone willing to move. Is it envy or greediness or what? I've never had any of my guy abroad encourage me to move when I asked for advice. If things are difficult over there, why not come home?

NB: I never asked them for fund cos the money is available.

Stop this untrue overt generalisation.

Who do you guys relate with to conclude that when people move abroad they forget their committments, partners and lovers? It's sickening!

This year alone, I know loads of people (married and unmarried) who traveled abroad first, and thereafter, took their spouses in.

I presented data in my piece. Data that even African leaders didn't counter but here you are disputing them and point fingers.

Your thoughts are just a perception of what the real issues are, which is typical of African politicians; they take no responsibility for the state of the country, rather they point fingers.

Conspiracy theories are no way to develop a nation.

Rwanda, another African country is picking itself and emerging to be a powerhouse. If your assumption of grand conspiracy against Africa is legit then other African countries that are thriving shouldn't be.

Let's agree that we have a problem as a nation, that way we'll be able to solve the problems effectively.

GenBuhari:
My dear sister, Are you aware the trillions of dollars that have been stolen from us by RAClST Caucasian Globalists? e.g. Malibu oil block theft etc.

Do you think it is just a coincidence that our country and rest of Africa is riddled with terrorism and insurgency from top to bottom whilst Caucasian countries are living in peace and harmony? It is the handiwork of these globalists controlling the world.

Do you know that our government and African countries in general do not free will to fix our countries and economy?
Nobody is starving in Nigeria we are blessed with abundance of food that grows from the soil.

Can you imagine that after 24 years of our pretend democracy we still have not seen the advantages of the so called democracy and we have been unable to produce a constitution that would make us develop. It's all by design, globalists are behind our problems not our population.

China is the most populated country and they have developed to become the most powerful nation in the world.

How so?

It's basic economics; demand is more than supply. The resources we have are limited and grossly mismanaged. Corruption is a form of mismanagement which I mentioned in my piece.

Decades back when Nigeria was fairly good, the population was growing in parallel with the economy. Jobs were available and easily accessible. Today, the reverse is the case.

Please show me an over-populated developed country.

Your economy can't be in deficit while your population is exponential and you think everything will work well, but you want to believe that corruption and external sabotage are responsible.

Corruption is a global phenomenon. External interference isn't applicable to Nigeria alone. Do a SWOT analysis of Nigeria and see what you come up with. The internal, self-imposed issues are more than the externals.

We're not planning for, with, by our numbers.

GenBuhari:
Madam you are very misguided for making this post.
Population is not Nigeria's problem our problem is corruption and external sabotage.

Bump It Up

A few weeks ago I was curious about the number of people in the UK. After a couple of searches, I got a figure of 67 million.

I was shocked how a confederation of four countries could be merely 67 million while Nigeria, a supposed single country, is over 200 million.

Well, I went further with the research to compare the per capita GDP and other basic economic indices, and I couldn't but get worried for Nigeria and other African countries.

The comparative figures explained and justified the stack differing realities of both countries.

The research reinforced my position that Nigeria is overpopulated with limited and mismanaged resources and poor leadership/followership. But what is more disturbing is the geometric population growth rate (2.5%) stacked against dwindling resources and economic growth (-1.8%) per annum.

Yesterday was World Population Day, and the conclusions of that my short research flashed through my mind on the need for population management for economic development.

Overpopulation is a global problem. It contributes to global warming, resource depletion, pollution, malnutrition and the possible spread of deadly diseases. Often times, the poor are worst hit by the effects of overpopulation, and they also populate the world through uncontrolled birthing.

We all must make a conscious effort to support efforts to manage the world's population. It's part of our responsibilities to humanity and mother earth.

Over 30% of the world's population is due to unwanted and accidental pregnancies. Responsible sex and use of contraceptives can help.

The image below shows you the quality of life for a Nigerian vs UK resident.

Since it's festive (food) season in Nigeria, let me share some experience about food/feeding here in the UK.

I'll start with my partner who is an unapologetic foodie, from trying to tasting. For me, I just go straight in, no surprises or experiments - na make person chop belleful and dey healthy.

Generally, oyinbo food get as e be compared to African foods.

Due to work and all, we rarely have time to cook African foods, which could be time consuming. So what we do is cook in bulk and store in the freezer then microwave at intervals. But you know sometimes you could even be so lazy to bring out food from the freezer? Yeah, it happens to us sometimes.

We're getting used to eating Oyinbo breakfast, but not porridge ooo. E get as e be. tongue

At other times, we eat out at Mexican or Italian canteens. There's also this Nigerian store where we order via UberEats.

I've had garri and groundnut like twice as we couldn't cook something fast.

I've talked about how the average Oyinbo bread no too get taste compared to ours. But we're gradually getting along.

One thing is key; adaptability saves one from unnecessary pressure.

Governance is a continuum.

Policies and government programmes aren't primarily driven by politics.

Since it's the Tories that'll still be at helm of affairs even after BoJo's exit, the policy will still be retained.

If by the next election, the labour emerges, they won't automatically deport the people in the country through this visa. They'll only stop new issuances of such visa. This is the worst case scenario.
