Virality isn't veracity.

Misinformation can sometimes spread faster than truth.

Is there any policy or government reference for it?

Yes, the news is everywhere.

New or Used?

New ones: Order online - Argos, Amazon, or search furniture shops around you.

Old: British Heart Foundation and some charity shops. Facebook Market.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife:
Oops! Sorry you had such an experience.

The BA School run by Eno Eka is more fixated on optics and revenue than delivering value.

I once attended one of her sessions and all I could see was hype, motivation and a marketing scheme to get more money from students. I've had to unsubscribe from their mailing list after they bombarded me with tons of promotional content.

Regardless of your pathway - IIBA or BCS - you can self-study and ace the exams but the bigger challenge will be accessing the job market on a personal pedestal. However, this won't be much of an issue if you're looking to transition into a BA role within your current company. Either way, nothing is impossible, might just be difficult initially.

For IIBA's CBAP, you can buy the Udemy course by Ciel Academy. Engaging lectures delivered by a Nigerian, Obalim. For BCS, you can self-study as well or register with Twim Institute, a BCS-accredited academy in Nigeria.

I recently saw posts from Advance Care UK. It somewhat akin to High Impact Hub. See their poster below.

If person 2500 pound and e no get job after 2/3 months, no be gbege be that?

LionInZion:
That's very correct.
The one I used was Business Analysis School, owned by a Canadian-based Nigerian lady. After paying over N200k they just assigned us an uninspiring teacher who was just taking us through a boring class. She would just present a slide and start reading to us. They expected us to complete the whole online teaching within 2 or 3 sessions (I can't remember now because I quit after 2 classes). It was so boring and cumbersome, like sitting from morning to evening just listening to some boring presentation. I have taken several courses on Coursera and I know how interactive they can be. That was what I was expecting, but ended up disappointed.

Tech Nation made its impact with trailblazers like Monzo, Revolut and the Global Talent Visa scheme.

The shift in funding to Barclays' Eagle Lab is somewhat disturbing as many see it as a result of political interest and alignment. But then, it's common knowledge that fundings have cycles and every grantee must seek self-sustenance or be ready to close shop.

The days ahead will test the government's decision to defund Tech Nation and roll with Eagle Lab.

Tech Nation, the UK startup organisation that helped bring thousands of talented tech workers to the UK, has announced that it will cease operations in March after the UK government pulled key funding.

Yeah! 48k is good enough to live a decent life but my point was on the 40% deduction by the govt not essentially the worth of the net income.

Sadly, I didn't factor in the tax allowance, which will still leave more income in the pocket of the collector. In all, it's good news. grin

Goke7:
minus tax allowance, it will be higher but is 48k not good enough to live a decent life in the UK? make una calm down abeg

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 8:48pm On Jan 17, 2023
Thanks

Goke7:
so that's the issue with the UK job market, It's always about experience and what you can do or have done. So try and search for learning platforms that can give you hands-on experience, though some may charge you. That's how you can navigate the experience ish and those platforms also can provide you with work references.
Viruses:
Don't rely on that BCS cert, approach job search as if you don't have the BCS.

On the experience, you can create a home lab, get sample projects online and deal them like real life projects. Craft your CV with your home grown experience (you may have to be strategic and economical with the truth here) and apply for jobs. Next step will then be how to pass interviews.

Bro/sis, Goke7

Please share some insight. Thanks

lightnlife:
Thanks for the insight.

From your experience, how does a BCS-certified get started with jobs?

There are limited/no roles that do not request experience. Even the junior BA roles are experience-based.

Would appreciate your thoughts and pointers.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 7:10pm On Jan 16, 2023
Not sure if the 5/10 eligiblity mark will get you approved. In fact, I'm not sure why the mark is showing. I didn't have up to 500 score point when I applied and got the AMEX card although I applied through a referral link.

I'd say you try and apply through a referral link. Here's mine: https://americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/jEREMEebuA?XL=MNANS

If you are unable to get through the approval, you should log on to CreditScore or any of the credit report sites. You'll see a handful of pre-approved cards for you. Just apply for one. I'd say they provide the same the services. It's one's usage that matters.

gbens2000:
Hello house , my credit score on experian is 882 and when I checked my eligibility on American Express it was just 5/10 eligibility rate. What could be the problem
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 7:01pm On Jan 16, 2023
What sites have you been checking: Experian, Clearscore, CreditKarma or TotallyScore?

Your record may not come up on all. I'd advise you check all four.

Are you on electoral register? Are you reporting any other bill?

Meanwhile, two months seems like a short time to be super worried about credit score if you've actually done the basics - register, bank, contract and bill reportings. You might have to give it more time.

jblesn:
How did you check your credit score? I have spent about two months in the country and i tried checking on clearscore but its saying nothing is coming up. I have a SIM contract and I have set up DD for my electricity bill

Goke7:
It's not really about the money which In my opinion should not be first considered as a new immigrant. You need to have the required skills, experience and credentials especially UK-recognised qualifications to stand out. I know in recent times, KYC and AML (anti-money laundering) related roles are becoming more in demand. Audit especially Technical Audit (a combo of audit and analytics) is becoming more popular. In all, the issues of climate change which is now known as ESG reporting which is a requirement by govt for most companies now have heightened the need for financial reporting with ESG ( Environmental and social governance) expertise. I think with these, one will have an advantage in getting high-end roles or jobs. The question however is if one meets the requirements.

I don't work in any of these areas so my knowledge may be limited. Am a Business Analyst within program and change management. I only have some knowledge of ESG as I have taken some courses in it.

I'm graciously planning towards this once I settle down well.

Walk out in winter, return to enjoy summer, autumn and anything else.

The winter comes with a lot - bad weather, bills and breakdowns.

I actually wanted to say this, I remembered last month when the weather was bad, man was dressing like a freakn siberian indoors, 50 quid fiiaaam on heating...now I see when my aunt leaves during winter and return at summer time.

Good way to start the ride to getting a Lexus, innit? grin

Lexusgs430:
You can pay AA/RAC to conduct vehicle inspection..... Most dealers don't like this type of inspection, because they would tear the vehicle apart .......... grin

https://www.theaa.com/vehicle-inspection/

https://www.rac.co.uk/buying-a-car/vehicle-inspections/comprehensive-inspection

Buying from a dealer, pay using a credit card (your purchase is protected by S75)..... If vehicle is not as described, simply leave your CC company to fight your battles.........

Buying from a private seller ....... Vehicle must be as described (if not, small claims court/ or seller might be nice) ......... grin

Also conduct an MOT history check + HPI check.......

NB : NEVER PAY A DEPOSIT, FOR ANY VEHICLE...... Unless you're 1000% certain to proceed......... wink

Happy New Year, Fellow Nigerians grin

Biko, how can one conduct a thorough professional inspection on a used car in this UK either from an dealer or private owner (all seen via Auto trader)?

Does one just take the words/warranty of the sellers for it OR does one have to go with a mechanic/technician? The latter is what I'd do or did in Nigeria and it turned out fine?

Please advise.

Thanks

Savings

Modified
I started work in August and I've been saving between *** ppmonthly. This is after bills, expensives and give aways.

I'm not pushing myself on savings as I'm still on a low-paying job. Just enjoying my life, outings, shopping and fun.

It can only get better.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 9:38pm On Dec 28, 2022
I'll try and break it down.

1. Withdraw dollar from your USD account in Nigeria.

2. Enter a bureau de change (Aboki) shop. Tell him you want to change Dollar to Naira. You should check online to be sure of the current exchange rate, so you can get a fair rate.

3. Aboki will pay the equivalent Naira of the Dollar you're giving him to your Nigerian Naira account. Confirm the payment on your mobile app before you leave Aboki. shocked

4. Let the money be resting in your Nigerian Naira account then carry your bag dey come UK.

5. When you reach UK, open a Lemonade account. They'll give you a Pound and Naira account for free on the Lemonade app.

6. Now transfer the resting Naira from your Nigerian account to the new Lemonade Naira account.

7. On Lemonade app, there's an option to convert that Naira you've just transferred to Pound.

Now you've converted your Naira to Pounds.

It sounds like a long process, but it easy.

topellycategory:
But did he have to open lemonade account when he arrived in Britain or open it while in Nigeria ?

How do you convert naira on Lemonade app because I have a Lemonade account here in the Uk , A friend is coming over with some Naira in his account hoping to transfer it into my account when he arrives.

I'm yet to figure out how the conversion/ transfer thing is going to work .

Please can someone break it down into pieces how it works because I have never done this sort of transaction before. Thanks
